Typical tavern decor and welcoming vibe
    Pallavi P.

A welcoming vibe and good service. It's away from the buzz of the main Street, which makes parking less challenging. The menu has typical pub fare and is a bit limited, but works. We got the buffalo chicken sandwich with fries and the filter mignon sliders. Food was flavorful, if somewhat typical. The fries were noteworthy. Our server was friendly and well informed, and made our experience more enjoyable. They have a large collection of beers, so you may want to stop by to check those out!

We came in around 3, after sightseeing. We were greeted by a friendly waitress and promptly seated. We weren't super hungry, so we ordered some drinks. I got a 32 ounce IPA and my wife got The Rapinoe. The 32 ounce IPA comes in a massive chalice, and it was fun to drink out of. The Rapinoe came in a stylish glass. We both enjoyed our drinks, and decided to order some finger food. We were torn between fries and the giant pretzel, and ended up choosing the pretzel. It came with two generous portions of cream cheese and mustard. The pretzel was perfectly hot, soft, and well-salted. Honestly, it was one of the best pretzels we've had. It fit the vibe of the restaurant. Aesthetics wise, it was like a low key pub that has good beer and good food. It was a great time and we would come again for either food or drinks.

    French Dip

Food I love French dips, so I like to try them at places I've never been. The cut of the meat and the freshness of the bread really made the sandwich. The fries were seasoned well and had good texture, too! The sandwich came served with a side of horseradish. My husband was pleased with his burger, but mostly commented on the fries. They were definitely noteworthy. Service Our server was nice, but she felt swamped. Sometimes it took a while for her to get back to us. Ambiance It's a tavern - loud, dark, local photos and beer can decor, and mostly high top seating. A perk about this restaurant is that it's outside of the downtown area, so it's a bit less competitive for parking.

    Sliders, pretzel, and calamari

Walked to Brophy's for a quick dinner and it turned out to be one of the best meals we had in Carmel. Excellent service, cozy bar atmosphere, and outstanding food. We ordered the sliders, pretzel, calamari, and fish and chips. Everything was really good - calamari was tender, pretzel was salty and had the perfect dips, and the sliders were juicy. The star was for sure the fish and chips. They don't look like much (just your average fish and chips) but the fish was so flaky and hot and tasted super fresh. Almost melted in your mouth. The chips were crazy... I don't like steak cut fries but these were also super fresh and crunchy and soft inside. Sooooo delicious you can't go to Carmel without trying Brophy's!

    Filet mignon sliders Truffle fries

Something about this place gave me an ick. My friend and I dined in on one of the warmer Carmel days and the interior of this place was hotter than outside. It was hot and stuffy and we were sat at a larger table shared with a family that clearly did not want to share. My friend and I shared the truffle fries and the filet mignon sliders. The truffle fries were hardly truffle, I could barely taste/smell it. The sliders were something else.. The meat had that flavor of meat that is almost as if it is boiled in its own juices. It was not seasoned at all and had one bland chewy taste and consistency. It grossed me out so bad. It was pretty busy so our server left us unchecked for a while. While sitting there I noticed there were many drunk people just walking around the place and going into the pool room. Mind you it was around 2pm.

Grilled cheese sandwich with Tomato Bisque
    Randall N.

I didn't think it was possible for a grilled cheese sandwich to exceed my expectations, but here we are. I'd spent the morning hiking around Pfeiffer Beach and arrived in Carmel in the early afternoon. I was looking for basic sustenance. On the menu it didn't appear fancy-- a basic grilled cheese sandwich with tomato bisque. The combination was delivered to my table hot and fresh. I waited for a few minutes so as to avoid burning my tongue. I observed the bread was crispy, and the cheese combination was nicely melted. The bisque had a nice aroma. The first bite of sandwich was perfection, and following it up with a spoonful of bisque was pure rapture. I was impressed by a humble grilled cheese sandwich because it was made to perfection.

All the food was delicious! Service was great! All the wait staff were very friendly and polite. Such a cute place! Very chill and cozy. Definitely will be back!

