    Fish and chips, Fish burrito

Fantastic view and even better food if that's possible. Strongly getting anything that has fish, such as the burrito or the fish and chips. Both were phenomenal and the stars of the meal. Also got a pizza, but did not come close to beating the fish.

Stayed nearby at the Glen Oak. Came for a quick dinner and we had a great experience. Everyone was nice and helpful. Super attentive. The fireplace was a nice touch! The I had a couple of margaritas, as was recommended by the front desk at Glen Oaks, and they were delish!! Wings were great, my partner had a burger and truffle fries which he enjoyed and I had the fish tacos as recommended by one of the ladies there. Super tasty!!

So sad to see so many 4 star reviews - this is a gem. You're camping in Big Sur, there's plenty of restaurants, cell service, and accommodations. I think people have their expectations too high, but I was just grateful to have a solid meal with the best waitress & setting. Sitting on the patio was freaking fantastic, surrounded by lush redwoods, soft lights & heat lamps. The asada tacos with pickled onions were DELICIOUS - just what I needed - and the snores dessert was the perfect end to my night. Soooo peaceful. Christie / Kristie was an amazing waitress with a fantastic and bubbly attitude. One of the best there with such a fantastic laugh & personality. I love her! Hope everyone can enjoy the same experience!

I came here with friends on our first night for our glamping experience because we were all tired from packing and driving here. We got here a bit late closer to 830pm. So we checked in, dropped off our stuff in our tent cabin then headed over for some food. We came on trivia night which is nice for those that want to do trivia while camping. We didn't so we sat out on the patio where it turns out there are two camp cats! I can't remember their names and I didn't get a picture of both but it was a nice furry addition to our evening! It is something to keep in mind for anyone that has cat allergies. The cats were both friendly and will accept pets but won't purposely seek you out so don't worry! They do like to kind of beg for food but know that they aren't allowed any. So don't feed the cats! The ambiance out on the patio was perfect. There were plenty of space heaters so you don't need to worry about getting too cold in the redwoods. The string lights add to the ambiance and if you want to use the bathrooms, they are right in the middle and easy to access from the patio. We walked in and were seated pretty much immediately so no worries on that! Service was good! Definitely busy and they check on you occasionally without being too intrusive. Be aware that the drinks aren't refillable so enjoy but be aware if you're thirsty, have the water =) Finally, onto the food. I thought it was pretty decent for where you're at. I don't personally like shishito peppers but my friends do and they liked it! I ended up having nachos that were just a little too much for me but pretty tasty. I felt like they did a good job with topping to chip ratio and had it pretty well spread out so I didn't feel like I ran out of toppings too fast. We also shared their creme brulee which was pretty good! Not the best I've had but not bad at all. Overall, I thought it was a great experience to go to this place and it was nice to eat instead of having to unpack and cook on the first night there. It was a bit expensive but great overall! Would definitely recommend as the place to go if you get there and you don't want to cook the first night or just feel like getting a little more of city life versus camping life.

Ambience! 2 fire tables... with general seating- not shown

Surprise! Great pizza here. We stopped in for a drink with no idea what to expect. The outdoor patio has trees through the deck, fires pits and relaxing night time lighting. We stayed for a couple hours and ended up feeling hungry. We ordered a pizza, with no expectation. Out came a very delicious wood fired thin crust pizza. The sauce was especially light, well balanced with basil , garlic and tomato. Cheese and topping were fresh. Great experience. Too bad we didn't get a photo of that pizza! Service was typical for the area- friendly- but very chill/relaxed, so don't be uppity :)

The back deck was so nice to sit at. Overlooked the forest, had cozy lighting, and heat lamps. We got the burger, taquitos, and a silver something moquito (cant remember name). Everything was good, the burger especially was very good. I personally liked that my side salad wasn't just shredded red onion and iceburg lettuce, it was the real deal with mixed greens and great toppings. Service was laid back but attentive. Overall great experience. Loved the resident cat Coco.

