they were late to installation without calling. they never called to follow up with the rest of the installation. After I called and left a message they never called me back. So I went to the store to talk to them but they lost all the information about my installation order. They don't own up to their mistakes and when I was leaving the owner asked me, "are you just wasting my time?" Funny, but there was another unhappy customer there while I was. 1/22/2025 Mark and two gentlemen arrived on time to install our ventless gas logs in our fireplace. The guys put drop cloths over our newly tiled floors, brought in their tools and the accessories and began work. They used a 3' long drill bit to bore a hole thru two block walls and natural stone lining our fireplace built in 1958. They simply don't build fireplaces like this nowadays. Since we didn't have a mantle we chose a 60" long concrete mantle that went with the design of our home. They ran the gas line and assembled the burner, logs and decorative rock. Afterwards they showed us how to operate the remote w/a thermostat and also showed us how to operate the system manually. These guys were friendly, professional and pleasant to visit with. They tidied up and were off to their next job. The process started at 8:10am and finished around 10ish. I would recommend you give them a call if you are interested in ventless gas logs. We are happy with the service and sitting next to the additional heat gazing at the fire is nice and cozy on this cold January day. read more

Had an issue with our fireplace gas line and called Federal Fireplace for service. It was also 5 years since they had installed our log set so requested service as well. Garrett provided the services and was highly professioanal. After bleading the gas line the issue was resolved and he then make a couple of adjustments and cleaned the igniter. Great to have our fireplace working properly again. read more

We had them replace our gas log system several years ago and the service was terrible. The installers took our old grate and logs without asking if we wanted them. The set they put in is poor quality and has never been easy to operate. It was the grandson of the original owner who I dealt with. I did call to ask for the log set when I realized they had taken it and was told, he didn't know what the installers did with it. I turned it on this year and it ran for a few minutes and the gas flame went out as well as the pilot. I won't bother to call them again, time to look for a safe well installed system. I will post this review anywhere I can in an effort to warn people against this dishonest business owner and employee. Peter is very eager to sell you a $2000 fireplace but once you leave the store you will never hear from him again. Peter sold us a broken fireplace just before closing his doors for the Corona Virus Pandemic. We tried for weeks to get in touch with Peter after he re-opened the store and he never ever returned a call, not even one phone call. I even left a note taped to the business door asking Peter to call me but he never did. My husband died waiting for Peter to call us back to fix the fireplace that Peter swore he would stand behind should there be any issues. The only person we were ever able to reach is Kirstin and she is very rude and unhelpful. She will even go as far as being dis-honest so as to NOT have to take responsibility for anything. I had to have the fireplace fixed by a 3rd party two times!!! Peter should be ashamed of himself and Kirstin should never be allowed to work with the general public. I am 100% certain that anyone posting a 5 star review and using Peter's name must be a personal friend or family member. I don't know how either of you sleep at night but I am sure my $2,000 purchase makes that a little easier for you. read more

It is the Saturday before Mothers Day. Prime time grill selling season. I drive across town to Federal because they are an authorized Broilmaster dealer. Their posted hours online are 10am-4pm. I arrived at 2:50 pm to find the door locked and lights off in the store, and a piece of paper taped to the door listing revised Saturday hours til 3pm. I looked thru the glass and saw an employee inside by the register. I knocked. He looked up, then quickly and consciously ignored me. I sat in my car outside the store in wonderment at how rude this man was. Sure enough, at 3pm on the nose he exited the store, relocked the door and made his way to a company truck, clearly done for the day. I will never, ever return to this business as selling product and servicing customers is clearly not as important as closing up shop early. Shameful. read more

The lady on the phone was helpful and courteous when I called initially. The technician called about an hour before he was set to arrive and said he could be there in 20 minutes. I had to race home and he waited for me to arrive. He came in, kicked his shoes off and got to work. He inspected and cleaned the entire fireplace. read more

I could not be happier with my experiences with Federal Fireplace. From the consultation as I was trying to make my decision (which was helpful and actually steered me away from some higher cost items), to the flexibility as I changed and added some features after the sale, to the installation service by Mark (and his partner, who's name I can't remember), everything was flawless. I changed from a 30 year old gas fireplace set to a more efficient version that lets me run the fireplace with the damper closed (with just a small gap). The logs are larger and more beautiful than my old set. They recommended and then painted the inside of the firebox to make the new log set (birch) pop. And, they were super helpful in choosing a set of glass doors (which I had not had before) that were beautiful but very good value. I'm happy to say my gas bill actually went down this past month, in spite of rising gas prices, thanks to this new system. Two thumbs way up for this company. read more

I want to give the saleswoman a 5 star rating as she did a great job walking us through the sale. She was very knowledgeable and helpful. That said, We spent $2,300 on a direct vent fireplace, vent kit, blower and t-remote in Nov 2022. Installation went well with all parts and passed a permit inspection but the remote control kit we paid $195 for was broken and would not work. Took it back to the store and was told it was "broken" (yes which is why I am returning it) and the gentleman working there suggested my contractor broke it and then offered to sell me another $195 remote. He was curt and would not even entertain the idea it was defective. Very disappointed to say the least. Will be contacting the manufacturer directly to get resolution. Sadly will not be recommending Federal Fireplace now because of how badly this was handled. Unfortunate because up to this point I had been a satisfied customer. read more

