Geat park for the kids .. .. the view is amazing ...the people that live there not so nice. They huddles amongst themselves and moved their children away from mine but nonetheless we stayed and had the entire gorgeous park to ourselves. It's a really cool place to checkout, especially if you have kids. My kids loved the playground/park. It's definitely nice having a different view of the harbor. There's street parking, which there was plenty. The only huge con is that there is no bathrooms to use. read more

This park has always been a favorite of our family. It offers the most iconic views of the Inner Harbor of Baltimore, which we enjoyed seeing today. You might think that this is a small park, but it encompasses over 10 acres of land. The parks has two monuments - one is dedicated to U.S. Senator and Maj. General Samuel Smith; another, to Lt. Colonel George Armistead, who was commander of Fort McHenry during the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812. Cannons that once were at Fort Federal Hill during the Civil War are on the serene promenade overlooking the harbor. The park is truly a Baltimore landmark. You will find park benches for seating and picnicking as well as a playground, basketball court, and Flag Staff Plaza. In addition to driving up to the park, you can access it by regular bus service as well as the Charm City Circulator. An interesting fact is that park has several tunnels and passageways beneath it. In the 1800's, the cool tunnels and passageways provided excellent storage for the wooden kegs of beer crafted by the many local brewers that once operated nearby. read more

Came here on a Sunday because I wanted to see up close and personal the flag on top of the hill, which like previous reviewers said, is a huge flag with 15 stars instead of the typical 50 that we see today. While I wasn't expecting much when I came, I ended up getting a nice panoramic view of Baltimore from the top, namely the Inner Harbor. There's plenty of open spaces for kids to run around and play, for those of you with kids. The park itself is beautiful with plenty of green space which to be honest, looks out of place given the surrounding area. While here, I looked at the view while bikers and joggers went past me. There was a feeling of peace and serenity that I felt while here, especially on top of the hill where I could see the Inner Harbor. There's also a few cannons and some monuments to see. This is a nice park that both residents and visitors should check out. Just a word of warning- the way I ended up going to the top of the hill featured a lot of stairs. I'm sure there are other ways to go but I think they're biking/hiking trails that go uphill. Of course, this means that going down is a lot easier, since it's a downhill trek. It's also within walking distance from several attractions, including what I'm sure is the kid-friendly Maryland Science Center (I didn't go inside but I did see from the outside that there's a few stuffed dinosaurs), the Inner Harbor and it's attractions and the American Visionary Art museum. Further down from the American Visionary Art museum is the Baltimore Museum of Industry. Again, I cannot stress this enough- this is one of the places to visit in Baltimore especially if you have kids who have way too much energy and you can't keep up. read more

Fed Hill Park is a great little spot to enjoy sweeping views of the inner harbor, to watch the sunset, or to just stroll around. There's plenty of things to do nearby, whether its great coffee shops or the volleyball courts below. read more

What a view! This park is great to take out of town guests or to get an amazing view of the city. The park over looks the Inner Harbor and Rash Field and is makes for some stunning pictures of the city. On any given summer day, there's always someone having a picnic or walking their dogs. The kids and I had a great time here today. Boats were sailing, helicopters were flying, the siddity were eyeing. lol. No, it was all love. With the clear blue skies and the rolling cumulus clouds, today was so the perfect day to have a bird's eye view of the harbor! It may have been nice to have someone come and clean the dog poop out of the trash cans. I could smell it 10 feet away. But no complaints....i'd much rather smell it in the trash than on the shoes of my unsuspecting child! There's a park there that now has a SANDBOX!!! Now I know the person who thought this up probably feels like the savviest person ever, but unfortunately this mama has to differ. I do not want to tend to sand in the oddest of places for the next week just because I went to a park! And this is besides the bigger issue of germs that flourish in sand. Ring worms give me the eeby jeebies!!!! If I want sand I will go to the beach or other places one suspects sand. So I had to be the uncool mom for a minute....a week, sand free was worth it! Love Federal Hill. Go. Take the kids. Even jump in the Sandbox! Just don't look for me there ;) read more

What a great spot in town! There are a ton of steps to get up here (off Battery Ave to the west), but the view is worth it! I climbed up both at night and in the day. It's a popular place for locals running the steps or doing various exercise. There's a playground at the very top too. Benches line the north of the hill that looks over the city. From there you can get great pictures and panos. Also you can see the Domino Sugar sign on the east. Super easy access right off the free Charm City Circulator Banner Route. If you're just here to take pictures you should be able to pick the same bus up again as it returns from the eastern end of the line, Fort McHenry. read more