Food: 3.5/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Overall: It's a good option to eat while in the area. If it's a nice sunny day I'd highly suggest the patio. The extended review... Food: Cheeseburger Burrito - 3.5/5 - This was pretty darn good I'd say. Literally all the fixins of a burger wrapped up and easy to eat. Service: 4/5 - Friendly service. Ambiance: 5/5 - We ate on the patio and it was amazing. You are basically eating in a forest which is amazing on a nice warm sunny day.

Nice little spot with amazing food, service and quite ambiance. We tried the fish and chips, pesto garlic pasta, pizza and kids hotdog. The appetizer we tried was the mazo platter, def try that!!!

Fantastic food, service, and views. We got the fish tacos and ate on the back patio. They were delicious, and our server Kara was great. Definitely going to visit again sometime.

Epic, absolutely epic! So we're tooling north on 1 enjoying the amazing views when nighttime sneaks up on us. We hit the mother lode when we pulled into the Fernwood Tavern/Restaurant/Motel/Grocery/Store. The 1 is scary at night if you've never driven it so we were lucky to find the Fernwood. We got their overflow room that they only rent out when the place is totally packed, while teeny tiny with no tv the room is spotless and reasonably priced. The restaurant is straight out of an LL Bean catalog, rustic yet comfortable. We shared the Tri-tip nachos and I was surprised how good they were plus the Bud Light was cold so basically this place was perfect. We got the overflow room which they only rent out when every other room is gone, it's absolutely tiny but very clean and comfortable. If you're in the area stop in, you can thank me later.

    Buffalo chicken salad.

Their menu was limited and not very good. The best thing we are was their pizza. Their salad was not good, their burger was dry and their wings were kind of gross. At least the staff was nice.

    Mold and water damage.
    Joseph D.

I stayed a night in one of what they called there upgraded rooms. It was nothing more than a shack. No TV, No mini fridge, No microwave, No air-conditioner, The WiFi only works if you're standing in the check in office, The bathroom smell of mold! Most likely due to the large amount of water damage around shower. The floor is badly sloped down hill to the back off the room. Be careful you may roll out of bed if you ever fall asleep. I suspect the building may be sliding down the hillside! It's mind boggling that they charge $220 a night to stay here. If you have a decent size vehicle you maybe better off sleeping in it.

    An amazing Tri-trip sammich.

The views are absolutely breathtaking, the restaurant is spotless, and even the restrooms were immaculate. You can tell they take pride in every detail. The service was exceptional. My son is a very picky eater and pretty much only eats salmon and Wendy's nuggets. Even though salmon wasn't on the menu, the staff went above and beyond to make it happen for him, seasoned simply with salt and pepper and cooked extra well done. He loved every bite. That level of customer service is hard to find. The food was outstanding, the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, and the general manager was genuinely kind. They were even hosting a private event, yet still found a way to make room for us and made us feel completely welcome instead of rushed. This unexpected side quest ended up being one of the highlights of our drive along the coast. Amazing food, incredible service, unforgettable ocean views, and a team that truly cares about its guests. I would absolutely recommend Sur House to anyone in the area, and I'll definitely be back the next time I'm driving through.

We got lucky and seated at the terrace on this misty weekday evening. There's a NY strip off menu which was perfect. It had chimichurri, trumpet mushrooms, whole grilled onions, and mushroom sauce. My husband doesn't even like mushrooms but he enjoyed this entree. The halibut was so delicious. The flavors and texture was everything. High quality fresh ingredients. The citrus butte black was incredible. Even the guy seated at another table behind me said that he was doing everything not to lick the plate. I assume he was talking about this dish. Lol. The view was good but foggy, the food was great, although I would have loved if the restaurant provided something special or any little thing to make it memorable for celebrating our milestone here.

