A fantastic burger. Great buns, fantastic combination of toppings, flavourful patty, and everything came together well. Is it one of the best burgers I've ever had? Not quite, but a great option if you're in the area. However, the onion rings were painfully mediocre. You only get a few of them for the price, and the texture and flavor wasn't anything special. Get the burger, pass on the rings.
WOW! Just wow! I was skeptical when Fergburger was mentioned as one of the world's best burgers, but was pleasantly surprised at how massive and delicious the burger was. We tried the following burgers: - The Fergburger - 5/5. Your standard burger and absolutely delicious! - Sweet Bambi - made with wild fjordland deer and a sweet chutney - 5/5 - Codfather - fish burger 5/5 The difference-maker with Fergburger is the delicious buns, which are made at neighboring Fergbaker. The meat patties are also huge and packed with flavor. There is always a line unless you show up at 8am, when we walked by early in the morning. Lines go quick and we waited ~30-min for burgers around lunchtime. Very limited seating in and outside. Recommend getting your burgers and sitting at the outdoor parks or by the pier. We only had 2-days in Queenstown and happened to eat at all "ferg" establishments (Fergburger, Fergbaker, and Mrs. ferg). They were just that good!
Visiting Ferburger, standing in line, and the anticipation to finally taste this burger was great fun! If I'm being honest though, although the burger was pretty good, it's not something I would stand in line for again. We tried the Fergburger Deluxe and fries. Again, it's just a pretty good burger.
Good burgers (4/5), long lines but they move quick! Food- Ferg burger double (4/5) good quality meat in a sesame bun, your traditional burger. I would recommend a single and not a double as the patty's are meaty. Service: friendly, long lines but it moves quickly! Overall about 20 minutes of waiting in line then about 10-15 minutes after order is placed. Atmosphere: it's a causal spot but FLOODED with customers. You'll be lucky to get a seat. Overall it's hyped up more than what it is but it's worth checking out!
Fergburger is easily the most famous restaurant in Queenstown - if you even mention you're going to Queenstown, people will tell you that you have to try Fergburger. The line for Fergburger was LONG and I mean like a whole block long out the door long and I was told that that's not even bad for them. Fergburger offers a whole list of different burger and sandwich combos along with fries, shakes, etc. For flying all the way across the world from the United States, Fergburger sells quite an American cuisine. After about 20-30 min of waiting, we got up to order and placed our order. They give you a number and then you wait another bit longer for your food to be ready. They'll show your number on a screen when it's your time. The bummer is that it's absolutely way too packed to sit down considering there's only a few tables so you pretty much have to take it to go. Honestly, the burger was solid but in my opinion, each US city has 10+ better burger shops than Fergburger. The burger was good don't get me wrong, but did not live up to the hype. The fries were great however!
OKAY YUM - this place is insane! I was here on a Saturday night and the line was Long but it moved quick - super efficient operation. We got the holier than tho and the codfather both were DELCICIOUS! the burgers were huge and perfectly seasoned, somehow those buns weren't soggy! The waitress was so nice and when we told her we were on our honeymoon she gave us a free wine bottle
Food: 4.9/5 Service: 2.8/5 Value: 4.7/5 The hype of the town and boy does the line make you feel the hype. Even in the rain, we had to wait 10 minutes just to order. Luckily the stores nearby typically have rain covers and the rain was relatively light. However, the wait was absolutely worth it, and I'll remember this as one of the best burgers I've had. Just to get all of my complaints out of the way. It is really difficult to find anywhere to sit and actually enjoy the burger. There are so many tourists and so few spots, just expect to have to enjoy this burger somewhere else. On a sunny day, would strongly recommend just going by the lake, but on a rainy like what we experienced, it was super difficult. Now, onto the food! Ferg Deluxe: Holy crap this burger was so good.... The combination of the well seasoned, tender patty with the bacon, relish were incredible. Honestly, when I first took a bite of this burger, I was just blown away and instantly knew it was different from the other burgers I've had. I can't give enough praise to how well Fergburger executes their staple. Sweet Bambi: Honestly after the Ferg Deluxe, this was quite the letdown. The deer was not as well seasoned but the boysenberry sauce was quite good. It just didn't have the "wow" factor that the Ferburger has. Altogether a decent burger but would probably just recommend getting the restaurant staple.
