This the third time I have requested Richard to help me with my roofing needs. I needed new fascia boards and anew roof for may detached garage. I got a fair price and great service. The tear out crew, the material delivery and reroofing labor was well coordinated by FBR and done efficiently. Most contractors arrive at the work place 15 -30 minutes late but FBR crew came to my house before the assigned time each day and finished the reroofing of my detached garage earlier than promised. I decided after living in my home for many years, and the recent windstorm in the Southern CA valleys, that my roof finally needed a makeover. I obtained 4 estimates, and was told by all of them that I needed the plywood base for the roof, as I guess roofs on older homes weren't necessarily built with them. Federal Building & Roofing actually came in with the lowest bid, so I decided to go with them, as I saw they had good ratings here. The team started promptly on the scheduled start date and got a lot of work done the first day, tearing off and hauling away the old roof and clearing out the debris. Richard left me samples of the Timerline Natural Shadow shingles on the first day, and I had up until the afternoon of the 2nd day to decide on a color. The 2nd day was the sheeting inspection from the city, so not much happened that day. On the 3rd day, most of the shingling, the 2 dormer vents, and 2 attics fans were installed, with only 1 side of the house remaining. On the 4th day, the remainder of the roof was completed. And I write this on the 5th day, when the final inspection is to occur. Richard Griego is the person who gave me the estimate, and he's also the person who I have contact with on any questions and progress on the job. He's very professional and extremely responsive. We exchange emails and phone calls daily. I had complete confidence that he would get the job done in a timely and high quality fashion. The shingles he installed were the Timberline Natural Shadow 30-year life in Barkwood. I love the color! I am glad I went with this color as the darker contrast is nice against the cream color stucco of our house. The pictures in the brochures do not do it justice. read more

Apart from the fact that they solicited me to write reviews on multiple sites for a gift card (look, I would pay *you* $50 to never have to eat at Chili's or Macaroni Grill), these guys were professional, efficient, on time, and fairly reasonably priced. I've dealt with a lot of contractors and home repair places this past year - Richard was among the easiest to deal with. Richard came out, inspected the roof, as well as where it was leaking indoors. He gave us a competitive estimate: but, most of what happened was that he took the time to answer my questions, and help me understand what really happens on any roof, and on my tile roof in particular. So, we hired him and his crew: in about 7-8 days, they had removed all of the old roof, repaired the underlayment (?) and rebuilt the batten system, and laid the tiles. The tile removal was meticulous: they preserved about 90% or more of the existing tiles, such that what you see of the roof is only the old tiles, and where they positioned the new tiles--which look completely different (you should expect this!)--is not visible at all. All of which is to say: We don't have any leaks, and the roof is beautiful. A very clean crew, and they tidied up at the end of every day, plus organized themselves for starting the next day's work. Richard at Federal Building Roofing was recommended by us to the real estate agent who helped us buy our house. We needed an entire re-roof. The old roof was one layer of asphalt shingles over the original wood shake, which meant they had to tear everything off and start with new sheeting. We were very happy with the work that they did. Their quote was very reasonable and a few little add-ons we requested were done just at the cost of the parts itself. They cleaned up their mess at the end of each day which meant we didn't feel trapped in our house for the week. Any time I called Richard with a question or issue he responded quickly. I like to get recommendations from family and friends as I shop. Richard came highly recommended by our Realtor (she has gotten us good workers in the past), who has used his company for multiple jobs. He was quick to respond to my request for a quote, and discussed all aspects of the job thoroughly, and the price was fair, and messages were promptly returned. His crew started and ended the job at the agreed upon dates, and he had a big crew of company workers, not just laborers hired from a parking lot. I appreciated that his crew left the worksite clean on a daily basis (we have little kids), and they swept the yard for nails before they left. I hate spending money on projects like a roof (would rather take a vacation), but I have no regrets having this work done on my house, it looks great, and he even took care of all the permit hassle. I live in Rialto and I was getting tired of sweeping up pounds of asphalt shingle pieces every time the wind blows down the Cajon pass. After this last years rain with no leaks I rather thought I was pushing my luck on this 28 year old roof. My first experience with Federal Building & Roofing Inc. was when they were referred to me by the manufacture of a solar vent I bought at Costco. Once they arrived, I was greeted by the owner Richard, and his helper. He inspected the location where I wanted it installed, which happened to be where I had an existing vent. I didn't want to add another hole in the roof but doing so required Richard to purchase shingles to match my existing one because the old vent was under multiple layers of roof. The additional cost was reasonable. Richard and his worker were both in the attic and roof installing the solar vent. He made sure everything was working properly and explain the monitor it came with. Before he left, I ask for a quote to reroof my sister's garage and storage area behind it. He followed me there and gave me a quote I felt was so reasonable, I agreed to the price. Within 2 weeks his crew was at my sister's house, once to meet the company delivering the shingles on the roof and again the next morning to install it. Not only was I impressed with their speed but the quality at well. They finished within 3-4 hours and were gone by noon. I had agreed to a new layer of roofing and underlayment, which they did a fine job with but they also added a new drip edge to match the color of the roof. His crew also did a nice job of cleaning up before they left. Richard came by about noon to check out and walk the roof. He wanted to make sure I was happy with the job before getting paid. I worked with Richard Griego who was referred by a realtor. While at my home he gave me a quote of $7975. All I needed was the actual proposal to sign and get back to him. When I got the proposal, the price was different. The proposal price was $8400, a $425 increase. His email said he forgot to include the fascia boards and some kind of "tails." I forget what he called them. This is what he does everyday. How could he forget to include the wood work?!?!? He blamed it on the heat. He meant this as a joke; but, I didn't see the humor in it. I am writing a second review because my first one has somehow disappeared. (Very mysterious, Yelp). I love, love, love my whole house fan. It saves me so much money on my energy bills. And I couldn't have asked for a better installer. FBR was referred to me by someone at work who had used them, and I'm so happy for the great referral. Richard came to the house and gave me a very no-nonsense bid. I didn't feel like he was trying to up sell any products I didn't need. He was very honest about the size fan we needed for the home, even though I have no idea what I'm looking at and he could have very easily sold me a more expensive unit, he didn't. As for the guy who complained about being solicited to write a review...since when is it a crime to ask for a good review? Jack in the Box offers two free tacos on their receipt for completing a survey, but Richard is a bad guy because he asks his happy customers for good reviews? And offers a gift card as a reward because he knows good reviews are important for business!? I don't see the harm done. read more
