I love this place. If I have a home or garden project, Ferndale Ace Hardware is my go to store. This year alone they have helped me in finding materials for fixing my toilet, interior paint for our home office, random hardware, spackling, sanding and drywall tools. They really do have a little of everything here. The store has a good layout and its easy to navigate each department. I especially like that the shelves are not too high for me to reach. Being 5' 2", this is sometimes a challenge. The customer service is great. Sales associate Daniel (who I have had the most interactions with) is friendly, knowledgeable and is always able to answer my toughest questions. This store also serves free popcorn, and who doesn't like that! *Ace also deserves an honorable mention for their help with the local cat rescue organization. Be sure to check out the enclosure at the front of the store. Once again this Ace Hardware failed to help and treat customers with respect. I reviewed this store over one year ago and it's still the same crappy store with crappy unhappy and mean staff. Nobody seems happy to be there and it's a hassle for them to assist you. At all cost, stay away from this store and travel to Lynden or even Bellingham Ace Hardware. You will be much happier. Customer service is the worst here. Stood at the paint counter for ten minutes while the two women at the main register chatted it up with each other. Finally, Anne, the older woman, moved away from the register to go put something away and looked right at me, but didnt offer to help or get someone to help. Finally, I asked if someone could help me get some paint and Anne, in a condescending, syrupy sweet voice said "We'll get someone right over to help you!" She's always like this-rude and condescending to the women, but oh so nice to the men. Its pathetic. Later, as I was paying for my items and my coupon didnt work, Anne came over to help the cashier and said "we're just having one of those days" while giving me a dirty look. Every time I'm in there, she acts like its a personal insult to have to help anyone. Just retire already. While I was waiting, I saw no less than six people working at the store on a Tuesday afternoon, so if any employees actually cared to help out, it would be a well-staffed store. Instead its just a bunch of paid dead weight. There's an older gentleman there, I believe his name is Martin, who is wonderful-very helpful and knowledgeable, but the rest of the staff is miserable. Given the multiple reviews over a span of years about the same issue, its clear that the manager and owner dont care, so now I drive all the way out to Lynden and support that well stocked store and kind and knowledgeable staff. Most of the staff at Lynden Ace are high schoolers but have much higher maturity levels than pissy old Anne. read more

Customer service here is sub-par. Today I had an online order that was ready. I called as I was around the corner since reception there sucks. Young lady answered the phone and was snarky with me. Didn't let me finish and told me online orders need to be picked up in the store. Yeah, ya think! I'm trying to call as I'm 30 seconds away so I don't have to come into the store. I told the you girl on the phone that I will be around the back, ad it was water softener salts. The conversation was literally "ok" *hangup*. So I pull in around the back, waited about 5 minutes. Nothing... called again and said I'm around the back. "Ok, I'll send someone right out." Of fine. The young chap comes out. Grabs what I thought was my product, and went around the front. Not long after that, he came around the back. So apparently communication doesn't thrive at this place. The nice young man came and loaded the item into my car. I get home and he had loaded pool salts. Not water softener salts. If I had filled that softener tank with that, who knows if any damage to the appliances, or skin damage could have occurred. Since pool salts are to chlorinate the pool. I took the item back to swap the correct one, waited in line as there was someone ahead of me. I don't know if it was a supervisor at the other register, but she could have at least acknowledged me standing there and tell me someone will be right with me. Like, you see me, right? I get the product swapped, but no apology or anything. And seeing some of the other comments here, I think the owner needs to reevaluate the work atmosphere there, because it's so basic. I didn't feel welcomed. This needs to change. Until then, I'll go elsewhere. read more

Positives: reasonable prices. Negatives: complete lack of customer service. I asked an employee to help me with an item that was locked up, he said he'd send someone because he was going home. After 20 minutes of being actively ignored by no less than four employees (two women unpacking a box and chatting, two guys cutting a key and explaining endlessly how car keys work), I walked out. If you need an actual hardware store that has selection and service, invest the time in driving to Hardware Sales. You'll save time, money, and frustration. read more

I was in the area and needed a few items so I decided to stop by this location of Ace Hardware. For my first visit to this location, I found it to be customer service manual textbook! The employees are super helpful and caring and even if they are busy doing other tasks, it is clear that the customer is their foremost concern! Not just one employee mind you, but 3 in the less than 5 minutes I was in the store. The store is fully stocked of so many items that I could have easily browsed for a longer time but I was on a mission so I got what I needed and went in my way but not without first have a nice conversation with with cashier! Wow..what a friendly and convenient store!! I will definitely kee it on my radar and stop in again soon. read more

I recently moved here from California! The first time I went in the store I had no problems and everything was great! (I was wearing a full face of makeup). The next time I came in (with no makeup) the manager rushed me at the door telling me I needed to leave my purse with her or I wouldn't be allowed in. There was not a single sign in there that said to leave bags at the counter. The first time I had my purse as well and no one said a thing to me. I 100% believe it's because I didn't look as nice as I did and they were profiling me. That's 100% wrong and I will not be returning here. My dad who's a lifelong customer of this specific location also will not be returning. read more

