I had the bento at Feng Donburi in Edmonton a little while ago. Everything was nicely presented, and the food tasted pretty good (fairly fresh sashimi, decently cooked chicken). However, it felt like it lacked a bit of personality or a clear style that would make it stand out. It's good food, but not delicate or refined enough to go into that direction; the fish was decently fresh but not as fresh as some competitors; and while pricing is reasonable, it's not great value either. Overall, it's a decent meal, and I'd give it 7.3/10.

The place is small but cozy! Staff were friendly. They had a lot of take out orders and as a result it took a long time for us to get our food and we did not get our appetizer first and they brought the appetizer at the end. To be fair, their food was good and delicious but the service was not the greatest. I may give it a shot again and I hope they have a better service next time!

There's a new Japanese restaurant in Windermere! Highly recommend booking a reservation since the space isn't that large and it's quite popular right now . They have various rolls, Donburi, appetizers, sashimi and more on their menu. Very bright and modern inside. I tried the the following: Takoyaki poutine- pretty unique & I liked it. It got too salty from the sauce near the end. Feng's special roll- pretty good unagi roll! Didn't find it too special. Alaskan roll- Yummy Aburi salmon roll! Beef Tataki- A bit too much soy sauce and lacked the vinegar that usually balances out the saltiness. Curry Chicken Katsu- decent curry chicken! My fave items were the Alaskan roll and Curry Chicken Katsu. Overall the food is good! Compared to the other Japanese restaurants out there, I would rank it somewhere in the middle. It's good but not like mind blowing good. Since they're in the soft opening phase, you may experience slow service.

Price is fair based on the location in this community. However, Overall the service needs more improvement and organization. When we walked in the restaurant, no one says anything not even a "hi" for over 5 mins. We were just standing in front of their main entrance. Yes, we understand it's soft opening, and probably the waitress were not trained properly. But later on, when they were not that busy, our waiter was fine with us. Food quality alright the takoyaki protein not worth it, just takoyaki sauce and traditional fries protein, and it says has octopus on the menu, but really.......?? Can't find it. Curry Chicken bowl is tasty, but need more sauce for sure because you will just eat chicken and rice separately and very dry. Salmon Lover is the superstar and highlight! Chop chop roll and Alaskan roll both were good. Environment a little messy.....

We had a lovely dining experience at the newly opened Feng Donburi. Their restaurant is modern, clean, & the staff were incredibly attentive. The food was delicious, and their menu had a wonderful variety. Our appetizers were tasty. We also thought their price point was great too! Perhaps our NEW favourite budget friendly Japanese food spot in the city! PS. Apparently they might include ramen on their menu in the near future!

Just recently opened during a soft opening, Feng Donburi is a very welcome addition to the Windermere area. With a brand new restaurant space, it was a very modern atmosphere the moment you step in. Their appetizers have a good variety of items you'd expect to be on most Japanese menus, but there were also a few unique options that we'll be back to try. The Ika karage was very crispy but chewy still in the middle, and the Takoyaki was fairly standard. We tried out a few of the rolls but the Feng Special stood out for us as the better roll of the night. The roll was filled with bbq eel and avocado, a great combo, and although I wish it could have been actual crab the crab salad rounded out a tasty roll. My first time trying tomato base udon broth was a welcome surprise. With a little tanginess from the tomatoes the savoury broth was very flavourful. Udon noodles were a good firmness and the egg was cooked just right with beef slices that were fine. Service from start to finish was pleasant and very good even though it was quite busy at times during the dinner rush. After a little wait for the first appetizer to come out, everything came out at a nice pace. Looking forward to come back and try their sashimi and other dishes!

Dragon Eye rolls - 67 minutes waited and the food ended up tasting like old fish and was definitely not fresh

I would like to apologize for my negative energy however seeing as it was my anniversary dinner i must say how severely disappointed i am. I have been to Feng Donburi since the first day its opened and have always thought highly of the restaurant; however my experience today has changed my perspective forever. During my time today, after ordering it took 20 minutes to bring us our drinks, and another 40 to bring out the first appetizer, 20 minutes after receiving the appetizer came out the main course. It took over an hour to bring out everything in total which I would normally see okay except for the fact that they were prioritizing reservations that had arrived 40 minutes after us. I understand the urgency to respect those who have made reservations however we had been there for 40 minutes prior and hadn't received food while their whole groups entrees had been received while we had nothing. I truly hope the best for the restaurant however today's experience was unacceptable.

