Long story short....I came in 1 day before my appointment to show Fatima the style I wanted. She said yes she could do it. Her and 1 of her associates, Nancy, kept asking me to show them the picture again, talking to each other in, what sounded like to me, a mixture of English and their language....which should've been a red flag, indicating they wasn't 100% sure if they could pull it off or not. What I ended up with looked NOTHING like the picture PLUS the cornrows and box braids were so tight, I couldn't sleep all weekend and had to take them out after only 2 days! Fatima refused to give me even a partial refund so now I have no choice but to take her to small claims court and ask for a FULL refund in addition to any court fees I'll incur. ***The 1st picture below is what I asked them to do ***The 2nd picture below is what I actually ended up with! If they could not have given me the style I wanted for WHATEVER reason, they should have been honest up front and told me no. I would've simply chose an easier style. Ladies, if you want to keep your edges and not suffer from any damage or hair loss, please research before making a decision on where to get your braids done. Some shops actually care about your real hair, they'll use bigger amounts of hair to support the braid and they won't pull so tight....they'll evaluate at your hair and give their professional opinion on whether or not it's in a condition to withstand the kind of braids you're requesting OR if they're capable of duplicating the style if you show them a picture beforehand. I truly hope me sharing my experience help you in making the right decision. Braids aren't the best for our hair enough as it is so when we do choose to get them, we have to be cautious! Awesome experience! I was welcomed at the door and invited in to take a seat. I shared my personal hair concerns and my concerns were validated and communicated to the two braiders assigned to me who quickly went to work ensuring that my needs were met along the way. I made a same day appointment here and thought it was nice to be able to be accommodated on such short notice. When I called, the woman who answered kind of lackadaisically took my name with the appointment time, as if she weren't actually writing it down and quoted me a price. Once I arrived, I mentioned I had an appointment and was asked by a stylist near the door what I wanted to have done, which further suggested they don't really set appointments, but tend to have enough stylists to take walk ins throughout the day. Within 5 minutes of arriving, someone started working on my hair, so the faux appointment wasn't a problem at all. Before starting, the stylist made sure to let me know the price, which matched what I was told on the phone when I first called. This is where my experience began to go downhill. My hair is natural (no relaxer) and therefore needs to be detangled differently than relaxed hair. It's by no means, unmanageable, but cannot be combed with a fine tooth comb, which is actually similar to many people's hair, even if it's relaxed. My stylist roughly yanked at my hair with a fine tooth comb 2 or 3 times before switching to a more appropriate wide tooth comb. Even after switching, she attempted to comb-detangle my hair starting at the root, which tends to create more knots and tangles than it removes. After yanking at my hair and getting the comb stuck 3-4 times, I reached up to cover my hair with my hand, at which point she handed me the comb and asked me to comb it myself and walked away. It took me about 5-8 min to thoroughly detangle my hair with the comb, by simply starting at the ends and working my way to the roots. After 10 min or so of me finishing, she finally came back and I showed her a picture of the style I wanted. She began working and about halfway through, another stylist joined. Overall, it took about 2 hours or so for 2 people to complete a crochet install on my hair, which was nice. The fear of my stylist yanking my hair out of my head and leaving bald was not so nice... My final style was nothing like the picture I originally provided. I removed a large portion of the hair the same night to make it less full and then I ended up taking it down and redoing the crochet install myself 7 days later. read more

I've been getting in my hair braided for over year with Fatima's .Ive purchased earrings and 3 purses. a few weeks ago I went to get a edge up -- and was told that no one want to do my edge up-- I sat for 1 hour hoping to be next ...other customers came in after me and because they were requesting full head of braids -- no one was willing to take me l The owner asked a worker "Walamina!" To please don't look past me and to follow the rules because I should have been next 40 minutes prior. I have been going to Fatima's shop for a few years because no appointment is required. Each time I go I felt unwelcomed, as the braiders are unfriendly and appear to be talking negatively about me or my daughter in their native language. I began to feel as if I was experiencing colorism. I addressed my concern with the shop owner and was told if I didn't feel comfortable there to leave. I hate my feedins... when I got to the shop they acted like they really didn't want to do my hair. I wanted it done so I let her braid it. It wasn't long like I asked for and then they didn't even have foam wrap or sprits like really what salon doesn't have the products for