Beautiful cafe restaurant at avoca - and the MOST amazing pineapple cheesecake you have ever imagined. Yes, pineapple! I know - not the usual but soooooooo good, trust me and check out the picture. Always busy, so you better get a booking if you plan going in for the weekend or bank holidays.

Fern House Cafe is a lovely spot just off the N11 in Kilmacanogue adjacent to the Avoca Store (see note below about Google maps) . They serve breakfast, lunch, dinner It is more formal than the Avoca Cafe which is self-serve (also offering an excellent menu). We met a friend for breakfast (they open 9:30) the service, food and ambiance were very good. It feels as though you are dining in an elegant conservatory. If Fern House is booked for lunch/dinner there is a local new restaurant just south of Avoca at the Kilmacanogue roundabout called Pluck's, we had dinner there, it was very good (and not as pricey as Fern House), lovely ambiance (used to be Glencormac Inn). NOTE ON MAPPED LOCATION Google maps mapped the Fern House to a location south of the actual Avoca property. You need to search for AVOCA HEAD OFFICE Kilmacanogue Wicklow and it will map it correctly. Avoca's marketing team needs to get its act together and have their locations mapped correctly on Google. Searching for Avoca Cafe Kilmacanogue also maps to an incorrect location. I suppose the locals know where it is but for visitors, can be confusing.

This is just such a beautiful spot and is particularly enchanting at night. I have been here for lunch and dinner a number of times and have always enjoyed it. Last week's lunch visit was as good as ever. I had a duck leg confit salad with pomegranate, orange, lentils and mixed leaves in a balsamic dressing. It was a little heavy on the balsamic - which I love- but apart from that was pretty perfect. It was so filling too. For lunch they offer a few "mini dessert" options that are priced at €3.50 each. It's such a good idea, one I haven't come across before. I'm not a huge dessert person but I like a taste. That's exactly what this is for. I had an orange and chocolate mousse that was coated in crushed pistachio nuts. There were a bit too many pistachios on it for me, but the mousse was so tasty it made up for it. They have a nice children's menu and the portions are huge, as are all the other portions. The last time I was here for dinner I had a beautiful hake and sole en papillote. It was truly delicious and came with smoked mashed potato as a side which was great. The setting is the best thing about the place but that is in no way a criticism of the food.

I don't know where to start with Fothergills. We were fortunate to stay in one of the apartment…read morerooms above the cafe and were welcomed to a complimentary coffee and pastry for breakfast during our stay. The cafe is super cute; one side is more of a restaurant scene with tables, menu, and waitresses and waiters on hand. The other side is more of grabbing something quick to eat and/or drink. I've tried the raspberry muffin. It was so fresh and good words cannot even describe it. I'm more of a blueberry muffin person but being that was not an option at the time I chose raspberry and I did not regret it. My fiancé and I also tried the Irish breakfast (I posted a pic and noted what it consisted of). So awesome! A hearty breakfast was a great way to start a day of exploring in Dublin. The next day, I tried the croissant and scone. They pretty much melted in my mouth. As you walk in the cafe, you could smell how fresh everything was. Anyway, we had planned to drive to the Cliffs of Moher that day and decided to get a couple of sandwiches and saw they had a variety of choices to choose from. I ended up creating my own sandwich; it was super delicious! Even when we ate it hours later, it was still good. We tried the Irish cheese and onion chips and it blew my mind. It's similar to the sour cream and onion here in the states but a hundred times better. I found myself looking for more onion and cheese chips during my stay in Ireland. The cafe started open later than other cafes I'm used to but we never made it back in time. With good prices and great food we probably would have eaten breakfast, lunch, and dinner there. I would definitely visit this place again if I ever get the opportunity to return to Dublin. It made our visit a truly remarkable one.

Awah common... I'm on a diet!!! It's just not right that this sort of place exists; I have just put…read moreon 3 pounds just reviewing the photos I took! Yes, this is the enemy of the short fat and balding male rapidly reaching middle age, it is Fothergills, a shop filled with everything from a frankly obscene selection of the most appetising pastries known to man - including those squares of short bread covered with caramel and topped with chocolate.... Excuse me... I need a moment alone... Ahem... cakes... they do cakes as well and jam - I took pictures of the jam shelf, just to show you they take this sort of thing seriously... and quite right too.

Roberts of Dalkey - what can I say - best fish shop in Dalkey…read more.. The have recently started to sell coffee too which is great as they use the Badger and dodo beans.. and the Flat White from them isn't to bad either... :) they always have some amazing cheeses and other quirky food item not to mention pastries and bread..

What's not to love... This place is on the money! A great locally owned business that wins people…read moreover with not only the finest range of products and great knowledge of seafood but there customer service. Shopping here is always a pleasure. I really love the variety on the fish counter, has a person not so up on handling or prepping from scratch, I love how they have cuts available with all the messy stuff already done for you or in fact, fish all prepped and ready to cook having already been seasoned and marinated... Nothing to think about just straight into the pan or the oven. They often have great offers on and are only happy to share some cooking tips or tricks. Aside from the fish, they stock a host of other organic and free range produce, as well as locally sourced products - guilt free buying :-) They have a great cheese counter too.Great addition is the coffee machine, they are now serving badger & dodo bean coffee. Ok, so sometimes the coffee is not spot on but when it comes to Dalkey, this is definitely the best place to grab a coffee on the go. Also sampled their hot chocolate, yum yum!
