Chicago girl APPROVED! What I'm disappointed about is I'm JUST NOW trying them. They reminded me of everything home. From the size of the gyro down to the taste. I got my onions grilled. They give you a lot of meat but that's how it's done at home. I like that they didn't overcook the meat, the sauce was right and even the fries were ok. In other reviews someone mentioned they don't grill the onions and another said the sauce was just sour cream. So I'm guessing they made changes because I didn't have those experiences. I like to eat some of my meat, tomatoes and onions in one sitting and come back later and eat the rest with the pita. For this review I did take a bite to make sure they put the pita on the grill with a lil oil without me asking. They did. I'll be back! Crazy thing is I've been so put off with food around here that I refused to try what I'm used to eating at home. But this was such a pleasant surprise. read more

You know, that stop on the side of the road where you go in wide-eyed & hungry and come out with a greasy paperbag filled with yumminess? That's Fat Albert's. This carry out joint has a very limited menu, but that's fine because it means they've perfected what they cook. I recall burgers, and steak sandwhiches, philly style, and gyros. It's always fun to hear folk pronounce or mispronounce the beloved pita sandwich. All sandwhiches are served with a handful of greasy fries. I ordered a steak sandwich. First time I've had a "philly" with mozzarella so it didn't really taste like a philly. It also could have used some seasoning. The meal was inexpensive and yummy, just needed a little salt. I would recommend it as the best steak sandwich I've had thus far in Mississippi. GPS took me right there. There's an ample lot with plenty parking. read more

Let me just go ahead and say it: i adore this place. For such a small building it left a huge impression on me! I came into the store and ordered a Philly Steak sandwich. I get my bag and get on the road, but boy was I surprised when I opened it up. For an $8 meal with fries, I got so much food for my buck it was unreal! You can pay these prices at most other restaurants and get half the portions! Not only that, it was good. REALLY good. Bite after bite I enjoyed my food. This place looked like a run down good place, but heck, I'll give it a shot. Walked in and the maskless woman behind the counter says " you need a mask" . Lol, so I looked around at the nasty condition of the inside( filthy, dirty, and probably roach infested), and said, See ya! If you've been to a Chicago mom and pop that sells Gryros - that's how Fat Albert's makes theirs! PERIOD! The Gyro meat is piled sky high, with thin sliced onions, tomato's and a decent tziki sauce! If you think Keifer's is better than Fat Alberts - after having one of Fat Albert's - I suggest seeking psychological help, as well as, don't invite me over to your house for dinner - because your taste buds are way off! Let me add that Albert's even GIVES French fries with your Gyro - so its not a side order. So what I would pay $12 for at Keifers (double meat gyro) - I get for $7 and some change at Fat Albert's. I finally have my Gyro place in Jackson - I don't have to wait for the State Fair to get a good Gyro! read more

I truly wanted to love this place. The reviews have been good but I did not like their Philly cheesesteak. I've heard better reviews about their gyros and I might venture out and try them but it will take a minute for me to work up the nerve. The owners were pleasant and everything is cooked to order, it just wasn't that good to me. The meat was not seasoned, the peppers/onions didn't have the grilled taste although they were and the cheese had no taste. I was not a fan of the product, it would have been the ingredients they were using. It smelled amazing but it tasted like it was messing everything. read more

I was dying for a gyro, so I decided it was time to take everyone's advice and try Fat Albert's. Man, that sucker was huge. No wonder some of y'all order an extra pita and side of sauce! They were running low on sauce, so I was disappointed I couldn't get extra. It was a little bland, though. It needed maybe a bit of garlic or something. The Italian beef was more spicy than seasoned, even more so if you get it with giardiniera. I also prefer a chewier bread that stands up better to dipping. I don't care for really soft, soggy bread, but I find most people here do. I only ate a couple of bites of this tonight to try it. The cheesesteak was better seasoned than the Italian. It looks like the cheese is all clumped in one spot, but it was actually all throughout. I actually liked this better than the Italian beef. Atmosphere: pay it no mind. It's strictly a to-go place. If you're lucky, you'll get one of the two folding chairs. Service: 5 Friendly and efficient. She told me 15-20min; it was ready in *exactly* 20. They accidentally had 2 gyros on my order instead of 1. She immediately offered to refund my money for one, but I didn't want to bother. I just kept the extra one. Food: 4 Portions are huge. Fries are included with the price. I'll give the gyro another try, and would go back for the Philly cheese steak for sure. read more

Nicest proprietor, goes over the top and the food has always been good. I work in the area and some one from work eats there at least every day, many times several folks come with burgers, gyros, tenders or wings. Real Chicago-type dogs and gyros stuffed with freak meat and sauce. You have to give it a try. read more

Wow! What a great gyro! I am in town for a night, and I found this place on yelp. I didn't happen to check their hours, but I got there at 7:58. When I saw their hours on the door I felt terrible, but the man inside motioned for me to come in. I ordered a gyro and waited patiently. It didn't take long, though he still made it with great care. I tried to tip but he would not accept anything. When I got back to my room I finally opened the bag and pulled the 2 lb. brick out. It was remarkable. I will make it a point to come back whenever I am in town for both the food and the service. I was blown away. read more

Looked at other yelp reviews for Fat Alberts before visiting and was not disappointed. Owner/cook made food fresh right in front of my eyes as kitchen is right in front area. Kitchen was very clean and portioning was more than enough for this 170 lb diner. Very good place for take-out read more

I visited Fat Albert last Tuesday for lunch my son bought me a gyro well it was fantastic , so good. I go to Chicago quite often and they have the best gyros in Greek town. Well fat Alberts rank right up there with Greektown please don't change. read more

I've been going to this restaurant regularly since they've opened. However today's experience made me never go again. The woman was extremely rude. Tried to run my card twice and yelled at me for allowing her husband to fix my food wrong. As if I knew it was my food when she didn't write my order down. I work down the street and this place was one of my coworkers and I favorite. We went quite often. The customer service was always not what it should be but we gave them a pass because the food was pretty good. This past week we went in and ordered our food, as usual. Once I received my order (6 piece wings with fries) the man asked what kind of sauce. I asked for hot sauce and ranch. Then I asked for a few packets of ketchup. He told me that it would be an extra charge. I asked, "I have to pay extra for ketchup for my fries?" He got frustrated with me, grabbed my plate, opened it, and squirted ketchup all over my fries. I was appalled! Once I would've gotten back to the office my fries would've been soggy with ketchup on top. Besides, I DO NOT put ketchup on top of my fries. If he would've asked, I would've politely asked that he just squirt some in a corner so that I can dip them. I told him this and that's when the woman came over and asked what was going on. Once he gave me new fries (even though they were cold), the lady rudely said to me "we don't give out ketchup with fries." I disappointedly grabbed my food and left with no intentions of EVER returning. Hoping that I would be able to find a few packs of ketchup back at the office. The food is good but the customer service SUCKS. I try and support our local businesses but that was the breaking point for me. I hope no one else has that experience. read more
