Well, this is going to be a long review. I went to get a wig styled. I asked for old Hollywood curls and Judy told me she could do that. I left the wig with her for a week (she said she'd need a week to do it as she was busy with other clients). I communicated twice with Judy over the phone about the wig before I picked it up. The first time I told her I could not come and get the wig yet because I had an emergency that left me unable to go to the salon. The second time I called and told her I was coming to get the wig. She said come on in. Imagine my surprise when I get there and she pulls the wig out of a shopping bag all bunched up, not styled and on a mannequin head like it should have been, and tells me this is all she could do, as the wig did not take to heat styling. The wig does not have Hollywood curls at all, I've attached a photo so anyone can see that the wig looks like it has NO style whatsoever. I have styled synthetic wigs myself, there are alternative methods to heat styling that she could have tried. She's the hairdresser, why do I know this and she doesn't? I communicated with her twice since dropping my wig off. Why didn't she tell me either of those times that she couldn't style the wig? My theory is that she couldn't style the wig but she didn't want to admit she couldn't style it until I physically got to the salon so she could take me off guard and take my money anyway. Which is what she did. Fortunately I mustered up the courage to go back to the salon and ask for a refund. She would not give me a full refund because she said she had spent effort trying to style the wig. I told her I didn't pay for her effort, I paid for her product, and I did not receive the product. No one should have to pay for a service they did not receive. She could have spent 10 hours or 10 minutes on the wig, it wouldn't have mattered to me as long as I got my product. The time she spent "trying" to style it is irrelevant. I didn't get what I paid for, and that's that. Judy was rude when I asked for a partial refund. When I asked for $40 back out of the $65 I gave her, she said "uh, no, $30" in a blunt tone that I was just not expecting. Who treats their customers like that? She then told me that if I had just bought one of her wigs that she sells there that styling it wouldn't have been a problem. What? None of her wigs are the color or length mine is, and none of them are of the same quality. Plus, she never even suggested that when I first showed up at the salon, and instead PRAISED the quality of my wig and confidently assured me she could style it. I think other people who went to this salon and gave it good reviews must be easily satisfied. If you are not easily satisfied and/or expect high quality service from professionals, skip this salon. I can always count on Judy to help me with shampoo and conditioner that will be best for my hair. She also helps with hair dyes and colors. Loved it here. New to the area, looking for a place to get my hair done. After 7 months of not doing anything because of COVID I really wanted a nice haircut and highlights. I called several places in the area that took days to get back to me, but Judy actually answered the phone. I went for a next day appointment, showed her a photo, she looked at it for literally 1 minute and when I was done my hair looked exactly like I wanted it. I wish I could give zero stars. My daughter took a wig into Judy to cut and style in a specific style. Judy did not style it at all, claimed it would not take a curl but charged her $65 anyway!! When my daughter went back to get a refund, Judy refused. After haggling over it she got a small partial refund and a lot of unpleasant cocky attitude and comments from Judy and no apology. This is horrible customer service. Stay far away unless you want terrible service and to get ripped off! Judy wants to be paid for her time not for what she actually does to your hair or wig. Sorry, women don't want to and should not pay for your incompetence. Note to all women. If you go to a salon and are not happy with the results or do not get what you asked for then you are under NO OBLIGATION to pay!! Joey is a gem! I called Shag for an appointment to tame my massive unruly mane, and Joey got me into her chair the same day. I have incredibly dense, thick, multi-textured (spirals, s-waves, loose loops) long hair. I have submitted to the wildness that is my mane (no heat styling, committed to natural texture). It must stay long so that weight keeps it from mushrooming - but I am always searching for stylists who can help thin and remove density internally. I also like my ends to be "whispy", point cut or razored. Blunt cuts on the ends create more volume, and volume is my problem. Joey listened to my vision, my past experiences with certain cutting/styling techniques, and ended up giving me one of my favorite haircuts! She's a true creative and a total sweetheart. Judy is AMAZING! I have curly unruly hair and she knows her stuff. The best style, color and cut... and incredible scalp massages too! I get more comments on the highlights she has done and I look younger. She really takes your personality, color and face shape into consideration and listens to what you want. Oh and they have an incredible product section. Products arent subjected to a shelf in the waiting room, their whole entire front of the salon is many many lines of products, tools and makeup! I am so grateful I found a place that "gets" my hair! Both Judy and Linda are experts at cutting wavy hair so it will behave. A few times over the past 12 years, i went to some one else and asked for same thing...my hair would not behave and I ended back at The Shag so they could fix it - and they did. A few snips here and there and my waves tamed. They are super skilled! When i move, i will travel all the way here to get my hair cuts! read more

We hired Shag salon for our August wedding. Coming from out of town for our wedding, salon options were limited. Alisha and Linnea did a great job on hair and makeup for me (the bride), my mom, and the bridal party. After the trial hair and makeup I felt comfortable that they would listen to what we were looking for and do a great job. Shag's staff are easy to work with and incredibly friendly. I was recommended to have my hair done by Alisha because my hairdresser was on leave until an undetermined time. I went on 11/04/17 for a root touch up. When I had scheduled the appointment I had told Alisha what color my hair was and I needed a root touch up,cut, and how long my hair was. I asked for a price quote based on what I told her was $140 maybe $150. I cannot say how a root touch up was miscommunicated and turned into a whole head of highlights and not even the color I had asked for, when I specifically told Alisha I was there for the root touch up and she said you want platinum and I said no ash blonde. I am not sure why a hairdresser of 20 yrs cannot tell the difference between those two colors. Both Alisha and Judy were trying to convince me the brown would fade out and I would be back to my ash blonde hair I had walked in with. I tried to convince myself as I sat in the chair that it was ash blonde when it was done.I kept saying the lighting must be off, my eyes must not be adjusting properly, maybe its my glasses. Alisha and I were the only ones left in the salon when I went to pay and she kept apologizing to me that she knew it was not what I wanted and she apologized more because the price was $240! then she says oh I am sorry I took all your money. I'm hourly here and I have to go by what is written down. DO you still want to buy the products? say what???!!! I was so angry I couldn't speak I just kept saying ok ok ok to get out of there and go home. Then Alisha said, If I was not happy to call and they would fix it. When I got home my husband asked me what happened to your hair? You decided to change it? My kids even said oh you changed your hair? I was so upset it made me cry. I Called everyday for a week no reply from anyone until Monday Nov 13th and it wasn't a call it was a text message from Alisha saying sorry I don't work there anymore.. what? after a week your gone and I will have to wait until you decide to get employed again to fix my hair? I cried more. I didn't want brown hair with gold!!! I left another message for Judy this time to call me and still nothing. One more thing, when you go to get your hair done and a "style" comes with it, why is the style not styled? why is it just flat? if I wanted my hair flat I would of said flat iron it please.. no I want to look beautiful when I walk out, not like everyday me.
