Checked out Abe's a couple weeks ago for the channel to test the 2 local dog spots against each other. While Abe's did slightly edge the competition, and I know that with the nostalgic effect of the people growing up here they will say these are fantastic, they're honestly pretty middle of the road if you've done some traveling and tried dogs all over. Certainly not bad, but nearly any dog I've had in North Jersey, NY, Chicago, Vegas, etc. I found to be better. This is obviously preference based but that's where I stand. We always try to come here when we are in town. So we have been here many times, and typically order hotdogs with everything. Today was no exception. My husband and I got two hotdogs with everything each plus an order of onion rings to split. Additionally, they also have Fountain RC which I also usually order. My husband stuck with his traditional order of Coke. as always the hotdogs were wonderful, the service was fast and friendly. They do close at 5 PM no matter what the yelp page says. read more

I am skeptical about a lot of regional food establishments much beloved by townies from coast-to-coast. Like pizza, variations on chili dogs can be found nationwide with boisterous civic boosters extolling the unique characteristics of their oh-so-special local favorites. The hot dogs at Abe's are a variation on the "Texas Wiener" (a.k.a the "Coney Island") which has its origins in Greek immigrants in Paterson NJ and very little to do with Texas or New York. The meat-tubes served at Abe's are fairly ordinary dogs served with a "homemade" meat sauce on a regular white-bread bun. They are incredibly cheap and enjoyable. There are several different "Abe's" in a five mile radius of Wilkes-Barre (and some carbon-copy competitors) but my fave is this storefront on South Main St. The vibe here is vintage American lunch counter in a manner that is long gone in most places and endlessly replicated in chain restaurant simulacrums in every corner of the globe. Formica counters, spinning stools and bright fluorescent lights that were old when Eisenhower was still in the army. A good value and worth a visit. A carton of chocolate milk seems to be the favored pairing with a couple of Abe's dogs for reasons lost to the ages. Cash only, buddy. (Don't say we didn't warn ya!) read more

Well we come every year on our trip to see family I think it's been here since 1928 (pretty sure I've got that right). Simple and absolutely fantastic hot dog. No matter where I've been, Abe's Hot dogs are the best. Take out is probably better than eating in. I'm sure they're not known for great table service. Although it exists but don't expect much. Have been dropping off cars for Auto Team for 15 years with parking not to convenient slow park here for @10 minutes and sometimes it's early morning before work with picking up later evening and sometimes go in Abes for dinner because we loved the food. Today you have just lost my business when dropping car off in the morning before work for inspection at Auto Team & was accused of doing a drug deal and taking licenses plate and to never come back again!! Trust me will never be back again & lost my business of eating there ever again!! Especially in the Covid19 pandemic economic crisis small businesses can not afford to lose business. Abe's may be know for hot dogs but breakfast is also great! i was asked it i wanted onions and peppers with my hash browns and i was very glad i said yes. The eggs and bacon came just as I ordered them. I loved that the OJ was in a bottle from Nantucket Nectars and was large enough to share. My waitress was the best. And the "locals" were congenial. Let's start off with this is not fine dining. It's a fine diner style establishment. This is great tasting food at a reasonable price with fairly fast service. Try the spicy relish on a dog. My parents come here for breakfast every week. I know why. I ate the best omelet of my life there. The most perfectly cooked eggs .. I ordered a three cheese omelet replacing the Swiss cheese with more Cooper sharp. I loved it. Our waitress Tina was fantastic and kept the coffee full and hot. read more

This is the "fancy" Abe's hot dog restaurant. In my opinion the S Main St. Abe's is the classic dive hot dog joint; this is like Abe's 2.0. It has real seating, serves french fries, has music, doesn't smell like 10 year old grease, etc... What I'm trying to get at is that this is the cleaner, maybe more family friendly version of Abe's. The dogs taste very similiar to the other(s) locations and are still very affordable. So maybe this would be the Abe's that you go to if you are not so hot on the busier, tighter, hotter, Abe's on S. Main. To be fair, when I am in the area, I go here as much as the S Main location, for me it is location convenience. read more

I love this place! The breakfast is always cooked perfectly and so good! I recommend the western omelet. lunch and dinner are great too. nice size menu for such a small place. Also give you the old time diner feeling. I always have the New York burger it's phenomenal! The staff here is great and always welcomes you with a smile. Half the waitresses can tell me what I want better than I can tell them. I will continue to come here til I leave the area and when that happens it will be my first place I stop at when I visit. read more

I had my first "everything" hot dog from Abe's today! I have to say, it was wonderful. I grew up in NJ and we had a place called the "Weiner King" in our town. I have been searching for a hot dog to match theirs for a long time. Abe's everything dog was so close to a Weiner King dog, it took me back to my youth. The finely ground meat in the chili sauce and the steamed bun was what I was searching for. Even though I remember the Weiner King's buns being slightly more fresh, it was a very good recreation of those wonderful hot dogs of long ago. I also remember ordering cheese dogs at the Weiner King, and I noted that Abe's has those on their menu, also. I will definitely be going back to Abe's for more! read more

Tasty little things. I need ketchup on them though. Wife thinks they're fine as is. Either way, we can't take a trip to the valley without stocking up! I give it 5 cause it's been around so long and their hot dogs are 'different'. They got their own taste nobody else has. They're good too. Every Abe's location i've been to is good.