My husband bookmarked this place, and our hotel concierge also recommended it, so it seemed like a must-try spot. I was warned that the line can be quite long usually 30 to 45 minutes but when I arrived around 2:30 pm on a Friday, there were only about five people ahead of me. I waited roughly five minutes before ordering. I ordered the Double Patty with cheese for $21.50, the Southern Swine for about $18.50, a Hokey Pokey milkshake for $12.50, and onion rings for $9.90. The staff mentioned that my order number would appear on the monitor in about 15 minutes, and that was pretty accurate. We were lucky to get a seat inside as there are only about four tables--but there's additional bench seating outside where most people eat. We sat by the bar stoolsl where one of the cooks was grilling patties and toasting buns, which was fun to watch. Next door, there's also a bar, a bakery, and a gelato shop, which makes the Ferg empire lively. As for the food, the burger was juicy but not particularly flavorful. I did like the avocado, though the burger itself was huge--I couldn't finish it. The onion rings were a bit greasy, and when I opened the box, it was only half full, whereas others seemed to get more generous portions. Not a big deal since I couldn't finish mine anyway, but worth noting. Everything moved pretty efficiently overall. However, there's only one unisex bathroom, and the line can get long. Unfortunately, it also smelled quite bad, definitely an area they should improve.
If you're in Queenstown, Fergburger is a must. It shows up on every "best places to eat" list, and it really does live up to the hype. Even if you see a crowd outside, don't let that discourage you -- the staff are friendly and they turn over orders fast. We visited on a Friday afternoon, and we only waited about 5-10 minutes to order. However, we have heard that waits can be much longer (up to an hour) during weekends or peak dining times. Seating inside is limited (a few barstools and small tables), so many people take their food to-go, but we were able to grab seats at the counter. I ordered the Fergburger with double meat (two patties, cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, garlic aioli) for $21.50 NZD. My wife ordered the Southern Swine (beef patty, bacon, same toppings plus avocado) for $18.90 NZD, onion rings ($9.90 NZD) and a hokey pokey milkshake (vanilla with honeycomb toffee for $12.20 NZD). The burgers are large, the buns are toasted and hold everything together, and the patties were juicy and flavorful. The onion rings were crispy, and the milkshake was rich and creamy. There's a tv monitor inside showing when orders are ready, and there's also a restroom available. Great flavor, big portions, and fast service. Definitely worth stopping by when you're in Queenstown.
Burger still amazing! Lots of options including fish, chicken, venison & more.."gourmet"style burgers with all the fixings but super casual joint. Busy and lively buzz here all the time so plan on bringing patience with your appetite. . Service is quick& friendly. Love it here... can't leave town without trying! Oh, they just had their 25th anniversary. They have a bakery next door and a bar now too.
We heard this place was once ranked as No. 1 burger place in the world by CNN or something so we decided to give you a try. This place always has a line rain or shine, no matter number one or not, it's definitely one of the most loved restaurants in Queenstown. The line usually moves pretty fast, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They walked along the line passing around the menus and giving you an estimate of the current wait time for food. Ordering was very easy and efficient. Not sure if it's the expectation or the over-hyped before trying the food. I'd say the patties are pretty juicy, food is good, but I wouldn't say it's the best burger I've ever had. They open pretty late, so it's perfect for late night snacks or craves.
I was recommended this place on my trip to Queenstown so of course I had to go. The line was out the door but the register was right at the entry. I asked what the most popular item was and she recommended the Ferg Deluxe ($19.90 NZD). I also got a side of Fries ($7.90) and Ginger Beer ($6). It was just me so I was easily able to find a seat at the counter. They have a tv behind the register where you can see which order numbers are ready. The food also came out in a reasonable time, maybe a bit less than 10 minutes. I wouldn't say that it's the juiciest burger and it wasn't life changing, but for the price it was pretty good. The burger was huge but I was still able to finish the whole burger surprisingly. They really did not skimp on any of the ingredients and I got a good mix of flavors with each bite. It's a pretty fast paced place and a lot of people take their orders to go. There's only a few tables inside so you'll have to be pretty lucky to get a spot. Like I said, it wasn't the best burger I've had in my life, but it's worth a try and you definitely get your money's worth. It's best to go off peak times because I always see a long line out front. I would still come back though to try some of their more unique burgers.

