I like Dr Feldman and his whole staff. He is very efficient, knowledgeable, and he has been established and comes with a lot of experience. I had a procedure ( facet block) with him, unfortunately it did not work. I was warned that it would be a hit or miss... I have been going to Dr. Feldman for the last five years. He is WONDERFUL and so is his staff! Becky his nurse is so sweet and caring and makes me feel like I'm at home. Dr. Feldman listens to what I have to say and we figure out what would work best for me. He did surgery on my torn meniscus in October 2020. It was the best experience! I am now seeing him for bad lower back pain, and he has given me relief that I haven't had IN YEARS! I won't go anywhere else and hope he never retires! I had the most catostrophic knee issues and Dr. Feldman tried to do his best with the situation. I was able to run with the right knee, but lost bone in the left knee due to a fracture. He did what was best and what I asked him to do even though her recommended otherwise. I saw another more experience surgeon in bone inujry and he reconstructed my left knee. The reconstruction was good but the scar tissue was not. Regardless, 2 fine surgeons did their best and I am still walking with my own knees. I will live into my 80s with my own knees. :) read more

If you ask for first appointment of the day, you get seen right away otherwise it might be an hour wait like normal offices. Everyone is really nice. Dr. Feldman will answer any questions or explain anything you ask. They X-ray and show you on the computer in the room. Parking is a little tight in the back, so you might end up with metered parking. Overall, clean, friendly, prompt, thorough. read more

I am a registered physical therapist in California for over 40 years and I just had a lumbar decompression diseconomy yesterday. For pain management prior to surgery, I tried everything from acupuncture, epidurals as well as many other methods to find relief, however, with no success. I was referred to Dr. Richard J Feldman MD at Saint Joseph Medial Center and as soon as he looked over my MRI, he immediately recognized my problem. I had a lumbar disc decompression L4 and L5 bilateral and S1 left. After meeting with him, I decided to go ahead and do the surgery, I had been hesitant about for 3 years. He came to see me the morning of surgery and clearly explained what he planned to do. The surgery took about 2 hour's and while I was in the recovery room I heard he came to my family to explain that the surgery had gone well and had reassured them. Dr. Feldman also suggested that, I stay one night in the hospital if I wanted to, so I decided to stay. He came early in the morning to my room to check on me and explained to me how successfully surgery had gone and gave me follow up instructions. During my overnight stay in the hospital, all employee's I encountered were professional and personable and made me very comfortable. I especially wanted to recognize the Preparation RN, Ms. Helma RN, surgery room, Joyce RN and the Anesthesiologist ( forgot name) whom were exceptionally kind and comforting. I highly recommend and suggest Dr Richard J Feldman if you have any Orthopedic or back problems both as a professional in the medical field and as his patient. read more

This review is overdue but I've been meaning to do one. I was recommended by my PCP to get a consult with Dr Feldman because my shoulder have been acting up for a good while. Dr Feldman is a great physician, very knowledgeable with good bedside manner. He spent a good amount of time to get a thorough diagnosis. All diagnostic tests ordered is by the book. I kept telling him to just do surgery to alleviate my pain because I had the same thing happened to my other shoulder but of course he has to make sure everything is checked out before any surgery is done. So, after cortisone shot didn't work, MRI was done. A month of physical therapy didn't do the trick. Surgery is the only option. He is an orthopedic surgeon and he does an excellent job. Took the time to prep me and my wife for the surgery and what to expect after. After 3 months of post surgery physical therapy my shoulder is now almost healed. I'm back to work and thanks to Dr Feldman's excellent skills I'm at 99.9-100% healed (depending in the weather). His office can get busy but usually he is available when I needed to see him. His staff are friendly, courteous and professional. I will wholeheartedly recommend his services. read more

I visited Dr. Richard Feldman today. He was great! I had broken my shoulder on March 15th. I tripped over a 26 lb dog. I was . 6 cm away from displacement. He has a wonderful bedside manner, not in a hurry where he treats you like you are an assembly line. He showed me my exrays off the computer in the exam room. He did not think I need surgery but ordered an MRI on my shoulder to rule out bone fragments. The staff was wonderful, the wait time minimal. read more

