My dog (and my wallet) endured unnecessary tests I was previously told that Cushing's was essentially a "process of elimination" type of disease - it looks very similar to diabetes so if our dog responded to insulin, it would be determined he did not have Cuching's. However, while my dog was at Faulkner for medical boarding, the test was administered, without my consent, and I was then charged roughly $170 Duplicative tests were done and charged for, and the cost for the duplicative test was significantly higher than a different clinic Our dog lost his vision. We took him to Animal Eye Clinic where they performed various tests, including an IOP (eye pressure) check. When relaying this to Faulkner during a follow up, the vet recommended we "double check" his IOP. I naively thought this would be free because my dog just had gotten the test a couple days prior and this was not something I asked for, rather something the doc volunteered. Well, no surprise here, my dog's pressures were fine (consistent with what was determined at the Animal Eye Clinic), but not only were we charged, the price for the same exact test was significantly MORE at Faulkner Inaccurate assessment and diagnosis Faulkner repeatedly told me my dog's cataracts were not significant and couldn't be the reason for the blindness we were reporting. We were told not to worry about his vision as that is secondary to the bigger issue, his diabetes (despite my telling them he is bumping into walls and falling down stairs). However, when we went to Animal Eye Clinic, they reported that my dog's cataracts are so advanced, that while most folks with cataracts can see some (although it appears very cloudy like a foggy or dirty lens), my dogs can see absolutely nothing (as we had expected and tried to explain to Faulkner). I understand Faulkner isn't an eye specialist, however, cataracts are extremely common and any competent vet should be able to appropriately diagnose. Not proactively transparent about costs I've already spoken to this a bit, BUT I will add that when we finally started proactively asking how much things would cost, we were under quoted for the testing they wanted to do to gauge how much insulin my dog would need. So, on the day of service, I was quite surprised by the bill. Still, I was demanded to pay the price at checkout, not the price quoted prior. Long waiting times I thought this was typical of vet clinics UNTIL we went to Animal Eye Clinic, where our appointment time was stuck to. We have busy jobs and lives and cannot waste time waiting 30 minutes to an hour past our appointment time. Lack of detailed summary of visit Again, I thought this was normal, until I went to Animal Eye Clinic where they not only talked through all issues in a clear and detailed way, but also printed AND emailed a detailed summary of the visit I HIGHLY recommend you spend an extra 30 minutes going to Indian Land, Rockhill, Waxhaw, anywhere else to get BETTER treatment at a CHEAPER price. read more

I had to find a veterinarian to euthanize my cat who was going through neurological issues severely impacting her quality of life. Faulkner took us in the day I called. They provided a room where my wife and I could spend time saying goodbye to our precious and loved cat. They told us how they would perform the procedure and asked if we wanted to be there. We stayed through the procedure and they allowed us as much time as we needed to say our goodbyes. They allowed us to take care of payment in the room and not have to return to the main lobby. They also allowed us to leave through a back exit again preventing us to have to walk through the lobby with our year drenched eyes. They were very companionate and I'd highly recommend them should you find yourself in a situation like this. read more

Very unprofessional place to go. Allowing clients with dogs that bark, snarl and lunge at you as you try to come in the door to check in. Make you wait out in the rain and then suggest waiting in your car. Not only did the encounter frighten me but my cat. No apologies, no decency with any of the staff. I've always liked Faulkner's animal hospital until recently. I made an appointment for my cat Phoenix to be declawed and to my dismay. The vet Brent Glenn botched up the surgery and left a claw in her foot. I simply asked for a refund. Even a partial would suffice for his screw up. He did Apologize and offered to do it free but I'm not putting my cat back through that again to have one nail removed. If you can offer a free service with anesthesia then you can give a partial refund back because I do understand that some claws were removed. I'm very surprised and upset because he was supposed to reach back out to me yesterday to talk to me about his matchup but he couldn't even do that! I will be reporting him to BBB and to the licensing board for vet malpractice. I also had a surgery planned for one of my little dogs that I canceled because I don't want this man working on any of my animals anymore. My husband took Phoenix back up there for Brent Glenn to look at her yesterday and he looked at my husband and said well I'm only human and wanted to know if the cat had ate. The vet was full and he was going to do it right there on the spot. Sorry sir but you botched her up one time I don't want nothing else happening to my animal or any more pain caused by your hand. I can't convince you but I know when I find a jewel of a place of humans who really care about your pet and you (how much you can afford). It's kind of far to drive there but I'd travel farther for a veterinarian who cares like they do. I brought my cat in thinking it needed a rotten tooth pulled bc he had such bad breath. One look at his teeth, I was told, the tartar was minor n not necessary for a cleaning yet...and no rotten tooth! I was so happy bc cleaning requires anesthesia which is expensive. But, I was happy for my cat that we were told that it was the bad food that was giving off this rotten breath smell. I was giving him Friskies pâté from Costco until Costco dropped the product so I purchased Friskies shreds from Chewy n that's when the problem started. Switched to Royal Canin n everything is great! No more throwups which I thought was a hairball problem but not! Faulkner's is very honest and affordable, I truly believe. They're down-to-Earth ppl just as if u knew them for ages. read more

