    Reese's flurry.

Cute small-town ice cream shop with a hometown feel. Feather N' Fin has been around for a long time. It's changed hands a few times, but it's always been a family-run type of business for as long as I can remember. I believe it still is even though the ownership has evolved throughout the years. Despite that, not a lot has changed about Feather N" Fin over the years, particularly when it comes to quality and service. The prices are still average for the area and ice cream cream is still scooped with a smile. The menu has changed somewhat, but not a lot. They still serve up large single ice cream scoops, have blended flurries and plenty of flavors (the exact number of which I'm not sure, but it's a lot). They now sell Fireside Coffee, which I think is a new thing, but I've never ordered coffee here, so I'm not 100% certain when they started doing that. The Ashby's ice cream is good and the portion sizes are ridiculous- scoops of ice cream are pretty much twice the size one would expect for the same amount of money. That's a good value, especially for a family. Oh, and it never starts melting as soon as you get it, no matter how hot it is. Trust me, I've been there when the heat index was 98. As for the flurries, they are big, but not as good as I would have expected. To be honest, a McDonald's flurry is blended better, but mine was still decent, just not as good as I would have liked. To be fair, they have two kinds of Reese's Flurries- one with plain vanilla ice cream and one with chocolate and peanut butter ice cream mixed in. I ordered the former and probably should have gotten the latter. It was still good, just not as chunky and filled with Reese's topping as I'm used to. They do charge extra for credit card transactions. I don't like that. There's no reason why they owners don't just do what every other small business (especially every restaurant, bar, farmer's market kiosk, and food truck in Flint) does and switch to using an Intuit card reader or get an Ipad for credit card transactions at a lower rate. I bet their foot traffic would tick up if they did that. I know how much I greatly dislike spending money at any business that either charges extra for credit card use or is cash only. I only stop in if I have cash on hand and am willing to spend it in the moment. Service is great- very friendly, even downright personable. I can tell that likely none of the employees are from Flint- they're too nice! They're not too chatty, nor are they cold and robot-like. The staff actually acts like they enjoy their work. Maybe there are free ice cream perks involved? Who knows? At any rate, the employees seem to go out of their way to make everyone feel like family. This is definitely a small-town ice cream shop. Rarely do I see that kind of service on the regular in a larger, urban city. There are plenty of shady areas to sit and eat outside, too. They have tables and even a covered pavilion area out back, large enough to accommodate large groups, too. That's a plus.

Ice cream with a view?…read more We stopped into this cute little ice cream parlor- located along the side of a residential home with a magnificent garden- the other day for a cone after seeing their sign advertising Mooney's Ice Cream beckoning us from down the road. I have to tell you, that roadside signage certainly worked. It got us to detour off our normal route and stop in, so who says roadside signs can't sway the public? Anyway, we found this shop housed in a small outer building next to a fairly nondescript residential home on Corunna Road. Who would have thought there was such a nice little ice cream parlor there just from driving past? I wouldn't have stopped had it not been for the signage down the road with the big arrow pointing the way. At any rate, they had so many flavors, my stomach started rumbling right then and there from the sheer number of choices. They even had no sugar added sherbet and sorbet for the health conscious crowd, plus plenty of malts and shakes in a variety of flavors. The girl was that waited on us was friendly and pointed out her favorite flavors, even offering us a sample before we ordered, although the manager/owner who was outside moving a business sign wasn't terribly polite. She gave us and another carload of people a bit of a dirty look that I found a little perplexing, as though we were bothering her just by stopping in. Weird. After scanning what flavors they had, I had my heart set on the Sea Salt Caramel Waffle Cone (double scoop), while my husband decided on a Maple Nut Waffle Cone (also double scoop), both made from Mooney's Ice Cream. I decided to leave the dark chocolate varieties that I usually prefer to our next visit. Mine was delicious, rich and creamy and filled with huge chunks of caramel woven into the ice cream. I would get that again in a heartbeat. At some point, I sampled my husband's cone, which was also delicious. He's a sucker for maple anything (syrup, sauce, ice cream, cake, etc), so he was impressed that it had plenty of natural-tasting maple flavor and nuts mixed throughout. Despite the heat, both cones held up to intense glare of the sun and didn't start melting quickly, which is a pet peeve of mine. I really hate that. Luckily, our ice cream didn't collapse into a puddle of sticky goo right away, even though it was nearly 90 degrees. Both waffle cones were huge. Double scoops of regular cones were $3.50 each, I believe, but waffle cones cost extra, so our tally was about $8.00 for both of us. I thought the prices were pretty reasonable and the ice cream quality and size did not disappoint, either. We sat outside on the rear patio, where we enjoyed our ice cream while taking in a view of the gorgeous gardens out back. Row after row of beautiful flowers and shrubs surrounded the patio area. I must admit, I never would have known they had such a cute garden oasis out back, judging from the front of the building. Now, that's a way to enjoy an ice cream cone on a hot summer day. One caveat, though- it's strictly "look, but don't touch." There was a sign warning customers not to walk around the garden. As for the parking, it was a bit congested and limited, at best. The parking lot was tight and didn't allow for too many vehicles to enter/exit at once. Truthfully, we had a difficult time getting a parking spot and more people showed up after we did. Something should be done about that. In other words, if four or more cars show up at one time (on top of the employees/owners vehicles), good luck getting a parking spot. You probably won't find one. One plus, though- they're open late every night (til about 10 or 11 p.m.). Like most ice cream shops, they're seasonal. We were told they typically close for the season by Oct. 1. I wouldn't exactly say that I'm "over the moon" about this ice cream shop, but it was cute and the ice cream was great, so I'll stop in again soon.