Horrible experience. After waiting for two hrs to be seen by doctor Feldman Richard J., he was very rude and couldn't care less of how I was feeling. He barely looked at the MRI, and yelled at me all throughout consultation; he couldn't see anything that could be fixed through surgical intervention, and was so dismissal of my pain. Saying it's in my head. He doesn't care to identify the cause of your pain if it's not surgical. I came out of consultation more confused and more concerned for my health. Dr. Feldman's experience, expertise, and patient bedside manner combined to change my life. I was referred to Dr. Feldman by my PCP because I was experiencing sciatica down both of my legs. Dr. Feldman suggested that I try several interventions before surgery. I tried 3 different chiropractic techniques, exercise and PT, and 3 horribly-painful cortisone injections to lessen the impact of my spinal stenosis, bulging discs, and herniated disc. When nothing helped my pain, and after missing 8 months of work, I agreed to surgery. I knew immediately upon waking from my surgery that I'd been given back my life -- the pain resulting from my surgery was nothing compared to the constant pain I had experienced for more than a year! Several years later, I can swim, hike for miles, sleep deeply, fly thousands of miles, drive, work in my yard, find items under my bed, and do so many things that I was unable to do before my surgery, without pain. This review is long overdue! Wonderful, amazing, kind, astute, a great listener. What else can I say? I was in a pretty bad car accident where my car was rear ended extremely hard. I had really bad whiplash aggravating an old compression fracture in my back. Dr. Feldman saw me a few times, gave good advice, ordered an MRI, explained the results very thoroughly and was very kind. When you tell someone how you are in a lot of pain and they actually listen and give you empathy it's such a comforting thing. I am not a wimp and when I say something hurts it REALLY hurts. I had a newborn baby who was only 3 months old and I was carrying a lot of pregnancy weight which I was self conscious about. Dr. Feldman told me to not be so hard on myself and enjoy my baby after I mentioned that the weight gain was probably not helping things. Sent me to take mri then ct scan then bone scan with places that he could have benefits with them. At my follow-up with Dr. Feldman, I was seen right away. The receptionist greeted me by name, though I had only been in once before. The tech quickly took an x-ray, I saw the nurse, and the doctor came in shortly after. Dr. Feldman answered all of my questions and his bedside manner was nice. What was really impressive was that he said he wouldn't need to see me again unless I had any issues. He didn't try to have me schedule unnecessary visits, and we've all been victims of that before. The entire staff was friendly, and I was in and out in about 30 minutes. It's nice to get good service, to feel like your business is important, and to not be taken advantage of. I also like that the office sponsors a little league team. It's nice that they have an interest in being involved in the community. read more

I went to this doctor a few years ago when i had Blue Cross insurance. I waited probably an hour before i saw Mr.Feldman. STAFF: . These people were constantly asking me questions about my job, my husband's job etc. I am well aware that some medical practices do that to find out how much services they can sell you but this one was way overboard. I mean even their NURSE asked me questions about me and my husbands jobs. Then i heard her telling their finance manager this information. Their finance manager was really odd as well. I don't know if that has something to do with her old age but she came across to me like someone who was not quite right in the head. She could not tell me the amount of my co-payment. Instead she was giving me some speeches about me being out of network patient, and that i have to pay something right now. When i asked her just give me the amount, she kept on with her weird speech about telling me in advance that i will have a co-payment. Finally she told me to pay $100 even. Overall i got an impression that these people were deadly afraid that i would not be able to afford their $100 co pay or i would not pay it. I don't know why. May be lots of people refuse to pay after waiting over an hour to see their arrogant rude doctor. DOCTOR: He did not help me with my problem at all. He also came across as very arrogant with a terrible bedside manner. My attempts to ask him questions irritated him immensely. I asked him a question and this person told me "What do you want from me?" (direct quote). He left me waiting in a room and went on to answer a personal phone call. I was sitting there and listening for a good 10 minutes to him talking about some personal matters with someone. I've been to a number of doctors. Some of them were not very good but i've never in my life experienced a doctor who would be talking to his friends on a phone in a middle of the patient's visit. read more