the finishing style. So I had to go home and doctor up my braids... then they had kids running around with food everywhere. I'm good on this shop and my ends was coming a loose as soon as I left... really and they over charged me for this mess. I'm don't recommend this braiding shop to anyone. I was quoted a price on the phone for kinky twists and when I arrived the price miraculously went up by $30. I told them I was expecting $150 and I'm not prepared to pay more. They decided to point out that there was a Chase Bank next door and I could get more money. I told them I wanted the $150 style. After braiding, they tried to charge me $180. After arguing with me for about 5 minutes, they got $150 and I had no desire to give them a tip. Rude and attitudinal ladies spoke in their native tongue the entire time the braided my hair. I was very impressed that three ladies were able to do my complete head and help me out the door in two and one half hour. I was observed three other customers to come in while getting my hair braided that were also giving different prices on the phone and the price went from $180 on the phone to $220 when they arrived.. So far so good. They started on time and with 3 braider's. It's going on 3 weeks with my braids and they still look as fresh as day one. I typically loose some front braids after a day or two, but all have remained intact. I don't know what they did, but they did a fantastic job. EVERYONE asks me where I got my Senegalese twists done. I am back in Chicago now, so they are a bit disappointed by my answer, Irving, TX. Ladies, this is a great place if you are seeking quick and exceptional service with no haggling or mis-communications of prices. I was asked almost every half hour if I was doing okay or needed anything. From start to finish, I was in the chair for about 4.5 hours with 3 people constantly working on my hair. Well-deserving 5 stars! Upon entering Fatima's I was unsure of what hair color blend I wanted to use for my nubian twists and Fatima stopped what she was doing and braided the 2 different blends on my finger so I could see which blend I'd like the best. After I chose the red and brown blend they sat me in the chair at noon and started on my hair. There was wonderful conversation, in their native language, but I never felt threatened or uncomfortable at all. It was pretty busy so one of the 2 girls working on my head had to go help a walk-in. Then Fatima offered me some of the best rice I have ever had in my life. There was lamb and veggies in it. It was delicious. The atmosphere was quite friendly and my overall experience was great! I will definitely be going back to Fatima's. They told me to start my dreads it will only cost 60$. That price cannot be beat anywhere in the metroplex. I recommend Fatima's Salon. I got out the chair at 5:00 and was overly pleased with my nubian twists! Great job Fatima's crew! read more

I visited this shop a few years ago and remembered that they provided me with three braiders and they had did an ok job so I recently revisited them last week. Like before I had three braiders (different ones from before) and my total service time for Nubian Twist was 2.5 hours. However, the quality is crap. On day 2 I lost my first twist. Thursday will be 2 weeks since I got my hair done and to date I've lost 8 twist. My natural hair touches my back so there's no good reason or explanation for braids falling out. From looking at the quality of the twist I can tell that the lady who was in the back was not experienced with installing Nubian twist. I have received compliments from people saying, "your hair is beautiful" and from a distance it is. But I've had better. One of the ladies had her minor children there at work with her so she had to stop servicing a client to tend to her children. The pro to this shop is the service time. However, I will not revisit this shop. Two stars because they did Nubian twist as requested and because the service time was exceptional. I only wish that the quality was better. Next time I'll try Sister Sister in Arlington I've heard good things about them. read more

Fatima's hair braiding and weaves should also be called Fatima's hair braiding, weaves, and babies The reason why I renamed the salon is because three of the employees brought their children to work today, all under the age of 9 months. I am not against women bringing their children to work, but when it interferes with productivity, that is a different story. My stylist/braiders did not get the memo to bring their children to work today so they were able to focus on my hair and taking personal phone calls. I do feel sorry for the three women who got their hair braided by the women who brought their children to work as it took longer than customary to get their hair braided. When I called to inquiry about Seneglese twist I was told it would take 4 hours. The 4 hour time frame depends on how busy they are. Any who, my experience with getting my hair braided was intresting. My hair braiders were rough. When the hair got tangled, they pulled the hair without any consideration to me. I played tug of war and I was the rope! My hair was completed in 4 hours with one additional hour to cut and steam the braids. My hair is okay, I think it is too long but I will cut it. Fatima is also a tad bit expensive for Seneglese twist-$220 to be exact. What they don't tell you is, if you want shorert twist the price is $200 