But, after meeting with the doctor, I felt confident that this was the right decision. He was kind and took the time to explain why the surgery was needed as well as what I could expect afterwards. Scheduling the surgery and getting the necessary home care and physical therapy outside of the home as well as all follow ups have been incredibly smooth. In 2019 I met this doctor for three minutes, I had questions but he put me off and moved on to the next patient. My left knee is much larger than my right knee, but in addition I needed a little bit of length given to my left knee due to my right hip being higher than the left. I had been in lots of pain for months and finally decided it was time for a hip replacement. Since I had heard that Dr. Yacoubian was one of the best, I went to see him. From the beginning he explained the surgery very clearly, and answered all my concerns. I felt heard. I saw him just before my total hip replacement surgery ( mine was anterior) and he made me feel calm and I knew I was in good hands. I suffered with knee pain for years. Previous doctor just kept offering injections and PT. Went to Dr. Yacoubian and he immediately saw how bad my knee was and what other treatments I had tried and said the next option was knee replacement. We scheduled it and things could not have been better! While recovery was painful (especially early on), it was temporary and living without pain has been a gift! I announced to a few friends that he was going to do my surgery and 3 of them said he did their total hip replacements and they couldn't be happier. He has an RN on staff who takes you through every step and answers any question you have prior to your surgery. And, following surgery, she's there in person to talk about what's going to happen as you recover. (She told me about the burning sensations one might experience as the thigh nerves wake up, and how to handle them. Two women I know each had hip surgery a week after me - not by Dr. Yacoubian - and were shocked that I'd been told how to deal with this weird pain, cuz no one had told them.) So far so good. The office staff is friendly, prompt and considerate of your time and privacy. The office is clean and runs very efficiently. Note there are two Dr Yacoubian's in this office. I believe one is a knee specialist and this one is a hip specialist. He reviewed my imaging and listened to my complaints. I have a long and complicated medical past so I appreciate that he took the extra time to acknowledge what I felt the problem might be, even though he had his thoughts as well, which he explained to me. He ordered additional imaging per request and we shall meet up soon to go over results. There is a parking structure at $12 Max per day. Generally I spend $4 to $6 on a visit here. I had a total knee replacement procedure with Dr. Shahan Yacoubian just under 6 months ago. I'm an active 65 year old and had severe knee pain due to previous knee surgeries performed in my youth. I'm very pleased with the outcome of the surgery and with Dr. Yacoubian in particular. He's obviously very experienced and skilled but is also a keen listener. For example, he was mindful of an IT band issue I was having when aligning my new knee. I went to Dr Yacoubian a couple years ago. I was diagnosed with mild hip dysplasia and did physical therapy for a while, learning techniques to strengthen the muscles around the hip joint. Fast forward to this year when I returned to Dr. Yacoubian because the pain had intensified even more over the years. Walking more than a mile was extremely painful and I'd be sore for three days after. From just a mile! Both hips hurt. My lifestyle had slowly become more and more sedentary as I avoided movement so I could avoid the pain. Some updated X-rays and MRIs (so super fun) and it showed my condition had gotten worse. I had bone spurs as well as labral tears. I ended up having two hip surgeries, "arthroscopic hip chondroplaty debridement". Nine months later and I feel like a new person. This was truly a life changing set of surgeries. The only limit on how far I can walk is how long I can keep going! No pain at all! Also, I have two tiny scars on each hip about the size of a nickel. It's crazy they were able to go in there and fix things via these two tiny holes! Mind. Blown. I diligently did physical therapy after each surgery and continued my exercises. I also did a decent amount of swimming which was really great movement. Gradually my recovery has gotten better and better. Truly it was a life changing experience for me. Thanks Dr. Yacoubian! My hip replacement surgery was done by Dr. Shahan Yacobian on 6/18/24. In the 6 week-post surgery, the improvement in my quality of life has been nothing short of transformative. Before surgery, I experienced constant pain when walking or hiking even short distances. Three weeks after surgery, I was walking 5 miles daily without any assistive devices. I'm so excited to be able to do the activities I had to forgo due to hip pain. A week prior to surgery, I attended a zoom meeting given by Providence St. Joseph Hospital in which they explained what to expect and how to prepare for the procedure. I'm a 75 year/old with a total left hip replacement by Dr. Yacoubian. The results were beyond my expectations. He is highly trained with a Harvard Brigham and Women's Fellowship in Orthopedic Surgery. His whole team at OSS is attentive and efficient. They even arranged for delivery to my home of an extra large ice pack. St. Joseph Hospital in Burbank was another plus for me. I didn't need to go to Los Angeles for my operation. I was driving within a month of the operation. I was pain-free after surgery and didn't even need pain medication after two days. I was walking with a walker the next day. read more

Normally I write reviews when something is really good or really bad. I will give a C to my appointment in July with Dr. Yacoubian. I appreciate that he was nice but left me completely in the dark about what to do with my injury. He recommended surgery but not an explanation on what type of surgery, recovery time, etc. I know that I may eventually need the surgery but I was apprehensive and told him if there was another way. He just stated ok physical therapy then. He said that I should not make big movements then just walk out without answering my questions. He also recommended having a knee brace to stabilize the patella while walking out of the room so no way of asking anything about it. His assistant brought 3 different ones that unfortunately did not fit me because I am overweight. 2 were too small and one was giant (I don't think that I am the only overweight patient). The assistant eventually gave up and told me that I "should order one"... I am clueless, where? what type? is there any prescription? since I know that there are places that will do them but they need a prescription. Nothing... I advised that I did an MRI of the knee the week before and asked for an email to send the results. The doctor never verified the MRI results or even mentioned it and told me that I could potentially have "either extended or broken ligaments" ??? I don't understand why he did not check the results of the MRI that I provided and instead just look at the X-ray taken in the office where you CANT see the ligaments. In the end, I left confused with a physical therapy prescription but clueless on what brace to use where to order... how imminent I need the surgery, what does the MRI reflect on the tendons and the ligaments? To complete the experience, I start receiving letters about a $5 copay. Even when I already paid $80 the day of the visit. I was harassed for $5 dollars.!!! I eventually paid just to let it go but I am very disappointed. I have high expectations, given the fact he shares the office with a great hand doctor. Sadly not the best experience. read more

Dr. Falkenstein operated on my lower spine to remove a cyst that was growing into my spinal column. It had become nearly impossible to walk. After surgery, I got full function back. It was discovered during the MRI pre-surgery that I had two ruined hips. First hip replacement was June and second was August. I had two unsuccessful hip operations over a period of 10 years. Through my insurance company I was referred to Dr. Yacoubian... who specializes in reconstructive joint replacement surgery. Prior to my surgery with Dr. Yacoubian, I experienced 8 hip dislocations, each requiring an EMT trip to the hospital. In researching his bio I was impressed that he was Harvard trained and.... had a humble and pleasant personality the likes of which I had never experienced from a surgeon before.
