We walked back from the bar at midnight and felt safe! It's an easy walk to all main spots! The Inn: gorgeous! The outside doesn't look big but it's massive inside! It's got roughly 5 bedrooms! The owners stock up the refrigerator with drinks and yoghurt for guests, and there is fresh baked cookies to snack on through the day! The have great teas and coffees 24/7 too. Super cozy and delightful overall! Room: We had the master suite on the top floor and it was super spacious and clean. They have great high quality products! Loved the shampoo, conditioner and lotion! The breakfast! Tim (owner) is a fantastic cook! Each night we would place an order for what we wanted for breakfast the next day! They have a gourmet touch to their breakfast! Tim makes food like an artist does his art! His passion for the culinary shows through the taste and presentation! It's incredibly beautiful! My husband is not a fan of B&B's but Fat Duck Inn is an exception. Your room and bathroom are very private and exceptionally clean. The made to order breakfast is to die for. They gave us great food & wine recommendations such as Long Shadow winery - as they had the winemaker over to plan a wine tasting dinner. Amazing breakfasts each morning that were made to order at the time we picked the night before. This was our first time staying at a B & B. After reading other reviews & viewing photos we chose the Fat Duck Inn. It did not disappoint! Tim & Kim are wonderful & knowledgeable hosts. The place is so clean you could eat off the floor. The bed was comfortable & a perfect place to lay your head. The breakfast was spectacular! I ate it so fast that I didn't get a pix lol! Had the smoked brisket hash, caprese toast, buddy love sandwich & the pork Chile verde omelette. Seriously, they were all amazing but I could have eaten that hash all day! They had great recommendations for local wine & food! We thoroughly enjoyed Brasserie! The Inn is a perfect location to stroll downtown by foot for wine flights/tastings or venture out in your own vehicle for a wine tour. The Fat Duck Inn also offer in house wine tours & dinners. I didn't stay at the Fat Duck Inn, so this review is strictly for the dinner experience. One of the most amazing dinners you can have! Very different from all other "fine" dining restaurants I have experienced. Definitely not for people who do not like to socialize with other people. Fat Duck Inn offers a farm to table dinner for up to 16-18 people only. Reservations are definitely required, so don't forget to call them early! Upon making a reservation, Cynthia, the innkeeper/owner/chef's wife, asked for a credit card, because if you don't show up, they will charge you. She let us know to be there between 6-6:30pm...I thought that was a little weird since I didn't get to pick my own time (newbie for the whole b&b style thing!). Got there around 6:30 pm and was greeted by the wine maker's wife, Amy from Balboa Winery. As soon as you step in you get your first wine/food pairing and can immediately socialize with people (almost like a house dinner party). We were waiting for a few more people to arrive before being able to sit at the table. The courses came out at a slow pace allowing the winery to explain the wine. Everyone would oo and ahh at each course and discuss the food. Super awesome for foodies! The food throughout was super fresh. I just have to say that the portions could've been a tad bigger. Regardless, the ingredients were fresh and succulent...always craved more after eating the course. I was a little underwhelmed by the lemon and goat cheese tart; other than that it was a wonderful experience. (Oo, we got to meet Chef Rich after the dinner) Another thing to note is, they never asked if we had any dietary restrictions..so I don't think they deviate from their menu - please ask when you make a reservation! Cynthia and Rich run the Fat Duck Inn and really make it feel like home. we stayed three nights and were genuinely sad to say goodbye to Rich and Cynthia. Rich's breakfasts are amazing - muffins, frittatas, fresh fruit and vegetables. Plus they do a dinner every Friday and Saturday night that is divine!! It is fun to meet all the dinner guests, some of whom aren't staying at the Inn but have just come for the dinner. TEN STARS! This is hands down the best Bed and Breakfast experience I have ever had. What makes this place stand out above the rest? They truly embrace the service aspect of this business. They go out of their way to not only make you feel like a guest but family. In this industry it can be very hard and they did it very well. The Inn has 5 rooms with lots