This place has tons of hype and we drove passed about an hour before we ate there and the line was literally down the street! I had the Ferg Deluxe and the verdict is that it's a terrific burger. Not the best I've had ever, but very, very good. My boyfriend just had the regular old Ferg and he declared it probably the best burger he's ever had. Definitely a delicious burger and the line moves fast! read more
Your must have when you visit Queenstown. With recommendations of other bloggers, we had to be a part of it. Yes the line is long as expected but they move pretty fast. I wouldn't suggest dining in option since it is pretty packed in that little space all the day long lol. We did take out and brought it to our hotel and enjoyed every bite of them yum. If the weather is nice, you could walk down to the lakeside and could dine there with that beautiful view that I still see in my dreams. I cannot wait until I get back there to enjoy the round 2 of this amazingly magnificent city and Fergburger. read more
This place had a line of at least 50 people during Christmas time, but the line moves quite quickly since they have you pay and then wait on the side for the food. My girlfriend and I opted for the Big Al burger since it looked the tastiest and could be split between two people. I really love having eggs in my burgers and this burger had 2 of them! This burger isn't the best I've ever had, but it certainly was the biggest. There wasn't any available seating at the restaurant, so we walked across the intersection to the park to grab a seat. read more

Great little burger joint in Queenstown! Most of the day there are 30+ people in the queue, but moves quickly. Staff is very friendly and helpful with directing the crowds. We had the original Fergburger and Ferg deluxe along with fries. The fries had several options for dipping sauce but were good enough to eat by themselves. Overall it was well worth the wait...about thirty minutes once we were in line behind 35 people. The huge burgers will probably allow us to skip dinner read more

3.5 stars Most famous burger store in Queenstown and arguably New Zealand - super long line... We waited an hour for a burger. Is the burger good? Yes. Is it thatttt good? No. The classic beef "Fergburger" is above average but nothing spectacular. The better options here are the non-beef burger like the pork belly and the lamb burgers. Fries and squid rings both average as well. Would nonetheless suggest lining up if you are in Queenstown to see what the line is all about but don't set an overly high expectation. read more

If you're looking to go here, be expected there will be a line. Unlike you coming early in the morning or late at night for munchies, be prepared for a 30-minute wait at least. The line often extends down the block. There aren't many tables to dine in as it seems more like a to-go spot. The burger was indeed quite delicious and better than most of the meals I had in New Zealand. However, coming from America where a tasty burger is such a common thing, it wasn't a WOW kind of deal. The prices are pretty affordable and the meat is certainly tender and juicy. It seems even more rewarding after a long tiring hike. Recommended to all burger lovers. read more

