In fact, one of our contractors did use them for a relatively moderate project ($10,000 bath renovation) and the lighting was fine/nice. Three times however, we have gone into the store on our own to pick out a fixture and buy it. Three times, the salespeople acted like it was a hassle to actually show us something or look something up -- like even the price! Twice now (once over a year ago, and once just in August 2014) we have "placed an order" for an item listed in their desk-catalog and were told they would call us when the item arrived. No one EVER calls. We politely followed up about every two weeks for nearly three months and were told each time "nope" and they'd call us. The most recent order was a simple, but elegant DOORBELL!!! Unbelievable how unprofessional these people are. We will NEVER shop there again.... this little rinky-dink store is soooo inbred with the local connections, it's ridiculous! Give your business to someone who actually cares... I know we will.

They have a TON of lights to choose from, many different styles, and plenty of catalogs to flip through. They'll also let you take a few home if you need some time to choose. In addition to lighting for every room in the house, they sell under-cabinet lighting, outdoor fixtures, and lots of ceiling fans too. For me, the catalogs are where it's at. I like mid-century modern style and there are plenty of fixtures in the Kichler catalog to suit my taste. Also, check out ET2 catalog.. wow! Susan helped us with our purchase and she was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The owner, Gary, was also really nice. We've already returned to order a new fixture for the guest bedroom. The staff is super knowledgeable and very helpful. We ordered custom lighting on 2 separate occasions and have had no problems. The lights arrived quickly and were perfect. After being referred to this shop by a coworker, I stopped by with my lamp. Mr. Dini and his son did an amazing job! The brass was cleaned and looked just like new when they finished. The rewiring job was immaculate. We also bought a new lampshade after browsing the vast selection available at the shop. The entire lamp looks as good as it did when it was made 50 years ago. A week and a half later I called and was told they came in "yesterday at 4". How convenient. I understand delays, I don't understand the lies and failure of keeping us informed of the delays. This is not the way customers should be treated. We will not be returning to Smithfield Lighting.