Uncle rays is the best!!! The workers are awesome and the ice cream is the best in mid michigan!…read moreThey have so many flavors of ice cream and frozen yogurt, different types of sundaes and custom frozen treats! I would recommend a Smurf (blue raspberry) Big Chill if you're looking for something refreshing, a Turbo Blast if you like Culver's concrete mixers (Uncle Rays soft serve is the BEST, you will not be disappointed even if you're not usually a fan of soft serve), or frozen yogurt for a fruity and fresh summer treat! There's seating outside and inside (with AC), definitely take a look inside if you get a chance because the wall is COVERED in photos of customers with Dave (the owner) and it always warms my heart to see! They also have ice cream cakes inside which are yummy and you can custom order one and pick it up later:) The mini golf is kinda a rip off now, $9 and the course is very outdated. The prizes are good and are a free ice cream or free stuff to other places local to Fenton which isn't ideal for travelers.

Nice bagel/sandwich shop, but definitely not as inexpensive as you might assume…read more Don't get me wrong- this is a nice bagel shop, especially for the mall. They're definitely doing something right. The bagels are incredibly fresh and obviously baked daily, plus the breakfast sandwiches are delicious, as well as their freshly baked cookies. It's obvious some TLC has gone into the mix here. If you expect stale bagels and a commercialized taste, you might be in for a surprise. The food is fresh. I don't think the staff would let a stale bagel leave in a customer's hands. No joke. The only problem is the price. I get that everything is fresh. Shouldn't every bagel shop be selling only the freshest of fresh goodies? I think so. The prices here at Bagel Brothers are a tad high, especially on the baked goods and treats, like cookies, muffins, biscotti, etc. Most of the baked goods are in the $9 price range. I think paying that much for a cookie, as good as it is, is a bit excessive. It's not made of gold. The bagel sandwiches are a bit higher than most of the competition, too, but I don't believe they're as out of line in price as the sweets are. It's just a little bit steep, especially for the area. Located in the former Cinnabon location at GVC, Bagel Brothers opened this year and since then, I have enjoyed their bagels and cookies a few times now. I was actually pretty excited to try it, but not so excited about their prices. Again, considering the area and the competition, it's a little high, but the quality is certainly there. I particularly enjoyed the chocolate muffins and their fresh bagels, which come in a variety of flavors, including pumpernickel, whole wheat and sun dried tomato (my personal favorite). Personally, I think the Lox bagel, with salmon and sprinkled with capers, is the best bet. I think it was about $7. Most of the loaded bagel sandwiches are in the $6-$8 range. Regular toasted bagels with cream cheese are a little over $2 (gourmet cream cheeses are extra, but the regular cream cheese suffices). If you want to spring for the gourmet cream cheese, get the dill. It's worth the extra money. They also have a large selection of sandwich wraps, as well as soups. I haven't tried the soup yet, but the broccoli and cheese looked pretty good. So far, service has been fine, but nothing out of the ordinary either way. The location is great, right on the first floor and away from the food court upstairs, which is occasionally a zoo. There is some seating out front, so you don't need to feel as if you're compelled to plop down on a bench in the middle of the mall to wolf down your bagel sandwich in a New York minute. I think they have a great product, but I don't know if everyone would be willing to spend that much for a few bagels and cookies or a muffin. Just saying. Honestly, it doesn't really bother me that much and I'm willing to spend a little more for the quality, but I'm not certain everyone would feel the same way. Like I said, excellent quality, but slightly exaggerated prices. Overall, I think it's worth it.