Atmosphere is relaxed and minimalistic with a great chill vibe. Service is okay but I would say that all the times I have been there, the staff have not been super welcome or friendly. And this day was super busy, a Friday night and I don't think they had enough staff for the tables. Our dishes came by slowly which was fine because we were visiting with friends but don't expect to fly in and out. This is the one thing they can improve on. Luckily the food makes up for it. We ordered a bunch of things to share. The seasonal vegetable tempura Beef Tataki served with grated daikon, seaweed, sliced onion, ponzu dressing Black Cod with a miso marinade Japonais Premium Select -assorted chef's choice of maki rolls, sushi & sashimi We also sampled sake, beer, and Japanese whiskey Everything we had was delicous. The standout was the black cod with the miso marinade and the amazing selction of the Japonais Premium Select. A HUGE amount of rolls, sushi and sashimi. Definately worth the money if you are fine with the chef doing the choosing. Everything was super fresh. The only thing I think was just average was the tempura. It was no difference than the other places I have been to. Really worth making the reservation for, just keep in mind you may need to wait.

I ordres an assortment of them - red snapper, tuna and salmon for the sushi, California and Alberta rolls, and tempura shrimp cone. This time around I ordered the beef tataki, stir fried udon with chicken, miso soup and the 6 oz steak (for this one, a hot stone is brought to your table and you sear the steak on it; sauce are also available for this dish). I had green tea to drink and had green tea ice cream for desert. Service was very good and rapid, and very attentive and polite. The restaurant's ambiance is busy and popular, but it's quite easy to relax and enjoy the food and restaurant while there.

And after our dinner, this place will be pretty difficult to beat. We came here for our anniversary dinner. My boyfriend put in a reservation earlier, and once we arrived we were seated pretty quickly. It was a Monday night but I was so surprised at how packed the place was. This was our first time here so the server explained how ordering on the slip works. Wait time wasn't terrible. And like I mentioned before, this place was so packed and full of people. All the servers that night were weaving through aisles, delivering food, and taking orders. They were all hustling. Food was delicious. We started off with a couple of rolls like California Rolls, Avocado, Tuna, Salmon, and Tamago. The sushi rolls were pretty small, but I didn't have a problem with it. Since it's AYCE, I knew that we'd have much more food coming. I was very impressed by the quality of fish. It tasted very fresh. Also we ordered the seared Beef Nigiri and that was delicious. We ended up ordering more of that later. For the next round, we ordered Edamame, Beef (? it was like a beef galbi cut but I forgot the name of it on the menu), Chicken Skewers, Green Onion Cake, and Tempura. For our Tempura veggies we chose pumpkin, yam, and eggplant. I loved the tempura. It was definitely a highlight of the night. The batter was very crispy, light, and all the tempura came out hot. It was wonderful. We ended up getting more after the first round of tempura because it was too good. The Chicken Skewers were phenomenal. My boyfriend and I were saying that if we had the Chicken Skewers with rice, that would just be enough. The flavor of the sauce was great: savory, slightly sweet, it was reminiscent of a teriyaki flavor for me. And lastly, we had the BC Roll, Alberta Roll, Crunchy Roll, Philadelphia Roll, the seared Beef Nigiri again, and a few other rolls. At this point of the dinner we barely had any steam left but somehow we managed. Every single we thing we ate was just amazing. I wasn't disappointed by anything we ordered actually it was just great. I will say the Crunchy Roll had this smokiness that scratched my brain in the best way possible and I was so impressed by that bite. This was such an unforgettable experience and the best place we've spent our anniversary haha. 10/10, take my money. To Sushi Toshi, I'll be thinking about you.

I was indecisive, and my friend had never had Japanese food before. They actually gave suggestions to them which they found helpful. I also gave a bracelet to the waiter serving us. They were really cool I hope they're well :D I do wish I got something actually spicy, but I was starving so I just kinda chose at random. Next time, I suppose! Service was okay, but not outstanding. It also wasn't that busy. That is why this time it looses a star. Food was delicious however. Nice selection of cocktails. Which were well executed. We ordered a bunch of things. First of all we did the Dorinku sushi set. Dorinku Sushi Set -Salmon Pressed Sushi, TNT Pressed Sushi, Scallop Pressed Sushi, Tuna Tataki. Everything here was delicious. Most of the table loved the salmon and TNT pressed sushi the best, however I am a sucker for scallops and this did not disappoint. You won't go wrong with any of these selections. The fish was top tier and so fantastic. I think I will always order this here. For mains we went with the Miso Black Ramen, the vegan ramen, the tonkatsu mack and cheese, the cream udon, and the shaka shaka fries. Everyone was pleased with their dishes. I myself had the vegan ramen and the broth was full bodied and flavourful. I would also get this again. The tonkatsu mac and cheese was super rich and a steal of a deal for 13 bucks, and the others seemed to enjoy their food as well. Try it if you haven't. Really good food for a really great price.