This is a great burger joint close to the Skyline. You will definitely have to wait! We passed this place a few times and there was always a line. However, it's pretty efficient. We waited about 20-25 min around 11:30 am. Then you will wait another 15-20 min for your food to be cooked. So if you're on a time constraint do not go here. But we enjoyed a short walk around the town while we waited for our food to be cooked. The burger had amazing flavor. My husband and I are always skeptical about burger places because most don't know how to get the meat blend ground right but Fergburger definitely did it right! We enjoyed the homemade onion rings and Ferg Delux.... yummmm! Definitely enough to share but get your own if you're hungry! Also has a bakery right next door and we grabbed a coffee take away while waiting in line. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because of the grumpy girl that helped me behind the counter when I asked for ketchup. You shouldn't roll your eyes and huff when a customer asks for something; it's costumer service for a reason. Everyone else we encountered at the place was friendly and helpful. Seating area is very small. If it's a nice day do a take -away as there's plenty of beautiful spots to enjoy your meal! And you're away from the craze of the place! read more
At 400 reviews and a consistent line out the door, it's difficult to argue with the masses. For 2/3 of the line, I was contemplating getting Mr. Big Stuff because driving around Queenstown really gets you famished. I'm glad I went with the Ferg Deluxe sans pickles - pickles suck - because even this was massive. As someone who always gets a double double from In-N-Out, I'd wager this is a good 50% bigger. And that's not even the largest they have to offer. What differentiates Ferburger from any burger place I've ever really had is their fantastic buns. I love their buns, which is probably why they have a bakery shop set up next door. Their burger bun isn't light, airy, and wussy, it's just as meaty as their burger. Given the hype, I thought this was going to be your standard burger since the description just lists toppings. Well I'm wrong. It's just meaty, massive, with thick bacon, and a 70/30 mixture of sweet and salty which maybe just describes my penchant for sweeter, savory foods. On top of that, I also opted to get onion rings and to share Bambi with my friend. Since Bambi no longer has a mom and nothing to look forward to, I can happily say that Bambi's sacrifice was for the greater good. That same meaty bun paired with really juicy meat and matching accoutrements made for a delightful, if not sweeter burger. Of course, I ate 95% of this 2-3 days later at our hotel because I couldn't honestly eat that much. I don't regret it because it still tasted really good. Enjoy your time in line. read more

I had the Big Al here and it was both ginormous and delicious! It was my first time having a full New Zealand burger, so I was still getting used to the idea of having beets on my burger. The good thing though is that they use mostly "American" bacon and not the ham-like stuff I've been getting everywhere else. The burger was excellent! The meat had a unique kind of smell/taste to it, which took me a little while to get used to. All the ingredients were well thought out and were put together in a way that made sense and made the burger taste better, and as said before, the portion was huge and very filling! Overall an excellent choice, that was well-seasoned and well-flavored. read more

A visit to Fergburger is commonly viewed as a requirement when visiting Queenstown, so my wife and I stopped in for dinner (around 6pm) on a recent visit. We were greeted with a line that took about twenty minutes to get through, and since the restaurant was small and cramped, seating was severely limited. We were lucky enough to find a couple of stools in front of the kitchen area which we quickly vultured from a couple just leaving. I ordered the Ferg Deluxe and Fries. The Ferg Deluxe was a monster burger with a nicely toasted bun, seasoned ground beef patty, meaty bacon, crisp lettuce, and sweet tomato. The fries were crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and paired with a creamy aioli for dipping. Overall, it was a nice meal. I do recommend going earlier in the day if you don't want to wait and worry about seating. We passed the restaurant many times during our stay and noticed there were no lines in the mornings. read more

It is as amazing as all the reviews say! Obviously the one caveat is you need to be precise on your timing. When we got into town there was easily a line down the street every single day we passed by. We got lunch one morning for an earlier lunch around 10:30-11 (we had been up since 5:30 am for skydiving so we had an appetite). The options are endless but you probably won't go wrong. Since it was a little earlier we went with the classic fergburger and it was still pretty great! read more