I've known Dr. Feldman for almost 24 years. He performed shoulder surgery on my late mom and herniated disc surgery on me in 1998. I've also seen him for other issues and injections. He's a great surgeon and a very caring guy. Yes, you will probably have to wait, so bring something to pass the time. He gives everyone the time they need. No one in his office has ever been anything but nice to me in almost a quarter of a century, but I've heard several patients get snippy with them. I'm officially a fan and would definitely return. I've seen a handful of orthopedic dr's in my life and they run the gamut of personal preference. He was referred to me by my PCP for a broken finger after several attempts to try and schedule with other orthos that my HMO kicked out and produced unsuccessful and frustrating attempts. But I feel like I got super lucky to get referred to Dr. Feldman. His front office staff is wonderful. I also liked the nurse. I saw some ppl here saying they had to wait a while, I didn't have that problem at all. In fact I was seen right away after filling out the usual (nothing excessive) new patient paperwork. But most importantly he's a Dr I feel comfortable with and one that I can trust, (doesn't try to push PT or Surgery on you like some do when it's not necessary). I think that orthopedic practice is both an art and science and it feels like Dr. Feldman gets that too. I would definitely go back to him for any ortho needs and am glad I found this dr with my new insurance. read more

If you have some localized pain and you are not cooperating with your body, Dr Feldman will give you his diagnosis and he may mention what you are or are not doing to help yourself. Many people deify doctors and truly believe they can work miracles. They fail to take responsibility for what they may be doing that makes their condition continue despite a doctor's educated diagnosis. I had severe pain in my hip and the x-ray showed bone spurs. Dr Feldman recommended a hip replacement but did not guarantee anything other than that I would probably feel a lot better. I had the surgery, all went well, Dr Feldman's confidence and cooperative, attentive bedside manner was comforting. What I knew to be true however, was that the extra weight I was carrying around would probably lead to a second surgery as all that "stuff" was affecting my bones, muscles, tendons, digestive tract - everything. I finally lost the weight (72 lbs) and because of a car accident, returned to see Dr Feldman. He was so happy for me, of course this weight loss made his job much easier but I felt he really celebrated my accomplishment. His manner changed ever so slightly as if to say, "She's willing to work on herself, I'm going to give her my help and expertise." That my friends, is a good doctor, remaining polite, does what he can but when he sees you have or are doing something to help yourself, he's going to put in the time and whatever necessary over-compensated assistance he can as he knows his time won't be wasted. He has the absolute blue-est eyes I've ever seen, takes good care of his body and health and knows his trade from head to toe (so to speak). Not flowery, not looking to be a sycophant or shower you with sympathy but he will give you his considered, scientific opinion from his years of experience then give you the option of accepting or rejecting it. I would like to start off by saying I had a huge back problem, 2 severely herniated discs in the lumbar region of my back. I had seen multiple Dr's before, one of which told me I was completely fine. I was eventually referred to Dr. Feldman because of the excruciating pain I was in. During my first visit Dr. Feldman knew immediately what was wrong. I was screaming in pain, and he knew exactly why I was in so much pain. At this point I had tried a ton of other treatments, Spinal Decompression, Oral steroids and even an epidural shot, the only other option that was left was a microdiscectomy. When I heard that it was my only option left to get rid of the pain I started panicking and almost started crying. Dr. Feldman immediately reassured me that this surgery was minimally invasive and that he had done it numerous times before. He explained every detail of the surgery during that first office visit. I felt a lot better knowing that this surgery would allow me to walk normally again and most of the pain would be gone. The insurance I had originally denied the surgery, but then he took time out of his busy schedule to write them a letter, telling them how much pain I was in, and that my only option at this point was surgery. 