I only made the appointment because my favorite shop would not pick up the dame phone. So I made the appointment for $80, ok? ok, all is good. By the time I am out, I am thinking I would pay around maybe 100$ or even 110$ for the jewelry included. GREAT! nope. I ended up paying 154.54. I would have even looked past that if not for the fact that, now three days later, the jewelry I picked is IN my skin because of the swelling. It fucking hurts to say the least. For my other piercing, the piercer only had one piece of jewelry, and it's usually big because you need to give room for the swelling. So this tiny ass jewelry is now in my skin, and I don't have my 154.54. So yipeeeee. Just save your time and money and go to a good place, brh. I usually don't post reviews but I had to this time. I've taken my teen daughter twice to be pierced my a lovely lady named Paola. My daughter had a nose piercing back in June and today got her snake bite piercing. Paola is so professional, sweet. Her area is always clean. She explains every question and concerns you may have. I came to Fatty's for a jewelry change after being referred here by my tattoo artist, wanting to get a labret put in my nostril as I've heard they make the healing process much easier. On a whim I decided I also wanted my rook pierced, so I scheduled an appointment for both online. First thing I must say is the website is very nice and navigable. You can schedule everything completely online (at least for piercings) and I was very pleased not having to go through some convoluted process to get an appointment. Because I technically had 2 appointments back to back, I had a longer time slot reserved. Despite this, I was grateful the initial booking down payment wasn't any more expensive. Nice. The place is chill and fairly lowkey despite being in the middle of downtown silver spring and Dennis, the piercer, did a good job swapping out my nose screw for a labret and piercing my rook. It was fairly painless and easy. So far both are healing nicely. The only (somewhat) negative is the pricing is really high (I paid around $170 for both combined) but I understand the economy is shit rn so, whatever, I have the money. In the long run it's not a big deal when you are going to the best in the Montgomery county area. read more

I set my appointment the week prior and was seen promptly after arriving. Dennis explained the different types of Jewlery to me and helped me pick two pieces for my nose Piercing. He placed the initial piercing mark where he thought it'd look best and explained why but I ultimately opted to push the piercing a little further back on my nose. I had a great experience here with Eric. I came in on a Saturday afternoon as a walk-in, expecting to make an appointment for a custom piece. I was helped within 15 minutes, discussed my original design with Eric. He had a lot of really great input on the design, improved on my initial vision, and had me in the chair in less than an hour. I'd like to note I have severe anxiety disorder and a variety of health issues that cause chronic pain. Eric was totally willing to take his time with the process and breaks whenever I needed them, and the work is perfect. Also he was really great with the distracting small talk, which goes a long way when you're spending a seemingly endless amount of time getting rainbow dot work done. 10/10 would let Eric stab me with inky needles again. read more

Do not let the owner tattoo you. The photos you see of nice tattoos on Yelp and elsewhere are mostly from former employees who are now long gone. The owner simply can not tattoo. Don't let his resume or reputation influence you. Take a look at his paintings on the walls and ask yourself if you want that "art" on your body forever. I've had a few ear piercings done at Fatty's and they are top notch. Fatty's is clean, courteous, and uses only great quality jewelry. Dennis did my last 3 piercings and I've had an amazing experience! It's so fun to visit a piercer who loves jewelry as much as I do. When I went for my checkup/jewelry downsizing, he helped me pick out and special order some new jewelry. Once it arrives, Dennis and I already have plans to poke some new holes to show it off. He has excellent taste and an eye for aesthetics so I trust him to make it look special in addition to being safely done. This is a pretty cool and chill atmosphere for piercings. I came here with a friend for double nose piercings. We were recommended by other Yelp reviews to try Valerie. So we called in advance to inquire which studio she would be working. No appointment was required as its first come first serve and the last piercing appointment is taken at 7:30. Since it's right in the heart of downtown silver spring street parking is available but limited. The location is clean, spacious, and handicap accessible. The music is a variation of hard rock, and a few hip hop selections. The piercing jewelry they provide is beautiful but a little pricey so make sure to budget for that. As far as the piercing experience Valerie was very pleasant and professional. She made sure to thoroughly explain everything to ensure we had the best piercing experience possible. She's been piercing for about 5 Years now and really knows her craft. My friend and I both received double nostril piercings which can be difficult to make perfectly symmetric. Valerie completed both sets with ease and even ambidextrously pierced my friends nose. Her aftercare tips were simple and easy to follow as well. I went in to get pierced with Danni (industrial, and double nose piercings). She was really cool! I messaged her about my industrial and she suggested downsizing. However, when tried to make an appointment to downsize I got no response. Sent two more messages and still no response. I even sent another inquiry about getting my venom piercing done and still NO response. On top of that, one of my nose piercings fell out and I ordered two new gems, as well as a thread less post and I didn't receive the post. First time getting a tattoo and my experience was horrible. I went to fatty's to get one professionally done and met with a tattoo artist by the name of Stephanie. Told her I wanted someone who can do fine line tattoos, she showed me her IG page and I liked her line work. The girl prides herself on being the best line work tattoo artist out there and I took her word for it. Got the tattoo done and noticed the lines on the right side of my lotus tattoo were slightly thicker. Thought maybe I'm just swollen from the tattoo idk--it was my first time. It completely healed and still looked the same. Figured she'd even it out once I get the touch up. Got the touch up and this girl literally didn't do much other than add more color. The right side is still thick as hell. The work she has on her IG page were good but I have no idea how she butchered a small simple tattoo eithme. I paid I think $140/$160 (I don't recall) and that's including tip. Apparently, you have to pay first before getting your tat which means I had to include tip at that moment. Had I known my first tat would come out this bad, I would've never tipped her. I've always been apprehensive about getting tattoos and this girl only made my worst nightmares come true. Don't get me wrong, she's a nice girl and she honestly has some good work but she messed up on me. Will never go back. I think with Stephanie, it's either a hit or miss. UPDATE: I'm attaching a photo of what you call a fine line tattoo that I received from another tattoo artist a few months ago. Told him what Stephanie from Fatty's messaged me on here about fine line tattoos having a higher risk of blow outs and attempted to give me a science lesson about how that happens to which he exclaimed was bogus. He explained that blow outs happen when the artist applies too much pressure or pushes the needle in too deep. Did my own research and confirmed what he told me. Instead of owning up to her own error, she's misinforming customers and making up false information to weasel herself out of the situation. As the "best fine line tattoo artist in the dmv area", she should know this basic info. Before coming to Any Fatty's please do your research. read more