First time in Queenstown and a local kiwi recommend we stop here for lunch after our mid-morning walk. Slightly intimidated by the long line extending out the door, we persevered and 15 minutes to order, 10 minutes later to pick up our Fergburger, Tropical Swineburger, French Fries and onion rings we were enjoying the huge portions and deliciously diverse tastiness that not only satisfied our hunger, but propelled us to the Skyline to take the Skyline hike around the summit of Queenstown. After driving 5 hours (on the opposite side of the road), riding the luge down 3 times, and settling into our hostel .. my friend and I got hungry. We were told by EVERYONE to eat here and to call in the order. So it's 10p and we try calling and making online orders .. no one picks up. We assume it's super busy. So around 11p we try walking around Queenstown finding ANYWHERE to eat .. every place was nearly closed or too expensive. We started to get hangry.. then finally we decided to wait in line at Fergburger- but to our surprise there was no line at all in fact we walked right up an ordered and it came quite quickly. Was it the best burger we had, probably. The sauce, the meat quality, the crispy golden fries .. all of it was so delicious. It was messy , but the best kind of messy. The flavors mingle well together and even the flavor of the meat was just so different than any burger you can get in the states. We went back the next day- the waitress remembered us , and she was so FRIENDLY, and everyone was so good natured here. Please order the Little Lamby. Where else can you get quality lamb burgers. The veggies were also fresh and crisp (a departure from burgers in the states). Definitely worth the hype. read more

The FergBurger Hype is Insane. So I knew From the Start what to expect. The Unexpected....Or Mediocrity. The Latter is Closest to the Truth. Let's talk Burger. As I missed my Opportunity my Previous visit The First place I Ran to is this Joint. The Signs on the Wall where Actually 'the Sign on the Wall'. HYPE. The Meat on the burger Is High Quality. The Bun is nothing Special. The Greens & Onions fresh and Delish. The Cheese is Hidden and the Bacon Skimped on. Overall this Burger is Basic. And desperately needs SEASONING. Sea Salt and Cracked Pepper would Upgrade the Fair Substantially. Anybody know Lawrys'. I Do and I Miss it. The onion rings are Fresh Cut and Quite Crunchy... but the Grease factor is high. The Shake was Runny with not Enough ice cream added so it Was basically a cookie cream Milk. Not a Proper THICK SHAKE. Why this place is not NZ's most Famous CHAIN is a mystery. You might as well Expand because It's not that Special. Overall this joint doesn't come Close to America's chain Best. FATBURGER or IN and OUT are Not only superior but way Less Expensive. Now the Staff, Exhausted by the Tourist Influx they were anything But attentive. I was treated like The Number I was. Even after Trying to be Engaging I was Shutdown. One minute I am Told 'Kiwis' are very 'Shy' and The next minute I'm treated Arrogantly and Ignored. So How do I break the code? Bleach My Skin like Mike? I think not. Read the reviews and I very much enjoyed the burger I had. I had the Big Al with fries and also a side of calamari, calamari!? Yup. The place was packed but the line was moving and I didn't wait as long as I expected. The burger was huge with all that it came with (look at the pics for what was in it) I just wished they were to cut it in half per my request but the burger was too big to. Fries were good, calamari good. But.. Whoever said this is better than a good ol' In n Out burger is tripping. This is more gourmet burger than fast food so relax with the comparisons. For a small city like Queenstown this will satisfy your burger fix. It was bombay no lie. Enjoy. read more

