I wanted to share this information to anyone who may have been in my position. I had been using Morrocco Method henna/indigo for approximately five years thinking this organic was the best for my hair. I was initially OK with the five hour processing once a month. But, it became unrealistic when I had to change from brown to black, and use the product every weekend because of gray root fading. I asked my hair dresser whom I been visiting her shop for over 20 years to change my hair dye to a chemical dye. Her response was "Hair dressers and myself, don't touch hair processed by henna/indigo." I felt abandoned. I researched how to convert to chemical dyes and read all the horror stories of hair turning green, which would be appalling for me. I am a substitute teacher, teaching elementary to high school students. I researched, and used strong shampoos and an expensive oil to remove the henna/indigo remnants. Experts suggested I let the henna/indigo grow out, which was unrealistic as I am totally gray. So, I bought a dark powder using a brush to cover my roots for several weeks. It was getting burdensome so I began researching for a possible hairdresser that could help me. Fortunately, I found "Feathers Hair Care Artistry" and selected Shirley as she had received many awards. She was very flexible with my tight schedule and saw me on a Saturday. With her expert knowledge and ongoing classes she takes, to learn the most up to date procedures, she examined my hair, and put a solution in my hair. She talked about different color levels which I had tried to understand in my research, but it would of taken me too much time to understand. And, I wasn't going to experiment on my hair. Shirley said she only uses organic products, and asked what color I would like. With her help I decided on a medium to dark brown. She said the color would make me look 20 years younger. After the process was over and I went home, I noticed my hair was healthier, shiny, and I really did look much much younger. I asked when I visit her for a touch up if my hair could be even shinier. I am also going to ask for it to be silky when I visit her soon. I came across this salon by luck, had it not been for jc penny salon screwing up my hair, I would have never came across this gem of a shop, she is the coolest and most down to earth stylist I have ever come across and she has over a dozen awards framed and hanging on her wall, she knows her sh!t, very knowledgeable!! I got very lucky meeting her and actually being able to get an emergency appointment last minute on a Friday. She understood my situation did everything to fix my hair without damaging it further from what jc penny hair salon had did to my hair. Felt very comfy and cozy in her salon. Me and my girls forever found our new spot. She's worth every penny, you will have 0 regrets!! Shirley does amazing work and I have been going to her for the last year. She is the only person I trust with my hair. My hair is naturally straight and jet black. She has been able to give me a lighter look that I love with my hair being the healthiest it's ever been. The quality of work and her passion to give her best all the time. Shirley Feathers is THE BEST. It took me a long time to find a new hairdresser when I moved to Ukiah, and it was worth the wait! Shirley has many years of experience in the field, and in a previous role she was sent to struggling salons to help turn them around. I have never before worked with someone who clears the little cut hairs so thoroughly that I can wear my "fresh from the salon" look for several days. (Who knew that was even possible?) Not only does she have great technical skills, but she is a great listener as well. She responds to feedback and has worked with me to develop a custom haircut that suits my style and lasts a long time between cuts. I have searched high & low for a hairstylist, with no luck. Until I found Shirley. It's like the Creator himself, opened the gates of Heaven & brought her to me.Not only does she cut my hair BOMB she colors it to perfection. The best hair cut of my life, I received from her.
