While in Florence, we took a day trip across Tuscany and stopped at this beautiful winery for lunch. They served us multiple courses, give us several bottles of 4 different wines, and let us explore the beautiful Tuscan hills. The food was good, but the stand outs were the wine and olive oil. They were delicious. The only thing that I wish would have been different is that we were supposed to have lunch outside. My husband and two other couples had lunch at Fattoria Poggio Alloro. Our tour guide, Luca recommended this place to me after I asked about a place to eat out in the country side with views and good food and wine. They had a Menu del giorno della fattoria, a menu of the day. It consisted of antipasti (bruschetta with perfectly ripe tomatoes and wonderful olive oil, and what I believe was farro with tomatoes and other vegetables), farm ham, salami, and local cheeses, a garden salad, pasta with a Chianina beef sauce, dessert (cantucci), coffee, water, wine, and vin santo. They brought out more bottles of red and white wine during our meal. We were honored to be introduced to the proprietor of the place. He's 90 years old and still working! Luca surprised my husband and me with a bottle of champagne to toast our 36th anniversary and a HUGE glass to have a sip and toast. What a treat! The grounds are beautiful with fantastic scenery all around, with rolling hill and vineyards, especially with San Gimignano in the distance. We sat outside under umbrellas and it was a beautiful day. Reservations are a must! The next time we are in the area, we'll be back for another great lunch. read more

It was supposed to be a Tuscan Farm Lunch in the midst of the beautiful hills of Tuscany. That's what they promote on their website. Instead, they put us in a room with no windows. It was no different than having lunch in any windowless room anywhere back at home. What was even the purpose of traveling there to have lunch? Our tour group arrived for dinner after a long day of touring and were quite hungry. Luckily, this place had plenty of food and the staff (I believe it it family owned) kept offering us seconds of the dishes. We enjoyed antipasti, pasta, beef with peas, and dessert. It's not necessarily five-star cuisine but everything was tasty and plentiful. Several of our tour group purchased their grappa and limoncello as souvenirs. Fattoria Poggio Alloro is an agriturismo nestled in the picturesque hills of Tuscany overlooking the medieval town of San Gimignano. Like many of the other reviews you'll find on this page, I visited Fattoria Poggio Alloro as part of a lunch stop during an organized excursion out of Florence, but after my experience I will definitely be back to stay as a guest for a few days the next time I plan a trip in this part of Italy. From the moment my group walked in I was wowed. The service was incredible. The staff went above and beyond in making us feel welcome and shower us in hospitality and the food and views simply couldn't be beat. Our lunch consisted of a wine tasting of 3 different in-house made wines and a dessert liquor, bruschetta, pasta with a beef ragu sauce, thinly slice pork loin with roasted potatoes, and biscotti. It was a simple meal but those can sometimes be the best as was the case on my visit. Everything was so delicious and to top it off, the staff came around after every course to offer extra servings. Needless to say, I was so stuffed after lunch I ended up skipping my dinner reservation that night. You have to make sure before you leave to stop for a photo op with their gorgeous scenic backdrop. On a clear day you'll be able to clearly see the medieval towers rising to the sky in nearby San Gimignano. They also have a small gift shop where you can purchase their wines, pastas, olive oil, and much more to bring back with you. Staying at Fattoria Poggio Alloro was like stepping into a fairytale. My husband and I spent a night here on our honeymoon after visiting San Gimignano, and it exceeded my already sky-high expectations. From the moment we got out of our car, we fell in love! The view over the Tuscan hills is jaw-dropping, and I could spend weeks just sitting on the patio taking it all in. As soon as we arrived, we were offered complimentary glasses of their own wine, which we enjoyed on their patio while petting their very friendly dogs. Our room was fantastic--rustic in style, yet very clean and comfortable. It was decorated tastefully and remained nice and cool despite the heat outside. We took a swim in their pool, which was placed in the perfect spot overlooking the Tuscan hills, and I can honestly say I've never enjoyed a more beautiful view while swimming. We ended up having dinner at the farm as well, which was a splurge but so worth it. We had a really decadent 5-course meal, and after each course, they would bring out a big tray with more for second and third helpings. The food was all delicious and exceedingly fresh, considering they use mostly products produced on their own farm. And of course, there was lots and lots of their great wine. We ate a huge amount and were stuffed beyond belief. We sat inside because there was rain in the forecast, but otherwise, dinner is held in communal tables in a beautiful little outdoor space with a great view. Even if you're staying at another agriturismo, I would make it a point to come here for dinner, as that's what the other guests that night did, and everyone left very happy. The next morning, we opted for a wine tour, which was great. Our tour guide was friendly and informative, and we had a new appreciation for this beautiful farm we had just spent the night at. Of note, this is a very popular farm. There are many tour groups and individual groups that stop here for lunch and wine tastings, which some may find off-putting. The farm seemed constantly busy with tourists until around 7 or 8PM, but we were the only ones who stayed overnight. If you want your own private slice of heaven, this might not be it, but we didn't really mind. On check-out, they gifted us a bag of pasta made with their own spelt. I can't wait to come back!! We had a party of 12 to celebrate a birthday and 50th anniversary. They treated us fabulously from the moment we arrived with a glass of sparkling wine to the finishing bit of limoncello. Their home made foods were excellent and plentiful and their cellar wines outstanding and some of our favorites in Italy. The reviews we saw on You Tube did not do this place justice. With a beautiful property and extended view of Gimignano it was a magical experience for the entire family. The service was spot on and attentive to any needs. The tour was quick and informative and gave you some of the BEST views of Tuscany and San Gimignano. This family owned farm is beautiful, well taken care of and the owners take great pride in their food and service. Make a reservation in advance for tours and even lunch. The lunch is HUGE post wine tasting so prepare for eating for a few hours. Or you can add on salami and ham to your wine tasting if you're looking for something lighter. We stopped here on a tour as a part of a Tuscany tour. It was excellent! The farmhouse has a beautiful view of the country side. We tried four different wines, all of which you can buy. HA HA seriously, there isnt really a better word than that. it was truly awesome. you sit "family style" at a long picnic table and each party gets their own bottle of red and white wine and rolls. .....wait I should start off by saying that everything I mention you can have more of, seconds are offered and if you have an extra stomach somehow you could get thirds. and more wine. and more water. and more more more.. ok so you get 2 starters, a firsti (pasta dish), a secondi, (meat dish) ours was roasted rabbit and roasted chicken WHICH WAS AMAZING! it's all from their own farm. they end it with a cappuccino, mousse and biscotti. From start to finish, the service, the food, the view, the atmosphere, all of it.. top notch and so enjoyable. it was the best $39pp EUR we spent in Tuscany! They do offer a vegetarian option that I tried a taste of and it was delicious too. I certainly could've eaten that and been completely satisfied too. If Im remembering correctly, over 90% of what they use is from their own sustainable farm and garden. which is also- a m a z i n g- you must make reservations! and remember US folks, there is no salad dressing in Italy. its oil and vinegar :) Thank you for making our honeymoon even more special! The 1/2 day wine tour was wonderful. The view from the vineyard is breath taking, a great way to see Tuscany. The family owned business does more than just wine. They raise cattle, produce olive oil, and vegetables. All their products are amazing, we purchased several items to bring back home (wine, olive oil, and balsamic vinaigrette). Came here last month for a wine tasting and lunch tour during one of my trips to Italy. We enjoyed bread with organic olive oil, cheese and meat platter, pasta with meat sauce, and 4 different wines (2 reds, a white, and dessert wine). Everything was homemade from their winery and farm!! The food and wine were delicious and the views from lunch were amazing! They were very generous with the food and kept coming back to offer more. Our "All Day Tuscany Tour" stopped here for a quick farm tour, and lunch with wine, and we couldn't have been more pleased. Located just outside San Gimignano we enjoyed the fabulous views of vineyard land and the famous San Gimignano sky scrapers off in the distance. As I mentioned, a farm tour was up first. Not a particularly long tour, but we did see some of their wine making equipment as well as get to visit their dairy cows and feed them. **Note, when returning in to the states, Immigration and Customs will ask you if you've visited any livestock on your trip, so drinking extra here to forget you saw cows is in your best interest ;) I made the mistake earlier in my trip of eating a grape off a random vine and almost cracking my tooth, so I didn't "borrow" any grapes here, and instead set my sights on olives. Again, a huge mistake, do not eat small olives off of trees, as they are bitter and disgusting lol. After the tour we were shown to our family style table and got down to eat. Our 4 course lunch was paired with 4 wines, a white, a chianti, a merlot and a dessert wine. We started off with bread with olive oil, and then out came the food. Again, this was an included tour lunch, so I wasn't expecting anything terribly fancy, but the wine had a great effect and everything tasted delicious. I'll also note the service was great, and they came around with seconds for everything, so I got my fill. Penne bolognese was first, followed by a meat and cheese course, and then a salad, finished up by almond biscotti cookies to be dipped in the dessert wine. Even if you're not on a tour that brings you here, I'd highly recommend. Great people, with a great atmosphere! read more

