My wife, Lily, and I finally vacationed in Walla Walla to enjoy the amazing regional wines for her birthday week. We smartly chose to stay at the GG! Karrie, the owner, innkeeper extraordinaire, chef, driver, travel agent, and woman known about town, must have spent no fewer than 40 hours planning and taking care of us. She booked us in the LV suite with fine linens, pillows, towels, robes, and bath products surrounded by tasteful antiques and a balcony looking over some of her gardens. The quiet and romantic setting created a perfect getaway for us. We enjoyed breakfast on the front porch with fresh-pressed coffee, homemade local berry scones. In four wonderful days, Karrie introduced us to each of the 6 wine regions! Just off the plan in Walla Walla, we started in the Airport District. The GG is a short walk from the Downtown District where we dined each evening in a gastronomic delight of restaurants and flavors and wines of course. Karrie packed lunches for us with private reservations of some of the finest wineries. We experienced the regional "terroirs" of the Districts in the Westside, Southside, the Rocks of Milton-Freewater AVA in Oregon, and finally on the Westside before heading back to the airport. She privately engaged us with local artists and the winemakers with private tours. This may sound busy, but the experience was relaxing and memorable. Walla Walla is a must for wine lovers, but Karrie made all the difference in creating a tailor-made holiday for us Texans! Patrick Choosing to stay at the GG netted us a highly personalized first visit to Walla Walla. Karrie went to great lengths to ensure our experience was superiorly comfortable and she homed in on our preferences and desires to elevate and enhance our "jouissance" in delectable wines and exceptional dining experiences. 4.5 stars. We stayed in the Violet Vale house, next to the Green Gables Inn building. We four stayed 2 nights, and had all meals at the house. Two in our party were senior citizens visiting from Japan. We arrived late, and thus did the self check-in, which (like everything) went smoothly. Upon arrival, waiting for us was a meal we had pre-ordered: Red Wine Braised Beef with mashed potatoes and glazed carrots, and (separately ordered from the grill menu) 2 goat cheese salads. Also waiting were a pre-ordered selection of 12 scones for breakfast. LODGING: 4.5. It was great. Very clean and spacious. The ground floor is mainly the original decor with dark wood accents and some built-in windowed corner cabinets stocked with antique-looking dishes and glasses. THE DINING ROOM TABLE WAS WONDERFUL, with large comfortable chairs; we spent a lot of time at dinner and breakfast having long conversations over good food and (for dinner) local wine. We never turned on either of the televisions. Downstairs in the beautifully redone former basement are 2 bedrooms and a bathroom, as well as a door to the small garage. It hardly seems like a basement, as the window wells for the the two bedrooms have been extended deep below the surface of the ground, and thus contain large windows that let in much light. Note that the queen bed in one of these rooms--though very comfortable--sits rather high, too high for the older folks in our group. So, each of them had a room with a king bed to themselves (one on the main floor) while my wife and I used the queen. A small con was the large foam pillows: they had almost no give below our heads. We prefer pillows that are more "relaxed". The downstairs bathroom is large, with a large shower, and very well-equipped. I never went in the main floor bathroom, but the folks who used it seemed perfectly satisfied. Wi-Fi functioned fine. Though I could fit our Prius in the small garage (barely), I chose to just park it in the driveway outside the garage. The garage door is manual. FOOD: 4.5. Kitchen is stocked with spices etc, including fried, dried shallots. - Red Wine Braised Beef with mashed potatoes and glazed carrots, and (separately ordered from the grill menu) 2 goat cheese salads. It was so-o-o good, and plenty of quantity. The one meal we ordered was enough for dinner both nights. (To go with our dinners, at a nearby store we bought local wine and ice cream.) - Scones. A dozen scones, both mixed-berry and chocolate chip. Just pop them in the oven for about 15 minutes. Outstanding with breakfast. - Coffee. Though coffee and a coffee maker are available in the Violet Vale house, I just walked next door to the main house to get already-brewed coffee each morning. In the afternoon I walked over there and made my own coffee using the French Press (following the easy instructions). SERVICE: 5.0. Alexis was very attentive to our requests, and all was ready (food, etc) when we did our self check-in. Self check-out went smoothly as well, following the simple instructions. We went to Walla Walla last minute and stayed at Green Gables Inn for one night. The new owners are fantastic- so welcoming! Our room was comfortable, quiet, the en suite bathroom was large and well appointed. There are so many personal touches throughout the house, you can tell the owners truly love this place. 5.5 stars ! I was passing through town on business . I had the best experience. I had never stayed at a B&B . I travel all the time . First , you walk in the front door and are immediately mesmerized by the detail of all the wood work . Beautiful! Then, all the amazing decor displayed throughout . The new owners absolutely raised the Bar. From the antique Louis Vuitton travel trunks, to the details on the wall paper. Very cool! I will be bringing my fiancé back . This is the ideal place for a guys or girls weekend. I felt like I was in a cottage in the south of France Or Italy somewhere. I had the opportunity to have dinner with 3 other guests and the owners . I felt like I was part of a family nite . It made me feel so good . Staying in hotels for work and eating in your bed or at a desk alone gets old . So that was so fulfilling for me . If you love "style " , " design" and "class" this is the place . First off, I'm not a fan of B&B's. The last thing I want to do is look at some RV couple over the breakfast table in the morning. We loved the Green Gables - our room was huge (500 sq feet!?!?!), with a sitting area and a couch and a fireplace and a private balcony. The setting is lovely - this part of Walla is all old houses on beautiful treelined streets. The trees were all planted in the 1830s and they are lush and overgrown. It's quite peaceful. I'm also not a fan of victorian furniture, it's too overstuffed and big, and also not a fan of the aforementioned shared breakfast, otherwise this would be a five star review. Having said that, the place was lovely, the breakfast plentiful, healthy and good, the hosts charming, the house amazing and yes, I'd stay here again. Oh, our room was dirt cheap by bay area standards. read more