of space in each room. Breakfast is made by Rich who by the way is a Chef so as you can imagine the food is unlike any typical breakfast you will have. I don't eat cherry tomatoes or mushrooms and I didn't blink an eye when it was served because I knew it was going to be absolutely delish. And it was. They had fantastic recommendations on restaurants and must see wineries/tasting rooms. It is roughly 6 blocks to downtown Main Street, and is nestled in a historic neighborhood with unique homes. Rich will visit a local farm called Froghollow Farm for his weekly meals, so we decided to check it out and Amy was fantastic. Freshly picked fruit and veggies just waiting for you! Overall our stay was incredible! The Inn was easy to find, though I didn't expect it to be located in a beautiful tree lined, manicured-sidewalk, quiet street. We were personally greeted at the front door by the owners/husband-and-wife team, Kim and Tim. Their warm welcome caught us by surprise, a pleasant one. Their home is a well kept craftsman house with modern features and modern touches. Coffee, teas, homemade treats, other snack and drink options are available to guest at all time. Breakfast was made to order and scrumptious. It was a warm sunny morning - ideal to enjoy coffee, freshly squeezed juices and of course the gourmet food made by Tim. The room is very clean and has everything you'd need for a comfortable and restful stay. Our room was quiet at night which we appreciate after a long drive from the day before. When we arrived it looks like any other house on the block. you're welcomed into the home and can take a seat at a long table with your friends. Bring wine and other beverages - water only provided it was a four course tasting menu which was current and delicious. Lamb was a little dry but the overall flavor made up for it. We decided to spend our first wedding anniversary wine tasting in Walla Walla so obviously we needed to find a nice place to stay while in town. My husband's sister and brother-in-law had recommended this B&B, since they had stayed here a couple months prior, so we decided to give it a try. We booked the Galdwall room for two nights which was located right on the main floor with it's own bathroom. We arrived at check-in on a Friday and met with Cynthia who was super nice and immediately welcomed us with a glass of wine. She had helped my husband plan to have flowers and a bottle of champagne waiting for us in our room, which was an amazing surprise! The Inn was very cute and had all of the amenities (including wifi and a/c). That night we had dinner at the Inn that was prepared by Cynthia's husband Rich. We had originally signed up for the Saturday night wine paired dinner but not enough people signed up so we tried the Friday night, four course, BYOB dinner instead. The Friday night dinner was amazing! The food was deliciously prepared that we ate every single bite. Dinner was served at one large 18-person table, which was fun to chat and interact with everyone during the two hour dinner. Each morning Rich prepared a hot breakfast at 9 am with fresh fruit, homemade muffins and a frittata which was all delicious. Rich even sat down with us on our first morning there and helped us plan out which wineries we would be visiting during out trip! We were able to walk downtown to all of the wineries on Saturday (.5 mile walk)which was very convenient. They also made us reservations for our Saturday night dinner! We had never stayed at a B&B before this and it was an amazing experience! Cynthia and Rich were excellent hosts and we will definitely be staying here whenever we return to Walla Walla. What a great gem in Walla Walla! We stayed two nights in The Merganser King Suite, a lovely clean room, with mini fridge, robes, added A/C, a sitting area and a clean nice bathroom. The hosts Cynthia and Rich are the loveliest folks! We felt extremely welcome and enjoyed chatting with them. Breakfast is AMAZING. Rich makes these wonderful frittatas in small ramekins and typically I don't eat egg yolks but devoured my breakfast both mornings. Also the second morning he remembered both of our food allergies (Me: no stone fruits, Him: no gluten) and made up our plates accordingly. Wonderful local and sustainable produce, the fruit was excellent. It's a great location, an easy 5 minute walk to downtown. Cynthia and Rich were very helpful in giving us recommendations on places to visit. We really enjoyed our stay. Additional feedback would be to update the TV in the room we stayed in. It was quite outdated and most of the stations would not fit into the screen. This is of course no deal breaker as that was not the main reason for our stay. