Good work but could be better with customer service on the phone. I started with a 1 star but they called and apologized so I can move on.

The entire team at Detroit city sweep Is awesome. From…read moreupdating, maintaining and servicing 3 fireplaces in a historic home to helping us vent our kitchen stove in our hearth the entire team from quoting to scheduling to actual work has been wonderful to work with. The first thing I noticed right away is they actually answer their phone when they call so that was already a plus for me. I was able to schedule an estimate quickly and get someone out to help us address our main issue which was our kitchen not venting correctly, in addition to a fireplace that we would soon need because of the cold Detroit winter. As a new homeowner, we did want to make sure that the fireplaces were in good working condition before we actually started using them so we requested a estimate on what the service and maintenance could potentially be for the fireplaces that we had in our house and any recommendations that they would have. The process was very straightforward. They easily walked us through the quote and what was needed and why, in addition to what the current condition of the fireplace was in to what would need to be done and how it would fix the problem as well as what comes after the service what could be expected what they would be able to help us with should we come across any hiccups after the fireplace maintenance and what warranties came with the products that we purchased. We purchased dampers some gas fire logs, and had our fireplaces updated so that we could use them last winter. From there coming this winter, we assumed that we would have to have the fireplaces serviced again because it was a new year, though we only had a handful of fires in the living room fireplace they scheduled the appointment. They were prompt and scheduling, as well as coming out for service and transparent enough to say we haven't used our fireplace enough to fully warrant a cleaning. This was refreshing to see this type of honesty from a contractor. Then we ended up having an issue with the smoke coming into our house on our serviced fireplace. They were able to address solve an analyze, the reasons why the smoke was coming in to our living room, though everything looked up-to-date and ready to go. It was next level problem-solving skills that they would rarely run across because of the unique fireplace that we had in our Historic house. It was very appreciated that they did not just give up and ask us to spend a gazillion dollars to throw money at a problem. I highly recommend Detroit City sweep for the professionalism the availability, and of course, the quality of the work.

Very happy with the workmanship, attention to detail and friendly communication throughout the process.

Then he walked away. I stepped outside and closed my dogs inside. The man was getting in his truck. I stood on my porch and asked him if he was leaving? He said he was. I explained to him that I had no mask and needed room to step out. Advised him there was a pandemic going on and needed the distance. He said that he misunderstood. I advised him my wife was getting over cancer and that I still needed to maintain a safe environment for her. At that point advised him that I would put the dogs away and he would have access directly to the fireplace through our front door. When the work was over I took a look up the flue of the chimney. As you can see in the pictures that the flu liner past the damper is still filled with loose objects hanging off of the inside. When I approached the man about it he became irritated and hostile. I advised him that I would be giving him a terrible review. At that point he called me out of my name calling me a dick, fat bitch, and the terrible word CUNT. At that point I told him that he was a dick and that I would be stopping payment on the check. He kept cursing me out of my name to the point that I told him to get off my property. tl;dr - was a sh*tshow working with this company, fighting amongst themselves like school kids and…read moreat one point potentially putting my family in danger, then ignoring my concerns about the danger. Would not recommend using this company. Using this company was an adventure I would not wish upon anyone. It started in July, 2025 when we reached out and ultimately received a quote to have a ventless gas log fireplace installed and repair work to the chimney. In September my wife and I moved forward with this company, scheduled to start on 10/30/25. On that morning I received an email they had the wrong items for the install and would need to reschedule. Work was rescheduled for 11/12/25. On 11/12, two workers arrived close to noon, despite a scheduled arrival time of 0800-0830. The ventless fireplace was installed that day. However, no work was done on the chimney itself, in part because these two workers stated the work they believed was needed was significantly more than what they were told based on the quote we had been given. They gave several options on what they believed would be necessary, including taking the chimney down at the roof line. On 11/13/25 I reached out to the company informing them of the interaction of the previous day. I also asked for an itemized quote, separating the masonry work from the ventless fireplace installation, which I never received. I was told that Jim, the employee who gave the initial estimate, was out until 11/21. On 11/21, Jim came out. Long story short, he stood by his original assessment of the masonry work needed on the chimney. However, he went on to disparage his fellow employees, stating they didn't know what they were talking about, how dare they disagree with his quote, he's the expert with X years of experience, etc. It was like listening to a junior high kid talking about a rival. Complete lack of professionalism. So, we are moving forward with the same work as initially planned, just delayed. Now to have that work rescheduled. On 12/5/25, we reached out to the company to followup on when the work might be completed. We were told winter weather made the outdoor work impossible. While understandable, our house was losing heat as the chimney was open. Having the chimney capped was part of the expected work. Alternatively, they offered to install a flue inside to control loss of heat. Eventually, on 1/8/26, they came out and capped the chimney. However, after the workers left, one of them called my wife to admit that he noticed the ventless gas fireplace was improperly installed and should not be used, as the wrong logs had been used and due to the improper fit had the potential to release dangerous fumes into the house. He seemed surprised that whoever installed it was not aware of the error, as the logs fit in a specific manner. I was also surprised to hear this, as there had already been a delay due to the wrong item/parts being ordered by the company. After having the wrong parts once, wouldn't they be doubly sure. Company was contacted and an email was sent on 1/15/26 stating among other things reiterating concerns about the safety issues of this error. However, those concerns were ignored, as in they were never addressed in any response from the company. Kudos to that employee though for having the integrity to call my wife and notify us of the potential danger. On 1/16/26, a worker came out and replaced the logs of the ventless fireplace. Once the weather warmed, the chimney work was completed on 5/1/26. Once I had an accurate invoice I promptly made payment, while also notifying I would be submitting honest reviews relaying my experience with this company's scheduling issues, lack of professionalism, and the dangerous installation. In response, I did receive an email saying they were available via phone call on 5/4/26 to discuss the job issues. However, I was preparing for a work trip, and saw no reason to talk about these issues now, when they were largely ignored by them throughout the process.

The service technicians are polite, efficient, on time, and clean up well after completing service. Today's inspection by Jeramie was no exception; he did a great job. It's been my experience that they give those who have used their services previously a free inspection if you want to know if you need another cleaning yet. I believe they provide good quality service and good value.
