I don't know where to start with Fothergills. We were fortunate to stay in one of the apartment rooms above the cafe and were welcomed to a complimentary coffee and pastry for breakfast during our stay. The cafe is super cute; one side is more of a restaurant scene with tables, menu, and waitresses and waiters on hand. The other side is more of grabbing something quick to eat and/or drink. I've tried the raspberry muffin. It was so fresh and good words cannot even describe it. I'm more of a blueberry muffin person but being that was not an option at the time I chose raspberry and I did not regret it. My fiancé and I also tried the Irish breakfast (I posted a pic and noted what it consisted of). So awesome! A hearty breakfast was a great way to start a day of exploring in Dublin. The next day, I tried the croissant and scone. They pretty much melted in my mouth. As you walk in the cafe, you could smell how fresh everything was. Anyway, we had planned to drive to the Cliffs of Moher that day and decided to get a couple of sandwiches and saw they had a variety of choices to choose from. I ended up creating my own sandwich; it was super delicious! Even when we ate it hours later, it was still good. We tried the Irish cheese and onion chips and it blew my mind. It's similar to the sour cream and onion here in the states but a hundred times better. I found myself looking for more onion and cheese chips during my stay in Ireland. The cafe started open later than other cafes I'm used to but we never made it back in time. With good prices and great food we probably would have eaten breakfast, lunch, and dinner there. I would definitely visit this place again if I ever get the opportunity to return to Dublin. It made our visit a truly remarkable one. read more

Awah common... I'm on a diet!!! It's just not right that this sort of place exists; I have just put on 3 pounds just reviewing the photos I took! Yes, this is the enemy of the short fat and balding male rapidly reaching middle age, it is Fothergills, a shop filled with everything from a frankly obscene selection of the most appetising pastries known to man - including those squares of short bread covered with caramel and topped with chocolate.... Excuse me... I need a moment alone... Yes, sometimes Its a tough station being a Yekp scout, dib dib. No only do we have to review all of Dublin's most interesting and noteworthy places but more often then not try out some of the better restaurants and foodie places in this town. On foot of this, we have a street in Rathmines that has not one but three deli's. Fothergills is the smaller of the three and prob the least well stocked. As Food and Vine is a proper grocery/health shop so Fothergills is always gonna be the poor cousin. As well as the grub and some tasty looking cakes in the fridge at the entrance, it has a deli and all the posh food you could ever want. read more

Cakealicious! If you're looking for a mouth-watering cake for dessert, the selection here is delicious. How to choose between the almond tart and the lemon cheesecake you ask? Well you shouldn't. Buy both, you know they'll be finished in no time. The selection of pre-dinner nibbles is also plentiful. The cheese counter offers a myriad of tasty (and smelly) options and the shelves are stuffed with pesto, vinaigrettes, chutneys and coffee (the fancy stuff). Everything we had at Fothergills was delicious during our stay in Dublin. We were living in the apartments right above, so it was a convenient treat to have such a lovely cafe right outside our door. The coffee was strong and hot, the croissants were light and flaky, and the sandwiches and soups made for a great lunch before heading out to the town. This place is incredible! We stayed next door and even though I try to not repeat eat in the same location twice while traveling, I had Fothergills at least 4 times while staying in Dublin. EVERYTHING I had was great, and super friendly staff. You must try the lemon meringue roll, it was incredible. read more

Quentin is very right .. a place like Fothergills brings to mind the saying \a second on the lips a lifetime on the hips!', but what a glorious second that is. The shop is stocked with delicious goods, my favourite of course being the baked variety. The cupcakes are absolutely divine and make you want to go back for more. Since all the cakes/pies/pastries are all homemade, if you're feeling really cheeky it's a great place to buy a baked item and pass it off as your own ... not that I'm saying anybody would ever do that, but let's just say if you were in a jam! This is a rating for just one of their products. For every birthday party, family gathering, bar mitzvah and funeral (ok, maybe not the funeral) at our house, I am dispatched to procure a Gateau Dyanne from Fothergills. Comes in two sizes, big and guaranteed coronary. It is the most divine cake ever invented and well worth the nearly 30 quid for the heart attack version. Be warned, though, they're sold frozen and need to be thawed out gently for a few hours before consumption so not for the lat minute impulse buy. As a dessert after a hearty family meal, it can't be beat. read more

Having a child's birthday party or a load of friends over for a fancy dinner? Fothergills covers all these areas. Having grown up with it around the corner from me, I have a lot of experience of this bakery with its mouth-watering food. My mum has bought us birthday cakes that we will cherish as a childhood memory, with our names and 'happy birthday' iced on top. But she has also been able to pop down and pick up a dessert for a dinner party, that always receives many compliments at the end of the night. They sell rich chocolate cakes, apple tarts, lemon meringue pie and more heavenly desserts. You can drop into the store and buy these on the day or put one on order. What is great is that they also sell lovely jams and freshly baked croissants, cookies and muffins. The only problem I have about it (the reason it isn't 5 star) is that there can sometimes be long queues (I guess not a bad thing if you look at it one way!) and the staff aren't always the friendliest. This place is awesome I have stayed in his Studio apartment on both my visits to Dublin. The food is awesome the cakes and pastries were fantastic and the meals are very tasty. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. The people are really what makes this place. read more