    Steak taco salad

Great cool "Cheers"atmosphere. Tasty food and service was on point. We started with the calamari appetizer which was delicious. I had the steak taco salad which was just the right lunch size. Wifey had the prime rib French dip. Everything tasted great. A little pricey for the portion size but it is Carmel. Would definitely recommend for lunch or drinks.

Ordered: - Brophy burger (5/5): A classic burger with pickles on the top. The patty was cooked to a medium and was delicious alongside the crispy fries. No complaints. - Grilled cheese with tomato bisque (5/5): We loved the tomato bisque as it was creamy but not too heavy and the perfect level of acidity. Grilled cheese could've done with a little more cheese but it wasn't too greasy. The combination here worked really well and had a great portion size. Overall (5/5): This place is great for classic, well made dishes and large portions for a good price. We went on a Saturday afternoon during football season and loved the genuine pub energy with the bustling noise, delicious food, and liveliness. Seats were a little cramped and service was a bit slow because there were only two servers but they were very friendly and we loved the experience overall. Given this was an Irish pub in Carmel, my gf and I were the only POC but not once did we feel uncomfortable. In fact we loved that it felt like we had a private space and weren't rushed off our table even though there was a wait for the place.

    Fish and chips

Went on my first solo trip to Carmel and stopped by this place because I wanted some fish and chips. Some of the previous reviews were a little mixed but I wanted to try it out for myself. The service was so friendly and kind, as soon as I walked in the waitress told me I could sit wherever I liked and she immediately got my drink order. I had a modification request and she made sure to do that for me. The drink was a very strong 10/10. I made another special request for my food. I asked that it be prepared EXTRA crispy and that was also taken into account. The fries were crisp and salty and cooked perfectly, the fish definitely had a fishy smell but flavor wise tasted relatively fresh. It was crisped to perfection. The sauce and slaw were delicious. I really enjoyed this place and overall would return.

We rented a cottage one block from this super cute neighborhood tavern. Showed up on a busy Saturday night but managed to get a great table in 2 minutes. Devin was a fantastic server! And dinner was beyond great! We ordered wings, sliders and tomato bisque soup. It was all so good! Wish we had something like this near our home. We'd be there weekly!

We stopped by for some burgers for dinner. This place was a 3.5. Service was very friendly and attentive. The burgers were a little dry and the fries were over salted, although fried really well. Burgers with fries were about $22-25. We tried the brophys and classic cheese burger. People were there to watch a football game. There a bar and lots of tvs. Easy dinner spot in Carmel by the sea. You can walk around the shops after. Street parking was free the Sunday night we were there.

A quick pivot to change our lunch plans while on holiday in Carmel, CA: ended up being really great…read morefor our party of three. Founded in Monterey in 2014, Alvarado Street Brewery expanded its production and its restaurants to meet demand. This location in the Carmel Plaza Shopping Center opened in 2018, and they do produce beer here, though their main production and canning happens at their original Monterey and expanded Salinas plants. They also have a new beer garden at the new soccer stadium in Marina. We waited around at the mall until it opened at 11:30. Service was excellent all-around, with us being seated right away, and our server, Ian, providing some top-notch recommendations for both food and beer. I asked him about their flights, which were the standard 5 oz pours, and individually priced. But he mentioned that if I ordered their promotional deal (in this case, their Korean-style loco moco), it would come with a flight of their 4 core beers. He had me sold as soon as he said 'loco moco'. Everything came out on-time, and served at the right temperature as appropriate. 4 beer flight (included with loco moco plate) - flagship Monterey Beer (American Light Lager, brewed at their Salinas plant); Pilsner (German-style Pilsner, also brewed at their Salinas plant); Mai Tai (American IPA, Salinas); Howzit Punch (fruited sour, modeled after Hawaiian POG). All of the beers were really good. with the Howzit being the most liked, not only on principle (we really love Hawaii) but also on taste. Korean-Style Loco Moco ($25) - when told that the white rice on a traditional loco moco was being replaced by kimchi fried rice, my original reaction was 'Dang...why didn't I think of that'. It was a beautiful looking dish, for sure. In terms of taste, just OK. The rice wasn't great, and the hamburger patty was OK (a bit dry). But the over-easy egg added a nice level of richness and the gravy fit the dish. The strips of gim (seaweed sheets) was a great touch and appreciated. Roasted Drunken Half Chicken ($33) - another great looking dish: a cut up half chicken with a ton of crisping done on the skin. It came with two dipping sauces (a bbq and a butter based), along with pickled vegetables on the side, and a jalapeno biscuit. My wife loved the biscuit and didn't need the extra butter. The chicken looked dry though, and she confirmed it. The dark meat was OK, but the white meat was very dry, confirming that one needs to use the bbq sauce and the pickled vegetables to counteract that. Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich ($20) - my mother-in-law loved this, and she proved it by eating it all (though it could have something to do with all the walking we did in the morning). I enjoyed the fresh cole slaw (tart with a nice mix of vegetables). And all of us really enjoyed the fries...again proving that food service frozen fries can be marvelous if deep fried (and served) properly. My wife and I both agreed that the Mai Tai PA and Howzit Punch were really good and worth bringing back home so got a 4-pack of each ($16 each). Haven't had a chance to try it at home yet, but will do so when wanting to remember our trip.

