We utilized Ferguson Transfer in June of 2010 for a cross-country move. They are affiliated with North American Van Lines, which is reputable, and they were also highly recommended by our coast guard friends who used them a year or two earlier. I think the Coast Guard uses them quite a bit actually, as they are located right beside their exchange on Ocean Blvd. Anyway, I arranged for them to do a walk-thru, and it went fairly well. The owner (Jim Cahill) was very polite and quick. I do wish he had gone over things a little more accurately, but we'll get into that in a sec.. The gal in their office (Julie) had a bit of an attitude from the start, and tho I met with her in person and over the phone multiple times, I never got the sense she would be a very nice person to deal with if things ended up going sideways for whatever reason. We proceeded anyway, based on recommendations from our close friends. Packing day rolled around and we had 2 guys come to pack up the last of our stuff. One older guy hung out in the kitchen, while a younger guy basically did the rest. Even after buying donuts & coffee for them, I was hard pressed to get so much as a smile from the older guy. Instead he aired his opinion about Coast Guard people getting their packing expenses paid for. Seems there was a chip on his shoulder that no amount of donuts was ever gonna fix. Moving day was the next day, and there was one guy who did the heavy lifting on move day while Sir Grumpy-pants returned & mainly stayed in the kitchen most the day. The guy moving stuff downstairs really did a great job, and I was impressed with how careful and methodical he was with our stuff. Very nice guy. Especially for a Beaver fan.. (J/K, J/K, lol!) There was one point while on our road trip, when we wanted to be sure we were still on track for the designated time frame. At that point, Julie's email reply started off with 'As I said', which is never a nice way to reassure someone paying you $6000+ that they're in good hands. Turns out even tho Jim had told both my b/f and myself that we would be hearing from the driver once they had our stuff into their freight system, that was not the case. There is no tracking as Jim told me, and there was no call from the driver once we were "in his system". So misinformation. And no apologies about it whatsoever either. Only an "As I said" followed by some backpedaling once I reminded her of exactly what she had (really) said. Not impressed. Once we got our stuff on the other side, the movers (who have nothing to do with Ferguson, as they are contracted thru NAVL, which wasn't even our long-haul carrier as it turns out) unloaded everything right where we wanted it with no problems other than a temporary issue with them finding parking for their 80ft truck. The surprises came later when unpacking boxes. We had everything from bleach wipes packed with peanut butter & vitamins, to toothbrushes just throw loosely into a box with other bathroom items. WTF? Also, I did my best to get rid of anything that was prohibited, even tho we never got a very clear idea of what those prohibited items were (and yes, I read the pamphlets). So why is it that when THEY are doing the packing, these "professionals" can't hold back items they know damn will can't go? I'm talking about shaving cream that exploded EVERYWHERE in my bathroom box. What, they didn't know to hold that back? Even I would've known, had I packed the bathroom contents. And I'm not a "professional" either. I also had a decorative bowl of various rocks (some very tiny), that just got thrown into a much large box. WTF? They couldn't put foil or at least enclose it in a ziploc? Really? When I called to complain about this, Julie not only refused to apologize, she blamed ME for not getting rid of the stuff ahead of time, and told me "if it's there, then they'll pack it". Really? Cleaning items with food? Aside from her evidently using the term "pack" lightly, what is the difference between me using these "professionals", and hiring a few kids off the street then? At least kids would've been stoked to get some donuts on moving day. Overall - They started out with 5 stars. Mainly because our stuff got packed up and moved right on schedule, and I will say it also arrived right on schedule. Nothing broke, nothing was lost. That's a thing to be grateful for when ya read some of the horror stories out there. They never changed the price on me at the last minute either. Again, that does happen with other companies. So for that Ferguson gets a 5 star rating. From there they lose 1 star for misinformation, 1 star for hideous packing, & yet another star for being indignant, argumentative & downright bitchy about said packing. I expected much better in terms of C/S. Bottom line? They will get your stuff from A to B. Whether they do it neatly, kindly and informatively is another matter. read more

We hired them on short notice. They were on time, busted their asses and got done expeditiously. My in-laws were moving to assisted living and it was a hard day. They made my mother in law laugh, and helped set up everything and even moved things around when she changed her mind. I would highly recommend them read more

I recently moved from California to Oregon and needed to have some items dropped off at where I was living temporarily and the rest stored until I found a permanent place to live. They did a less than good job, sent only two fellows to move our household and ended up scratching our wood floors. They lost 2 lamps, and to this date have not received them, 3 months later. Do yourself a favor and choose another company for your move, James Cahill is a smoother talker, but that is where it ends, I would never recommend them. read more

We contacted this company to arrange for a intrastate move approximately three weeks before the moving date. Their affiliation with North American Van Lines gave us a comfortable feeling about dealing with an unknown entity. Jim Cahill came to our home, spent 2 hours with us, took all information and inspected our household goods to be moved. A date was set, and we were told we would receive a confirmation by email. The confirmation was received, but without a "register" number, which we didn't realize was required. Long story short, one week prior to move date we were informed by an early morning phone call that the company was unable to book a qualified, intrastate driver for our date, so we should look elsewhere for our moving arrangements. We spent the next two days on the phone, scrambling to locate another company on short notice. This move was definitely not our "first rodeo" with long distance moves, as my husband's work required several moves over a period of 25 years. We have experience with North American, Mayflower, Beacon, and Wheaton. It was, however, the most unprofessional, rude, and completely unsatisfactory experience we have had to date. I used Ferguson to move from Coos Bay up the coast to Astoria in March 2016. I had to hire them on short notice due to a job switch and they were incredibly accommodating. I had to be out on the 1st of the next month and called on the 22nd. They scheduled a walk through for the 28th and despite not being able to actually move everything until the 6th they picked everything up on the 30th and stored it in their warehouse practically free of charge. The movers were very polite and were quick and efficient when putting everything in the truck and took care not to damage any of my furniture etc. (I boxed everything up myself to save money/make sure things I wanted packed together were packed together). They gave me an ETA for the 6th and were on time and got everything situated in my new place quickly and without complication. No damage and nothing broken. I would absolutely use them again. read more
