Typical tavern decor and welcoming vibe
    Pallavi P.

A welcoming vibe and good service. It's away from the buzz of the main Street, which makes parking less challenging. The menu has typical pub fare and is a bit limited, but works. We got the buffalo chicken sandwich with fries and the filter mignon sliders. Food was flavorful, if somewhat typical. The fries were noteworthy. Our server was friendly and well informed, and made our experience more enjoyable. They have a large collection of beers, so you may want to stop by to check those out!

Grilled cheese and tomato soup combo!

I love the vibe at Brophy's. I stopped by last night for a beer and appetizer. This was my second time here , and I really enjoyed the food again. My wife and I shared the grilled cheese and tomato soup. I can't tell you how good this classic combo is at Brophy's. The blend of cheeses hold up on the sturdy bread ,and the tomato soup is the best that I have ever tried. The soup was not too acidic , and the flavor was spot on. I can't recommend this combo enough. Give it a try- you won't be disappointed!

Absolutely love this place. It was recommended by our hotel, La Playa. We paid a visit just about every day of our trip, whether just to have a beer and a snack or have lunch and watch a World Cup game. All of the food is good! Staff were absolutely amazing each time and were so welcoming and friendly. The vibe of the place and the real jukebox are hard to beat. Will definitely be back on our next trip!

    French Dip

Food I love French dips, so I like to try them at places I've never been. The cut of the meat and the freshness of the bread really made the sandwich. The fries were seasoned well and had good texture, too! The sandwich came served with a side of horseradish. My husband was pleased with his burger, but mostly commented on the fries. They were definitely noteworthy. Service Our server was nice, but she felt swamped. Sometimes it took a while for her to get back to us. Ambiance It's a tavern - loud, dark, local photos and beer can decor, and mostly high top seating. A perk about this restaurant is that it's outside of the downtown area, so it's a bit less competitive for parking.

Tavern burger split to share and an order of the short rib fries. Both were delicious!

Spent a day in Carmel with some girlfriends and we werelooking for a low-key lunch spot. This popped up on Yelp and thought we would give it a try. When we got there it wasn't very busy and so we were seated immediately. Place has a lot of charm and old school pub vibes. A friend and I shared the Tavern burger and an order of the short rib fries. The burger patty was hearty at probably half a pound and had delicious oven roasted tomatoes and blue cheese. The short rib fries were fantastic. Plenty of tender and flavorful meat on them also. Prices were very reasonable for what you get and the service was fast and friendly too. I'd definitely return if I was in the area!

    Sliders, pretzel, and calamari

Walked to Brophy's for a quick dinner and it turned out to be one of the best meals we had in Carmel. Excellent service, cozy bar atmosphere, and outstanding food. We ordered the sliders, pretzel, calamari, and fish and chips. Everything was really good - calamari was tender, pretzel was salty and had the perfect dips, and the sliders were juicy. The star was for sure the fish and chips. They don't look like much (just your average fish and chips) but the fish was so flaky and hot and tasted super fresh. Almost melted in your mouth. The chips were crazy... I don't like steak cut fries but these were also super fresh and crunchy and soft inside. Sooooo delicious you can't go to Carmel without trying Brophy's!

We came in around 3, after sightseeing. We were greeted by a friendly waitress and promptly seated. We weren't super hungry, so we ordered some drinks. I got a 32 ounce IPA and my wife got The Rapinoe. The 32 ounce IPA comes in a massive chalice, and it was fun to drink out of. The Rapinoe came in a stylish glass. We both enjoyed our drinks, and decided to order some finger food. We were torn between fries and the giant pretzel, and ended up choosing the pretzel. It came with two generous portions of cream cheese and mustard. The pretzel was perfectly hot, soft, and well-salted. Honestly, it was one of the best pretzels we've had. It fit the vibe of the restaurant. Aesthetics wise, it was like a low key pub that has good beer and good food. It was a great time and we would come again for either food or drinks.