Our older dog slipped and injured her leg, so we called ahead and were told to bring her in. We carried our very scared, trembling 14-year-old dog into the clinic and checked in at the front desk. Knowing there were other patients with appointments, we settled in to wait. An hour passed, so we asked the front desk if we would be seen today. They assured us we would be. Fifteen more minutes went by, and then the front desk staff began packing up to leave. A vet tech noticed us and asked if we had been seen yet. We explained we had been waiting for over an hour, and she acknowledged it, asking if our chart had been pulled. We confirmed it had, and she kindly took us to an exam room, saying she'd look for our chart. After taking our dog's temperature, she told us the doctor would be in soon. Another 25 minutes passed with no communication from anyone. At this point, we gave up and decided to take our poor dog, who was still in pain and shaking, back home. When we exited the room, the lights in the waiting area were off, and the two front desk employees just stared at us as we left. We told them we had been waiting for two hours with no help and that we would never return. They didn't even apologize. There was no compassion for our elderly dog or for us. We will never be back and cannot recommend this place to anyone. read more

New to the area and drove 25 minutes to this vet clinic after reading Yelp reviews. We had an appointment but didn't get called back for close to an hour. The waiting room was packed. The layout makes it difficult to find escape routes when other dogs are aggressive. I found it easier to wait with my dog in my vehicle until they called us back. Dr. Ellis was very professional and kind to my geriatric furkid. She explained treatment options and was not pushy. She provided us with an estimate for a surgical procedure. I felt like it was fair and like she cared about my dog's wellbeing. Ultimately, I'm very pleased with this clinic. Both the techs and the vet seemed compassionate and professional. A vet here treated my dog like trash. Take my word and go elsewhere if you care about your dog. She met my dog and didn't even pet him nor let him smell her. She automatically said to put a muzzle on him and my dog never wears a muzzle. No other vet has ever given me this experience. She then grabbed my dogs collar and pulled on it as hard as she could, choking him. I've been a customer since 2013 and I've never experienced something like this ever before. Would never take another pet here! Mis diagnosed my dog twice! The first time i was told he had heart worms. Had I not pushed back because he a an annual heartworm shot a few months earlier they would have started him on treatment. I went to a different vet and he did not have heart worms. The second time I took him in for slightly labored breathing and swollen lymph nodes... diagnosis- allergies. When it did not clear up took him to another vet who diagnosed him with lymphoma. I have been going to Faulkner's for about 14 years. They treat my dogs like babies as I do. The techs are wonderful.........Dr. Knox is especially outstanding. I have a dog that I found and was very fear aggressive, pit and lab and honestly I was afraid of him. Dr. Knox has not only treated him medically but has worked with me, now I am able to be the one in control (most of the time) Chief can now get his nails trimmed without being sedated or held down by 4 people both of which were traumatic for him, me and the staff. He has returned my calls when I have a question about a problem and doesn't rush to get off the phone - makes sure I am satisfied and aware of whats needed. The office staff was kind and helpful no matter how busy they were. This office is definitely here to take care of our babies and not their pockets. I had to give 1 star so that I could comment. It's more than Faulkner Animal Hospital and their incompetent doctors deserve. My son's rescue dog, a Boxer named Diablo, hasn't been able to keep any food down. We have loved this sweet dog for 4 years and he has been to Faulkner Animal Hospital for all of his healthcare since my son rescued him in 2011. He has been misdiagnosed on several different occasions by every "doctor" at Faulkner. My son has spent a small fortune on Diablo's healthcare, trying to get Diablo a diagnosis and relief from numerous health issues. On June 3, 2015, Diablo was, yet again, mis-diagnosed by Dr. Knox. There were no test performed, no blood was taken for bloodwork, and no x-rays were taken. Instead, based on the fact that Diablo can't keep any food down, Dr. Knox diagnosed him with Gastritis. This is a BS diagnosis. I'm not a doctor, but I knew there was more to Diablo's sickness than just gastritis. On June 5, not satisfied with this diagnosis, my daughter and niece took him to a real doctor at Southern Paws in Indian Land. The first thing they did was bloodwork and x-rays. In less than one hour, Diablo was diagnosed with anemia and multiple organ failure (his liver had completely shut down, his kidneys were shutting down). At this point, there were three options: $4,000+ of emergency care, an ultrasound on his kidneys monitor it, or being euthanized. The option to spend $4,000+ on emergency care was almost pointless because there was a 5% chance it would work. At 4:05pm, about 47!hours after Dr. Knox diagnosed him with gastritis, Diablo was put to sleep because all of his organs had stopped working and he was in a great deal of pain. We have no idea how long Diablo has been suffering due to organ failure, but we do know that he would have had a chance if he had been tested and treated by a vet who actually cared enough about him to run tests and find out what was wrong with our Diablo. At $160+ each visit, Faulkner Animal Hospital has made a small fortune misdiagnosing Diablo for 4 years. Faulkner Animal Hospital lost 4 patients today because of their incompetence to diagnosis and treat this sweet dog who was sick and ultimately diagnosed with complete organ failure and had to be put to sleep. We lost a very important, very loved member of our family today. Diablo was the best dog EVER and he was LOVED! If you feel like something is wrong with your pet and you need to take him to the vet, drive past Faulkner Animal Hospital and take him/her to a real doctor and get him some help. Our sweet boy did not deserve this. R.I.P. Sweet Diablo. :( read more

