Decided to stop in at lunchtime on Friday for a quick bite. I sat at the bar. This place looks like the typical bar/ taphouse. The bartender was friendly. However, there was conflicting music playing from the kitchen area compared to the dining area. Sounded like rock and roll in the front, and battle rap in the back. Total headache listening to both. Typical taproom type atmosphere, nothing special. The beer selection however was excellent. Approximately 38 beers on tap with something for everyone. Two were very rare finds (Bourbon County Stout varieties). Love the ability to serve yourself and sample as much or as little as you want. Food was also very good. Stopped in for lunch on a weekend day... tried a few items. Calamari was a little too fishy tasting and very thin and fried almost to a crisp. Their grilled shrimp is done on a flattop with Old Bay and it's decent, not plated in a very appetizing way, but tasted well. The cocktail sauce that came with it had no horseradish in it and if it did, definitely wasn't noticeable; in fact, I had to add a bunch of tobacco to it to spike it up. Their shrimp poboy was decent, lots of shrimp and the sauce tasted nice. Their seafood pizzas looked and tasted pretty good too. Service was just OK, nothing special. Really disappointing. Been coming here for years and it has steadily gone down hill. It's an environment that you can get a beer card. Get the card and go to the beer wall. Half of the taps are either out of order, not assigned a beer, or the tap is empty. The non standard tapped beers are empty. You really need to fix that. Can't be a tap house if all you have is what should be behind the bar normally. Ordered the. Catfish basket. $20. Catfish and a side. Came out. One piece of catfish. There was a group of about 50 of us who came here for drinks and a late night snack after we left a film premiere. Dee and the other staff took good care of us. Because we arrived after 9pm, the menu was limited to fried food only. We ordered an assortment of chicken wings, chicken tenders, loaded fries, and other fried food on the menu. It's not often I come across a place with a novel idea anymore but I absolutely LOVE the idea Fatty's uses for its beer...but more on that in a minute. I was down in the area for some training for work and a Urdu and I decided to give Fatty's a try (after looking at Yelp). We didn't have huge expectations, but we left after tasting some great beers and eating some delicious seafood. We started with some wings, crab cake balls and my buddy also got some gumbo. The wings were ok and we liked the crab cake balls, but I think my buddy was overwhelmed with how big the serving of gumbo was (it was his entree). I ordered the steam pot and I should've listened to the waitress and shared, but I was on a mission. After eating 1 Ib Snow Crab Legs, 1 Ib Shrimp, 1 Ib clams, Sliced Sausage, Red Potatoes, Corn, cole slaw and old bay fries (ok, I was a failure and unable to finish the fries and slaw) I could barely get up. Back to the beer...they give you an activation card for the table. You take the card over to the taps and you can choose your own beer and pay for what you pour. Want a one once sip to try it out you can do so. For someone who like flights, this is a great way to know you'll love each of the beers you drink. I had two flights and eight different 5oz beers. You can also pour singles if you'd like. Here's the down side...I feel like I'm doing someone else's job when getting my own beer. I still think this is a really cool and novel idea, but I'm not getting a discount for doing someone else's job...maybe the bar bill should be separate from the food. I had a great time here and loved the food (though I are WAY too much) and our server was pretty friendly and helpful. I'll be the first to admit ... I wasn't expecting Fatty's to be so good. Nor was I expecting to leave feeling like a Fatty. I also wasn't expecting the portions to be so big. I got the crab cake balls to myself as an appetizer, followed by the newly added gumbo as my main. The crab cake balls come 4 to an order and there somewhere in size between a golf ball and a baseball. They also come with the hand cut old bay fries. This could have served as an entree on its own. I was full even before the gumbo arrived. The gumbo must have had 10 shrimp and 2 sausage, not to mention about a 1/4 lb of chicken. It was absolutely delicious. And I've eaten a lot of gumbo, including down in New Orleans. We started with the wings. The lemon pepper sucked but the BBQ were delicious. My coworkers got the burger and steam pot, respectively. My fellow Yelpers: the steam pots are meant to be shared. Not for individual consumption. But my one co-worker pulled out all stops and crushed it solo. Though he asked for a wheelchair upon finishing. I thought I was in an episode of Man vs Food. I have a love-hate relationship with their beer system. I love that you can choose a sampler. I hate that I had to get it myself. And I can only imagine the number of times customers forget their activation cards and let other customers rack up a tab on a bill that isn't theirs. I was very impressed with the food and service that I received at Fatty's Tap House. I am visiting family the area and I wanted seafood. The restaurant was spacious and the food came out in a descent amount of time. Out waitress Christina, was patient and friendly. I came to dine with my two great aunts and my friend. I am appreciative that we were seated early. Christina delighted us with the twenty percent off drink specials. I was won over by the calamari that we ordered as an appetizer. It was prepared perfectly and it was delicious. It's my birthday weekend so I went all out and ordered the seafood boil it was overly pricey in my opinion because it's half the price when I order it in Charlotte. Nevertheless the portion was humongous and the Classic flavor was bold without being over spicy. The bartender does an amazing job with the drinks. The bathrooms were cute and clean! I've been here so many times for socializing to going away parties for work. The food are pretty good and services are standard. I haven't gotten any bad services yet, mainly because we come in big groups. I haven't had any beer on tap so I can't really comment on it. The ceiling tiles are dirty and missing. The food was okay, but came out slow. We had the crab dip for an appetizer, and it was good. The she crab soup wasn't fresh a d didn't seem homemade. I got the crab legs, but they were cold. I made the waiter aware, and she fixed the problem. The shrimp weren't cleaned and I had to clean them myself. From the time we placed our order it took and hour to get our main. Most people did not want to use the beer tap, and I took that as I shouldn't either. We ordered calamari as a starter. It was awful. It came out warm, not hot. They had it sitting in that sauce you dip lumpia in, and served it with cold cocktail sauce. We asked for marinara, and that came straight out of the fridge as well. So dipping cold calamari in colder sauce, was not the best. I ordered BBQ sliders with old bay fries. We've been a few times since they opened and it's been hit or miss depending on what we ordered. We won't be back. The positives are the ahi tuna was outstanding, the hush puppies are great and the staff is friendly. The rest - I ordered crab cakes and ate about 1/3 of one. They were too mushy and salty and tasted like more filler than crab. My husband ordered the clam chowder and it came out almost lukewarm. They were nice and heated it up for us which I appreciated. The rest of our meals were pretty average at best and we both felt somewhat nauseous when we returned home. Sadly fast food would have been a better option on this night. read more

Had a great meal here with a group to celebrate birthdays. I had one of the specials -the Cajun shrimp over Mac and cheese. I love a good Mac and cheese. The shrimp were a really nice size. Great flavor and done just right. The Mac and cheese was good, but I like mine a bit creamier. People at my table order 3 different seafood pots. There is so much food in them some shared between two people. Everyone loved there entrees. Prices were reasonable for the portions. Taphouse offers a pour your own tap. The service here sucks! We sat at a dirty table and asked our greeter to wipe down the table-didn't happen. We then asked the waitress to wipe down the table-nothing.
