Part 7 brings us to a place in South Wilkes-Barre called Ferris Lunch. This establishment has been serving hot dogs since 1929. I got 2 kraut and mustard dogs, along with 2 chili mustard and onion dogs, and I tried their minute steak sandwich. The kraut has a nice taste to it, I liked it how it blended well with the mustard. The chili they serve is homemade and it's a more dryer chili. They give you a good amount of toppings no matter which way you choose. Visited both Ferris' and the local competition a few weeks ago. I rated both 3 stars on here. I get the nostalgia and it's very old school and people have been eating them their whole lives, but this dog didn't even fill the bun and the chili had no moisture at all. Still worth the purchase for the price you're paying and I would still say they Didn't Suck ... but if you've traveled nearly anywhere you can find better quality dogs and toppings. I since moved to Minnesota and everytime I come to visit my family I make one small request order me some ferris hot dogs with everything on it my trip wouldn't be complete without them by far the best I've had and sadly I can't find a place back home in Minnesota to complement my cravings for them.... People claim that the Wyoming Valley is known for its pizza, in the way that Philadelphia is known for Cheesesteaks, or Allentown is known for being the name of a Billy Joel song, or how Wayne County is known for the sheer amount of scum that populate it. But I say the Valley's heart and soul - its true food is Hot Dogs. Hot Dogs are like the people who reside in this ever recessing place. We are a Hot Dog kind of people. We're good, salt of the Earth types who no one wants see be made. If we were food, we'd be Hot Dogs. Pure uninhibited comfort food. And if we as a Hot Dog People have a Moses, it is Ferris'. When arriving at Ferris, you may not be in awe. It is an unassuming place, for more unassuming times, but you will feel a passion begin to burn deep inside your stomach, as it becomes a true warrior prepared to face whatever may come it's way to the death. (Like Kublai Khan versus his brother in the Netflix original show Marco Polo, which to be honest wasn't all that good despite the lush scenery and ace acting job by Benedict Khan as the Khan) With that passion you will order a dog, maybe four or five - and if you're willing, you will order a Cheese Burger - there is a man there who will arise from his place in one of the back booths, and make his way to the shimmering flat top of yesteryear, he will prepare your burger with the kind of dedication you'd never expect from a hole-in-the-wall hot dog stand. I remember as a child, sitting in the backseat of whatever old car my parents were driving, heading inside from a cold winter's day, sitting in the booths of Ferris', getting a coke and a couple of dogs and sharing a meal that felt like a meal. The ghost of a more decent past haunting each bite. Forever stuck in time, in a more regal era of kindness. People talk about what the Valley once was, before Agnes before The Flood, and they speak as though they're all lyrics from a Bruce Springsteen song - we know what was, and we know what will be - but our constant, will always be Hot Dogs. Ok, so if you ever had a memory and craving for a meal you wish you could eat on a regular basis but couldn't because of distance, look no further. Ferris' is the poster child for not only an amazing lunch or dinner but the experience of a neighborhood best-kept secret. It's an icon of neighborhood culinary goodness. Has been a staple in the area forever. I definitely pick this place over Abe's any day.

A great place for inexpensive hot dogs. They have a great chili sauce and the people that work there have been there for decades running a great business and building up a reputation with its regulars over the years. They are not as crowded as the business next door. The flavor is outstanding. If you are having an order of more than 3 dogs, beware of the onions if your planning to go directly back to the office on the same day. You can order them without or in any way you like. Though I don't have a favorite spot, family members love to come here and won't go to the other places in town. They are cash only and I recommend calling ahead when it is close to the holidays since they tend to close for the week around and about those times. They are family run. read more

No other place I go for hotdogs in the area, and you can't beat getting a good lunch for under $5.

The best BLT in the area. Hot dogs and hamburgers are yummy too. This is a great place for breakfast too.

I have no complaints with this place. The Hot Dog is 'good'. Once again it's a different type of hot dog with their own special recipe but it's more of a plain sauce than Abe's. If you have a more tame taste or plainer palate i'd go for this. But Abe's next door also has different hot dogs to choose from, which are also good and different. The place is really small. I guess each place has their own fans, you should try both and see which you like more. I consider 2 of their hot dogs to be their staples, Ferris's would have this one with a sweeter more netural sauce and abe's would be tangier. Both good, in different ways. I just think Abe's may have more variety in some areas. read more