The vibes are here but it all stops there…read more.. Let me start by saying that I love this place. Just needs a bit of cleaning up on their transparency. The 'keep it open' policy is something I appreciate but would also appreciate an itemized receipt when you close out. Here's why to keep your eye out when drinking at this establishment. 1- when you close out, it's helpful to verify what you consumed to ensure you're corrected charged. My receipt was the merchant copy and the customer copy. Itemized? Really had to ask for it. 2- the merchant copy - it asked for a tip and the total amount. When we closed out our beer and well drink, it was ~$28. Weird, right? So my thought was that they clearly charged something incorrect. 3- when there's something automatically charged, it had better be communicated to me upfront. The gratuity was automatically added and IT WAS 20%! No sign, no way to notify me that it was already added. It didn't even say so on the merchant or customer copy. On top of that, the copy asked for AN ADDITIONAL TIP. For something like that, I had better get great service. 4- The service here is spotty at best. There's usually one bartender for the often busy bar. Not a problem, usually. But with that high of a price, better serve your customers well and have a fully stocked bar. 5 - the options were lacking. Two things you'd think would be stocked but weren't - espresso (come on, even Kahlua) and apple liqueur for an espresso martini and appletini were too much to ask for, I guess. Overall, a disappointment. Good thing they have the vibes nearly right. But awful business practices.

Our waitress Rachel was great and took good care of us. We ordered the French dip (added Swiss, onions, and mushrooms) solid sandwich, though it could've used a touch more salt. The real star though, was the fish and chips. Genuinely some of the best I've ever had. Lightly battered, flaky, perfectly cooked. The vibe lands in that sweet spot of upscale casual without crossing into fine dining, comfortable but elevated. Highly recommend if you're passing through Carmel. We'll definitely be back.

The fish and chips is the ultimate meal. The burger was savory, soft and creamy just he right amount. It perfectly paired with the Talbott pinot noir they recommended. The only comment is make is the amount of French fries that were served with the burger. The plate was a lot larger looking because a sparse amount of fries was served alongside. Maybe add a little more next time just to balance it off. The servers/bartenders knew their stuff. They provided what they could in terms of what was popular and well liked. They said both items we ordered were the most popular. The fish and chips have won best fish and chips 3 years in a row. I would agree with this since I usually am not wowed with this dish. I couldn't resist ordering a dessert. The applied tart with vanilla ice cream was so satisfying. Overall service, food quality and experience was very good. After him telling me that he was staying at a Hotel in Carmel, he was advised by the Hotel to come here because the view and the food were wonderful, so we followed through with that recommendation. After driving in, and finding a place to park, and the place where you can actually park is that once you get into the Restaurant area where there is Valet parking, you actually drive up a bit past the Valet and then take an immediate left to go behind the Hotel rooms that are on the left hand side and you can park anywhere there. From there its about a 2 to 5 minute walk to the Restaurant that is also a part of the Hyatt Hotel. Before walking down to the Restaurant I actually took a stunning picture from a View where I was able to park which is attached to this review. After walking up stairs to meet my wife we walked inside and approached the Hostess at the time our Reservation was. After being seated I explained that the rest of my Family would be walking in and then they would just come over to our table. After they arrived we sat down and were greeted by our Waiter who then introduced himself to us and asked what we wanted to drink. My wife and I ordered a Sprite and a Dr. Pepper and my Brothers Family all ordered water. After sitting for about another minute or 2, the waiter came over with our Drinks and then asked what Entree's we would like. I ordered the Spinach Artichoke Ravioli and my Wife ordered a Spring Salad with a Dungeness Crab Cake. My Brothers Family ordered the Short Rib and the Bread and explained that the Water didnt taste very well but it was drinkable. The waiter I must say was very attentive to our needs and if you get an opportunity to have a conversation with Andrea who is the Food And Beverage Manager, let me tell you how pleasant she was. Not only was she very friendly and professional but also asked us if we wanted to take pictures outside of our Family because she knew exactly where the best pictures to be taken were. I have to agree that the pictures outside of the Restaurant on the lanai are very Beautiful and if you get her to help you take the pictures, you'll be very satisfied. A little bit after we received the bread, we received our Entrees and let me tell you that our food, the view and the service was absolutely wonderful. This place doesnt deserve a 5 star, it deserves a 10. However, the only thing I was very unhappy about is while the pricing is a bit high, the portions are a bit small. None the less, everything else was wonderful. Thank you to Andrea & Staff for making this Family of 6 very happy.
