Safe and clean restrooms. Plentiful, safe, free and convenient parking. Of course, the park also offers the gorgeous peaceful views that draw visitors and residents to PV.

My husband wanted to come back & visit a different park, & this one has some different & interesting play structures, including Saturn, train, & submarine. It does have your standard playground equipment; monkey bars, slide, swings, etc. that separates the big kids from the little ones for safety. The park has a large grassy field for frisbee, soccer, or just running around playing tag. And plenty of trees for shade! The park seems dog-friendly as we spotted several dog walkers during our playtime. There's a shaded picnic area for you to hold a small party, or hang out with friends; with picnic tables & BBQ grills spread out through the park. With the lack of food traffic, the BBQ grills & picnic tables could used some maintenance (rusted grills) &/or clean-up (cobwebs on grills, bird poop on tables). There's a tennis court somewhere; I haven't been but another reviewer posted a pic of the courts. And restrooms are available... again, don't know where but a couple reviewers mentioned they're near the tennis courts; however, there's no stall doors & they're dirty. Oh no! There's no parking lot that I'm aware of, but there's enough street parking around the park's perimeter. Not our ideal park due to its distance from home, but a fun layover when we wanted something different.

It has a restroom in the middle of the park - not the cleanest or most private but it's there for emergencies. There is also a reservable meeting room next to the bathroom. There is a single basketball court and people often play there after work hours. There are two tennis courts. One is usually converted into 4 pickleball courts and there is open play on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday mornings. My wife and I like to walk around this area and it feels pretty safe, even at night. We don't run into any homeless people and there are a good number of people walking their dogs. The only thing is there an area where they do oil pumping/drilling and it can emit a not-so-great smell

The park is on the smaller side. One of the big trash cans was cracked and had a giant hole at the bottom. One of the circular stepping components of the park was missing. The interesting: The park ground was a mix of sand and the springy floor.

I wouldn't really call the grassy space along Via Nivel a park, more of a pocket park the size of a…read morebackyard. But it's on the map, called Via Nivel Park, so dangit I'll review it. The park space does extend downhill into a densely wooded area that I'd consider unusable, but any parkland is a good thing. So if not even a park in the traditional sense, why 4 stars? Because it connects to a sweet little trail that goes all the way thru Valmonte. Well OK not really a trail for hiking, but more of a rugged, mostly flat walking path used by locals with their dogs. The path has ruts & bumps as it progresses northward, it leads through thick brush & coyotes like it, too. It's closed now due to the apocalypse. Still 4 stars because I like the views, from the path, of Torrance far below - including Zamperini Field/Torrance Airport, which you can also get a glimpse of from the "park". Very pretty at night but don't go there after dark (critters). So as I was photographing the "park" I ran into a guy with his dog who was defying the "closed" order for the trail. There was a house under construction across the street from the park - trucks, heavy equipment, workers running all over....but the little trail with almost nobody on it, ever, was off limits. Sure, that makes sense. A couple blocks south thru the residential neighborhood is the historic Mirlo Gate Lodge Tower on Via Valmonte (has its own Yelp reviews). The stone tower was built in 1926 as a home for the guard at the planned gated entrance to what would later become Valmonte. It resembles a tiny castle & is worth a drive-by look. After I braved the construction traffic to photo the pocket park area, I headed toward Redondo on Via Nivel. It's a narrow street, a one-car-at-a-time street, as are many in the area. I got trapped by trash trucks. In Palos Verdes Estates you don't put trash bins out at the curb on pick-up day. That would be unsightly. The trash collectors go up your driveway or wherever you stash your trash & haul the bins down to the trucks, dump them, then return the bins. Of course there are separate trucks for trash, recyclables & yard waste. I was going north. The caravan of trucks was coming south. I had to pull over & wait. The crew of collectors was servicing several houses at a time, very efficiently, as their huge trucks remained in place. Gonna be here awhile, I was thinking. So as I sat in my car I played with my hair. My now LONG hair is 2/3 blond & 1/3 roots. Talk about unsightly. I put my hat back on. Shoulda illegally gone down the apparently virus-unsafe little trail next to the "park" sporting my hair that once was blond (busted). Any coyotes would run the other direction when they saw me, especially if I wore my mask. Adventures during the apocalypse can be challenging. I want my hair salon & my trails back. And I'll stay away from the south end of Valmonte on Monday trash day.