The prettiest views of Tuscany while you sip on excellent wine and pretty good food. The steamed veggies are yummy and the cheeses are fabulous. Make sure you dip the biscotto into the dessert wine like a true Tuscan! The restaurant uses ingredients pretty much only from the farm (all organic!), and the staff takes you on a tour of the vineyard to show you the grapes, olive trees, and award winning cows. Wow! The views of San Gimignano from the farm are breath taking!! We stopped by this organic farm on our Walkabout Florence Best of Tuscany tour. The farm provided a tour of their vineyards, olive groves, and dairy farm followed by a light lunch. Food was okay but this place is is worth a trip just for the views. The food is amazing. 5 different Tuscan starters, a pasta dish, a meat dish, a dessert, and cantuccini with coffee to finish. All for 30 euros. You won't find as tasty or as good value dinner anywhere else in the area. With an amazing view. 90% of ingredients come from the farm itself. Dining is casual, you sit in shared tables, just so that you are aware. Bookings essential. Saturday night is florentine steak night, which supposedly is amazing. We have had a trip planned to Villa Iris in Tuscany for more than a year and this place was at the top of our list to try based on reviews, personal recommendations and close proximity to the Villa. We were a little early for check in at the Villa, so went straight here from the train. They were closed! Family member, Sarah, invited us in anyway and treated us better than anyone in Italy (and we have been treated very well). We spent two hours in the closed restaurant and absolutely fell in love with this place! Sarah's cousin Lorenzo came in and was hilarious. We have already been back a second time and we were treated like VIPs. We have one more reservation for Friday night before we leave and we are still trying to figure out if Sarah or Lorenzo is #1 ha ha!! This is the #1 family and restaurant in the region!!! read more

This place has rave reviews on Tripadvisor. You pay 30 EUR for a multicourse meal with all you can drink wines (red, white) and sparkling water. There was a ton of food and we spent a good 1.5 hours there eating. The tables are long and communal so you sit next to strangers. We got seated next to a Middle Eastern couple and an Italian couple so not much English was spoken, unfortunately. Even after they bring each dish out, they still ask you if you want more. The quality and value were very good and I would definitely recommend eating here if you get a chance. There's no other restaurant like it. read more
