We used Fast Tax Services since 2000. We signed our 2024 documents on 2/7/2025 for electronic filing and paid them. We were to receive $ back from the State, and usually receive our state refund within a few weeks, but never received it. In March we called Fast Tax Services, who advised us they could not help us with our refund. We were unable to follow up until May and spent hours and days calling the Calif Tax Board for help. On 5/12/2025 we finally found a guy at the CA tax board who advised they had never received our 2024 filing. I called Fast Tax Services the next day and asked if our taxes had been filed with the state. If so, when they file as a responsible business, didn't they always confirm all tax returns filed? They said yes but sometimes things can "fall through the cracks." He also told me their records reflect we had not paid them! I told him we definitely paid when we signed our documents, I was very concerned and left a message for our tax preparer, to call me. He didn't, so on 5/14/2025 we checked online and then the status had changed from not being filed and reflected our 2024 Return Status as Received. We received our refund shortly afterwards. It appears Fast Tax Services hurriedly filed the state documents within the 2 days after my call. We never received a call back from our tax preparer. Would not recommend this service. read more

I emailed Billy Greff to get some quotes for my W-2 income, business taxes, and business book keeping since I am a W-2 employee and small business owner. I ask questions over emails with him because I have been scammed previously by tax preparers. He provided no quotes despite me having the exact transactions and refused to answer any more questions once I asked him what his tax license number was and if he would represent me in audit since he would do my taxes. I had a reallyy bad experience with them. First I called when yelp said they were open, and they were not open. I was referred to Billy by a friend and she said " oh yes they are great, you are having this issue , you should call them and they will give you a quick free consultation". Absolutely not. They wanted $350 for a consultation and my question was simple. No number crunching. And honestly, if he would have talked to me for 3 min I probably would have gotten my taxes done by him, my fiancé would go and probably my whole family. There is something to be said about helping good customer service and helping out a potential client. They would have had my business for life. Now, I would never recommend them. Just went there today in the afternoon on a Saturday and there wasn't any line, so we were helped immediately. The entire process took about 15 minutes. They really do live up to their name of fast tax services. I went here because it was my first time filing as married, But I wasn't sure what to do since my husband is an immigrant and hasn't been working in the states yet. Anyway they charged me about 115$ but because I mentioned Yelp they gave me a 10% discount. The lady who helped me was Robin, the daughter of Walt and Shirley, was able to help me get about $4,000 in refunds! YAY! read more

We have been going to Billy and Karla since we purchased our little house in Eagle Rock. Back then they were located pretty much around the corner from us on Eagle Rock Blvd. in a tiny little place (that is now Love Lace). We have followed them up Colorado to their two different locations. It is great that they now have a bigger space (with more street frontage) which makes them all the more dog friendly (Fast Tax was an early supporter of 'Dogs of the Rock' and its dog park petition gathering efforts). More importantly however, we go because they make us comfortable and we feel so very well taken care of each and every time we go. I'm really disappointed in my experience at Fast Tax this year. My tax preparer forgot to submit my tax returns. That is not what bothered me, though - I totally understand that we're human and everyone make mistakes. The problem is that I was left totally in the dark about the status of my return for 3 weeks that I tried to reach the office. Making the appointment was super easy, I got a response the same day within hours. The appointment itself was timely and efficient. Trying to reach someone after I've paid and left? Impossible. After checking the status of my return on the IRS website after a couple of weeks and seeing that it hadn't been submitted, I grew concerned and emailed my tax preparer. Two emails later, no response. So I started calling the office and kept being told that I would be called back (i.e. later in the day, tomorrow morning, etc.) I even requested to speak with the manager and was told that he would call me back. No one ever called me. Finally, on my 6th call (3 weeks after my first email attempt!), I finally got a hold of my tax preparer who admitted that it wasn't filed. If my tax preparer or the manager had just communicated with me or at least gave me one minute of their time to tell me they were working on it, I wouldn't be as upset. But I was basically ignored and I just feel like my time as not respected at all. read more

These guys are absolute criminals, I did my taxes with a mom and pop company that "FAST TAX" bought out, I called them to get my records as I am using a different accountant and they want to charge $35 to email each return for my personal and business for MY records. This is complete usury and disgusting!!!! Edit: Hey Bill, I did try and give you guys a chance, but you were only open until 4:00 every day and closed on the weekend. I am a contractor and work from 7 to 7 daily, the service that my previous company that you bought out provided was an availability to meet on nights and weekends after work. Bottom line is I paid MY accountant (not you) thousands of dollars to do my taxes each year all the way back to 2009 and now you want me to pay you $500 for EMAILS of MY RECORDS. I don't care how you justify it to yourself but it's disgusting and a rip off and you know it. read more

