This past week I was at the Chicago airport and saw someone buying an item from the Farmers Fridge. They were very complimentary so I decided to try it. My son got the Chia pudding which he could not stop talking about. He loved it. I got the Chickpea wrap which was the perfect lunch for on the plane that day. It was delicious and healthy. Im gonna try to replicate it at home. I only wish they would have had a vegan salad. My husband got the Pesto chicken. The next time I travel I will definitely pick up a few items. Even after a long flight I just want to get to my destination and this would be perfect for that as well. So glad I tried the Farmers Fridge. Loved it!!! read more

Farmers Fridge has been a huge disappointment, particularly given that we have one located directly in our office. I am part of the team responsible for managing the office environment, and despite this on site presence, the fridge is consistently understocked. I am vegan, and Farmers Fridge has exactly one legitimate vegan option that is an actual meal, the Napa Chickpea Wrap. Between myself and our facilities managers, we have reached out to customer service at least ten times asking for this item to be stocked daily. Every single time, we receive the same canned excuses from customer service, usually from someone named Red. Meanwhile, my managers have escalated this issue directly to the vendor itself, not just customer service, and nothing changes. No action. No accountability. The fridge in our office is often barely stocked at all, and when it is, there are little to no vegan friendly options. It is incredibly frustrating to have a vendor physically present in your workplace who claims to support fresh, inclusive food options, yet shows zero interest in accommodating dietary needs or responding to repeated, reasonable requests. Farmers Fridge does not care. They offer excuses instead of solutions and ignore consistent feedback even when it comes from management. If you are vegan or rely on them for daily meals, do not expect to be supported. read more

Gives me a little more hope in (affordable) airport food! I thought it was so cool to have what was essentially a salad vending machine. I was pleasantly surprised by how the lettuce in my salad was not wilted and was crunchy fresh. I love that it seems like they thought of everything including paper trays if you want to dump out and toss your salad and the possibility to recycle your salad container in the kiosk. What a great healthy alternative at the airport. I was unhappily cruising food options when I passed this vending machine. All items in the vending fridge looked fresh and healthy so we were going to give it a try. I tried the Pineapple Coconut Chia Pudding. Delicious. I hadn't heard of Farmer's Fridge before I found them at O'Hare, but I loved the concept immediately. Fresh foods, nutritious salads and bowls, all from a 24/7 vending machine with no human contact? What a great idea for a place like an airport that desperately needs accessible and affordable healthy options. I initially wanted to get a salad, but we were running late for our flight and I figured the Napa chickpea wrap would be a bit easier to eat on the go. The sandwich was very good and better than most refrigerated wraps you find at the airport. I tried some of my husband's pineapple coconut chia pudding too, which I also liked. One of the best things about Farmer's Fridge being all over O'Hare is that it was great publicity for a service that I didn't realize existed in NYC as well (even if it's not available anywhere close to me, but hopefully that will change in the future). They have actual meal food like salads, bowls, wraps, oats, etc and I love that they have healthy veggie options. They have utensils next to the vending machine, so don't worry, you won't be eating your salad with your hands...unless that's your cup of tea. Then I won't judge. I got the Thai noodle bowl. It's essentially a cold Thai noodle salad. It's got a slight kick to it but I really love how they did the zucchini. The noodles are whole wheat which is dope. Felt uninspired by all the airport offerings at CMH (Columbus, OH). All the restaurants were basically offering the same menu of burgers an sandwiches at airport prices (high but not uncommonly so). I passed by the farmer's fridge vending machine, and decided to give the Cobb salad a go. I've seen the machines at other airports and have always been curious. Contents were delicious - it's a high protein option and there was plentiful chopped chicken and a hard boiled egg. Dressing was also very good and plentiful. They post detailed ingredients, and the dressing was good enough that I'm going to try a copy cat at home. We also got the smoked turkey sandwich was was only okay. The bread to contents ratio was a bit off - I recommend eating it as an open face sandwich. It was much better that way. I usually pick up a sandwich on the way to the airport, but when I don't have the time for that, this will be my go-to airport option from now on. read more

