Chose this place due to a recommendation from a coworker and the good location (walkable distance to an Enterprise and several lunch spots right next to the shop). I c alled about an oil leak and they got me in about an hour later. The diagnosis was quick and the cost seemed a lot at first, but then I remembered it probably included the diagnosis cost. I have a 2004 Ford F150, and the original OEM starter lasted for a fantastic 170K miles before making the imminent-death rattle. I took it to F.A.S.T. before it totally crapped out, and they supposedly installed a "genuine Ford part" -- in fact the owner made a point of telling me they had ordered one from ABQ, and so they had my truck for a couple of days while it was (supposedly) being delivered. I will include with this review a couple of pix that highlight the " Factory Ford Part," as they, themselves, stated on their receipt. They charged me an arm-and-a-leg for it, and the price privately irked me. But wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt, I figured they had keystoned the price that they had paid, and thought: "Ah well, it's a genuine Ford starter, so it should easily get me down the road for the remaining life of the truck." That was just 20 months and less than 20K miles ago. So, guess what crapped out this past weekend? Yep. Took it to a different shop and they put in a remanufactured starter for a little over half of what F.A.S.T. charged. I asked the new guy to save the so-called Ford factory starter for me after he removed it; I wanted to take a close look at it, because when I crawled under the truck this past weekend, I could not see any label or markings whatsoever that would indicate it was actually a genuine Ford part. It turns out there WAS a label on the top side of the starter. I will attach a couple of pix of what *** surprise surprise*** the hidden label actually said: REMANUFACTURED. No Ford oval, no Motorcraft sticker, no "genuine Ford part," no stamped/embossed numbers. You can get a remanufactured F150 starter installed in Santa Fe through one (or more) of the following methods: 1.) Buy one for $79. with free shipping, from DB Electrical online, and install it yourself. 2.) Get Expert Auto Repair in Santa Fe to install one for $367. total. Or 3.) Get F.A.S.T. in Santa Fe to install one for $605.05 total. Choose wisely. I really hate it when a business ends up making you feel like a fool to yourself. read more

Literally no stars. Let's just start by saying I was married to an auto mechanic for 14 years so though osmosis I know a bit about wrenching & running of shops. I only choose this shop because it was where the car I just bought had been serviced- big mistake. I was told the car had been gone over, it was a good solid car & all it needed was an ac compressor. Wrong! Made the appointment a few weeks out to get the ac compressor replaced. Got a call if I could push it out longer - they were understaffed. Ok. Finally had it done & drove home. The ac seemed to blow cold but it was just a short drive home & it was a mild temp day. The first day it was hot & I drove around all morning I experienced cool air but not that icy cold ac that I thought I just paid for. Cranked it & it just never got that cold. Took it back & then they discovered the ac fan needed to be replaced. Jim (owner) said he'd get me on the books the next week because it was 6pm on a Friday. He also said he'd take care of me, I believe because of the long time I had been waiting. I called Monday to make an appointment & get a quote on the work. Jim informs me he'll check it out & call back. Crickets. Called again, Jim apologizes & says they have been short staffed & still doesn't put me down an appointment. Then another issue came up, the cabin fan stopped working. Called ol Jim up - no answer left a message about the issue- never heard from them. I ended up taking it to another shop & turns out there was quite a few other issue that needed addressing immediately, rear axel needed replacing & differential fluid was dry. Honesty I don't know how he's still in business with these kinds of practices & no wonder he has staffing problems. DONT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!!!! read more

Okay I think it's time I give a review as my 2013 ford focus has not acted up, and for a FRACTION of the quote (read through). A few months (~May??) ago, it wouldn't want to start up after driving for a while and then stopping. It wasn't bad gas así usually went to the same gas stations for the last four years. My car guru boyfriend checked the spark plugs which looked fried; It kept getting worse until It really didn't want to turn over shortly after changing the spark plugs. I also had a shudder when I accelerated that my boyfriend and I thought was the dual clutch (or a reason to drive it harder) focuses have for longer than the more pressing issue of not starting. I found FAST on Yelp and reached out, explaining the situation and I didn't want to dump much money in as I was looking to get a new car soon (got it in 2016 with 40k miles and now 117k); I had put about $6k in at another place in Fort Collins where I went to school, much of which my uncle or myself could have done for 3/4 the price but as a female and unknowing, said go do it all. I was a bit nervous taking it to a "foreign" auto specialist since I was getting to know cars better. The next day, they called and said they couldn't run it long enough to stimulate the conditions but recommended the (ancient) fuel filter and replacing the purge valve and quoted me at $400. I was on the verge of my price limit and gave it some thought and assertive considerations from the owner to which I gave in and said replace it all once again. They replaced just the purge valve for a FRACTION of the price: $192; a fuel filter is not $200 this I know, including labor. So far, no problems! The longest I've taken it was an hour with a 4.5 hour break, I'll be taking it on a 10hr drive later this month. read more

