Never send anything by Federal Express to me! My dad sent me a package for new years. It was supposed to arrive on Friday 23 December. The next day I was headed out of town, so I stayed home and by the door all day. I checked the door every 30-60 minutes just in case. At one point I see the door tag, ten minutes old. The doorbell was silent all day, and noone had knocked. I even tested the doorbell and it worked fine. I immediately called them and they fed me some line about how it is humanly impossible to contact the drivers for a redelivery. They also said that because it is in the driver's interest to deliver the package on one trip, there is NO WAY the driver would not have rung the bell. Best interest or not, it didn't happen. Plus right before a holiday, I imagine people want to just breeze through and go home. The guy on the phone did not care and could do nothing for me, just said to wait until Tuesday. Tuesday comes, same thing happens. No knock, no bell, just a tag. And again on Wednesday, the final attempt. I call again and cuss them out, but all they can do is have it routed to a Kinko's on Harlem. Fine whatever. I'm also informed that a deliver attempt was made on Saturday the 24th, when I didn't even get a doortag. The delivery guy clearly was not trying. Anyway, the guy on the phone says it's all set, and I can try Thursday evening. I call the Kinko's at noonish, and they have no record of it being routed to them. WTF! I call FedEx back, and they also see no record of any rerouting. So ridiculous! This guy gives a glimmer of hope in that I can stop by the FedEx delivery center in McCook by 7PM. I say fine and rush over to get this debacle over with as soon as possible. This is not what you may expect. There is no customer waiting area like at a UPS facility. There are huge trucks everywhere, and no trespassing signs even by the visitor lot. The only accessible building is a guard shack with metal detectors for all the employees and big signs telling them not to bring guns there. So glad I had my toddler with me. Mind you don't go past the gate, just hang out in a 5' by 5' spot between the door and the metal detector. I had to sign in, call the office, and wait for someone to come with a package. I mean, if you're desperate, sure, but wow. Makes whatever issues the USPS has look like nothing. Avoid this whole mess, and choose another shipping company. read more

This review is based on my customer experience picking up a package at THIS distribution center and not the FedEx home delivery service that was awful and resulted in me needing to use this facility. This facility is located in the ElectroMotive McCook business park. It can be accessed from any street off of 55th between Joliet road and East ave. Once in the business park it's easy to find the facility by looking for all the FedEx trucks. Upon arriving at this FedEx facility there are specific signed customer package pick-up parking spots to use. You pick up your package from the security shack next to the parking spot you just used. You will use the black phone just inside the door to contact the employee who is responsible for bringing your package from the massive distribution center to the security shack. The wait time for me was twelve minutes and considering the logistics here I found that acceptable. The employees in the security shack are pretty busy scanning FedEx employees in and out of the facility and monitoring the gate and FedEx trucks entering and leaving. They were cordial to me and answered my questions. The employee that answered my call from the black package phone was the same person who biked my package from the distribution center to the security shack. This woman was super friendly and perfect for the job she has being one of the very few employees at this facility that ever come in contact with an outside customer. She had me sign for the package after checking my ID and I was on my way. I wouldn't hesitate to use this pick-up option again if the FedEx home delivery system fails me. read more

FedEx allows customers to click on a "Customize Delivery" link, included in their email notifications. Customers are given an option to "Provide Delivery Instructions," which I used stating where to find my building door, what number to call, and that no doorbell is available. On the delivery day, the driver failed to follow instructions. The driver posted the delivery note on my neighbor's door, stating that I was not available. I filed a complaint over the phone after being placed on hold multiple times, speaking to multiple representatives, a process that spanned over 30 minutes. An insincere apology was offered, but no compensation provided. On the day the package was to be redelivered, Jeff Okoneski from FedEx called to provided an "apology." He stated that the driver did not receive or see any message on the door. I informed Jeff of the "Customize Delivery" and personalized delivery instructions prompted by the email sent by FedEx. Jeff responded that drivers do not usually call customers. I responded by stating that it is for that reason I wrote specific instructions to call. Jeff responded by stating, "What if the driver didn't have a phone?" I proceeded to facepalm. This is not the ideal way to reconcile customer relations after failing to provide timely, efficient and reliable service. Furthermore, sending your employees to deliver important packages without a line of communication is unacceptable in the year 2017. In addition, using the alias "Jeff "Okie" Okoneski," bass guitarist of the American sledge metal band Crowbar, is down right unprofessional. In the end, due to FedEx's unreliable service, I am here now writing this review to stay awake after working the graveyard shift in order to receive my package. read more

FedEx delivered a package the day after a week long vacation hold was placed on the delivery and left a new bed on the front door of Chicago apartment with no signature. As stated no one was at the location to accept as noted by the vacation hold. Terrible process with no accountability! read more

Dont use fedex they will not knock on your door and just assume you arent home. I waited all day with the tv off just to make sure i wasnt going to miss my shipping and they didnt even knock or anything just left another slip. Called them 8 times and spoke with melinda who couldnt get a hold of the driver and the driver manager bc they use contract drivers to save money. Finally after 3 hours she says the driver is back but wont leave . Which was what i was afraid of. She told me i could pick it up here and i live in chicago. Worst service ever!!!!!! I too waited all day at home for a FedEx package (with no estimated delivery time on the website other than by the end of day). But the delivery guy apparently did not try my buzzer or call me NOR did he have the courtesy of leaving a note on my door that he had been here. I had to go into the tracking system to read that "the customer was unavailable". Really?! I've been waiting all day for that package. Now the only way for me to get that package is to drive all the way over to La Grange, at least an hour away, and the package won't be there until 6:30pm, but the office there closes at 8pm. The FedEx people refuse to give me a phone number to call for directions or to talk with someone if the package is indeed there (it is a mammoth facility). All of this to say, if I have the choice between FedEx and UPS, I will always choose UPS, because the drivers are courteous, actually attempt to get a hold of you in your apartment by ringing your buzzer or call you, AND leave a post-it note regarding when and how many times they will redeliver and contact information.