Bought a vertical air conditioner through their website and apparently it was horizontal. The website had a false picture. Now I have to wait 6 weeks or more for a refund. The customer support representative on the phone seemed to think this was an acceptable way to treat someone. read more

Service is great. They almost always greet you and ask if they can help you find what you are looking for. Free popcorn for customers... can beat that. There is a good selection of the typical hardware store stuff from power tools to nails, and gardening supplies. Worth stopping at to save the drive to Bellingham. read more

Great service and it always smells like freshly made popcorn. They work with one of the local shelters and host a few cats who are looking for their forever home. Once when we were there someone recognized their friend's cat and we got to see the beginning steps of what would become a joyful reunion. It was kind of unexpectedly awesome to see when one is on an errand to buy nails and sponges. It feels more like a community hub than a hardware store. read more

I will not be going to here anymore. I went in for a simple gallon of paint. The young man behind the paint counter was unsure how to mix the paint and I was initially told that the color I wanted could not be mixed into the base. (It's was not a color match, but a simple color they were offering from Benjamin Moore) Two other older men must have overhead and came to help the younger man. They told him, yes it could be mixed, and showed him how. I questioned whether it was okay and said that I would be happy to switch bases if needed. They assured me it was fine. So they mixed the color, I bought it and was on my way. When I went home to paint, of course, it was not the right color. I had a previous gallon of the same paint color and knew what the color was supposed to look like. I returned to the store and informed them the color was not mixed correctly. No one even looked at or checked the paint, I was just told there is nothing they could do and if I wanted another gallon of paint, I would need to purchase another one! No chance I will trust them to mix my paint again, and the customer service is beyond poor. Telling a customer the cost is their loss, while the mistake was the stores, it not just bad business, but completely illogical. I don't know who is in charge of the Ferndale ACE but the employees need a lesson in customer service. I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Service is excellent, they always go above and beyond every time I shop here, which is quite frequent. The guys at paint department are especially helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. It's refreshing to go in with a project of any size and be able to speak with staff that actually know what they're talking about! They truly live up to their motto: "Ace. The helpful place". I came into the Ferndale Ace to make a few purchases. I had a question as to which product I should get. Customer Service was called, and a nice young man came to our call. Unfortunately, he was unable to answer our question. He was nice, professional, and courteous, but unable to help. We thanked him then headed for the exit to get our product elsewhere. On the way out, I paused to get a small bag of courtesy popcorn. I was immediately yelled at by the cashier. She stopped ringing up a customer in order to yell at me for having a courtesy bag of corn that at most cost .05 cent bag! I came to the store with every intention of purchasing something at Ace. I chose Ace specifically that day to make my purchase. I am sorry to have caused so much anger just for trying to purchase something at your store. I assure you it will NOT happen again. read more

Like so many others in Ferndale we were happy to see another well run business come to town. While the prices are a tad higher than nearby mega stores, the convenience and savings on time and gas is well worth shopping here. The staff has been always great to deal with and I genuinely enjoy shopping here. The Parking is also adequate, compared to many businesses in Ferndale. For a quick in and out, on a day when you have lots of chores to do, this is the place for you. read more

I came in to buy propane I was helped by a very nice guy and he was very polite But after I made my purchase I went outside and sat in the shade for less than 15 minutes I was approached by a lady who was working by the same counter I made my purchase at. She was trying to get me to leave the area even though I had just made a purchase and was waiting for my ride in the shade to avoid the 100 degree weather. I'm a little overweight and the sun does not fit well with big guys like me so i only wanted to sit down in the shade for 10 minutes while my ride was on the way. Right after she rudely told me to leave my ride even showed up. I won't give this a bad rating because of one ignorant worker I have never had a problem shopping at ace hardware the most helpful staff Ferndale has to offer and I mean it I was very impressed at the way the workers were happy to walk around and make sure every customer gets what they need. read more

Ferndale Ace is surprisingly awesome. I have always gotten good help there. Today when I went there to get some replacement bolts the older gentleman got me the right ones in about 30 seconds. Also, the stuff they sell isn't crerap. The bolts were ASTM A449, medium steel, which is about as good as they get until you jump to the much more expensive structural alloy steels. read more

ferndale ace is the best...since ii moved here five years ago, i have been there at least once a week. if they do not have it they order it..if i need guidance they have the people with the know how. if i come in confused and needy..somehow they figure out what my ramblings mean and i go home with a plan. today,Daniel saved my head from exploding once again..my new weedwhacker was digging a trench and only did that if i held it upside down and sideways...daniel told me how to adjust it and gave me a lifelin...just in case i could not make it work....sometimes an old lady just needs to know soomeone cares...so don't travel, buy it here...they will help and they have someone who can guide you in the right directiion. read more