As a frequent business traveler who priorities healthy eating this is a great option. I love that they are fresh, offer a variety of options, and are relatively low cal. If I'm traveling at meal time this is a go to. Now that they are opening /placing machines in so many more airports it's great because I just drop my used container in their recycle at my destination! So this was a pleasant surprise in the Chicago airport. I'll admit I was dubious- how fresh would it be? How overpriced? I'm delighted to say that the answers are "very" and "not very" respectively. I got the autumn salad with balsamic vinaigrette. They really pack the greens in there so that when you fluff them out into the available cardboard "boat" it is quite a sizable meal. The salad was less than ten dollars, which in airport bucks is a damn good deal. There is a place to return your used jar which I hope is recycled. Only down side is that the forks appear to not be recycled or compostable. They apparently have a frequent eater program but since this is the first time I've ever seen one of their dispensers, I doubt I will be able to make use of that program. Will definitely keep my eyes open when I travel though. read more

I love Farmer's Fridge. When I'm tired and hungry at an airport, I really don't want to interact with people. This is the perfect way to obtain a good meal. Plus the colleague I was with raved about it. It's basically a salad vending machine. The salads come in mason jars, which is super cute. Still a little pricey for airport food. Plus it's really tough to mix the salad and dressing together. Fortunately I went the Admirals Lounge with my colleague and got plates there. Oh and some wine to go with our dinner. Can't imagine eating this on the plane. It was quite a bit of salad. I got the Greek salad which lived up to my expectations. I saved the chia seed pudding for the plane, which was a sweet treat to end a healthy meal. I'd definitely order from Farmer's Fridge again. And I thought about how years later I'll be telling someone about how O'Hare Airport has salad vending machines, and how a simple question of "how was it?" would create melancholy thoughts. This isn't a mid-century plastic chair or an iPod embedded at MoMa as examples of iconic design. To fully appreciate the salad vending machine, one must consume its wares. Yelp sentiment leaned toward the protein salad, which was unavailable. There were also recommendations for the Cheater, featuring turkey bacon. I ruled out the highly-rated Southwest for too much green and briefly contemplated the peach offering. But I decided the shrimp succotash would really raise the stakes, and Farmer's Fridge easily succeeded. Even if not judged by Midwestern airport vending machine standards, the shrimp was fresh and perfectly cooked. The corn and soybeans were capable supporting players. The only negative is the giant mound of generic lettuce, but this provides a venue for the exemplary yogurt basil dressing. Finally, the crunchy asparagus makes you wonder why it isn't a more common salad ingredient. read more

