The trainer, Siena, has honestly changed my life. I've been training with her for a while now and the results speak for themselves! Not just physically, but in my strength, mobility, and flexibility too. Each phase of training has been intentional, and she has helped me get closer to my ideal physique step by step. If you are looking for a personal trainer who truly knows what they are doing and genuinely cares about your progress, I can not recommend Siena enough!! She is the best! Looking for a premium priced gym without the premium touch? How about an Equinox that's not REALLY an Equinox? Then this is your gym! *TLDR version: This place is run by poor management, it's extremely worn down and dirty, equipment limited, clientele cliquey for the women, music way too loud for most regulars and they increase your membership consistently every year for no real reason. They also do not provide day care services for people with young kids.* Alright, buckle up because I've got a lot to say: 1. Luxury without the luxury - I'm sure when you think of Equinox you think, "This place is going to be nice and clean, weights re-racked, etc". But friends beware. It's not that type of Equinox. The locker room and lockers are old and run down. The lockers are also tiny, awkwardly shaped and you can hardly fit a regular sized gym bag. You have to bring your own locks too... but I digress. If you've ever stretched or done an exercise where you're close to the ground (ie pushups), you'll see strands of stray hair everywhere. There are towels and weights left out (constantly) from the night before. I've had multiple times where I grab a new towel to shower and there's someone's hair in it. The list goes on and on. 2. Equipment selection is so poor you'll feel like you're a in a glorified hotel gym (and not a nice hotel). If you're a weightlifter, the dumbbells are fine and go up to 110 or 120 which is great. However, they lack a ton of machine variety and most machines are old. Fitness 19 across the street has twice the amount of stuff @ 10% of the membership cost. The treadmills are also run down and have not been replaced in what seems like forever. The Soul Cycle bikes are jenky and require you to sign in before using every time. Also, the pool looks tiny and depressing in an area with no natural sunlight. 3. Ladies - this one's for you. My wife was not a regular and her schedule made it a little more difficult to go consistently. That said, she absolutely hated how cliquey this club was. She said if you're not a super involved PV mom or super fit, you will not feel welcome. She quit because of this and joined Orange Theory, along with the fact Equinox does not provide day care services, which also sucks. 4. Music is way too loud. You know it's bad when even the front desk agrees, yet their hands are tied due to management explicitly stating they cannot touch the volume. This is my BIGGEST complaint here as of recently. I wanted to list the above points first, however, because I knew it was the most relevant for the widest audience. This probably won't be relevant for people who take classes or don't bring their own headphones when they workout. However, for people doing cardio or weightlifting with their own headphones... beware. I've been a member at powerlifting gyms, other luxury gyms with nice amenities, heck... even this exact SAME gym almost a decade ago under better management. Never once have I had to battle my own volume with the gym's. I have nice headphones with ANC (active noise cancelling), yet I still have to jack the volume all the way up to drown out their awful music... probably doing wonders for my long-term hearing health too. Management has provided me with vague, non-empathic PR responses (borderline condescending) that had me thinking "oh, THIS is why things are the way they are around here". 5. Rising Costs for everyone. You're already paying $200+ for the above. Now to add insult to injury, they'll continue to increase your membership costs every year and say it's due to rising costs and "new equipment". In the few years I've been here again, they've added one new bike, a Back machine (ironically worse than the one they replaced it with) and get this... motion censored paper towel dispensers! Luxury. The only new noteworthy thing they've added were 2 massage guns, which have been nice. Now I have to give credit where credit is due. Darrel, Kate and Dane at the front desk on weekday mornings are always super friendly and working hard. All the personal trainers are also really friendly and make you feel welcome. Even the weekday morning locker room attendants/ cleaning crew (both the man and woman - unfortunately, don't know their names) are super friendly and are always saying hi. Lastly and contradictory to my wife's sentiments, I know a decent amount of morning regulars and have become friends with a lot of them. But my experience is different because I go 6 days/ week minimum at the same time every day. read more