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in Walla Walla. Cozy, friendly, delicious breakfast and close to downtown... it doesn't get any better than this! I am SOOOO not a B & B person. I can't do the dusty, lacy, too quaint for words thing. That being said? "Fat Duck Inn" is just a wonderful place to stay. The owners, Cynthia and Rich, just couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming. (Including a lovely glass of wine on their patio, snacks of just picked sweet peas and cherries...and EXCELLENT dining suggestions.) And yet - they are not hovery. Somehow, they meet every need while being unobtrusive. The house is lovely, clean, and has everything a guest might need. There's Wi-Fi (YAY!), mini-fridges, big bathrooms, and did I mention the wonderful patio area? We had an excellent weekend stay at the Fat Duck and I would highly recommend it. read more

Incredible experience overall. A true bed and breakfast. The owners, Cynthia and Rich greeted us with a glass of wine on the day of check-in and were full of amazing recommendations - wineries and food. We started each morning with a walk around the surrounding neighborhood - beautiful homes over 100 years old. Then enjoyed coffee, granola and yogurt. At 9am, Rich prepared breakfast for us. A true culinary experience both mornings. We spent our days winery hopping and our evenings sharing a bottle of wine on the back patio of The Fat Duck Inn. My only regret was not making reservations for dinner with Rich and Cynthia. If you're booking online, don't check back like the website says...pick up the phone and call ASAP. I spent the weekend at the Fat Duck Inn recently with a group of friends and we had a wonderful time. It's close to downtown, comfortable, extra clean, and feels newly remodeled. The Pintail Suite was great, and had a jacuzzi tub. The outdoor patio was a wonderful place to drink wine and chat with friends. In this world there are two types of people: those who like staying at B&Bs and those who don't. I'm definitely in the later camp. Fortunatly, this small inn isn't full of antiques, chintz, plaid wallpaper, pillows, etc. It is a renovated house, so I did still feel like I was staying at my aunt's house, but the upstairs suite was fairly private. It was also very spacious and airy with a couch and a small refrigerator, and overall quite comfortable. The kitchen downstairs included a good single cup coffee maker that is available 24 hours, which was also nice. The breakfast was quite good; the muffins were terrific. Also had a wine makers dinner. It was fun to sit with a half dozen others and enjoy some great pairings of food and wine and to learn more first hand from the winemaker on details on their business. The menu was well thought out and the food was overall well prepared and I would do this again. The owner, Rich, is a great source for recommending local wineries to visit. read more

We just returned from a 2 week trip in the Pacific Northwest. One of the highlights of our trip were the 3 days we spent in the Fat Duck Inn in Walla Walla. Cynthia, Rich, and their daughter, Mattie, made us feel so comfortable. I felt as if we were being welcomed as if we were old friends while being treated as esteemed guests. We stayed in the Pintail King Suite which is in the back of the Inn. Very quiet, clean, nicely appointed, and a spacious bedroom and bath. The breakfasts prepared by Rich were yummy, beautifully plated, and healthy. He is a chef and uses seasonal and local produce and prepares the dishes artfully. Cynthia recommended 2 restaurants during our stay and both were top notch. We hated to say goodbye to our hosts and will surely return on our next trip to this area of the country. read more

Huge recommend if you're looking for a Bed and Breakfast in Walla Walla! Charming with the best staff. The Fat Duck Inn is tucked away on a residential street close to downtown Walla Walla and accessible to all the local wineries. It is a craftsman style home that has been converted into a B&B, and feels like you walked into someone's cozy home the way the floor plan is laid out and decor. Richard, the manager, is highly attentive, super friendly and made us feel at home. He even drove my friends to the store because they did not have a car (they flew in to Walla Walla), and arranged a special wine tour with one of the wine owners in the valley which was one of the highlights of our trip to WW wineries. Chef Rich Koby who works on-site at the Fat Duck Inn hand-makes all the delicious morning pastries (the flaky croissant was my