Ordered: - Brophy burger (5/5): A classic burger with pickles on the top. The patty was cooked to a medium and was delicious alongside the crispy fries. No complaints. - Grilled cheese with tomato bisque (5/5): We loved the tomato bisque as it was creamy but not too heavy and the perfect level of acidity. Grilled cheese could've done with a little more cheese but it wasn't too greasy. The combination here worked really well and had a great portion size. Overall (5/5): This place is great for classic, well made dishes and large portions for a good price. We went on a Saturday afternoon during football season and loved the genuine pub energy with the bustling noise, delicious food, and liveliness. Seats were a little cramped and service was a bit slow because there were only two servers but they were very friendly and we loved the experience overall. Given this was an Irish pub in Carmel, my gf and I were the only POC but not once did we feel uncomfortable. In fact we loved that it felt like we had a private space and weren't rushed off our table even though there was a wait for the place.

    Filet mignon sliders Truffle fries

Something about this place gave me an ick. My friend and I dined in on one of the warmer Carmel days and the interior of this place was hotter than outside. It was hot and stuffy and we were sat at a larger table shared with a family that clearly did not want to share. My friend and I shared the truffle fries and the filet mignon sliders. The truffle fries were hardly truffle, I could barely taste/smell it. The sliders were something else.. The meat had that flavor of meat that is almost as if it is boiled in its own juices. It was not seasoned at all and had one bland chewy taste and consistency. It grossed me out so bad. It was pretty busy so our server left us unchecked for a while. While sitting there I noticed there were many drunk people just walking around the place and going into the pool room. Mind you it was around 2pm.

    Fish and chips
    Dani D.

Went on my first solo trip to Carmel and stopped by this place because I wanted some fish and chips. Some of the previous reviews were a little mixed but I wanted to try it out for myself. The service was so friendly and kind, as soon as I walked in the waitress told me I could sit wherever I liked and she immediately got my drink order. I had a modification request and she made sure to do that for me. The drink was a very strong 10/10. I made another special request for my food. I asked that it be prepared EXTRA crispy and that was also taken into account. The fries were crisp and salty and cooked perfectly, the fish definitely had a fishy smell but flavor wise tasted relatively fresh. It was crisped to perfection. The sauce and slaw were delicious. I really enjoyed this place and overall would return.

We rented a cottage one block from this super cute neighborhood tavern. Showed up on a busy Saturday night but managed to get a great table in 2 minutes. Devin was a fantastic server! And dinner was beyond great! We ordered wings, sliders and tomato bisque soup. It was all so good! Wish we had something like this near our home. We'd be there weekly!

Grilled cheese sandwich with Tomato Bisque
    Randall N.

I didn't think it was possible for a grilled cheese sandwich to exceed my expectations, but here we are. I'd spent the morning hiking around Pfeiffer Beach and arrived in Carmel in the early afternoon. I was looking for basic sustenance. On the menu it didn't appear fancy-- a basic grilled cheese sandwich with tomato bisque. The combination was delivered to my table hot and fresh. I waited for a few minutes so as to avoid burning my tongue. I observed the bread was crispy, and the cheese combination was nicely melted. The bisque had a nice aroma. The first bite of sandwich was perfection, and following it up with a spoonful of bisque was pure rapture. I was impressed by a humble grilled cheese sandwich because it was made to perfection.

Filet mignon sliders & classic bacon cheeseburger

My husband and I stopped into Brophy's for dinner during our honeymoon stay in Carmel and it did not disappoint! We had called an hour earlier asking about reservations but they noted that they only accommodate on a first come first serve basis. We walked over and they were quite busy due to the World Cup game, however, the servers were quick to greet you and communicate honestly about wait times. Our waitress, Asia, in particular was very sweet, transparent, and provided wonderful customer service. She was quick to check in with us and make sure our experience was great. We ordered the classic bacon cheeseburger, filet mignon sliders, and fries. It's classic comfort food that you can't go wrong with especially paired with a cozy tavern environment. Needless to say, we will be coming back when we visit the town again. Thank you Asia!