There are plenty of amazing places to eat in Carmel, but this is a hidden gem. It's practically hidden away in a plaza with an outdoor patio, but there is plenty of indoor seating as well parking of course can be tricky in this area, but you shouldn't have to walk more than a block or two. I've been to other Alvarado Street brewery locations, but they each independently run and this one is by far my favorite. They always have different things on the menu to eat and drink and we are always satisfied. My +1 has a go to salad with raw beets in it, and I usually prefer something meatier. This time I went for a brisket sandwich, which was a little bit greasy (as expected) but was incredible. The meat was cooked to perfection and it paired well with the brioche bun and whatever sauce they put on it. We also had a calamari appetizer, which was elevated with some furikake seasoning. The beers, of course were absolutely delicious. I tried one of their sours and a barley wine. My +1 opted for a stout. The flavors are always changing, so we never know what we're going to get to try the next time we visit. If elevated bar food and craft beer, sounds like a good time to you, I would recommend this place in a heartbeat!

For Father's Day, I decided to take my husband for the 1st time for Father's Day. I asked for a spicy margarita and the waiter said, "The kitchen has not peppers." I asked, "If instead of the sides that come with my steak, could I just get a naked simple salad... just a bunch of leaves?" He said, "They do not do substitutions." I told him that they've done it before. I told him I was just there last November. I asked the waitress. She said she'd ask the chef. When she came back, she said it's one of their normal salads that are premade and if that was ok. I said, "yes. Thank you." There was no charge. The waitress made me feel like she wanted to help and actually did. Our waiter last night said that if I want a salad, I'd have to order salad for the regular salad price. Then, he said they found peppers in the kitchen and could make my margarita spicy. Admittedly, initially, I was shocked the kitchen didn't have any peppers, a Michelin Guide restaurant. This waiter was terrible and acted like he did not want to help. I ordered brocollini instead bc it was cheaper than having to order an additional salad. The waiter apologized and asked if I read the no substitution rule on the menu... Really? The waiter said we have never done substitutions before. This surprised me bc they did for me last November. My toddler is sitting next to me. I don't have the luxury or want to read an entire menu. He said the chef would come out to talk to me. I was find with that in fact wanted that to happen. The chef never came out to talk to us. I will never come back to this restaurant. I'm sad bc I run the Monterey Half every year and this was a treat to myself. But never again. Sad to want to share a nice place to my husband for Father's Day and to have a terrible waiter and experience in what was supposed be magical as every time I've been here before.