favorite) and dinners. We did the winemakers dinner one evening featuring a local winery Cardetta, and Chef Koby hit a home run pairing each course. When we travel, my wife and I always seek out quality bed and breakfast inns, and we've stayed at many all across the United States. The Fat Duck Inn ranks as one of the best ever. Cynthia and Rich are wonderful hosts. Cynthia sees to the "front of the house", while Rich is a first-class chef who prepares breakfast and also serves up spectacular Saturday night dinners with excellent wine pairings. We attended the Waters wine pairing dinner at the Fat Duck Inn with a group of nine ladies for my sisters bachelorette party. The food was absolutely fabulous- sable fish with parsnips, sweet onion, kale and goat cheese fettuccine, duck with an egg, new potatoes, and a cherry reduction and aged dry beef with blue cheese grits. Each course was amazingly paired with a carefully selected wine. It was a great dinner idea for any occasion, but especially this celebration of the bride to be! Oh man this place is good! Visited Walla Walla for a girls' weekend in late September. We were fortunate enough to snag three spots at the Fat Duck Inn's Saturday night wine pairing dinner. The meal was fantastic! We started with the most incredible butternut squash soup - it was like Fall in a spoonful. The first course was followed by a duck live pate, then a pork belly course with a poached egg and arugula salad. My favorite was the meatball course with saffron risotto. Absolutely divine. Lastly, we had a steak dish with roasted fingerling potatoes and blue cheese. Dessert was a delightful olive oil cake with ginger ice cream. All of the wines were paired beautifully, and our hostess Cynthia and our chef Rich were so fun to get to know. Cannot wait to tell my friends about this place and to get back there as soon as I can. The Fat Duck Inn's "Gastro Bistro" dinners are a great example of all that is wonderful about Walla Walla. I attended a dinner this past Friday (solo!), and found it to be a unique setting in which you'll meet both locals and visitors. Service is at a large communal table, featuring good conversation with friendly folks. The meal is BYOB, and everyone brought interesting wine selections to share. Cynthia does a great job of attending to everyone's needs, and Rich is truly one of the valley's more capable chefs. We spent a long spring weekend in Walla Walla with no more mission than to relax and get a feel for the area and enjoy the bright greens of the hills and blooms in spring. We weren't very sure where to stay but the Fat Duck looked promising on line and it turned out to be a great choice. It is walking distance to town and Whitman campus, well, if not in heels and in a nice neighborhood. We stayed in the Widgeon room which is a large suite by itself downstairs. The Inn's laundry area is accessed through the living room portion, but bedroom is totally private, but as laundry is used only by staff and only during the day, we really had no issue with that. Cynthia is very thoughtful in her running of the Inn and Rich makes breakfasts that will hold you all day...frittata, his own mix granola, boysenberry muffins to die for (and I didn't think I even liked boysenberries!) and the list goes on. They are knowledgable about the restaurants and the wine scene and are just genuinely enjoyable to chat with. Our only disappointment was we arrived on a Sunday and could not avail ourselves of the dinners Rich offers Friday and Saturday nights. I feel strongly we missed something but are glad we have an excuse to go back. We highly recommend. One area note that has nothing to do with the Inn, Walla Walla from the wine industry perspective is a sort of Thursday to Sunday operation and alot of wine and other activities are closed or not at 100% Monday through Wednesday. A group of us ate dinner here at their Friday night 4 course BYOB and were sorely disappointed. Despite talking with Cynthia about some non-meat eating members of our party and Cynthia assuring one of them that they were in for something special, the main course they were served had only extra helpings of potatoes and a vegetable, no protein at all. When asked about it Cynthia said they were not a restaurant. When reminded that this had been discussed days before so there was ample time to prepare, we were told that they were sorry if we didn't like it. Though the first and salad courses were small but tasty, the main dish and dessert left much to be desired. This was unacceptable for a dinner that cost over $70.00 per person, $55 + tax + mandatory 20% gratuity. read more