The house was built in 1909 I believe but has been extensively renovated. They've kept all the charm but have incorporated modern comforts. We stayed in the smallest room available but it was very comfortable and we were quite happy with it. The owner and chef were very hospitable and helpful. The front porch was big and comfortable. Lots of big shade trees around the neighborhood Breakfast was creative, healthy and delicious. We loved our stay here and would definitely visit again. And it is a bargain for a B & B of this quality. read more

My girlfriend and I stayed here on a Thursday night for a two day wine tasting trip. It was absolutely lovely. We arrived to find a totally unexpected and wonderful room upgrade. We had a private balcony and a lovely sitting room with a fireplace. Top notch room. The bed!! Oh, the bed was so comfortable. The real down pillows were a nice touch. We had such a good sleep that we were almost late for breakfast, which was fantastic. Strawberry scones, iced tea, oj, fresh watermelon and basil salad, great coffee, complimented our breakfast selections very well. I recommend the chefs choice. She is truly a master at her craft. What a great way to start the day. The house is located near town (About a two minute drive), which was ideal for visiting the tasting rooms in the downtown area. Alexis gave us a great experience and runs a very lovely bed and breakfast. We will stay here again. But next time for a few more nights. Green Gables is an outstanding example of the classic inn "look." The staff is friendly and the accommodations are clean (if somewhat "down in the heel" in a rather quaint way) and spacious. Prior to our two night stay, one member of the couple with which we were travelling became quite ill and we were forced to cancel their stay just before we arrived at the inn. Rather than charge us for the price of the room (as we expected and would have found appropriate), the owners only charged a minimal cancellation fee. It is clear that this establishment is owned by humane and thoughtful hosts. It should be your choice when staying in Walla Walla. read more

Worth every penny paid for this amazing BnB. From Jennifer meeting us at the front door on arrival to every personal touch throughout the entire stay, we were never disappointed. The breakfast was superb. The bed was comfy and the sheets were insanely soft. The decor of the room was in keeping with a 1909 hotel, but the bathroom was spa quality with rain head and body sprays. I hosted a bridal shower in their courtyard and it was beautiful. Alexia had prepared signage along with a history of the inn for the guests to review. We had a mimosa bar set up and a quiche brunch prepared by Andi. The tables were set with nice linens and china service. The meal was just excellent and the raspberry cheesecake dessert is what everyone wants! The ladies accommodated last minute guests and were quick to adjust with pleasure! My husband and I enjoyed our stay here. It is very quiet. The grounds are lovely. It's in a beautiful neighborhood with lots of trees, near Whitman College. The breakfast was tasty. They were able to accommodate my many food allergies. I also like that they give you several options for the main course. My only complaint was that I was too warm at night. The building has central air, so you can't adjust the temperature in your own room. They give you ideas for how to adjust the temperature to your liking (they provide a floor fan, or you can call them and they can adjust the temp). There were also too many blankets on the bed, considering it's summer time. It's around 90 degrees during the summer. So maybe keeping the AC on higher during the night, especially on hot summer nights, and taking off some of the covers would help. Otherwise, everything about our stay was great. read more

My review is not based upon staying at the house, but rather hosting events and attending dinners there. The space is beautiful, a large turn of the century home located next to Whitman College in a gorgeous, tree-lined old neighborhood. The space has seen lots of upgrades by the current owner over the past few years including a new kitchen and new bathrooms for the rooms. The in-house Chef, Andi, is really talented. I have been blow away by her meals. While they only have 4 or 5 rooms, I would suggest looking into meal options at the Inn, especially on busy weekends in Walla Walla. You will not be disappointed. I am one of those horrible yelpers who only write reviews if something is bad. Until now! Green Gables was MAGNIFICENT. We stayed here for our anniversary this Fall and it was the most fabulous house. Beautiful inside and out. Tons of character and you feel somehow like you belong to the house the instant you enter. We stayed in Idlewild Room and it was great. The sheets were so soft and amazing I asked them where I could buy some. The room is so quaint and charming--the Victorian appointments were a treat to enjoy. The room was crisp and cool with great temperature control. The bathroom was magnificent with a 5 jetted shower that invigorates and makes you feel squeaky clean. From the cute lamps down to the great soap all the thought goes into how to make this feel like a guest's own home--but better. The staff is super friendly and it is a short walk to all the action. Walla Walla is a destination place for us because it's a quaint town with a relaxed pace and we always look forward to an overnight stay in a similar atmosphere. The Green Gables Inn absolutely exceeded our expectations and is worth the trip just to stay there. The Inn is beautifully decorated, the rooms are equipped with high quality, comfortable adornments, and the breakfasts are out of this world delicious! Alexis (the Inn Keeper) and Kate were both lovely hosts and it was such a treat to relax and enjoy what they do best, as they made us feel welcome in that beautiful old home. *Barnaby, the outdoor Inn cat was an added bonus for us. He is respectful if you're not a cat lover but if you are, then you'll fall head over heels in love with him! I sure did!!! read more

What a great place to stay! We booked the Idlewild room and it was just perfect! The place is beautifully decorated and really clean. Our bed was super comfy and we slept well. In the morning you are spoiled with a delicious breakfast including freshly baked scones!! The people who work there are so incredibly nice and helpful. I think this is one of the best bed and breakfast places we've ever stayed!! read more