I usually only do positive reviews, but I had to share how put-off I was with my family's…read moreexperience here. When we originally walked in there were very few parties seated. We had a party of nine. Shortly after we were seated, a party of well-dressed ladies that the employees seemed to be familiar with, so I can only guess they were "regulars", arrived. When we first got there, it was fine, but once the other party arrived, we were completely cast aside. We ordered two cups of coffee that we observed an employee walk around with for 20 minutes, stopping to chat , before he plopped it down on a counter before our server brought it to our table. Needless to say, it was already cold. As far as other drinks, we didn't order any. We all drank water and we weren't offered a refill literally until the end when we were almost done with our meal. They were tending to the other party the entire time. When I saw that the other party received all their meals before we did - even though we were there, seated and ordered before they were, I stopped what I can only guess was the manager (dare I say an owner?) and said, "Excuse me sir, we got here before the other party and they've already gotten their food, and we're still waiting." His response was not, "I'm sorry it's taking so long. Let me check on it." Or "I know it's been a while, your food is coming right out." He actually said to me in an irritated tone, "Well because they got all fried food and you got all grilled!" And walked away. And here's the kicker - all our food wasn't grilled. Most of us ordered salads. Granted one had chicken and one had salmon, but who says this to a customer? I honestly wouldn't have cared so much about getting our food after the other party had he responded differently but for someone in the food service industry to treat a customer that way is just gross; for someone to run a business that way is just gross. I wanted to walk out of there without paying, because honestly, the food was gross and the service made it even worse. We got an order of egg rolls (that were all lumpia wrapper with no meat, by the way), my Caesar salad? Every piece of lettuce in my salad was the core, so I pretty much picked out the chicken, and to top it off we ordered clams, which wasn't even part of the delay because they forgot to include it in the order all together. Don't even get me started about how he couldn't answer the question about the menu. I'm Filipino, and that was an insult to Filipino food and to Filipino hospitality. I have so many family and friends in the food service industry and for this reason, I have never given less than 20% gratuity. I cringed doing that here, but I honestly wanted to leave nothing. That's how bad the taste Edwin's left in my mouth. Do better next time. No matter who enters your restaurant, treat all your customers with some warmth, no matter who they are, even if they aren't your regulars, don't make out-of-towners feel like you're doing THEM a favor by LETTING you feed them. Everyone who enters your doors helps keeps your doors open. They have a lot of restaurant choices in the area. Don't make them regret choosing yours.

I really wanted to love this place…read more We came across this cute corner spot in Carmel flying a Filipino flag, and as a Filipino myself, I was so excited to see Filipino food represented here. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to that excitement. After being seated with menus, we waited about 15 minutes without anyone checking in, offering water, or asking for a drink order. It honestly felt like we had walked into a private gathering, as staff were engaged in long conversations with other tables. Since we were already pretty hungry and hadn't even received water, we decided to leave, so I can't comment on the food itself. This is a bit of a late review, as the visit happened just shy of New Year's Eve. To be fair, they may have been understaffed or we came on an off day, but it was still disappointing. I hope others have a better experience.

Chose this place off the cuff and was really impressed with how good it was. We came with a party…read moreof 11 and was seated within the hour and we got our food relatively fast. We got the patty melt fries and a banana walnut pancake and I got the tuna melt and a side of chilli. The brisket chilli was really really good, and the sandwiches were amazing. The pancakes smell so good we all gasped when they brought it out. The potions are very large so honestly you could split every meal besides maybe the skillet dish. But every sandwich our table got was huge and all tbe food was really well made. For the price it was also very worth it. The place is surrounded by a nice walkable area and the resturant itself is very cute, I was expecting a random restaurant along the road but it has a very aesthetic design here. You could easily come here for an elevated but not crazy fancy brunch and enjoy the day.

Really tasty breakfast spot in Carmel that definitely gets busy, so expect a wait during peak…read moretimes. The food was worth it though, and everything tasted fresh and homemade like the name suggests. Loved the little store attached to the restaurant too. It was fun to browse after eating. The surrounding shopping area is also really nice to walk around and explore. A highlight for my daughter was the Mickey Mouse pancake! Overall a solid stop if you're visiting Carmel and looking for a good breakfast or brunch spot.