Ask the Community - Brophy's Tavern

What oils do you use for sauces and dressings?

    Canola or olive oil.

    Hi is this halal?

    Nope, it's Irish. :-)

How late do you serve food?

Hi, we serve food until 9pm.

Are you willing to cook your burgers extra rare or rare? And are they half-pound burgers?

Hi JC, our beef patties are 7 to 8 oz each, and we're happy to accommodate rare requests. Thanks!

Do you have lunch specials everyday ? What time are the lunch specials ? Are they posted somewhere ? Thanks .

Hi, yes, we offer a lunch special Monday through Thursday from 11am to 3pm. Customer's need to ask for the 'local's lunch special of the day' to take advantage of the offer. The current specials are: Monday - Classic Burger, Tuesday - Grilled…

I recently got a Cobb salad 1/2 price on a Wednesday. Was that a one time promo or ongoing every Weds?

Hi Rob, we offer a lunch special Monday through Thursday, featuring the Cobb Salad on Wednesdays. Customer's need to ask for the 'local's lunch special of the day' to take advantage of the offer.

Is Brophy's good for groups? Is there a bar area or do people need to be seated?

Brophy's is great for groups! For larger parties, we ask you contact us at 831-586-5566 so we can make a reservation. We offer a bar area, seating around the bar in tables and booths, and a dedicated game room area.

Do you guys have NFL Redzone on to watch games Sunday?

Yes! We have the NFL Sunday ticket with Direct TV so we have access to all the games.

    Is this place kid friendly?

Yes - we brought our 7 year old. There was a bother kiddo a little younger there as well. There's also a separate (but easily monitored) room with fuzeball and shuffle board.

Do I need to make a reservation for Lunch, 2 ppl, 12pm on a Friday in March? Coming from out of town. Thx

No reservation required! We look forward to welcoming you.

We do not have live music lined up for the weekends at this time, but we do have a Rock-Ola Bubbler Jukebox available to play your favorite songs. We would love to have you stop by!

    Is this restaurant kid friendly?

I'd say yes. Although I didn't notice kids menu, I saw a bunch of kids having fun with their family at the smaller room.

Do you still offer outside seating?

No, we do not have outdoor seating. The City of Carmel's outdoor parklets program was a temporary solution to accommodate socially distanced dining during the pandemic. The initiative has expired, and we are no longer able to offer outdoor seating…

Are you able to pickup takeout with a dog or is the outdoor seating still available?

Yes and yes. Ate here with my 2 Labradors.

Does outdoor seating have a TV to watch NFL games or do you have to go inside for that?

    No TV outside.

Are only service dogs allowed on outside patio seating area?

No all dogs are... granted their behaved.

Do they allow dogs in the outdoor seating?

Yes they do. One of the upsides of Covid with Restaurants setting up more outdoor seating.

Are they related to the Brophy Brothers in Santa Barbara?

We are not affiliated, but would still love to have you stop by!

Do they open early for premier league soccer matches?

To comply with current mandates, we are offering outdoor or takeaway dining only. We look forward to welcoming our guests back indoors for game viewings when the time is right!