Same basic review as last time but dropped another star because they just "thanked" me again for being a loyal customer by raising my rate to $204. I'm not sure if they do that every year but it's way. too often. (They were not as vicious during peak COVID years.) Do rates need to be raised once in awhile for inflation? Sure, but you could argue that you can raise the rates for NEW members and not so much for the customers that have been with you for 15 years. OR... since the Equinox app tracks everything the customer does (then monetizes that info), Equinox clearly knows if a customer only comes in once a week or once a month and maybe not raise that person's rate. OK, a few issues: As usual, Equinox waits until you are comfortably in to your new environment... then jacks up your rate. I remember a time when gyms would thank you for your loyalty by not raising your rates... or at least raised them minimally. Equinox uses the Public Storage game plan though. Let's keep jacking it up as much as possible because our clients will be pissed... but not pissed enough to hassle switching vendors. The latest increase is 10%. If the increases stay constant my gym membership will have doubled in only six years. So, based on their predatory pricing... two stars seems generous. Another issue... is the Equinox App. Yes, I know it's a little lame that, in this day and age, I am app-averse. I mean, I use Uber and Venmo but I try to stay away from non-essential apps that are really just tracking programs designed to harvest data about you and then monetize it. Here is how Equinox uses its app to collect info on you. https://digiday.com/marketing/equinox-using-mobile-app-data-strategy/ That is what they call, in memberhip-based business, "effin BS". Do they sell your info? Take a guess. Does the app offer some convenience to the customer? Yes, but the app is not the only way Equinox could provide that same convenience. The goal for Equinox is to create a "full-scale trackable marketing experience" (their words) ... all I want is the option of not downloading the app. I just want that choice. But Equinox wants you to use the app to check in. Worse, you can't listen to the TVs in the cardio room unless you've dl'd the app... that's lame. I mean, enjoy the app if you want but I shouldn't be penalized for not using it. I'm going to also point out that an app is not required if the goal is to allow customers a digital check-in, reserving classes and listening to TV at cardio stations. If Equinox wanted to, all that can be done via client log-ins, online sign ups, etc... the actual app is of minimal use to the client but mostly of benefit to Equinox. (I can get on to the lot of Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox and Universal without using an app but I can't get into my gym?) You can make reservations at restaurants without an but you can't reserve a spot in a yoga class without one? I mean, 20% of the clients don't use the app... Equinox is really denying 20% of their clients the right to hear what's on the 10 TVs in front of them? The privacy policy basically says that they only share your info with "affiliated and non-affiliated partners and brands". Wait. What? You only share (sell) my info with businesses that are affiliated and businesses that are not affiliated? Um, isn't that every business on the planet? OK, sorry about the privacy rant... the most important thing is that the personnel are great... the trainers roaming around are all nice and the people at the front desk are all unfailingly nice and upbeat and, as others have mentioned, Robin M was great to deal with when I signed up. Great parking situation! (Some Equinoxes feel like most of your workout is getting to and from the parking structure.) Also, I've never seen it overly crowded. (Update... occasionally it's too crowded.) And, like with all Equinox gyms... super clean. And you gotta love those cold eucalyptus towels! I actually hate to leave the two stars... I'm mostly happy with the place. But how else do you make yourself heard about getting your rate upped 10% every year and predatory app use? When the average gym membership in the US is $50 per month and I'm paying four times that much, it's irritating to not be rewarded for having been with Equinox for 15 years. read more

A smaller, 'close-knit' location. Feels as though everyone knew one another, and I definitely stood out as a stranger. Compared to the larger locations north of here, Palos Verde is a little oasis in a somewhat secluded part of Los Angeles. I was here once before several years ago, and it was nice to see that it was still free parking. Otherwise, this mall is pretty desolate. I don't remember if this was still an indoor mall at the time, but the thing that stood out for me was that the shop is now downstairs as opposed to upstairs on the fitness floor. Front desk staff was nice, and had loaner locks available since I had forgotten my own; SouthBay was the only other location who still had this, so this completely slipped my mind upon coming here. Ended up seeing a trainer I haven't seen in years; glad they are still there. I imagine people commit to them easily over this way since they don't seem as flaky as the ones I'm familiar with. Further out of the way, I'm glad I stopped by, and hopefully my next visit will be sooner than later. read more

Too much unnecessary redundant cardio equipment (not enough recumbent bikes) and not enough core related machines. One abdominal crunch machine. The men's urinals are. The pool at this equinox location is awesome. .. clean, welcoming and bright space, and nice size... It's a big draw for swimmers in PV. Other huge pros: very clean and well maintained, friendly staff, great selection of fitness classes (for range of interests), nice women's locker area, this feels like a luxury gym. Current management team seems very customer friendly and supportive Cons: super LOUD music playing in the workout and gym areas (I've known friends to complain to management about it - stating that the older population in this community does not like it - and were told that this is just how it is), the level of fitness classes is fairly advanced for 95% of their classes and can be tough for people to modify and not feel super out of place. Past management team was not accommodating with customer service requests. I'm not a fan of equinox' marketing campaign which is all about being the coolest. read more

