We were a group of 12, my brother in law called and made a reservation over a month before, then called to confirm a few days before. They confirmed the reservation with him. We arrived after a long day of traveling and they had no reservation for us and said they had no room for us . This was pretty frustrating, especially since we had 4 kids under 6 with us. So then we decided we will just order take away and eat it at a park. When we went to order our food the staff said to wait and they would make sure they could get us seated. They worked super fast and got a table from a large group that just left ready for us. We really appreciated that. Pizza was excellent, drinks were excellent. So we asked different local people what they recommend, so after we purchased the first pizza, it looked like an individual size, so we bought another from the second choice and that was not much bigger. We remembered as we were walking through Queenstown that there was another shop handing out samples and it said "Largest Pizza in Queenstown", that was a go for us were quantity was most important, so we got a 3rd pizza from 3 different pizza restaurants. Ended up, all 6 of us preferred the Fat Badgers the most! Half Fat Badger, Half Arnold Schwarzenegger was a very tasty pizza and good size. Was loaded with lots of ingredients and very generous. We were looking for lunch and found this place online here. Being a proud Wisconsin Native I of course had to check it out. It's a small spot with a great selection of pizza, 1 salad and beer and soft drinks. We ended up ordering the Badger Italian pizza with great spicy pepperoni and a second pepperoni-like sausage (plus mushrooms but we left those off). There are two sizes, 12" and 20". We had 12" and the salad (minus the feta and olives) and it was just enough for two. The have both indoor and outside tables in a shaded and breezy alley. Place your order at the bar and pay, then they bring your food out to you to enjoy. First of all, I have to say that the quality of the pizzas here completely exceeded my expectations. On top of that, the variety of toppings available to choose from and the variety of suggested configurations is pretty amazing as well. Yes, the pizzas can be big. But you can also order 12-inch versions for $16 with all of the toppings of the bigger pies. This is pretty helpful for two people who can't agree on what they like! I chose an Italian Stallion (pepperoni, mushrooms, sausage) and added jalapeños for a nominal surcharge. My friend had a The Full English pizza, which had full English breakfast toppings on it. I was skeptical of that one, but man it was delicious! The staff was friendly and helpful, as well as efficient. We enjoyed the place so much we came back a second time with our limited time in Queenstown. If I'm ever back to Queenstown, this is the first restaurant I'll be back to! read more

We stopped in for pizza. The actual establishment is somewhat forgettable. A couple of draft beer choices; however, no IPA's at the time of our dining. Therefore, this left us wanting for more. In regards to the pizza, I have to say that I liked the toppings--not super memorable, but not bad either. We ordered the one with chicken and other meats... something like a meat-lovers. Two issues I had [basically, with all the pizzas we tried in Queenstown] is that the crust--seemingly not hand tossed but rather frozen(?)--is super thin and more like eating a saltine cracker crust, i.e., no breadiness, not doughy. And then, the sauce is not tomato-y, nor zesty. In fact, there seemed to be little if any sauce on the pizza. I hate to beat them up too bad for this, especially since the other three pizzerias we ate at had the same issue. Therefore, it may be a NZ thing, or at least a Queenstown thing. Otherwise, it was pretty 'good'. So, my advice, get better beer selection, pizza sauce and crust and you'll blow the other pizzerias out of the water. read more

Nice little spot to sit and people watch at the top of the mall. I ordered a slice of pepperoni pizza and the poutine, along with a ginger ale to drink. The total was around 33nzd. The pizza was good, but nothing extraordinary. The crust was thin and had a nice chew to it, which I think is appropriate. There was good coverage on the slice with pepperoni, so nothing to complain about on the toppings. Based on their website, I had been expecting a specific specialty pizza to be available by the slice, but when I went to the bar to order, I was told that a different specialty pizza was available, along with the pepperoni and margarita. The available specialty did not appeal to me so I went with the pepperoni. So, I would suggest if you are planning to buy a slice to be flexible. Their listing of what is available each day on the website may not be accurate. The poutine was ok. Not really a true poutine, as they used shredded mozzarella as the cheese rather than fresh curd. The fries were your average restaurant quality frozen potatoes. The gravy was good, and there was plenty of gravy and cheese in the dish- this wasn't a token topping that only covered the top layer of fries. Only major complaint would be that the whole affair was kinda salty, probably driven by the gravy. There are some nice tables outside the restaurant under a covered breezeway, with lots of foot traffic making this an ideal place to have a meal and people watch. read more

Everyone is nice in NZ and these folks are no different. However, if you look at it overall, the pizza at Fat Badgers leaves much to be desired. But compared to the general food scene around Queenstown, it's definitely above average. Sorry Queenstown! Anyway, we ordered a large pizza. And like the other reviewers, it is HUGE, like a ~20 inch diameter huge. Toppings can be/were non-existent. I ordered the "Scratching Badger" pizza which touted ricotta cheese, and there was barely any on it. Oh, and same goes for the spinach. Mildly disappointing. I kept thinking that if their large pizza wasn't gigantic, they might be able to portion their toppings better. Oh, and the red sauce was very tomato pasty. Crust? It shames me to say, but ranch could have rectified this whole ordeal to some degree. Interestingly enough, I might even go back here if I wasn't planning on venturing past Camp street. We started with a couple of Monteith's Porters ($14 ea.). Rather than two small pizzas, we went with the half-half large Badger: On one side, the Greek; the other side, Atomic. If you're in a rush, better just go with the single slice; otherwise, the pace was leisurely. That said, once the pie arrived, my goodness, it looked amazing! The thing was HUGE (20" radius)! Naturally, the Greek side came with sliced lamb. Normally, I'm NOT a lamb kinda guy; but, this half was very savory and satisfying. The Atomic side hit the right spice level for me. we went for the large pizza and guess what its huge really, i think the lady serving us also was surprised when we ordered as we were just two and when i saw the size of the pizza easily it can feed 4-5 people. The pizza was very tasty and perfectly baked. next time if i am around this place i will make sure that i order the medium size. Came to this place after our Milford Sound tour so we were hungry. The restaurant only serves pizza in 2 sizes, 12 inch or 20 inch. With such a drastic size difference, it would have been nice to have a size inbetween. The 12 was a bit small for two of us and the 20 inch would leave us leftovers for days...which would have been fine if we were in town for a few more days. We ordered the Fat Badger pizza in the 12 inch and it was great and probably the best pizza we had on our trip with the exception that it was a little too small. However we were both disappointed with the Sista Badger pizza we had from their secret menu, especially when compared to The Cow restaurant that is nearby. The crust and sauce were not very flavorful and the cheese didn't stand out. We went here as a party of 5 and got seated in one of the big red booths straight away. Despite it being a busy night for them, our food came really quickly and was amazing.