I hope Farmer's Fridge becomes more widely available. The jars let you see what you're getting and the date by which it will be removed and donated. Everything's fresh and reasonably healthy - available options, ingredients, and nutritional info are clearly presented at farmersfridge.com, which also posts an ever-expanding list of locations (a great many of them private, in offices and other businesses for employees' use, however). It also has a link to sign up for a half-off discount code. I used mine on a falafel bowl for a late, longish flight. At room temperature, it was perfectly fresh and surprisingly tasty. With the coupon code and tax, it was a satisfying meal that, at $3.36, cost slightly more than the coffee I bought at my destination. As a flight attendant, I absolutely love Farmer's fridge. Buying food at the airport is expensive and although I should bring my own food, sometimes I don't and this is a great affordable option. It also makes me feel good knowing I'm fueling my body properly. I was a little hesitant at first to try it, but I was pleasantly surprised because the food was fresh and delicious. My favorites are the Baja chicken wrap and the chips and guac, but they have a wide variety of food to choose from and I'm excited to try more menu items. I also love how quick and efficient it is to order. This has saved me time and time again when I just need a quick snack or meal. Super impressed by this concept. A health food vending machine at an airport where they feature breakfast items like Greek yogurt parfait, oatmeal bowl, hard boiled eggs, lunch/dinner items like wraps, sandwiches, or artisan salads, and little snacks to nibble on like trail mix, cheese bites, and chips and guacamole all hand prepared and very fresh. It's so hard finding unique and healthy items at airports that don't cost a fortune. I had no idea I would come across this, and around 9:30/10 at night most of the airport shops were closing down, and I was left with a marginal selection of anything healthy that wasn't a generic and overpriced prepackaged salad. That's when Farmer's Fridge saved the day. I also liked the creative recipe choices and how the packaging was simple, not bulky and easy for eating on the go or in a plane. I ordered the pesto pasta salad and I was able to securely stick that in my bag which enabled me to have free hands for my walk (more like run!) to the next terminal with luggage. Wow! So impressed! I walked back and forth through terminal F debating between Chili's and others and didn't think much of a vending machine. I looked it up on Yelp, reviews were promising, so I took a chance and I'm SO glad I did. This place has got to be the most delicious airport food I've had in a while! I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap and pineapple coconut chia pudding. My total was around $11. It was pretty filling, but my favorite part was how healthy and affordable the meal was. The wrap had buffalo chicken, lettuce, and shredded carrots (and i think celery). The pudding is the stuff of dreams, so creamy and fresh. This is the best I've felt after a meal. Can't wait for the next time I run into one of these vending machines so I can try something else. I walked over to the Hudson's nearby and picked up cutlery for the pudding. I wish this was available at more airports but have only encountered it at Chicago O'Hare when I had a layover. It wasn't close to my gate but I made the trek 3 terminals away to find it and grab an early dinner. Because it was my first visit, I got to use a 50% off code. I was walking around Terminal F debating whether I should get a burger or a salad and the minute I spotted the vending machines, I just knew I had to try it, and I am so glad I did. There are basically two vending machines and ordering stations. You put your order in, swipe your card, and your food is ready. If this is your first time eating here, you can go online and obtain a 50% off coupon. The machines were not fully stocked and there were some few options left, but I had a late night flight, so it makes sense. I had the Buffalo Chicken Wrap and just had to try the Pineapple Coconut Chia Seed Pudding. The portions are excellent if you're try to watch what you eat. You can find all the nutritional information while you order. If you're extremely hungry, and are used to large portions, then Farmer's Fridge is not the right machine for you. Everything tasted fresh, the buffalo chicken wasn't as spicy as I would have wanted it to be, but it still tasted really good. The pudding is my new favorite obsession. What is it: Premade salads, wraps and pastas with "high end organic ingredients". There is a lot of vegetables and protein. How much is it? 8.75 ounces for the pasta bowl is $6.75. Two halves of a wrap is $8.50. High priced, in my opinion for small portions. These taste pretty decent, in my opinion it needs more flavoring. The pesto pasta bowl needs more flavor. It has rotini pasta, grape tomatoes, basil pesto, small mozzarella balls, spinach, a small amount of red onion and olive oil. The sodium for this 8 oz bowl is 800 mg though, kind of high. 400 calories at total fat is 23g and trans fat is 0g and saturated fat is 5g, if that helps. Tastes decent though. However, the 3 tomatoes tasted rotten, so had to dump those. The baja chicken wrap has no dressing and is kind of dry and no spice to it. It has chicken breast, lettuce, celery, brown rice, pieces of poblano peppers, red cabbage, greek yogurt and veganese (why? this isn't a vegan wrap) and taco seasoning. The brown rice is undercooked and very chewy, there isn't enough flavor in this, despite the peppers and taco seasoning and the lettuce looks wilted and brown. The Target in Oak Park, IL has a shelf of salads, wraps and pasta bowls. Small portions, high prices, needs more flavoring. read more

I stopped to look at it because it looked cool and saw that it contained the only not wilted lettuce id ever seen in an airport anywhere, so I gave it a go. I tried the Southwest Salad and added a little side jar of chicken. The salad came with romaine lettuce, black beans, tomatoes, roasted corn, avocado, pickled onions, queso fresco, pepitas and an avocado & lime dressing. My wife tried getting a salad from one of these machines and so she paid and the little arm thing that grabs the salad moved up and down a few times and that it was vending our food and then it settled back down at the bottom and said thank you. I wouldn't recommend using these machines. I think there's a reason why they're so full. It's either the machine is just stealing money or the salads just aren't that good. read more