My wife and I are new to the area and we have been Equinox members for a long time. One of my favorite Equinox locations, with the added comfort of being in my hometown. Parking is very easy, with a parking garage right across the street. No need for any validation as it's all free with ticketless entry as well. It's just the right amount of spacious, with a nice amount of equipment and lack of crowding. It's also in a convenient location, right at the back of the PV mall, so you can stroll around and grab a bite/coffee post-workout. I really liked that they had a captain's chair machine fit with a bosu ball, which made abdominal exercises far easier. Check it out if you're in the area! read more

I used to live here before Covid. They shut down and once open reservations required. That won't work for me and my workout buddy especially if there is time restrictions and appointments. Been a member since 2006 but Covid really took a toll. Small gym but everyone is above and beyond there. Knowing the staff from going daily a plus. Super friendly front desk, trainers and housekeeping. Steam sauna, lap loop, classes yoga and bicycling with Stephen will keep you in shape. Kiehl's, razors, fresh eucalyptus chilled towels, fresh towels to fry off on with great equipment make this and any equinox your gym! read more

I have been a member here on and off and chose to finally terminate my membership for good. I don't feel that Jasmine Toledo is a competent manager here. I am a former competitive swimmer and have deck changed all my life without anyone ever saying anything to me. One member screamed at me for deck changing and when I responded, management told me that I am not allowed to deck change anymore, even though that's acceptable at any pool. I have never been told that I can't deck change at Equinox before, so it's upsetting that Jasmine would tell me this now because one member complained.   Also, the pool is usually humid and there is little air circulation. This member who screamed at me had yelled at another member but Jasmine did not do an investigation into that. Poor management. Now I know why so many employees complain at Equinox and why Equinox is being sued so much, because of poor management.   They charge over $200 a month here and they can't even handle a member complaint properly. I will be writing to Equinox corporate because of this. Jasmine's argument for handling my dispute with the other member was outrageous as she used something factual that I had stated to her over the phone as something disrespectful towards the member. Absolutely ridiculous. I wish I knew how Jasmine had become the manager of this Equinox and I'd love to know her educational credentials. read more

I recently moved to the area and in the market for a new gym. I've never been to an Equinox before but I wanted to know what the hype was about. Booking a tour was quick and easy. As others said Robin is wonderful, patient and professional. The facility is laid out a little strange where things are separated. If you get a good tour it's easy enough to navigate! This gym is very class based. Gina Porter is GREAT!! I can't wait to get into another one of her classes. The other machines are all in working order and equipment is clean. I will say they could work on keeping the shower room more clean. The shower I stepped in was very grimey and slick. Not sure I'll be using the shower very often. No regrets. This isn't my usual location, but thought I'd share my thoughts as compared to other equinox locations in the LA metro area. Pros: - Free Parking! - mens steam room is nice - big free weight area - clean - front desk staff are nice - newer cardio machines with Apple Watch pairing Cons: - Hard to find as a first time guest - the gym layout design is really inconvenient (the women's locker room is on level 1 with the pool, the men's locker room is on level 2 with the entire workout area). So if men want to use the pool, they have to go drenched on the stairs that go thru the workout area? - the locker rooms are VERY outdated. And no integrated locks! (Bring your own!) way too subpar as compared to other locations. - the shower area is really small - no hairspray was available when I went - men's vanity area is small - no locker room attendant to be seen cleaning or supplying in the men's locker room read more

On one hand we have $19 per month "Fitness 19" and on ther other 1 bloock away is $215+ Equinox. It's like the 3 stoges. I live across the street from both, and have to give the Fitness 19 a 5 star only because at least you get what you pay for. I'd happily pay $215 if I wanted all the amenities, but I just want weights a couple times a week, but they wont budge. It's not the money it's the value. BTW - I was a bit short with the gals that quoted me that number today, I apologize for just walking away. The gym is clean and never too packed but the hours are horrible. The crowd is older 50+ which is fine no "influencers" taking pictures like other equinox. MAJOR CONS: - Closes at 5pm on weekends for the price this is insane!!! Not worth the price I work from 7am- 6pm most day so by the time I get there it's like 45 minutes to work out. - Also every other day they should close at least at 10pm not 9pm - The sauna also closes 30 minutes prior to the gym closing which is not fair as the gym already closes early read more

