La Vela is a fantastic addition to the Solomons Island area. Great service, good location,…read morefantastic food and a brilliant menu. The vibe inside the restaurant is perfect. The duck breast and penne Santa Luca are excellent. Drink service is likewise on point. One of the very best Italian restaurants in St Mary's County!

You climb a flight of stairs to get to the restaurant. The inside is attractively decorated. Since it was a beautiful day, we chose to sit out on the covered porch, with views of the water. There were a number of parties there for Friday at lunch, but it was not full. We did not make a reservation for lunch, but I understand it is necessary at dinner. Our server was pleasant. We shared the fried green tomato appetizer (four slices, with marinara sauce & cheese). I ordered the chicken Milanese off the lighter menu. It was a fried cutlet, served with arugula and shaved parmesan, with a touch of a lemon dressing. Quite tasty. Others in the party ordered the lobster ravioli (which looked delicious) and the Bolognese. I would give the food five stars. There were a few hiccups with the service (having to repeat requests for bread, for a box for leftovers), but nothing that detracted from an overall nice experience. I would definitely go again.

Including The Naughty Gull, Solomon's Pier, Harbor Lights and The Lighthouse. We have had a lot of "good" and "not so good" meals over the years. But for the last several years we have been opting for The Island Hideaway. Every time has been truly exceptional!! Service, food and atmosphere!! Easter brunch today was no different! "Angie", "Angelina", "Gina"was the best server we have had yet!! We will be back again soon!! Senn/Graves Party

Where ever we dine I am always respectful and accommodating to the staff at each restaurant we enter. When greeted by a waiter or waitress after they ask how we are and introduce themselves, I always respond with, "We are fine, how are you ?". At the close of our meal on June 11 at about 2pm, our waitress asked if we would like separate checks. I have no idea of why she asked this of my husband and I except that we are a bi racial couple. Nonetheless, I find it offensive, and my guess is almost all married couples would also be offended. At no time did we ask or require her to make any assumptions regarding our order, we engaged with her respectfully and directly. I just don't understand why she could ask this and react to us this way, particularly because we were nothing but appreciative and respectful to her. Why couldn't she return that ? What is very revealing is that this never happens when we dine at CD Cafe, Tiki Bar, La Vela, Solomons Pier, Sweetbay, Pier 450, Courtneys, Black Salt, Charleston in Baltimore, Elizabeths in DC, Le Diplomat in DC, or any of the restaurants we have ever dined in Chicago, NYC, London, Paris, or Tokyo.

The Brussels sprout with hoisin sauce wasn't the best combination. It was too salty and I already have asked for less sauce. The meat lovers pizza crust was too soft. Decent beer selection.

Immediately greeted upon entry and chose the dining room and maybe had 3 other couples at the same time. Cole was our server and they were fantastic! Attentive and never let the beer get empty and was willing to suggest substitutions or modifications with ease and expertise! We had the crab dip to start and honestly I'd give it a 3.2/5. Definitely had a crab flavor but it had much more cheese than meat. Wifey ordered the Brussels sprouts and old bay wings as her meal and I went with the prime dip with bacon and duck fat fries. Brussels weren't hoisin like on menu but left dry with a balsamic sauce on the side! Crunchy and flavorful! 4.4/5! Wings were perfectly seasoned and huge! Perfectly crispy and delicious. 4.7/5! As for the Prime Dip! Sooo much cheese. Must have a Green Bay Packer fan in the kitchen or something but hot damn. Prime rib was flavorful. Bacon was a genius addition by yours truly. Would order again. 4.89/5. Would love a seeded hoagie roll with this. Love this old watering hole. Irish Stout was a banger and Rud Light never fails! Will return!! 4.85/5!!!!

They roast their own coffee! Wow! Yum!…read more On a weekend morning (Jun 2026), we were in the vicinity of Solomons MD, and friends said that Bugeye Grill roasts their own coffee. That got our attention! We stopped in at this bright clean restaurant on a late weekend morning, (weekdays they open at 5pm). The French-press coffee was a tasty fragrant medium Brazilian blend. The flavor was well balanced, and it was a good smooth non-acidic coffee We found it to be a creamier fragrant brew, not a darker roasty flavor. It had a lightly malty sweetness and nuttiness, characteristic of its blend of Brazilian arabica, robusta, and hybrid beans. They have different blends from time to time. They really are a full-menu restaurant terrific views of Back Creek, and a midscale-classy vibe. They focus on seafood and steaks and lobster! We saw sandwiches around $20. This time, we came for the coffee. It was luscious!

First timers on Solomon and at Bugeye Grill. I will admit that we stopped by this restaurant…read morebecause it was one of the first ones that had outdoor seating (we were visiting with a dog). The restaurant had a nice variety of dishes and specialty cocktails...I think that I was more interested in the latter. ;) Since I have not visited Solomons, MD before, I cannot comment if the prices are comparable to other places in the area. However, most of the entrees were in the $25 and up range. I thought my fish and chips (I forget the actual name of the dish) were fine, and my spouse really enjoyed the crab cake sandwich. Although I thought the portion sizes for the sandwiches and fries were fine, the serving size of the mussels seemed a bit small. However, this could have been an optical illusion because the serving bowl for the mussels was HUGE, so the amount of mussels could have appeared to be smaller than what it was. I thought the outdoor patio was great especially with a view of the water and folks going about their business. However, some may not like the setup because you are right on the main street, which can be a bit noisy especially if a lot of bikers are cruising up and down the strip. Parking was a bit of a struggle (not the fault of the restaurant). During our visit, all of the public parking lots were full. However, we visited on Mother's Day weekend so maybe there were more folks (including us ) in the area than normal. I'll admit that since this was my first time visiting the area that I'm not too familiar about the ebb and flow of parking. Overall, our server (who reminded me a bit of a young Jodie Foster) was amazing. One thing that I really appreciated was her telling us about a potential delay for the food due to a large party. Although no one wants to hear that after ordering food, I think it's nice and considerate when a server provides a heads-up so diners can adjust accordingly.