I had an AWFUL experience with Dennis changing out my helix piercing jewelry at the Silver Spring location. I asked for two thin hoops for my two existing helix piercings. I was shown some of the styles in rose gold and gold. Dennis sized my ear and went to the back to choose the silver jewelry. I did not have a chance to see the hoops I purchased before he sterilized them and put them in. When I got home, the hoops were SO dull and dark grey, not at all what I asked for. Furthermore, the hoop size (chosen by Dennis, without any input from me) was so small that my ear had swollen around the piercing and was constantly throbbing. I tried for an entire week to get in touch with the shop, via email, the portal, and all phone numbers listed. After a week, I had to remove the hoops by myself at home, with tweezers. Finally Dennis messaged me back on the portal and agreed to swap out the jewelry and let me pay the difference in price. When I arrived today to pick out the new jewelry, Dennis informed me that I would have to pay full price AND he could not give me any refund for the botched job the previous time. To make matters worse, when Dennis changed out my nose piercing, he took my other hoop and did not give it back. So now I'm out $250 (plus a generous $50 tip) and my personal jewelry. read more

I've been tattooed by Zac on four separate occasions and I plan to keep going back. He's really focused on giving you the best tattoo possible. He worked up a beautiful design for a half sleeve on my right arm a did a fantastic job with the outline and color. I couldn't be happier with it. Had a great experience with Fatty's in Silver Spring. Their messaging portal was easy and they were very responsive, making it easy to ask questions and schedule an apt. I worked with Dennis, who was lovely and was a great at helping me pick out the jewelry for my third lobe piercings (and very patient as I was being indecisive about which ones to pick!) They are appointment only ,so book first. It took like, 20 minutes total from walking in to leaving, very quick and easy, and very minimal pain. Only concern was one of the people behind the counter had his mask under his chin/wasn't wearing it while I was there, which was concerning given omicron. The absolute worst, most unprofessional service. A friend and I were set to get a very small (size of a quarter) matching tattoo with Stef at the H street location. A day before, she texts saying she has to reschedule. Fine. We easily rescheduled for the following Friday. 2 hours before the rescheduled appointment she texts saying she can't making it again. Shit happens, sure. But to charge so much $$ (that we were willing to pay bc her work is great) and then waste our time twice is incredibly unprofessional, especially bc we waited for 2 months to be tattooed by her. Was about to get my 8th tattoo, the concept had been worked on for months. I'm not the type to have just any artist ink me, if I put in the thought for the concept and its design, I want an artist that puts work into their craft as well. The aura upon meeting just one person in this place set the mood. Very dry personality, you could see in his eyes that it pained him to even speak to me. I would have preferred he said nothing actually. I've experienced many forms of racism, and handled this unspoken racism (words were not needed) the same way. I pray for that establishment, and hope they continue to receive the type of clients they want. I would make recommend they simply put a sign out front stating "no colored people allowed" it would save them time on speaking. read more