I scheduled a fireplace repair on my gas fireplace and all they accomplished was lighting the pilot light. I told them that the pilot light was not the issue but that's what they charged me $175 for. They said it might be the pilot assembly and they were trying to wait for a part. After over a month and a few phone calls, no response to this issue and no call back. I ended up going with another company that came out the first time and fixed the problem with the right parts. I will NOT recommend this company to anyone for service read more

Simple advice - if you make an appointment with a customer do not call them 40 minutes prior and try to reschedule because you have are overbooked. I simply go to the competitor who keeps their appointment and values my business. If you go to their showroom, you will see that they are not very organized and that reflects in their work. read more

The owner was rude and tried to show me the door when I tried to ask for different options of a faulty fireplace system that HE had sold me. I've given Federal so much time and energy. The original fireplace was ordered incorrectly, it took weeks to get it ordered correctly-not sure why they could not have expedited this shipment as it was ordered incorrectly by them. Then they came to install and scratched the front. Then we noticed damage to the inside brick. So, now we have multiple damaged pieces. They promptly came out and said it is all under warranty-I'd hope so as it was a week old. They then said they would re-order all of the pieces, ok, sounds good. This was before Thanksgiving. I've gotten no follow-up calls, no emails, no updates. The only time I've heard anything at all is when I call them, and it's just another delayed response; "oh I just got an email about your order", or, "we just received a tracking number". I cannot understand why you wouldn't want to update your customer regarding their order, especially when they're purchasing a $4K unit. I'm not asking for a lot, and we've been extremely patient with this company, however, their lack of urgency, and complete disregard to our time is very frustrating. It's not like I have anything better to do other than call Federal Fireplace every 2 weeks. Not-to-mention, I have called 3 times now asking to speak with Pete the owner and have never received a call back. There has been no sympathy given to our case as well, all of this came about because of their mistake and faulty installation, not only have we been waiting for the slowest shipping I've ever heard of (you'd think if you ordered something wrong, you would eat the expedited shipping costs to ensure customer satisfaction-nope) but also, they haven't even mentioned a discount on our order or installation. I hope to return the unit to them and go with another provider. I would urge anyone looking for a fireplace to go somewhere that at least pretends to take care of their customer. read more

Nice place until it comes time for service. Plan on replacing all of your own parts and doing your own service if something goes wrong. $5766.40 for a fireplace that worked for one month. Then they refer you to the manufacturer to help you diagnose your problems by emails. They then send parts to the dealership which happened to be 40 miles away and you pick them up from there as you are expected to pick them up and replace yourself as we are out of their "service area ". Each time the suggested part comes from the manufacturer plan on a trip to the dealership to pick up and replace yourself. Plan on being able to diagnose with a volt meter to read different readings on various wires after removing all of the logs in their specific locations and side panels to get to the brain of the fireplace. I have had two separate heating and cooling companies out to try and resolve problems at my expense and still they cannot figure out. Beware you are your own service tech and expected to fix your own fireplace but they will however send parts to the dealership for you to pick up there. Poor way to run a business. read more

My wife and I went in to look at replacing our see-through fireplace. We already had a very competent installer from their store come to our house and confirm that our 20-year-old unit was in need of replacement. After spending 45 minutes in the store and deciding on a unit, we placed a deposit and were excited about our purchase. Please note that we showed pictures of our existing see-through fireplace to the owner Pete at the time of our purchase. We received a call a couple weeks later from the installer who fortunately checked the contents of the unit the morning of the installation prior to coming to our house. Not only was it the wrong log set, it was not a two-way see-through set up. The owner then called me a few days later and left a message that they did not know it was a see-through unit and we had to pay more money to get what we wanted. There was no apology and no acknowledgement of the fact that we clearly showed him pictures at the time of the order. Mistakes do happen, being a business owner myself, all we expected was an apology and certainly not a message saying that we owed a couple hundred more dollars because of their mistake. Apparently that was too much to expect from the owner. We took our business elsewhere. read more

My wife and I had a horrible experience with this company. We live in commerce twp and we renovated our entire house. We added two fireplaces in the house and we tried to use local businesses as much as we could. We meet with them about 5-6 times looking at a bunch of different options, we even had them out to our house 2-3 times to make sure they saw where we wanted everything and make sure we got fireplaces that fit and we would not have any issues when it came to install. We spent just about 10k with these guys on 2 fireplaces. Once they shipped and there installer showed up to look at the job, he found several issues that were not caught on the two walk through prior to buying the units. We also found out we would have to spend an additional 10k in modifications and finish work to make the fireplaces actual work and stay up to code. When I called to express my concerns and displeasure with this, they told me to go find someone else to do the install and they no longer wanted to do business with me. So basically, they sold me the product and then walked away from me the minute I had any questions or issues. I have been in the building industry since 1998 and this is the worst company I have ever dealt with. I would call American fireplace in ferndale or Brighton stone in Brighton, don't give this guy a dime of your money. read more

It seems to be a family business or at least the people working there sure know an awful lot about fireplaces, installation and the pros and cons.
