The ambience is fantastic, dimly lit with great music and TVs everywhere, the kind of place I'd love to come back to and watch a game. Service was excellent. Our waitress Rachel was great and took good care of us. We ordered the French dip (added Swiss, onions, and mushrooms) solid sandwich, though it could've used a touch more salt. The real star though, was the fish and chips. Genuinely some of the best I've ever had. Lightly battered, flaky, perfectly cooked. The vibe lands in that sweet spot of upscale casual without crossing into fine dining, comfortable but elevated. Highly recommend if you're passing through Carmel. Lunch after a beach walk was just what we were looking for. Walk in and find a seat. Music and ambiance brought a nice vibe the whole time we were here. Food is tops. The fish and chips is the ultimate meal. The burger was savory, soft and creamy just he right amount. It perfectly paired with the Talbott pinot noir they recommended. The only comment is make is the amount of French fries that were served with the burger. The plate was a lot larger looking because a sparse amount of fries was served alongside. Maybe add a little more next time just to balance it off. The servers/bartenders knew their stuff. They provided what they could in terms of what was popular and well liked. They said both items we ordered were the most popular. The fish and chips have won best fish and chips 3 years in a row. I would agree with this since I usually am not wowed with this dish. Came here because my friends love the fish and chips - which were good, but not my go to. We started with the fried calamari and truffle fries. Calamari was very lightly breaded and maybe it was timing but not as crisp of breading as I prefer. That said, it tasted good- I just prefer more crunch. The truffle fries were GREAT. Extra crispy, perfectly salted and seasoned w truffle. I shared the nicoise salad and roast beef sliders - the salad was good, the meat of the sliders was good and the crispy onions were a nice touch. The actual sliders were a tad dry. I think an au jus would've paired perfectly with this and resolved any dryness problem. My boyfriend got the Brophy's burger - extremely cheesy and loved the mushrooms. I love the vibe at Brophy's. I stopped by last night for a beer and appetizer. This was my second time here , and I really enjoyed the food again. My wife and I shared the grilled cheese and tomato soup. I can't tell you how good this classic combo is at Brophy's. The blend of cheeses hold up on the sturdy bread ,and the tomato soup is the best that I have ever tried. The soup was not too acidic , and the flavor was spot on. Absolutely love this place. It was recommended by our hotel, La Playa. We paid a visit just about every day of our trip, whether just to have a beer and a snack or have lunch and watch a World Cup game. All of the food is good! Spent a day in Carmel with some girlfriends and we werelooking for a low-key lunch spot. This popped up on Yelp and thought we would give it a try. When we got there it wasn't very busy and so we were seated immediately. Place has a lot of charm and old school pub vibes. A friend and I shared the Tavern burger and an order of the short rib fries. The burger patty was hearty at probably half a pound and had delicious oven roasted tomatoes and blue cheese. The short rib fries were fantastic. Plenty of tender and flavorful meat on them also. Prices were very reasonable for what you get and the service was fast and friendly too. Walked to Brophy's for a quick dinner and it turned out to be one of the best meals we had in Carmel. Excellent service, cozy bar atmosphere, and outstanding food. We ordered the sliders, pretzel, calamari, and fish and chips. Everything was really good - calamari was tender, pretzel was salty and had the perfect dips, and the sliders were juicy. The star was for sure the fish and chips. They don't look like much (just your average fish and chips) but the fish was so flaky and hot and tasted super fresh. Almost melted in your mouth. We walked to the restaurant from our hotel and went in the wrong direction, but quickly figured it out, and was happily working our way to this highly rated place to eat. We were very hungry. We walked in and waited behind another couple for a few minutes. The bartender directed us to a table that looked like someone started cleaning it and got interrupted. We stood there for a while hoping that an employee would notice. It was only one waitress and she looked to be very busy. Nobody came to finish cleaning the table. Eventually, my husband went back over to the bartender and informed her the table