Vanagon owners, if you're traveling through NM you have to stop in Santa Fe, and if you're in Santa Fe, you have to stop at FAST. There have been a few nagging issues plaguing my Westy for the last few years, and my home shop has been less than effective at eliminating them, despite its great reputation. Maybe it was the altitude, but passing through NM I was stalling at every stop light. Jim at FAST was able to see me immediately and in a day gave my VW a tweak and tune-up that dialed things in unlike ever before. Without changing any parts, she's running better than ever before, purring like a kitten, smooth and steady after 1000 miles, and I am amazed. The owner, Jim, owns a Westfalia himself, along with a classic bug, and clearly loves old Vdubs. Price was very affordable, compared to the shops I'm used to, and I couldn't be happier. We are traveling in an rv from out of state. Our A/C went out 2/3rds of the way to Santa Fe (in July). Looked up repair facilities, read reviews and decided on FAST. Showed up there before they opened ( no appt.), told them my problem and he took me back to my rv. By 5 they had fixed it and another problem, came and picked me up and we are back on the road. We were on a cross-country trip when our car refused to start in Las Vegas, NM. We were towed to Santa Fe. Enroute to Santa Fe I called the Subaru dealer to see if I could get an emergency service repair. They told me the first opening was seven days away (I booked the date in case I couldn't find a repair shop, and when I called back to cancel they told me they didn't have me on the schedule!!) I first called FAST based on numerous recommendations. Jim was so accommodating and willing to place our repair up front so that we could continue on our journey. I needed to get the starter replaced on my dad's Honda Civic, the dealership here in Santa Fe was not much help. The guy must be on crack, lies to his dad about the customer and the Dad takes his word over his own mechanics who are the one's doing the work... Dad becomes controversial and doesn't address the issues or tries to remedy them because "he believes his son"... My car took a rock to the transmission and when the transmission began to fail I took it to the dealer. Big mistake, they wanted more money than the car was worth and wanted to sell me tires. I took my car to Jim Shortle founder of FAST. He not only found me a barely used transmission but also installed a clutch and a flywheel for less money than the dealer wanted for just a refurbished transmission as a part, not including labor! Jim and his son were not only helpful but really flexible and it was one of the best car emergency fixes I ever experienced. I gave up and called FAST auto mechanics to ask if they could take in a Honda if I could get it towed there. Last month, my wife and I were starting a honeymoon and passing through Santa Fe when the brakes on our rental vehicle began screeching horribly. The company asked us to bring it in to this repair shop, who took care of it in one day with great care. They even gave us a lift to a local cafe and recommended visiting a nearby museum called "Meow-wolf" that was lots of fun and helped pass the time. After leaving with the rental, the brakes were just fine for the rest of the trip. Sincere kudos to the team there. read more

I've used FAST for years with great results. They are great techncians and I always know that when I get back my car it is ready to go. I had a recent issue with my old Jeep, the radiator finally gave out, I could see the coolant blowing out the side of it. Got it in to them late afternoon and it was ready the next morning. WOW! If "car repair integrity" coupled with "superior smarts based on beaucoup years of experience" is attractive, rely 100% on this business to cure your automobile. Arrived in Santa Fe, barely at 35 mph, having driven for 9 hours from Phoenix. Was directed to Foreign Auto Services because the universe liked me. Plus Foreign Auto Service suggested a car rental agency that gave me a preferred rate even though the timing preceded Indian Market by just a few days. Within less than 48 hours my previously ailing Eurovan was functioning like a different car, a better car. Thank you Jim and Jim (father and son mechanics) !!!! read more

This mechanic is both untrustworthy and inept. After taking my car into this garage to get the AC fixed, a few days later I heard that my start had mysteriously stopped working. After days of arguing with mechanic, explaining that the starter that was deemed "broken" was only 4 months old, Jim (the owner) was adamant about not taking responsibility for the starter which stopped working while the car was in their care! Then - after about 5 days of having the car in the shop, the starter MYSTERIOUSLY began to work without repair. This mechanic lied about my new starter being broken in an attempt to make me replace it, and had to back pedal once I showed him the proof that the starter was new. They also misinstalled my seatbelt clips, and replaced a pricey compressor which was not the cause of another problem. AVOID THIS LYING MECHANIC read more

I've been going to Jim & Jeb for a few years now, since purchasing my 2001 Golf TDI in 2004. My car had 24K miles on it when I bought it and now has 182K. After going to the VW dealer on one repair I felt I was reamed, financially speaking. When my first timing belt change came due these guys quoted me a price that was $400 cheaper than the dealer and included all the normal wear & tear parts (tensioner, waterpump, etc). I went with them and felt I got great service. Keep in mind that VWs are not cheap to repair or buy parts for. I recently took my car in for another timing belt change. I did call two other shops and the dealer. Dealer was the highest, one shop was low ($900) but didn't included new engine mounting bolts and other parts. A shop in Abq (Anton's) was the same price as these guys but further to drive. $1100 was the quoted price. I knew I needed a new thermostat and asked to have that done, as well as a cooling system flush & fill. Total for everything came to $1300 before tax. I also knew I had an issue with the brakes but didn't mention it to Jim when I dropped it off - since I do my own brake work. I assumed I needed new pads (I have the original pads up front still, after 182K) but when Jim drove the car he noticed the brakes not fully engaging. While working on the car he found a crack in the hose running from the engine to the booster unit and replaced it, a $47 part and $79 labor. Result - brakes right now are as good as new. I wish I had been told about the booster vacuum hose via phone call before he decided to replace it, but being that it is February and cold in my garage, I probably would have OK'd the repair anyway. On my own, I wouldn't have found the hose crack for some time. I am impressed that they sensed the same problem I had experienced with the brakes; it shows attention to detail. I know that I did not buy a part or service that I did not need. read more

We're traveling the country in a '91 VW vanagon that had some problems and was breaking in a new engine by driving to Santa Fe. I went there for an oil change, but more importantly they answered all sorts of small tedious questions about the bus and why it broke down. They calmed our nerves and changed the coil too. I have an 81 diesel rabbit pickup (caddy) that I had serviced by my mechanic from Wisconsin. I moved to Santa Fe nervous I wouldn't find someone with the knowledge and experience to work on it. All I needed this first stop was a brake fluid reservoir cap. He sold me a used one for pocket change. These guys are great. I used them back in 1997 (on my '84 318i) when I lived in Santa Fe. I drove out from CA in my VW Eurovan in 2017 and had some issues with my van. I arrived on a Saturday afternoon and Jim had a new fuel filter in my van in a few hours and I was back on the road. I went back for additional service later in the week.