Karla prepared our taxes for a few years. Always great service. For that we thank her very much. We recommended their services to a few family members. Year after year always impressed by how detailed oriented she was in handling our taxes. There's a BUT... Last couple of years we've been having a bad experience with them. Our taxes were NOT filed. They forgot to file them. Hey mistakes happened, I can understand that. But what made the situation worse was she would NOT return my calls. To this day, she never called back. I would call and ask for Karla and they would say "who's calling" and as soon as I said my name they would say she was not available. Also many emails sent with no response back. This went on for a month. There was a few times where I would politely say to the receptionist, "before I tell you my name, can you just tell me if Karla is available, yes or no". She wouldn't answer my question unless I gave her my name, she would put me on hold and then say "Karla is not available". Finally I drove from Downey to Eagle Rock, I asked to speak with her. I noticed she was with a client. I then requested to speak with Billy, but he wasn't in the office. Billy did return my call and we tried to get things squared away as much as possible. Thank you Billy. Karla- thank you for the service you provided my family and I for many years. The last 2 years left us with a really bad taste. Very unprofessional from your part not to return a call of very loyal clients. read more

My husband called Shirley and informed her that I am an independent contractor (1099), that he is an employer (W-2), and that we own a rental home. She gave us a quote for ~ $200-$225, and commented that any additional forms would cost $25 each. Since her quote was competitive, and she was rated well on Yelp, we chose to go with Shirley. Over the phone Shirley told us all the required documents to bring in, including the expenses for the independent contractor and rental information. Street parking was convenient, but the office was small, crowded and disorganized. Shirley and her assistant (her daughter) were friendly initially. It took Shirley 90 minutes to complete our taxes, which is a long time compared to our past experiences and the experiences of friends and family. In the end, she charged us $330 (that's including the 10% of for mentioning yelp) ! We mentioned about her quote via phone and she changed her tone of voice and became short with us. She defensively accused us of failing to mention that I am an independent contractor and that we own a rental home... We went home and confirmed through our notes not only that my husband did in fact mention everything, but that Shirley also called back to request we bring in the required documents for 1099 and all the expenses and the rental property information In summary, it was a disappointment that she was so slow to complete our taxes, and that she charged us $100 more than her quote. But the bigger disappointment was that it seemed dishonest of her to blame the difference of charge to the our lack of communication. We left feeling as though she lacked in customer service, and integrity, and that she had conscientiously taken advantage of us. read more