2 weeks later I'm the hospital getting prepped for surgery. I woke up after surgery feeling so much better, the pain was almost 95% gone. Aside from the actual incision pain, I felt SO much better. Dr. Feldman came by before and after the surgery to see how I was feeling. I appreciate everything he's done for me. I know a lot of people probably say this about their Dr's, but this guy saved my life, I would probably be a vegetable for the rest of my life, if I hadn't gotten the surgery. I can't express my gratitude enough. Even during my post op visits he's still as caring as he was before the surgery, his office and staff are awesome as well. I was referred to Dr. Feldman by my primary care physician because I have an acute, localized back injury that has been causing extreme pain for about 8 months. When I went in to see him, he looked briefly at the X-ray and MRI images but he wouldn't listen to me when I tried to explain to him what I was feeling, when it had started, where it was etc. He also didn't look closely at ALL my MRI images, he just flipped through the cross sectionals that start from the top. There was a vertical image there of the spine at length, that he did not even look at, where I had seen something strange at the T3, T4 vertebrae (which is, coincidentally where I feel the pain) and I wanted to point it out to him and ask about it but he wouldn't allow it. He didn't even examine my back and look at or feel the spot where the pain is and where my PCP has identified swelling and what feels to her like structural anomaly under the skin. He kept telling me the pain is in my shoulder blade, which it is not. I know where my shoulder blade is. The pain is to the direct left of my spine, mid-back, at T3/T4, precisely the area where they are telling me I have "maximum convexity of scoliosis". There is no reason for me to be feeling extreme acute pain there if all that I have is mild scoliosis that has always been there. Dr. Feldman refused to believe me that that was the actual location of my pain. He kept focusing on very mild peripheral symptoms that were not even the focus or reason for my visit (I.e Talking about random neurological phenomena in my left arm as if they were the reason for my visit, which they were not, just incidentals that got mentioned when speaking to the nurse. He kept referring to that as proof that I must not be experiencing what I am experiencing) and kept trying to tell me I have a pinched nerve in my shoulder or neck causing pain in my shoulder blade and symptoms in my arm. The problem is, I was not there because of symptoms in my arm, and I don't have any pain in my shoulder blade. I was there because of a specific location in my back that is causing extreme pain. He tried to tell me that I don't truly have pain where I am having the actual pain, that I have to be feeling it in my shoulder blade because he's pretty sure it's radiating from my neck into my shoulder blade and then traveling down my arm. I tried to explain to him again that that is not what I'm experiencing, I have no pain in my shoulder blade nor in my arm, but he got upset when I tried to explain that. (He feels so sure of that explanation because he has no idea what is actually going on with me and an issue like that, were it actually presented, would make sense to him. Unfortunately, that assessment has little to do with me or what I am actually feeling.) He wouldn't listen to my concerns or my explanation of the symptoms nor the circumstances that lead me to believe there is an injury that they are somehow not identifying on the images. In the past I have felt the kind of pain that radiates from a pinched nerve and I know for certain that is not what I'm feeling now. I know that what I'm feeling now is from an injury in a specific location. He outright yelled at me when I tried to ask questions and explain my concerns. He did not show the slightest ounce of empathy or understanding and made it pretty obvious that he didn't care to listen to me or to answer my question. He just waned to rush me through and get me out of the office. I don't know if he felt entitled to yell and to be disrespectful because I am female, because I am small, because I am young, or because I have (as he put it) "crappy insurance". But I would definitely not recommend being seen by him if you have the option of being seen by anyone else. Dr. Feldman is wonderful!! I could not walk due to another surgen that messed me up and Dr. Feldman did my surgery to correct what the first one had done. I am now pretty much pain free and can walk with out having to ues a wheelchair anymore! I have also used him 1 other time for another surgery and he did a great job not to mention he fixed my sisters shattered ankle. We love Dr. Feldman and I highly recomend him!!! read more