and $220 for longer twist, a difference of 20 smackeroos. I wasn't given that option. If you go anywhere else, Seneglese twist are $180 for short twist and $200 for long twist. I think Fatima also includes a tip in her price which is smart business on her part. I got my hair braided around the same time last year at someone's home. Although I had the tedious task of separating the hair and handing it to my stylist/braider, that experience was a lot more pleasant, more professional. If you plan to visit Fatima's Salon Braids and Weaves [and Babies], ask your hair stylist/braider if she brought her baby to work with her, inform her if you want long or short twist ( a difference of $20 smackeroos), and bring your head phones with you because when the hens cackle, they cackle with intensity, with only short breaks in between. Fyi-If your hair stylist is hunger, she will eat while braiding your hair, care for her child in the midst of braiding your hair, answer her phone, and laugh/talk extremely loud. These ladies can also be very disrespectful. I hope this review helps! read more

They braided my edges into the box braids.And do not listen when you do not want your braids tight they braid tighter. Also after the box braids were done I was left with pain for WEEKS. A family member had told one of the stylists that can I do not handle pain well. So the stylist braided tighter. I do not advise you to go this salon. read more

I will never go back. I've been going to Fatima's for about a year since I moved to Texas. They are quick and I allowed that to distract me from the low quality and non existent customer service. Today I went in for a 2 o'clock appointment for kinky twists. I was greeted 10 minutes after entering the salon. One of the ladies started my hair about 20 minutes later. She talked on the phone the entire time while doing my hair. The problem... she burned my next with the boiling water. As she dipped my braids into the boiling water her phone rang AND she answered it. I screamed and pulled my head forward. She never got off of the phone or acknowledged what happened. They also charged me the same price as if they used the hair they had when I purchased my own hair. It was absolute chaos in that salon. One of the raider had her baby there who screamed half of the time I was there. It's embarrassing that this is a business. read more

I hate to leave negative reviews, but this one is warranted. Unless you are getting micros/individual braids, there is no need to come here. I've visited this salon 3 times to have my hair done in a halo. Pretty simple to do. Should take 30 minutes or less to do. But each time I find myself in the shop for 3 hours. One reason is because they are always late getting to the shop. Second is because nobody knows how to do the style I'm looking for. Mind you, when I call to make my appointment, I always tell them the style and confirm someone will be in at that time that can do the style I'm looking for. The answer is always yes. Then when someone finally come in over 1 Hour late, it's like they have an attitude. Really$&@??? I am soooooo over going to this shop. I will never patronize this place again and I will NOT refer anyone else there. Terrible service, bad customer service and was not friendly. Not sure if it has anything to do with their culture, but it's totally Unacceptable here. I hope the owner read this message and Work on skilling up her people. I will NEVER go back to this place again. The lack of professionalism speaks volumes. I went into this place because I was driving by and got a quote to dread my hair. So I was quoted $80. I told the lady that I needed to go home and drop my dog off and I would be right back. So I did but I also changed my clothes and went back. When I walked through the door. The stylist laughed and started speaking her native language and the conversation continued. I felt very uncomfortable. And as I sat there listening to her pulling my hair out with her fine tooth comb, I sent my husband a few text telling him how uncomfortable I was and maybe she was reading over my shoulder and got offended. She did not try to talk to me or engage in type of dialog like a normal hair stylist. She had an attitude when she was asking me how I wanted my dreads to lay in the front. Then when I couldn't take it anymore, I asked her to stop and I asked how much I owed her for what she had done that far which was about 10-12 dreads. And she got mad and started talking to the lady behind her in their language. And she said i owed her 20 bucks. At that point I just wanted to leave. So they offered to wash my hair and she did (with water ONLY). Then I walked up to the front counter to pay. I gave the stylist the 20 and said thank you and she said bye with an attitude as I was leaving. It is stereotypical to think that African women don't like black women so I will continue to conduct myself as a lady and say they could benefit in a class on customer relations. That is the 3rd foreign owned braid shop that I have been to one in denver (nice but ate chicken while doing my hair), one in Duncanville (left me with two bald spots), and this one. And I will never go to another one again because it is my experience that they are rude, unprofessional, and unwelcoming. I had high hopes for this salon after reaching reviews. I called the day before to get pricing and schedule an appointment to get havana twists. I