We made a reservation at this motel for last Thursday and Friday. My husband spoke with a man at the bar and he took our reservation. He was annoyed that we called a few days before our arrival, and he made it very clear that he was annoyed. My husband asked if he could pay in advance with a credit card, and he said no, I've got you down. We drove three hours to the motel and when my husband went in to pay and get the keys, the same person that he made the reservation with said that we were not on the list. He was very shallow in his response that we weren't on the list, and didn't seem to care at all. We have stayed at this motel for the last several years during hunting season. Our usual camping spots were all on fire so we decided to explore somewhere new & give Featherville & the Trinities a shot. We wanted to camp, but we hadn't been to the area before & it was supposed to freeze/rain so we booked here instead. The motel has no website, only a Facebook profile (the link on Facebook is a scam because they lost their web domain). You can only call to make reservations, which, ok ... in retrospect it's obvious why they wouldn't bother with a website - they don't have to. This place is really the only restaurant/bar/market/motel option in the immediate area, so of course they can charge whatever. $100/night for a room is easily 2-3x what it's "worth," but it was clean/comfy enough. $10 for a $4 frozen pizza at the bar was the only food option since the cafe was closed, so when you call ask if the cafe is open or bring your own meals! Also $10 pet fee, which is kinda hilarious considering there were dogs running all through/around the bar. The gruff lady on the phone was just as gruff in person. She seemed annoyed to have to deal with other people, but there weren't many others around during the day so presumably she's the one stuck doing *everything*. The other bar staff in the evening were friendly enough. It's a very "local" place (literally the only one) so it's not really for tourists anyway - was full of locals with their dogs, who were far more open to being friendly to strangers. The "cafe/market" next door was covered in right-wing political banners that didn't make much sense, and it was closed for remodeling (no doubt also Biden's fault). Relatively tame though & as expected. The room had some issues - exposed wiring where the A/C connected (they just shoved a chair in front of it). All the lights flickered & the smoke detector had been ripped off the wall and was missing. The shower head wasn't properly attached so it shoved back into the wall, and the faucet knob was installed upside-down so you could scald yourself if you turn it to "cold" & aren't paying attention. Not kid-safe or code-compliant. It all had a very half-assed "DIY" feel (which maybe it was after the fires a few years ago?). Otherwise the bathroom was clean & worked fine. Water was clean. Fridge & microwave worked & were clean. The sheets/blankets were clean & the bed was comfortable. DirectTV was nice. Note there is no WiFi internet and no AT&T cell reception (maybe Verizon is better - often is in these areas). This was a plus & nice to "unplug" for a while. This was a perfectly fine $35/night room they charge 3x as much for even in the off season. There were also only 2 guests in the 10-room motel during our stay, but for some reason they put us in adjacent rooms so we could all be annoyed by each other's snoring, TV, etc. The trashcans outside all the rooms were full & hadn't been emptied in days if not longer. Had to laugh at the "Snowmobile" map & schedule on the back of the motel room door - I think it was from like 2005. This is a place that happily chooses to live in the past. read more

We were rented a room with no working toilet, spent a day with no electricity, and because of a family emergency we had to leave a day early and they still charged us for that day we did not stay, nor have we received compensation for having to drive to a campground porta-potty. Ah, the beloved Featherville Saloon. I can't believe (although somehow I really can) that I am the first to put anything down here. It doesn't seem right somehow, as I don't live nearby (yet!). I have spent many a blissful night at the in-laws' cabin just a 5-minute walk away, and a good deal of those were also spent catching up on local events while having a beer at the Featherville Saloon. How else am I going to learn of the ever-changing politics of the Water Board, or just how much Lloyd has been driving around on his little gray tractor ("makin' things flat!"). Life in Featherville to me is life without Twitter, Facebook, TV, and radio, and the saloon is the welcome substitute for all of those things. Certainly those things are available here, and the increasing number of huge McCabins being built in the area have all those luxuries, and their inhabitants will undoubtedly soon permanently alter the landscape of Featherville and the saloon. So while you can, enjoy the simple pleasure of hanging out in the no-frills, friendly Featherville Saloon. Shoot some pool, put some money in the jukebox, and enjoy a cheap beer or cocktail while checking in on the latest news. read more

My wife and I broke down on the mountain near Trinity Lakes and caught a ride down to the Featherville Saloon with our dog Athena. We had to wait over two hours for a tow truck from Mt Home. Everyone was great and they allow dogs inside! Drinks and great food. Thanks for the hospitality! read more

I was 13. went back in 2001 with a friend from here in austin. spent 5 nites in the woods just outside feartherville. a jewel of a place and I pray the august 2012 fires don't destroy a paradise. read more
