I'm updating my review because I asked this facility for a refund after my dog's condition declined under their care. In response, they told me to first remove my reviews from Google and Yelp in order to process the refund. That alone reflects how they handle complaints and accountability. I boarded my dog Mishka here while attending my sister's funeral one of the most difficult times in my life. The photos they sent showed Mishka looking terrified and unwell, but they kept saying she was "doing great." I asked four times for my emergency contact (my nephew, who has a close bond with her) to visit and check on her. They denied every request. I also asked that she be walked, and they didn't cooperate. I noticed in two or three playtime photos that she was on a leash, and when I asked why, they said it was for her safety because she's a jumper but isn't this supposed to be a place designed for dogs to play? When I picked her up, she was dirty, had visible signs of diarrhea, and her ribs were showing. A vet confirmed she had lost over 13% of her body weight and suspected stress from boarding as the cause. At first, the facility said they would review covering the vet bill then later refused. I love Bed and Bark in Waxhaw. My dog is always well taken care of. She is happy when I drop her off and happy when I pick her up. The staff has ALWAYS been friendly and accommodating and willing to help in any way, from changes to drop off and/or pick up and even when my dog got sick while I was out of town. Well, this was the second boarding and it didn't not go as well. I'm not clear as the why or how this happened but when I picked her up, she was filthy. Her feet, mouth, and chest were sticky and she smelled weird. There were leaves on her feet which makes no sense as everything is indoors. I called the young man at the front desk to inquire and was told that they use wipes to clean their feet before pickup. But why would the wipes leave her so sticky? I recommend discontinuing those wipes!! I had to bathe her (which isn't easy). I hope that my concerns will be somehow addressed. I would think that given it's an indoor run, she wouldn't be so dirty. read more

We had a day scheduled for our golden retriever to meet the team and play with other dogs with similar personalities. Unfortunately due to a coughing outbreak, management did the right thing and closed the facility for 3 weeks. We had her evaluated after the 3 weeks and couldn't be happier with the care and playtime provided. We look forward to taking her back for longer durations as we plan outings and vacations. Bed & Bark is by far the best place you could imagine trusting with your Dog, Cat, or Small Pets like rabbits and guinea pigs. Here's why. First off, the service is exceptional, with a reception staff that goes above and beyond to accommodate the pet guests, owners and staff. The handlers provide wonderful communication and updates, and genuinely care about the animals like they were their own. Management is also engaged and amazing to work with when necessary. Cleanliness! The level of detail when it comes to the cleanliness of this place is next level, their sanitation equipment is always keeping kennels and play zones mess free. You will never have to worry about your pet playing in their messes or other pet messes. they are always on top of things and they keep cross contamination to a 0 level. Safety! The level of caution and safety is exceptional here. Between caution cards for guests, dietary notes, and team communication when navigating their top of the line facility, you can rest assured that your pet family member will receive top of the line care with a presidential level detail! This place is safe, clean, compassionate and full of animal loving people who go above and beyond, and you should give this place and their compassionate and dedicated team a chance to give your pet a vacation while you have yours! I recently had to board my dog because we were going on an overnight trip and I wanted to try a new place because previously places have been decent but out of the way for me. I have seen Bed and Bark on several occasions and decided to check it out. When you go to their website to make a reservation, you have to create an account. They ask you to create a profile and provide all the necessary information such as upload vaccination records, picture of your pet and allergies, etc. I made my reservation online which was very easy and straightforward, you do need to put a credit card on file but you can change method of payment when you checkout. As a word of advice, it's best to call after you make your reservation to confirm and also ask if they have different availability in case you didn't find what fit your needs. The facility is very clean, well laid out and the staff is very courteous and professional. I was quickly greeted and checked in but before leaving, I wanted to do a tour of the facility which they happily obliged to. Again, I was very impressed with everything and all of my questions were answered to my satisfaction. After dropping our pet off, we had an issue where we had to come back home and pick our pet up. The front desk happily changed our reservation from an overnight visit of $48 to a day stay of $30 which was very thoughtful of them. I can say that Bed and Bark has earned a loyal customer and I highly recommend them for your dog, cat or small animal boarding needs. read more