purchased and brought my own hair, as requested, and was assurred 3 ladies would be working on my hair to finish in 3-3.5 hours. I arrived for my appointment and was met with a very attitudinal woman who asked me the price I had been quoted before she said hello. She began blow drying my hair, I'm natural, and I asked if other ladies would be joining her as I had been told. I got so much attitude back and a "maybe" answer. I told her I would need to know before starting because I had to be at work. After some back and forth, a second braider joined her. Havana twists are large twists and I showed her the picture as well as explained that I wanted them larger. She did a tester and I asked that they be larger than the small twist and showed her and the other braider the picture once again, more grumbling and guess what, the twists are no where near the size I wanted them to be. She asked me what length and I told her shoulder length, I didnt want them very long. Guess how long they are, to the middle of my back. The only positive was the speed, they finished in 3 hours, and the quality of the twists is great. They look nice, it just isnt what I wanted. Unfortunately my braider then had the audacity to tell me I would need to pay more the next time I came in because of the length, yep, the length that is WAY longer than I wanted. I politely told her I would NOT be coming back. So not only are my twists not the size I wanted, they are also not the length I wanted. And let me not forget to mention there were two ladies that brought their toddlers to work with them, and these two poor children proceeded to fuss and cry and scream the ENTIRE time. I'm not sure if I just came on a bad day or what, but I will absolutely NOT be returning neither will any of my friends who also twist or braid their hair on a regular basis. I had waist length box braids done here spring of 2015. The women were friendly and got the job done quickly. The finished result was gorgeous and I got tons of compliments. However, I can't give the experience more 3 stars because it was soooo painful, the braids were done incredibly tight. I'm naturally tender headed but I was in excruciating pain for the last half of my session and couldn't sleep for at least two days after the fact. I complained while my hair was being braided and the main braider said she wouldn't do them as tight but I doubt she did anything differently. I gave benefit of the doubt that maybe my scalp was extra sensitive since I hadn't had braids in a long time but that was me being naive. The hair around my edges, especially the front, is finer and more fragile and I definitely had noticeable breakage when removing the braids. My salon stylist also commented on the breakage later on. I have natural hair and know how to take care of my hair while in these styles so maintenance wasn't the issue. I took a year to rest my hair from braids/extensions after that because I was terrified of traction alopecia. My hairline has filled back in during that time (thank God!), edges are nothin to play with. I have a hard time with people who consider themselves hair stylists who aren't doing more to prevent breakage. It's 2016 and it's unacceptable, there's too much hair knowledge out there for this, no matter how flawless the braids look. Ah well, at least I know better now and escaped without permanent damage. Before getting my hair braided I called and asked the lady how much the braids were and she said they started at $150. When I got to the shop and told her the length I wanted she said $180. She ended up doing the braids smaller and longer than what I wanted. However towards the end of my braids she said $200 including the hair. This place is awesome! I've never had any problems with them doing my hair! I've been going to Mona (owner) for about 3 years before she got her own shop and since then it's been a strong 10 years! They've always been consistent and I see the same faces every time I go on. I'm always welcomed with a warm smile and handled with professionalism and care while I'm there. I see the complaints about them speaking in their native tongue but it's America. The melting pot of the world. If that's a problem then you might as well live under a rock. Good quality comes at a good price and since I ALWAYS get great service I will NOT take my business elsewhere. I went in yesterday for a 5:00 appointment for box braids. I called ahead to make this appointment and was quoted a price of 150 and up. I also asked specifically for box braids. When I arrived I was explaining to the lady that I wanted it long and they supplied the hair so I was told it was 200.00. They only had one person doing my hair the majority of the time instead of 2 or 3 like before which I found strange because someone who arrived after me had 2 Braider's doing her hair. I took 4 hours and when I was done I was so tired that I paid and left. Halfway home I looked in the mirror and she did twists not box braids!!! Plus I requested that my edges be left out because I had some breakage from when it was braided before, they braided my edges anyway. After I arrived home to inspect my hair the twists are low quality work. There uneven, different lengths and sizes. Again one person was doing my hair the majority of the time. My daughter could have done a better job! I don't even want to go back to get the correct style done because they did such a horrible job on my hair.
