Our downstairs bathroom has been a mess since we purchased the house many years back. It became evident early on that the previous owner shoehorned the thing in to sell the house and made a multitude of questionable decisions while doing so. One of which, only tiling half of the shower, bit us recently when we had the windows replaced on the house. (Yes additionally there is a window right in the shower). After the window replacement (which included fixing a bunch of dryrot as a result of the improper tiling in the shower) we needed to get someone to perform the difficult task of tiling the rest of the shower, including wrapping the freshly installed window and while matching the existing tile. Fern not only matched the color but also the pattern, carrying forward all the oddities from the original install to make the addition seemless. The work was fast, the results are better than we had hoped and the price was great. The only downside I could note was that, due to the complexity of the job, we had to approve a Time and Materials quote but with a bit of extra communication with the estimator we were able to arrive at a reasonable expectation of what end cost would likely be. After all of that however the final cost came in under our calculated expectation which was a great surprise! We finally decided to do a kitchen renovation in our 70+year old house. Fern Tile had to be called out since the tiler originally contracted to do the kitchen fell behind. Fern Tile CAME TO THE RESCUE! They were amazing especially because our backsplash was a bit complicated and lots of cutting had to be done to make everything look nice. They laid out our flooring so beautifully- couldn't be happier. They were extremely neat and professional. They completed the job as promised in a short time and their crew was phenomenal. We are so very pleased with their work. The team took the time to look at the design of our mosaic tiles to piece them nicely especially where the electrical outlets were placed. Tom did a terrific job despite some mistakes plumbers made. He removed tile surrounding kitchen sink so a new one could be installed. My kitchen was in much needed refurbishing . I had the original tile from from 1940 ,when the house was built, and I wanted to maintain the original style. I did not now where to start. We needed our shower re-grouted. Fairly simple repair. No show, twice. The first time the lady didn't even call. I had to call and leave a message with someone in the office. Apparently she was stuck on an earlier job and didn't have my phone number. That says, poor time management and bad organization to me. She wanted to reschedule the appointment for the next day so I thought I'd give her another chance. Next day she calls me to ask to reschedule for the following week. Hmmm, doesn't really inspire a whole lot of confidence that she'll actually ever come does it? And this was just for the consultation, not even the actual work. No thank you. read more

Fern tile company just completed a complete tiling of my kitchen. They were professional on time and didn't outstanding job. The previous flooring was linoleum three layers, The linoleum was removed, cement board was put down, then the tiles were cut very precise and very accurate. Fern Tile Company does excellent work. They tiled the entry way and two connecting hallways of the nonresidence area of our building. There were eight exit doorways with protruding molding requiring precise cutting of tiles. The hallways were slightly higher over the entry way, a shallow water drain, and a curved platter had to be addressed. Tom, a master craftsman, engineered smoothing the elevation of the tiles to the hallways and raising the area around the drain. All now unnoticeable. The cutting of titles for the curve for the platter were perfect. Tom was supported by several other skilled workers. Tom and his crew were all easy to deal with and every night clean up the area. Fern Tile did all of the tile in our remodel. Three full bathrooms, kitchen, and laundry room. Overall they did a great job at a fair price. Great communication and very responsive. The best part of Fern tile are the people. Everyone I worked with from the owners to the installers to the helpers, they were all extremely easy to work with and listened to our needs. In many cases they made some great recommendations and were very helpful in coming up and providing solutions. Did I mention the people are the best? Early in the project they were putting up lath in our master shower. I popped in to check on things. Everything looked great. The lath was almost completed. The job site was also a ghost town as they went to the store to get some supplies. All I heard was a drip in the garage. So I went to investigate the drip. Water in the garage ceiling, right below the shower! I immediately called Connie and informed her that we had a problem. Of course, she immediately blamed her husband Tom for messing up. Good thing they have been married for 37 years. Tom came back in short order. He was in shock that he hit a pipe. But hey, it has been dry since the plumbing went in 6 months ago and its leaking now. Gotta point the finger at someone. Of course all of the piping is located on the completed side of the shower. Tom ripped out the fresh lath and we proceeded to find the source of the leak. In the end we let Tom off the hook. The guys who hung the drywall put a screw in one of the pipes. The hammering from the lath install loosened things and created a leak. It gets better...Tom was able to pull a favor and got a plumber over w/in the hour to fix the leak. They also fixed the walls and put it all back together at no charge! They took a bad situation that really wasn't their fault and made it right--no questions asked! That's first class. One little detail that I wish was handled better was the grout. In places where the grout butts up against a different material, it is starting to crack . These areas should have been caulked instead. None of the grout was sealed either. I ended up fixing these things on my own, but it would have been nice if it were included in the job. read more

I called Fern for a relatively minor bathroom retiling job, following some major dry rot work, because I had used them for another relatively small job fifteen or twenty years ago and was completely satisfied with it. I am again completely satisfied. They may take a little longer than they expect (What contractor doesn't take longer than anticipated?) but when they finish, the job is done right. It is worth noting that Tom Fernandez, the owner, did not do the work this time, but Mark, who did, was equally skillful. He found an unexpected anomaly in the job but it didn't faze him. The result, if anything, looks better than the original tile. And the price was right. You won't go wrong with Fern Tile. read more