ALL HYPE. Sorry not sorry. My friend and I were stoked on trying the famous Fergburger. We got ourselves nice and hungry after participating in bungy jumping and the highest swing in the world. We got off the bus and walked straight to Fergburger ready to go with our orders in mind (we had been thinking about it the whole bus ride over). I opted for the Codfather and chips ($19) while my friend got the Holier than Thou (tofu burger) with homemade onions rings. We opted to split the 2 burgers to get the best of both of worlds. We even went to the bottle-o for some cider to enjoy with our burgers lakefront on the grass. We were really trying to set the scene here. Side note: DO NOT get too comfortable in the grass as the birds, but mostly the ducks, WILL ATTACK you. The most ballsy ducks I ever did see. Here I am trying to cut the burgers in half (since we asked Fergburger, but somehow they missed it) with my chips in front of me and the duck straight up uses his bill to grab some chips. Now there's chips everywhere on the ground and a swarm of birds around us. No bueno. Anyway, we move to another grassy area hoping the flock of birds leave us be. After all this turmoil we finally get to try the burgers. And what a let down it was. The Codfather was fishy and WAY TOO saucy just slathered in some dill aioli. Onion rings and fries are nothing to write home about. I did however enjoy the tofu burger as the flavors were there, but again real saucy. The burgers were ginormous I'll give you that, but I would never claim them as being the best I've ever had/in the world. My friend and I don't eat meat so can't vouch on if the meat burgers were up to par. But hey maybe we're spoiled in California as I'd choose In-N-Out all day errrrday. read more
Queenstown is just a small place. Ten minutes and you have walked the town and seen the happenings. With that being said, in this stroll in the adventure capital of the world, you would've passed by a bursting open door corner cafe, with the masses lined up and out the door and past a bakery and gelato store. Everyone is huddled so close together making it difficult to see the establishment name. They are all waiting in the outside elements for a creation from Ferdburger. Now, the World's Best Burger is a title not many places can live up to. And of all places, Queenstown, NZ is not where you'd expect this to go down. Alas, I continue. For a first experience, Ferdburger was one of those highly recommended places to go, anyone who's been to Queenstown would've eaten here, and would swear by it. In my four days, I admit, even I ate there twice. My first visit, I didn't know any better. I waited in line an hour to place an order, then 45 on top of that to get my food. You can imagine, after such a prolonged wait, anything would taste bomb. Let me tell you, the original was so much more than just a burger. The bread is baked on site, you can tell by how fresh and fluffy it is. The patty, there's something about NZ beef, that is really surprising. All of the tastes were there, working simultaneously to please you, nothing was masking or overwhelming, it was all pure burger awesomeness. The sauces were perfectly spread out, no way this burger was going to be dry, there was so many tastes going on, I don't know how they do it all in one burger. I felt the need to try something else, originals are classic, but their menu is too vast to just play it safe. I went for the vegetarian Bun Laden. Seriously, their burgers are worth the wait. And that says a lot as you will be waiting a while. Pro tips: Try and time it. No one likes waiting in line to get you order placed. And then waiting in another just for your order to be called out. Go to Ferdburger when it's not lunch or dinner time. Try early morning (they do have breakfast burgers), from 3-4pm during that awkward late lunch, early dinner stage or anytime after midnight. This place is open 8:30 til 5am. So that's probably your best bet. read more
Totally lives up to its hype after being recommended this place by multiple friends. One of the best burgers ever - and I've had Au Cheval in Chicago... Food: I ordered the Southern Swine because avo. MAN, the burgers are massive. My brain was telling me to stop eating because my body was full, but my mouth just kept chomping away until I was done. The aioli & tomato relish definitely has crack in it. Great value for the size at $12.50. The breakfast burgers sounded mouthwatering as well. I will be back. Service: came with bae super hungry at 5:30pm for our first meal in Queenstown on a cold cold night in June. Thought we'd beat the crowd but was met with a line. An employee came out with menus and reassured us it would be 5-10m in line and 5-10min for food to come out. She was not wrong! Was able to snag a seat inside while waiting for our order to be called. Also, this place is open until 5am. What! Ambiance: Minimal seating inside. Seating outside but also minimal and not ideal in the winter... really wanted to buy the cool swag they have at the counters... Tldr; go at an off peak time. You'll have one of the best burgers of your life. read more

We are from The United States, so we know all about good burgers. This place is really good. Meat was juicy and the sizes are large as well. The fries aren't all that. They are average, and nothing to get excited about. They are more on the soft side. The only main gripe with this place is the layout and service. Try tracking someone down for more catchup...good luck with that! Quick tip: The menus are thick paper, and are stashed on the left side of the door entrance in a holder. read more
As soon as I knew I was going to New Zealand, I was probably most excited to try fergburger. Being dubbed as the best burger in the world, it had a huge name to live up to. We were quite lucky because we came around 9 pm on a Friday and there was no line. I got the classic fergburger and fries. I liked that they had a digital screen to see when your order was done. It's one big burger. The bun was amazing. Overall, the burger was fantastic. We came back another night and I had the southern swine burger with Brie as they were out of avocado. However, they still put on the tomato relish despite me requesting to not have it. A must stop in Queenstown. Their burgers are very affordable and filling. read more