PROS: This place is very affordable. CONS: Everything else. I took my mother here because we had been before, and knew the wait could be quite long, and she wanted someone to talk to. Again, we had to wait about an hour after the appointment time, even though we were early for that appointment by about 10 minutes. When the doctor finally saw us, we told her that our cat had had a bad reaction to his last shot (a combination shot that protects against several diseases) and we didn't think he should have another one. She said some negative reaction was normal and that the shots would protect him from getting sick, but the poor cat wouldn't eat or drink for several days, and honestly I've never seen an animal react so badly to a shot...and I've had more than twenty cats in my life (sliiiiiight obsession). So my mother asked if the vet could give the cat the shots separately, not in a combination form. The vet left the room, supposedly to get the shot ready. The walls are VERY thin, so of course we could hear her complaining in the back. She said verbatim, to someone in the hallway, "These people won't get their animals vaccinated and then they act all surprised when they get sick." In just a very rude, condescending tone. Our cat was actually quite healthy BEFORE we took him to this vet, and his appetite and playfulness never recovered after treatment there. Also, we still intended to get him his shots, just not in a powerful combination form. Needless to say, we did not return to this place ever again. This is one of those establishments that doesn't truly care about animals, just the money. We found a much better veterinarian and though he costs a bit more, we don't miss this place at all. read more

Was very upset because I have heard so many good things about this animal hospital, But it was one of the worst experience I have ever in my life had there!!! Took my dog there the first time for her having seizures and the doctor in like she could care less about getting to the bottom of what was causing the seizures. She just said that she wasn't having them often enough for her to care about. Got home with her that evening and was checking her out and found a golf size lump on her growing so that lets me know that she didn't even do a Thurrell exam on her. And needless to say I paid almost $200 just for her to tell me it was nothing to worry about and commonsense would tell you if my dog is having seizures it is something to worry about! So I called back the next day and she asked for me to bring her back in. And At the time everyone was having to sit outside and call In to check in due to the coronavirus. I called and was put on hold for 20 minutes and then someone picked up and hung up on me so one of the workers came outside and I told her what was going on and she said there's nothing I can do about that just keep calling till you can get in touch with someone she acted like she was bothered because I was trying to get my baby seen. I finally got through to let them know I was outside and I sat out there for over an hour after that I just left due to the first experience I had with Everyone there the first time I brought her and then the experience I had that day I decided to leave. If they were to call me back and tell me that they would give me a free visit I would tell them no thanks because from my experience it was terrible and when it comes to my fur baby I want someone loving and compassionate caring for her and they were neither. Once again the worst experience I've ever had at a vetAnd definitely will never be back which I'm sure they don't care because they acted like they were so upset because I was trying to get my baby seen. And I'm still at home hours later trying to figure out why they had so much anger towards me and my fur baby, We didn't do nothing at all to anyone up there except try to get my baby feeling better. read more

Today I took my new kitten for well check as recommended by Shelter Adoption Agency. Arrived when they opened, gave all paperwork to receptionist, and waited for an hour to be seen. Once in room, had to give paperwork to nurse again as previous lab work was not recorded during intake. Upon checkout, had to give paperwork a third time as was charged for service that was supposed to be covered by adoption fee. Then found out because we did not have appointment, we walked in, there was a $25 fee! Nowhere is there a sign nor were we told this when we checked in. Office manager did refund but not before she VERY STERNLY stated this is the ONLY time this would be allowed and there will always be a fee for no appointment as they have to control the number of walk ins. I agree with controlling walk ins, and had they told me at the beginningging (or had a sign posted) I would have scheduled an appointment and not been seen today. She said it was part their fault (a sign would be posted by end of day) and part MY fault for not knowing what the charges would be prior to going into exam room! Seriously, how is it my fault if you don't tell people at time of check in when this is pet's first time there? How many people have paid this fee without knowing about it? Seems shady to have hidden charges. read more