It's Tax Time again, folks, and you know what that means! Waiting for those W-2s, waiting to get those IRS forms, and waiting until April 15 to sit in line at the post office to make sure your hastily-prepared forms get postmarked in time because you waited until the very last possible minute to do your taxes. Wait, what? You still do your own taxes? Well, I did too, but following my father's passing in 1998, I had some rather complicated tax issues to deal with seeing as I was NOT a spouse and as such, would be taxed on anything he left accordingly, which is to say out of the wazoo! So, I went to another tax preparer in Arcadia at the recommendation of an ex - my first mistake - armed with receipts, papers, and all kinds of scary looking documents. The guy assured me he could help, so I left him my stuff, paid his fee and split. After several months went by with no refund, AND the IRS' automated service line could not find a record of my return on file, I called said tax preparer back - my second mistake. He went through his files, found my paperwork and said, "Yep. I sent it. But if the IRS can't find it, you might want to find someone who can refile your taxes electronically so you can get your refund faster." That was the very last time I spoke to that joker. And the very last time I would ever hear the word refund, at least for that tax season. I pick up the phone book - my only source of reliable info at this point - and look up nearby tax preparers who might be willing to re-e-file my returns for me. That's when I saw the little ad for Fast Tax Services. They were right up the street from my church in Eagle Rock - an area I was quite familiar with - and so I called and spoke to Walt, one half of the husband-wife dynamic duo that run this place. I went into the office with my documents, explained my situation, and Walt and his wife Shirley assured me they'd be able to help. In fact, they took my paperwork and tackled my return right there on the spot while I went off to have some lunch. Upon my return Walt said, "Um, you might want to sit down for a moment." Not the thing you want to hear when dealing with the IRS and potentially huge tax liabilities. But since I was due a refund, I thought maybe I was getting a bigger one than I'd originally thought. Cool! Walt explained that he had gone over my paperwork with a fine tooth comb, and said that Shirley had run the numbers, too. Both of them came to the same conclusion: the previous tax preparer had made a huge mistake - IN THE IRS' FAVOR - and I OWED them money! For the next half-hour or so, Walt and Shirley comforted me, explained my situation and my options - and if I'm not mistaken, they didn't charge me a penny! In spite of my suddenly huge tax liability - which, mind you was late because I had no idea I owed anything - from that day forward I was hooked. I returned to Fast Tax the following year and have had them prepare my taxes every year since. I've also referred several friends to them in the decade that has ensued, and they continue to use Fast Tax as well. So put down those pencils, move away from the calculator, throw away - er, I mean recycle - those 1040EZ forms, and go see the good folks at Fast Tax Services! The office is honestly creepy, the walls are bare, it's super tiny and claustrophobic. BUT don't let that deter you because everyone is amazing, friendly, and answered all of my husband's and my incessant questions about our rather difficult taxes. Shirley is an Enrolled Agent, and a great one at that. She helped us out of a very tricky IRS issue that we could not have handled on our own. She spent hours on the phone with the IRS and thoroughly explained our situation to us in a way that we could understand. If it were not for Shirley and her knowledge and professionalism, I don't know what we would have done. This lady knows her stuff, people! Just an FYI, YOUR TAX PROBLEMS WILL NOT GO AWAY ON THEIR OWN, they only compound and get worse. You cannot blame the tax preparer for your tax issues, Shirley has to stay within the boundaries of tax laws to keep you out of hot water. If you owe money, you owe money, it's that simple. It's also best to take care of filing your tax return early in the season before the rush. Shirley's business is boomin' and it gets busier as the doom date draws near. I always make an appointment rather than just walk in. It's easier for all parties involved to do so. I just need to get one last thought in and that is that I KNOW Shirley's rates are the best around especially for the high level of knowledge and experience she possesses. At 6.30 this morning I was wrenched awake by a vivid nightmare that I hadn't paid my taxes and was putting on an orange jumpsuit. When the dream cleared, I realized it was about to come true! Off I scurried down the street to Fast Tax Services, where Robin Law responded to my walk-in. I explained. She typed. It was done in 15 minutes! But the nightmare wasn't over. After bad service from H&R fly by night Block, I have gained lost confidence in CPA by having my taxes done by Billy at Fast Tax Services. This is a family owned professional tax service and is as good as it gets. I was in and out in an hour and did not owe nearly as much as H&R said. The office is clean and friendly, very adept, and easy to get to from Hollywood. It only took 20 minutes driving with very little traffic, even on Friday. The prep is reasonably priced and extremely organized. Billy is very friendly and helpful which I'm sure the whole family staff is. I'm relieved to know they will be there for me when filing comes around next October. read more

Fast Tax did our taxes for the two years we lived in LA 2015-2016. They were easy to work with, and (we thought) thorough...that was the single most important reason we chose to use and accountant at all, because we wanted to make sure all our ducks in a row, and didn't want to solely rely on ourselves. We wanted someone who really knows what's going on to check us on things. Fast forward to 2018 and we received a letter from the IRS saying we out $2360 from 2016 taxes. Come to find out, Fast Tax WAS NOT thorough. We had failed to provide a tax document (our fault, yes, but we didn't know what we didn't know because we provided everything we had...again, we wanted someone to back check us). A thorough accountant would've seen the discrepancy from year to year and followed up with us to provide it (which we would've done if we had known it was missing!) before taxes were even filed. Their argument was that they "did their due diligence" (which was what?) and took no responsibility. Fast forward to Sept 2020, and the CA Franchise Tax Board sends us a letter saying we owe $1540 again from 2016 Taxes. We contacted Fast Tax to take a look at the letter since they did our taxes and they want to charge us a $300 fee to review the work they made a mistake on. Really? Take responsibility for your work! We emailed saying we would not pay that because this is the SECOND mistake they made in the same filing year. They sent an email back to us saying they did not make a mistake--oh yeah? If you didn't make a mistake, then why do we keep getting letters saying we owe money? Because if you had done a right and thorough job, none of us would be in Yelp right now. PROVE it wrong and just review the darn paperwork because you STAND BY YOUR WORK. Bottom line, DO NOT USE FAST TAX if you want a thorough, honest, and caring company. They don't care about their clients. It's in-and-out, transactional, and petty money hungry company. They don't stand by their work and if you don't keep tabs on every single account they will not watch your back. They don't have your best interests at heart. All the want to do is your taxes as simply as possible with as least amount of hassle to them as possible. read more