REFUSED TO BE SERVICED. I came here a few months ago looking to get a belly piercing. I was pretty excited because this location had been fairly new the downtown silver spring location, which is close to me. So I went in on a Friday around 7pm. I walked in and my first impression was that the front desk guy was annoyed. I say this because he looked like he wanted to leave the store to go get food or something but rolled his eyes when he saw me. So I go in anyways and tell him what service I wanted. The man tells me that piercings services are done for the day. Understandable since it was a little later in the day (I don't know how tattoo and piercing places work) and told me to come back on Sunday at 1pm. I specifically remember asking him twice "ok Sunday at 1pm?" He said yes. So I return back Sunday at 1pm. This time it was a different man that I was speaking to. This man was tall and didn't have hair so I assumed he was the manager or something. I go in to tell him what service I wanted. This man proceeds to tell me "oh we don't do any piercing services on Sunday". So at this point I'm getting irritated because it seems like so much trouble to get something that should take no longer than 10-15 minutes to do. I explained to this man how I came in on Friday and was told to come back today. I explained who the person was and instead of apologizing for wasting my time and telling me false information he tells me "oh my staff here would never say something like that." One poor business move I will say is that if you defend your staff and tell off customers then you definitely won't have people returning back to your establishment. I really don't know why I even continued to speak to them after they were being incredibly rude and arrogant. I just wanted to see what my options were. The manager begins to ask me "you got a car?" I didn't know what the reason for this was. I was asked if I "had a car" so I could hurry up and drive all the way to their DC location to go chase down the person who does piercing services since he wasn't here today. What the heck? Really? There's other people in the area who can do it on the spot. I shouldn't have to be told to go drive like an a idiot for a service I was told I could have on Sunday. My encounter ended with a strange upsell. The manager took my phone number and told me "we don't take Monday piercing services and the person who does the piercings will be out for 2 weeks but I will see if I can book you tomorrow". Absolutely made no sense. At this point I'm super irritated and I don't even want the service. Then another man starts showing me jewelry options and told me that the cost of my service would be from $50 to like $120. So strange. Why upsell me for a service you refuse to give me? Just to add on to this I have the manager telling me "we may not be able to do the service for you if your body chemistry doesn't match with the piercing". Point blank- rude, arrogant, disrespectful, unorganized, and definitely not customer service oriented. I still never received a call back to get the service. I would think you want my money wouldn't you? Whatever there's plenty of other places to get a piercing so I'm not heartbrokened. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place to ANYONE. read more

Went here because I lost the bead in my CBR rook piercing. Kyle was super awesome and knowledgeable. The place was clean with the exception of the flooring located in the window space. Leave it to me to notice the dust and shoeprints there, far away from where the actual work is done. While I was there, a woman stopped in to ask about a facial piercing and Kyle gave an honest opinion (i.e. it wouldn't really work for her face). Additionally, he checked out my conch piercing and noticed the jewelry was a bit bent but didn't insist I buy a new piece for it--something I highly respect, as both indicate a commitment to craft rather than simply making money. I came in Wednesday night around 7 for a helix piercing, the guy at the front desk isn't the smiley type lol but he was chill. Then I was told that the piercer would go over the jewelry choices and info with me... which didn't happen. I followed her back to the piercing room and the table had makeup and stuff on it with no sanitary barrier. I tried to talk about some concerns I had but she seemed more invested in her phone throughout the whole process. Then she said I was done without talking about after care or asking how I felt or anything, the nicest person was one of tattoo artists asking about it. It just felt very impersonal, the piercer herself (Janine I think) clearly isn't too invested in the job or her customers. For $80 I expected more, guess I'll go back to tattoo paradise where the customer service is way better and considerably cheaper. read more

Update: I went in a few weeks ago for a custom tattoo. Went in, talked about it for a bit, came back the next day, and -loved- what was drawn up. A few adjustments, and we were in business. Zach was extremely patient with me while we tried to get the placement right, never looking flustered when I wanted to try it again. He seemed to really enjoy what he was doing, and it showed in the end result - clean lines, beautiful shading, my new favorite tattoo! Planning on coming in again soon for my next one! A couple of my friends have balked a bit at their prices (they aren't the cheapest shop in town), but I'm of the opinion that if you're going to get something permanent, don't be cheap about it. The piercer at this location is fantastic- super gentle and calm, and very knowledgeable and professional. He walks you through every step of the process and aftercare, and is always happy to answer questions if you call. I went in with my husband when he got his piercing, and not only did the piercer remember me from months earlier, but voluntarily checked my piercings to see how they had healed. I would never go anywhere else for a piercing. I've only ever gotten tattoos at the Dupont location (also a positive experience), but I came in with my friend when she got hers done. It was a custom design and everyone worked together to make it work. The tattoo artist was very professional and her tattoo is exactly what she wanted. She loves it! This place is very clean and extremely strict about hygiene-- other reviewers have been put off by this, but I appreciate it. If your prefer to go to a place with subpar cleanliness standards, more power to you. read more