Walked in, and it was busy. Not packed but busy due to shortage of staff. The waiter got to us and said there's seating outside and if we'd rather seat inside she was the only waiter so it'll be a few more minutes before she can clean the tables. We waited patiently and got a seat. Ordered drinks and waited. Waited and waited. While waiting I could see the 1 bartender just chatting away with the people sitting at the bar. Making drinks here and there but majority of the time just talking. 20-25 min passed by and our Waiter stopped by and realized we still haven't received our 2 drinks. She immediately got our attention and went to the Lady Bar Tender who looked annoyed that she was getting interrupted talking to the customers and was asked to do her job and check on our drinks. At this time we decided to walk up and sit at the bar as there were open seats. As we sat down the Bartender gave us a drink & food menu and said kitchen closes soon. We told her that we're just ordering drinks and that the waiter had already placed our drink order a while back. She went to her kiosk system and realized there were 2 drinks placed. She immediately looked at her phone and I'm sure referenced the time and actually proceeded to make one of our drink. She rimmed it and placed ice into the cup - while doing this she placed the drink back down as the customer next to us asked for another drink. She went back to the kiosk and grabbed her phone and looked like she purposefully just didn't care to make our drinks. She was on her phone with her back turned to us... for quite some time. There was enough time in between her back turning and the other customers drink order that we decide we're not going to be waisting any more of our time & leave. While doing this she actually proceeded to skip making our drink and got the drink/beer for the customer next to us. I walked on over to the waitress and said she can cancel our drink and we're leaving; she immediately apologized and said for us to stay and she'll ask to comp our 1st drink. I was very hesitant but she obviously was very apologetic and we went back and sat. She went to the bartender and told her make our drink and comp it. The bartender all of a sudden went back to making our drink and started talking to us saying she's the only bartender and the other 2 called out... never did she apologize. At this time I just told her she wasn't busy making drinks rather just talking and also skipping our drink to serve someone else. She asked if we still wanted our drinks and at this time, clearly why would anyone stay and support this kind of behavior. I told her, her customer service attitude sucks and we walked out. Waisted 45 min of our time... To the establishment: pls have your bartender working Night of 9/10 check herself & her attitude. She's the engine that runs your bar business and if she's clearly this rude, unprofessional and unapologetic about making drinks she shouldn't be working as a bartender. She left a very bad impression on your business while another worker tried to make things right just for her to give your customers attitude and purposely just choosing to not make our drinks.

A quick pivot to change our lunch plans while on holiday in Carmel, CA: ended up being really great…read morefor our party of three. Founded in Monterey in 2014, Alvarado Street Brewery expanded its production and its restaurants to meet demand. This location in the Carmel Plaza Shopping Center opened in 2018, and they do produce beer here, though their main production and canning happens at their original Monterey and expanded Salinas plants. They also have a new beer garden at the new soccer stadium in Marina. We waited around at the mall until it opened at 11:30. Service was excellent all-around, with us being seated right away, and our server, Ian, providing some top-notch recommendations for both food and beer. I asked him about their flights, which were the standard 5 oz pours, and individually priced. But he mentioned that if I ordered their promotional deal (in this case, their Korean-style loco moco), it would come with a flight of their 4 core beers. He had me sold as soon as he said 'loco moco'. Everything came out on-time, and served at the right temperature as appropriate. 4 beer flight (included with loco moco plate) - flagship Monterey Beer (American Light Lager, brewed at their Salinas plant); Pilsner (German-style Pilsner, also brewed at their Salinas plant); Mai Tai (American IPA, Salinas); Howzit Punch (fruited sour, modeled after Hawaiian POG). All of the beers were really good. with the Howzit being the most liked, not only on principle (we really love Hawaii) but also on taste. Korean-Style Loco Moco ($25) - when told that the white rice on a traditional loco moco was being replaced by kimchi fried rice, my original reaction was 'Dang...why didn't I think of that'. It was a beautiful looking dish, for sure. In terms of taste, just OK. The rice wasn't great, and the hamburger patty was OK (a bit dry). But the over-easy egg added a nice level of richness and the gravy fit the dish. The strips of gim (seaweed sheets) was a great touch and appreciated. Roasted Drunken Half Chicken ($33) - another great looking dish: a cut up half chicken with a ton of crisping done on the skin. It came with two dipping sauces (a bbq and a butter based), along with pickled vegetables on the side, and a jalapeno biscuit. My wife loved the biscuit and didn't need the extra butter. The chicken looked dry though, and she confirmed it. The dark meat was OK, but the white meat was very dry, confirming that one needs to use the bbq sauce and the pickled vegetables to counteract that. Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich ($20) - my mother-in-law loved this, and she proved it by eating it all (though it could have something to do with all the walking we did in the morning). I enjoyed the fresh cole slaw (tart with a nice mix of vegetables). And all of us really enjoyed the fries...again proving that food service frozen fries can be marvelous if deep fried (and served) properly. My wife and I both agreed that the Mai Tai PA and Howzit Punch were really good and worth bringing back home so got a 4-pack of each ($16 each). Haven't had a chance to try it at home yet, but will do so when wanting to remember our trip.

