A good place to get redwood for fences and treated wood. The staff behind the desks in the lobby are very helpful with general questions. This place seems to be frequented by people who know what they are doing. I only vaguely know what I'm doing, but was still able to navigate the two step 'purchase' and 'deliver' to your car process. But inside FSI store (behind desk) is a another world, don't expect a decent customer service here, Customer service its Awful, staff behind desk are incredible horrible, very rude starting with the manager (manager that I don't know her name, she didn't mention) it seems that they don't care about a customer service or your business. I'm definitely not coming back to this place. So if you just want to pay less money regardless about poor quality red wood and the awful customer service (inside store) this your place, otherwise give your self a favor and don't waste your time, there is a better places such a Redwood fence supply co or Sierra Lumber with a 2 to 3 dollars difference but believe me it will make such a big difference when you try to build a good business relationship for your source of materials for your business. These folks are pros, which is important when you are decidedly not a pro. When I first showed up to pick up my pickets and 2x4s, in my little station wagon, I was sure it would fit. Well, the pickets *or* the 2x4s would fit, but not both. They cheerfully set up a new delivery for me, and at a convenient time for me. And when I asked the delivery guy for some scraps to put my stuff on for drying, he hooked up up with a few dozen old chunks of 2x4. Fast forward six months, after I painted all the parts. I discovered I needed a couple new posts, as well. I put in a custom order for chamfered 6x6s, and they claimed they could get it done in a week. I called up a week later, and it was done. I went down, they loaded 'em up, and when I got ready to leave, I was concerned that the top was 1"x1" rather than 2"x2". I (very politely) asked a guy in the yard, who got the manager, who came out and measured it, and showed me that it was 2"x2", just as ordered. She even let me use her measuring tape myself. When, at this point, you might expect her to say, "Fine, now get lost, you idiot," she instead said, "Well, if you find it's the wrong size when you get home, let us know and we'll cut it off again for you." I am landscaper local to the peninsula and SF area. I purchase all my lumber from FSI. The quality of the lumber is hard to find. Lumber is fresh, sweats when you cut into. Best of all, very little knots! Employees are friendly and knowledgeable. From the staff at the front desk to the guys in the yard. Delivery unloading time is typically 20-40 minutes. Last of all prices. If your a professional, you can't beat the quality for the price. I can now compete against big fencing companies because I can source lumber at a much cheaper price, WITHOUT sacrificing quality. Heads up, if you plan to pickup lumber same day... expect to be there an hour, depending on the time of day. read more

FSI: "No. What are you looking for?" Me: "I'm not sure...I'd like to know what you have. Can I walk the lot?" FSI: "No." Me: "Okay, well what do you offer?" FSI: "We have several different woods." Me: "Do you have a price list or something I can figure out what the options are?" FSI: "No." Me: "......." (If you didn't read that with an extremely curt and unhelpful tone, you read it wrong...). I was looking for a good quality redwood gate and found the custom ordered doors from Home Depot and Lowe's were either shoddy or VERY expensive. One of the salemen at Lou's doors (they don'd do gates) recommended stopping my FSI. They had EXACTLY what I wanted and it was at least $200 less than I would have paid for the same quality at Home Depot. Finally, the customer service was amazing as I decided to get a second gate to match. I could not be happier!!! PS. I learned from these comments that FSI closed for Day without Immigrants. Thank you FSI! It would have been an easier business decision to stay open, but your support on this issue means a LOT to some of us!!!! read more

My husband and I went in there. The front end of this place is VERY RUDE, there is a female up front who is just BITCHY AF. Clearly this company could give a RATS ASS about their customers. We own 3 of our own companies and if for one second one of my employees treated one of MY customers with such great rudeness I'd throw them out on the street.We are a General Contractor and have a ton of business contacts that we will mention this too, some have already commented this place is for shit because of their customer service. We honestly were told that unless you are hispanic, they will be even ruder. We definitely felt that when we were there. It's OK though, their prices are INSANE and you can't even look at the lumber, we are building fences and was refused any product unless we buy it first. We were then told there is no lumber right now as there is a lumber shortage. So we went to Scotts Valley and was treated wonderfully, we got to handpick all our lumber....NO LUMBER SHORTAGE LOL, we spent over 5k in lumber for our home. What's that Julia Roberts said in Pretty Woman? BIG MISTAKE, HUGE.............remember when a customer is happy they tell 3 people, when you treat customers like crap, they tell 30.......unless you YELP THEM......just wondering where the owner is and why they put up with this. Bad business, this house needs a thourough cleaning up of rude staff and take each customer as they come through the door as gold, after all, its the customer that makes the business, not the employee. I've been searching high and low for a good source of lumber for my fence, deck and arbor projects. Southern Lumber- great quality, high price. Lowes- good quality, medium price. Home Depot- low quality, low price. Ace Hardware- no quality, no price. In other words I was stuck 'coz I wanted good quality at contractors' pricing. It was really difficult to know which businesses carried the inventory at the pricing I wanted without calling every single phone number listed under Fence Materials. There were those which bounced me around various persons before bouncing me into their voice-mail. Then they never call back. Then there were those which immediately put me on eternal hold after picking up my call. After some gruesome finger-walking through the Yellow Pages, fruitless phone calls and a lifetime wasted, I was tipped to Soares Lumber. To the helpful gentleman who gave me the lead, I'll be forever grateful. In his words, '...this place on the other side of the airport'. When I called Soares Lumber, the first person who took my call tried his best to answer every question I had. I could tell he put in effort 'coz he would shout the questions to people in the background, there were lots of input from everyone and he would relay back the answers to me. Soares Lumber has it's own redwood lumber yard and mill their own material. Everthing in stock is reasonably priced. I was offered a contractor's discount even though I'm just a weekend DIYer. When I went in, they explained every piece of wood I needed to build my fence, deck and arbor. If I didn't understand something or any terminology, they used sketches, floor samples and even miniature wooden models to educate me. They took their time and gave me the same service level as they would have given the pros which I appreciated. read more

Customer representative was not helpful or friendly at all. I received a quote for some wood and then called approximately 20 minutes later (around 3:40 pm, near their closing time). The representative said that they didn't have one of the items they just quoted 20 minutes earlier. I asked about delivery time and she couldn't even give me a ball park estimate of delivery time. I asked about when they would have an item back in stock and I get the same response (no ball park estimate) in the same unfriendly manner, rushing to just end the call. Perhaps, their prices are cheap, but the representative was very unfriendly and didn't seem to have any interest at all in helping the customer. read more

PSG Fencing, AKA Soares Lumber, please avoid. The fence they built for me using the lowest grade redwood common, until I realize even within common red there are different grades. The worker are nice but the workmanship is substandard. Customer service does not exist. No one returns calls and no one is in charge. Please avoid. read more