Great park! The steps up are well worth the view. Parking in the area is metered 24/7. I don't know what took me so long to visit this park but I'm glad I finally did. It was clean and has playground equipment for the kids. read more

A beautiful view of the Harbor, and a very historic hill/park. I have been coming to Baltimore all my life, about once per summer on avg, and just visited this place at age 25. I was impressed with the view and how close it is to the harbor. You can easily walk to this hill from the Harbor and make it a quick 30 min. experience. Or you can sit on the hill and enjoy yourself for the day, since it's so nice. Especially on a good weather day! read more

The Federal Hill area as well as this park is my favorite area of Baltimore. It's not as touristy as the Inner Harbor but is a super quick walk to get to. The park is simple and on the smaller side but it's not tiny, it offers perfect views of the harbor, and was very clean, and is right by the American Visionary Museum. Unlike the reviewer who had his car window broken, I didn't find this area to be shady or dangerous feeling at all, in fact if you'd like to explore the Federal Hill area more (as you should) checkout the streets to the southwest of the park (all the little side streets leading up to the main store/bar lined streets like Light St and Charles St). read more

As plenty of others have said the view from up here is one of a kind. One night a number of years ago I went to the top of Federal Hill shortly after a big thunderstorm went through the area and just watched lightning off in the distance. On nights like that it's hard to find a better place in Baltimore. You do want to be aware of your surroundings if you're here after dark, but that applies to any place in the city. read more

I love to come here on Sunday afternoons and choose one of the benches overlooking the harbor. A great place to relax and have a snack or a drink (I've seen a lot of people picnicking on the lawn). An absolute must-visit location when traveling to Baltimore, and an excellent asset to those of us who reside in SoBo. This is park has it all: a gorgeous skyline view, benches and plenty of lawn space for picnicking, a playground for the kids, and the historic steps make for a great challenge for those looking for some exercise. It plays host to lots of neighborhood events during the My only knock on this place is that later at night there are always reports of crime in the area, but that's more reflective of Baltimore/city living than the park itself. What am absolute joy to have this park in the neighborhood. All the friendly, and might I say attractive, dog walkers bring their pooches to Patterson to see and be seen. If you're looking for a little slice of green in our urban paradise, look no further. There are sports fields, running tracks, an ice rink, playgrounds for the kids, a neat community pool for staying cool in the summer heat. This place is less a city park and more an amusement park! The summer concerts and weekend festivals are a lot of fun for not a lot of money. And Patterson Park is now famous , as it is where several scenes from a recent episode of the HBO series Veep wee shot. Come to Patterson Park, you'll be glad you did! read more

Federal Hill was occupied by the Union Army in 1861 to destroy the secessionist movement in Maryland. Many of the other Southern States had seceded from the Union and once neighboring Virginia left, Maryland seemed sure to follow. The United Stated army was called up to come South and stop the rebellion. Northern troops battled many angry citizens of Baltimore at Camden Station. The soldiers, from Massachusetts, indured insults as well as stones and bottles being hurled there way. The 6th Massachusetts regiment had to march a few blocks to switch trains to continue on to Washington, D.C. After the crowd blocked their way, the soldiers opened fire on the citizens. Shots were returned by the now violent Baltimoreans and the troops quickly loaded on the next train to the capitol. In the end about a dozen people were killed, both Federal soldiers and Marylanders. The first blood of the Civil War had just been shed. Maryland's governor, Thomas H. Hicks, sent a message to the newly sworn-in president, Abraham Lincoln, not to send any more Northern soldiers trough Baltimore. Many companies of armed Marylanders burned bridges leading south from Pennsylvania. In response to this, Lincoln placed the city of Baltimore and the entire state of Maryland under martial law. On the 5th of May U.S. General Benjamin F. Butler, with two regiments and a battery of artillery, took possession of the Relay House, about seven miles from the city, and fortified this position. On the night of the 13th of May, during violent thunder-storm , Butler entered Baltimore and took possession of a hill with a commanding view of the harbor. He aimed his artillery at the city, prepared to open fire if Baltimore continued to defy the Federal Government. It seemed strange to me that the monuments were to men who fought in the War of 1812, and no mention of the Federal occupatin forces stationed there could be found. There are Monuments to Confederate Soldiers and Saliors, the Confederate Women of Baltimore, as well as a monument to General Robert E. Lee and General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson in other parts of Baltimore city. A Civil War museum located in near by Little Italy makes only breif mention to an important era in American history. The first Southern blood of the War Between the States was shed right here in Maryland. read more