They had power out for a few days but were still so Chipper They serve beer wine and cocktails Everyone was so warm and friendly Parker had such a romantic vibe going on with all The candles on his bar So sad to hear he will be relocated across the street but so glad we got to experience this bar here while it's still in this location My mom and I loved the bathroom due to how good it smelled funny note but we love meyers soap and Parker had it ! Parker is such a character and such a vibe He has a few cats and a dog which were unfortunately not at the bar but def shows his true character as a pet dad. Can't wait to be back and visit the new location. What a Christmas 2025 this was. This is also a pet friendly bar! (: Thanks for such a great vibe our first Xmas Parker You're such a great host!

Best place to spend your time in Carmel (between golfing & gallery hopping)…read more If you want to feel local-ish, go here. I drove hundreds of miles for this place. (You should too.) Parker (the owner) is the real deal--passionate, witty, sometimes sarcastic, and genuinely fun. The cozy bar is surrounded by ever-changing photos, art, and laugh-out-loud signage. Stories live here: wall to wall, corner to corner, and everywhere in between. Locals and travelers exchange stories, play dice or cards. The drinks are beautifully basic--three ingredients, one of them ice. No fancy nonsense--just premium pours, neat or on the rocks. *And now the gut punch: they're being forced to close the same month they're celebrating their 100-year anniversary. The new building owners don't seem to care about the character and legacy of Carmel, the devotion of a fourth-generation owner, or what it means to lose a place that's thrived for a century. It's heartbreaking--for locals and travelers alike. Go while you still can. Last call, and cheers to everyone who's loved this place--"where everybody knows your name." XX

Last time I was thinking of a 3.5 star rating if Yelp allowed it, but in trying Edwin's again, it's…read morenow a solid 4 if not a 4.5. We were looking for some lighter eats and Edwin's provides some great options there. Service was improved and very welcoming (I think last time they hadn't been open long). Once again we had the Lumpia-style Crispy Rolls and the Crispy Chicken Strips, and again they were delicious. My wife also had the Apple Salad which was also very good. I chose the Singapore Chili Prawns, which was not overly spicy, and very flavorful with perfectly cooked shrimp. They have a nice selection of wines by the glass. We were only going to have a quick meal and then head back to the hotel to relax, but it turned out to Open Mike night (basically Karaoke). The two hosts were engaging and good singers, so we stuck around as they were taking requests and had an appreciation for 80's music. Eventually other patrons and singers arrived, and we ended up sticking around for 2 hours. It was a lot of fun, and the manager brought us a couple of Coconut Macaroons on the house, that were yummy. One piece of constructive criticism for the owners is that they need to upgrade the space to give it more of a tropical resort vibe, which would make it a really unique option in Carmel along with the menu. The space as is, is a good foundation. Just a few new light fixtures and some larger plants would create a really cool space. As an example, they should look at pictures of Khaluna in Minneapolis.

I hope I came here on an off-day…read more First time exploring Carmel and the big Filipino flag drew me to this place. Menu looked promising and from what I smelt, it was gonna be a good experience. Not sure if they're understaffed but I waited for almost 10 minutes to be seated. For context, I was the only one in line, plenty of tables available but none of them were bussed. Finally sat down and service was just bad. I think he was a new guy but no water was given and he wasn't attentive to anyone. Dexter had to step in to take my order. During my time there, I had noticed that they bus the tables LONG after the former customers leave, which led to more people getting delayed in sitting, which was super confusing to watch. The food was genuinely good but the overall experience just overshadows it and I don't know if I'll be back.
