I am from the United States. My wife and I spent the last couple weeks traveling through Europe,…read moreand trying many local dishes that we wouldn't be able to find at home. On the last day of our trip we walked into this restaurant. We chose it due to it's close location to our hotel, and it was a choice based on convenience as opposed to interest. I was quickly surprised. After a full day of tours and sightseeing we were tired and hungry. Upon entering the restaurant the staff greeted us with a friendly and inviting demeanor that immediately helped improve my mood. Although, it's not much to look at from the outside, the inside is clean, and well decorated with modest middle eastern decor. The quality of the meal was nothing short of amazing. The appetizer they served me had the tastiest hummus I've ever had. I ordered a shrimp plate that caught my attention and I can honestly say this was the single best shrimp recipe I've ever had in my life. I would have gladly payed the chef hundreds of dollars for the recipe just so I could recreate it at home. My wife enjoyed her meal just as much as I did. We quickly agreed that this had been the single best meal of the entire trip. Now if I can just talk the owner into selling me that recipe

Ok it can be a bit intimidating when busy as it's noisy. Also the lighting makes me feel somewhat uncomfortable but the service is generally excellent and the food is unbeatable.. so you can understand that I have become a bit conservative when eating out in Wood Green. G&K is a Turkish restaurant that serves some authentic food. The plates are full of meat or veg and they provide an excellent salad, bread and dip starter for free. The salad is amazingly fresh every single time, the bread is warm and the dip tasty. The mains have so far never dissapointed. My donner is not too oily and goes well with the rice that's included. My wife's vegetarian was surprising good.. the aubergine was soft, moist, slightly oily and flavoursome. I m tempted to try the veg myself next time but the donner keeps calling me. The mixed grill is exceptional value for money. It has meats, bread and rice from what I remember. You also need at least 3 people to have a proper go at it. For once we tried the dessert.. the baclava was fresh but the rice pudding (called something else) is light and delicious. Personally I prefer the Greek baclava as it's a bit more moist but your taste could be different. To help digest we had some Turkish coffee, again exceptional. Turkish food is the harder edge of middle Eastern food. I always think that they are less delicate in cooking meats than Persian which by the way is my personal favourite. However the mixture of fresh salads seems to lighten the load of the meats on the body. K&G provides both quantity and quality and is well worth a visit.

Loads of meat and not many veggie options. We ordered two starters and two mains. That was way too much! They gave us hummus, bread AND a salad on the house. Plus all the rest of the delicious food this nearly killed me, as I can never resist a great Turkish meal. I wanted to try their chinoffee pie and plantain ice cream but when I asked neither had been prepared and the cook couldn't tell me a good time to come when they would be ready which was a disappointment. I got their jollof box and added chicken suya and these were the standouts. The chicken suya was really good. The suya flavor was pitch perfect. The jollof rice had a bit of smokiness to it and the accompanying stew was excellent. Overall, I'm glad I checked them out and I'd be open to trying them again as they had other items on their menu that looked good (and I still want to try their desserts) but only if I'm already in the area.

Don't let the white linens fool you, the prices are reasonable. The menu features the staples of Italian cuisine, pastas, fish, veal and other meats. The wine selection is fair but the house wine, only about 4,00/botte is decent. I had the mussels in a white wine cream sauce (one of my absolute favorite dishes) as a starter. It was well cooked but a bit too much salt in the sauce (and I LOVE salt). The prawn starter the others had was a huge success. My mussel portion was huge and I could have had that and some bread for my main meal. Fettuccine Alfredo complimented as my main dish and was creamy and delish. The dessert menu was amazing but we brought a cake for a friends birthday and they were happy to serve that with the flair of the birthday song playing over the loud speaker and candles on the cake.