was not ready. She said "the server is over there" and she seemed to be including the people at the bar in the conversation to get them in agreement that it wasn't her job...My husband and I decided as being the only people of color that was in the restaurant that we'd just leave because it felt uncomfortable it felt racist to us. I don't ever play the race card, but I don't know how else to describe how we felt and was treated...I don't know if the food is good, but the service was horrible. I got a 32 ounce IPA and my wife got The Rapinoe. The 32 ounce IPA comes in a massive chalice, and it was fun to drink out of. The Rapinoe came in a stylish glass. We both enjoyed our drinks, and decided to order some finger food. We were torn between fries and the giant pretzel, and ended up choosing the pretzel. It came with two generous portions of cream cheese and mustard. The pretzel was perfectly hot, soft, and well-salted. Honestly, it was one of the best pretzels we've had. Went on my first solo trip to Carmel and stopped by this place because I wanted some fish and chips. Some of the previous reviews were a little mixed but I wanted to try it out for myself. The service was so friendly and kind, as soon as I walked in the waitress told me I could sit wherever I liked and she immediately got my drink order. I had a modification request and she made sure to do that for me. The drink was a very strong 10/10. I made another special request for my food. I asked that it be prepared EXTRA crispy and that was also taken into account. The fries were crisp and salty and cooked perfectly, the fish definitely had a fishy smell but flavor wise tasted relatively fresh. It was crisped to perfection. The sauce and slaw were delicious. We stayed at The Hotel Carmel, which is attached to Brophy's. We had lunch at the restaurant. If you go, you couldn't do better than to order the fish and chips. Hot, melt-in-your-mouth yumminess. The servers are helpful-ask them where to go in the city. They also supply a nice spread for the hotel's complimentary breakfast. There are four booths, bar stools, and high tops. We were looking for a restaurant sign and there were not a big sign, we kept drove past it and still could not find the restaurant until we pulled over and asked someone. It is in the same parking lot as the hotel parking. Once we get inside, it was all good. The service was great. The burger was loaded with cheese, bacon, and mushrooms can't go wrong with these additions, all generously portioned and delicious. I've had battered fish that was either too thick, not crispy enough, or the batter would separate from the fish. This fish and chips was not that at all. I didn't even need vinegar (but there's some at the table if you want some), but this is the best fish and chips I've had. Came with thick cut steak fries, tartar sauce and coleslaw. I got the prime rib french dip sandwich. It was perfect. I got asked if I wanted any grilled onions or mushrooms, and cheese on it. I agreed on grilled onions and provolone, made the sandwich super good. They didn't mention there was an extra charge for it but I will let it pass since it was good. I came back here to pay a visit for the short rib fries during a visit to Monterey Bay Area. The staff is very friendly. A great place to the food is good and not extremely pricey. The space is airy, the colours of the interior paint are pleasing, and the decor is uniformly good: I much enjoyed seeing the gorgeous 48 stars and stripes stitched flag flying in the game room, and the old red ensign hanging next to the door, an American rugby league team tour of Australia in the 1950s (?!), tasteful bookshelves, etc. It is quite the achievement for the decor to never show the sad dilapidation that many pubs decline into. The sofas were lovely, the chairs were seriously comfortable, and the jukebox was in good working order. The beer menu is excellent, with many Belgian imports being offered at reasonable prices. The fish and chips were excellent: the fish was a juicy cut of halibut, the breading was light and crisp, the coleslaw sauced generously, and the slice of lemon was huge. Very enjoyable. read more

Very rude waitstaff. Gave my family and I attitude when we asked if there was a table available. It was the big tall lady. I worked in the restaurant industry for a long time and if I seen someone standing by the sign that says "wait to be seated" for 10 minutes I'd at least acknowledge them. Mind you the sign is close to the door. The place isn't large enough to not see people walk in. Idk if the bad reviews are about the bad and rude service, I would look to change some things.