So grateful for the care my dog received while I was out of town. He has fear based reactivity that results in him barking like crazy at unfamiliar people and dogs until he gets used to you and becomes more comfortable. It's so stressful bringing him new places and I was really concerned about boarding him with these behaviors. My husband and I are new to Charlotte and have had to start over when it comes to finding dog care, so this past weekend was our first stay with Bed and Bark. The team was so friendly and understanding of my dogs special quirks and the daily updates made me feel less worried about how he was doing. We are one of the early supporters and customers to this outfit and have always taken our dog for boarding there. Unfortunately their standards have declined severely, mainly in the cleanliness of the place and treatment of the pets. Will contact them with my concerns and if I don't get a satisfactory explanation and reason of why my dog comes back home shaking and with strange seasure like episodes when touched in his sleep (jumps up at the least touch whimpering like if in pain a sign of abuse would be my first guess be it by an employee or another dog) I would gladly reverse this review once I conclude my inquiry and if not satisfied will file official complaint to the concerned authorities. These creatures can't talk or express themselves and should be treated with utmost dignity and love. If you're understaffed and can no longer handle the load, stop accepting new customers and re-evaluate your promise of care and service please. The point of yelp is to share positive and negative experiences, so I'm not apologizing for "spreading negativity." I'm sharing an awful experience that I still struggle with. If your notes are so detailed, I'm not sure why you're continuing to argue about it happening. I am positive I have the right business. I owned a house in one of the very large communities in the area and drove past Bed & Bark daily. Just because the booking wasn't done under my name (my spouse is referenced in my original review - did we ever consider it could have been booked by him?) doesn't mean I'm a troll. You literally have a picture of my other dog on your business Facebook page. Why would I take the time to write a long, detailed story about my experience if it wasn't true? Maybe you don't have a bite in the system based on the amount of time that has passed since their stay (not sure how, though) but it definitely happened according to the person you had managing the place. Take a look at my other reviews. They're mostly positive, which should be indicative of a legitimate, level-headed person. Also - consider the criticism you receive from others as constructive. You're so quick to try and clear your name without actually accepting any accountability for my or others' experiences. When my dogs stayed there, the staff member who tended to them their last morning was not experienced with behaviorally challenged dogs. We were extremely clear when booking and also when dropping off that one of our dogs is extremely terrified of strangers, cannot see out of one eye, and is generally anxious and fear-reactive. He's never bitten anyone, but he will growl to let you know he requires space. We've spent thousands in professional training to help him through his challenges, but he still struggles. All of this was clearly communicated to staff. The clear statement on the website about being able to handle all types of behavior is why we booked here. Our two dogs stayed for 3 nights in a suite with cameras that conveniently shut off over night and didn't turn back on until the morning. Given my concern over my dog's mental well-being, I CONSTANTLY checked the cameras during their stay. Each day the dog door on the rear left side of the suite was open for them to go outdoors. My fearful dog cowered in the rear right side corner for his entire stay - away from the open dog door. After my spouse left to pick them up I checked the camera and was surprised to see the right side door open instead of the left. When the dogs were picked up, my spouse was notified by the general manager that our dog bit "her best and most experienced" employee. We weren't called when it happened. I acknowledge and accept the fact that my dog bit an employee. However, I found it curious that the rear right door he had been cowering in front of his entire stay was the door opened that day instead of the left side. Again, not downplaying the fact that an employee was injured by my dog - I cried for days after it happened and even called to check on them. The manager was incredibly smug when I asked how it happened and how the employee was doing, refusing to provide any details on the situation (I was asking for details about the incident, not the employee's health). When I asked to verify whether their upcoming reservation for a few weeks later should be canceled, I didn't get a clear yes or no. I struggle to believe that a dog who spent his entire stay terrified, cowering in a corner came out of nowhere and bit an employee. Personally, I think he was pushed away or approached to open the door behind him and he responded out of fear. Having a behaviorally difficult dog is incredibly hard and isn't always the result of "irresponsible owners". If you're in a similar position, I'd reconsider booking a stay here. read more

We selected Bed & Bark due to the quality of the facility and the positive online reviews. Unfortunately, our experience with them turned out to be a nightmare. We have an older dog that requires twice daily medications. In advance of our pup's stay, we prepackaged all meds in pill pockets for ease of distribution. When we dropped off our dog, we informed the check-in staff that our pet would be anxious since he had not been in boarding since the loss of his sister a year ago. We informed the check-in staff of the various medications our dog was taking so they knew the purpose and importance of these meds. We received our first postcard late afternoon showing our dog's private playtime. The adjectives provided in the postcard (i.e., happy) did not match the photos. Our pup looked extremely stressed and distressed...his ears were down and back, he was panting, his tail was between his legs. The postcard was modified early evening to reflect that our pup did not take his nightly meds. I tried to phone Bed & Bark (got voicemail) to inform them that it was critical that our pup takes his meds or he would be in danger of withdrawal symptoms or seizures. If he would not voluntarily eat the prepared pill pockets, they would need to forcibly feed them to him. After several hours and no callback, I sent an email and left another voicemail message to inform them we would leave our retreat (prepaid expense) to return home to pick up our pup. When we arrived at Bed & Bark the next morning, I inquired if they had given our dog his morning meds. They informed me he did not take them. While we were waiting for them to pack up his belongings, I observed that private playtime consists more of the staff taking photos of the pet rather than engaging with them in play. One staffer took a couple of photos and then browsed social media, totally ignoring the dog. I cannot believe that Bed & Bark actually charged me for this nightmare of an experience. When we arrived home with our dog, he experienced a bad seizure, likely from Bed & Bark staff neglecting to give him his last two doses of medicine. I provided the facility with feedback that they need to train their staff to administer medications properly and to teach them to understand pet body language. I would also expect private playtime to include the staffer either walking or playing with the pet. If your pet requires daily medications or special attention, I suggest you avoid Bed & Bark at all costs. read more

I took a tour & booked a stay for our 2 pups; as a new business - I simply had to write something on here to 'shout' about how AMAZING this place is!!! The facility is incredible, sanitized air vents provide fresh & clean air to EACH room; and so cool how each room has its own indoor & outdoor area! They have large open-play areas that are INCREDIBLE & even an indoor one for inclement weather! CATS TOO! With an individual HVAC system for the kitties to insure dogs & cats aren't smelling each other during their stay (WOW!). Revolutionary European system for waste disposal - truly a geeks tech-dream, lol! JUST STUNNING the whole place, the owners, everything! And 'right here' in Waxhaw! Ask for a tour, I promise you'll be impressed & they charge very fair rates for your furry family & strive to make the fur-babies happy here!! I'm so glad to have a place around the corner I feel I can trust with my furry-kiddos!! read more

This Place is a joke. Went on a tour and it stinks the moment you walk In the door. Staff is highly unprofessional, especially the "manager" and prices are high for animals to be locked up 23.50 hours of the day. Will be boarding my pets at another resort in the area that allow dogs to be out and play all day or sticking with keeping my pets comfortable at home with my trusted pet sitter. read more

I just boarded my 2 dogs at Bed & Bark and I'm so glad I chose them! I got a daily report card with pictures from their play time. They were very sweet to my dogs, even my skiddish one who refused to go out for play times because he was too scared. They didn't pressure him and were very understanding.