I just joined Equinox and so far I am very pleased! Tatiana has been more than helpful and I appreciated her assistance with all my requests. The gym is very nice and I love the towel service. The bathrooms are very clean and have nice amenities. I also haven't had any problems getting onto a treadmill machine. So far, I've had one personal training session and experienced a yoga class. I am looking forward to attending one of the spinning classes and trying their salt water pool. The gym is easy to get to and very accessible from the parking garage. read more

This gym is something else. $200/month for a gym with no basketball court, small weight room, closes at 5pm on weekends, 9pm on weekdays and they close even earlier on holiday weekends (3pm all Labor Day weekend). Seriously? Only reason I even came here was because it's essentially the only commercial gym in Palos Verdes but it has no benefits of a typical commercial gym. They also use Life equipment (same equipment as LA fitness or 24 hour fitness). Oh, and did I mention their AC was broken for 2 months during the summer? They are absolutely robbing people. read more

After dreading the process from other locations, Kenny made this one the easiest I've ever experienced. Everything was done extremely fast and efficiently. WOW okay judge me for what I'm about to say but... when I moved to China for a year for my dual degree the thing I missed the most (besides my family and friends) was Equinox. Equinox is the cleanest gym that it makes working out fun. It's actually the facility that made me enjoy going to the gym (over fitness classes). Equinox PV is so well maintained. The membership manager Robin is absolutely the sweetest, and the whole staff feels so welcoming. There's always spots / weights available for what you want to do and the whole ~vibe of the place feels amazing. Now that I am back in town after spending over 10 years abroad I finally set my goal to get back in shape. Signed up at this Equinox PV location as it's close to where I live. Ample parking and is close to the movie theatre. Gym is clean. Staff is kind and pleasant. For now, I don't care too much about the classes. I usually do the cardio and weights. However, the trainer contacted me to set up a Fitness Assessment which will evaluate my movement and body composition. Further, he explained the evaluation will create a baseline for reaching my fitness goals...blah..blah..blah... So hey, I believe you okay! Sounds good to me. I'll take it. This Equinox location also provide small pool and steam room. It's great that they open early in the morning at 4:30am and close at 10pm on weekdays. I just wish they open 24hr... Or at least till 11:00PM. read more

I come here to workout with beautiful people in a clean place. Yes, it's elitist but why not treat yourself to the best gym experience.

I've been to several different gyms in the past on both the East and West coasts and this is by far the best gym chain when it comes to quality. This specific location (PV) doesn't get too crowded. Other locations can get a little busy during peak after work hours but definitely not close to the crowd level like say a 24 hour fitness where it's basically like a scene from Hunger Games when trying to get the machine you want. Price is a bit steep if you're coming from your average gym chain, but, the amenities and cleanliness and overall environment outweigh the cost IMO. One of the very few things I think worth splurging on given the amount of times I go. Only downside are the hours of operation, weekends specifically. read more

I stopped by here a couple Saturdays ago, with my 4 yr old. I called them before I went and the guy said that kid's care closed at 1:30pm. I was ecstatic, especially since Every other gym's kid's club closed at 12pm! Anyway, I got there and they apologized but corrected their mistake and said that kid's club was going to close in less than an hr! Meaning that it closed at 1pm. So I had to rush through my workout, then try to shower and go get my son before they closed. Well, I figured, maybe I can just pick my son up and then both of us can shower and then head out. It's so sad that kids were not allowed in the pool but also in the freaking bathrooms?! Who the heck reported that a child was in the bathroom with his mother? I told the staff member, who came in to try and kick us out (while I was naked & going into the shower), I'm a single mom and can't just leave my son outside! She tried to say that's why I need to be mindful of the kid's club hours. I was TOLD that it didn't close until 1:30pm. So despite all the misunderstanding...I loved the Eucalyptus towels & how clean it was in the gym...so I'm giving it 4 stars...but please don't give issues to moms who are trying to be healthy and take care of their children. I'll stick to the other gyms for now. read more
