The park has many trails for hikers, runners, walkers and cyclists, plus horseback riding. There are horse stables on the grounds near the vast Putnam Trail. There is plenty of history here, starting from 1691 when the land was purchased by the Dutch Van Cortlandt family in the colonial era. There is a wide open field by the famous statue of the Tortoise & the Hare named "Parade Grounds" where you will find a variety of activities: Soccer, Rugby, Croquet, Cricket, Soft Ball, etc. There are tennis courts, hand-ball & basketball courts, plus swimming pools during the summer months, and a lake with swans, geese and mallards. Many Bird watchers are often here early mornings. Plus by the lake, there is the first original public golf course in the United States, with a golf house that has hosted quite a few weddings, award parties and barbecues over the years. Walked up to enter and the security guard although respectfully noted issues that wouldn't let me enter. She told me about three issues my black tank top, my Durag, my phone. Then said all my items would need to be checked in and I cannot walk around with them. I explained my wife was inside has a lock and I'll put my stuff up when I'm in. But she said she couldn't even do that. And if she did she would be talked to about it...?? This was while other people walked in and out with black shirts and tops on. Some people with black hats and full black garments and dresses on. I asked if I leave my things with her is that ok, she then stated again I would have to take my Durag off and my shirt. She went on to explain how some parents may feel a way about me what I'm wearing and how they might complain and create an issue. (Horrible) That to me seems like profiling. Even after stating I just wanted to watch and not swim she repeated what she said. Then tried to explain how if I did bring my phone in how I would look and how others could perceive me ... I'm not new to this type of ordeal. It's just sad to see some people still judge and then enforce rules/ policies. Sad to see I can't walk and not be seen as an issue / threat / problem. Or even allowed in because MAYBE it'll create an issue. Once again I did not want to swim. I understand wanting to stop a problem before it happens but there is definitely a line I think being crossed here based off of presumptions.

Rockefeller, Jr. began acquiring private parcels in 1917 as part of his vision of developing a beautiful park with majestic views of the Hudson River and Palisades for the public. Rockefeller gifted the land to the City of New York in 1931, and construction began soon after. The park is about 70 acres in area. Decades after its creation, park goers can run or walk on the park's 8 miles of pathways, play on the lawns, and enjoy the city's largest garden with unrestricted public access, the Heather Garden. We saw tons of nice flower beds and blooming plants. Fort Tryon Park is home to the Cloisters (separate Yelp review), a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art that houses nearly 5,000 medieval works in a building comprised of several structures from Europe. Fort Tryon Park is home to Manhattan's largest dog run, complete with a gazebo for dog owners to sit and socialize, as well as two playgrounds, volleyball courts, and built-in ping pong tables. The pristine views of the Hudson River make the park the perfect setting for exploring, meandering strolls, and picnics. The George Washington bridge can be seen from one of the vintage points. If you are in the area, check it out...it's located on the northern part of Manhattan close to the border with the Bronx on the NW corner of the island.

Love this place…read more I've been coming this park now for about 7 yrs now. It has been without incident or hesitation. Prior to moving in the neighborhood I used to come to use the bike path and enjoy rides around the pond. Now that I live close by I come to run. I absolutely love the scenery. The park is always very clean. The pond appears to be quite murky but I was informed by a parks and receive worker that it is a actually necessary for the species it hosts. By the look of things the animals (ducks, swans, geeese, fish, frogs) are quite happy making it their home. The park has a bike bath and a running path. Since neither has been clearly labeled or designated it's up to park goers to use their discretion. The park has clean benches where you can sit and enjoy the pond scenery, two kiddie parks, a field which I've seen hosts the likes of concerts, soccer games, cricket matches, rallies and family reunions. The park does have brand new bathroom facilities but they seem to close them prior to 4pm which is inconvenient for the average person wanting to use it after work. The entire space is well lit and safety has never been a worry for me as it is also very populated during the hrs I've used it been 4 and 8. While this park is not ideal for cooking out etc, there are about 4 grills that are strategically placed near the picnic tables and is a neighborhood jewel. The perfect getaway at the end of the day or the best way to start your day.

MIXED BAG THIS REVIEW: Baisley Pond Park Extension Bathroom BRUTAL…read moreNYC Parks Department, this was absolutely unacceptable! On August 15, 2026, I attended the Kings of Kings Foundation's family event at Baisley Pond Park Extension. The event itself was wonderful, but the condition of the Parks Department bathroom was SHAMEFUL. The bathroom lights were completely out. You practically needed a flashlight just to see inside! The bathroom smelled strongly of urine and feces, it was not properly cleaned, and two stalls had no toilet paper. What bothered me most was seeing little girls and other children having to use these nasty bathrooms during a family event. Families should not have to choose between using an unsanitary restroom or trying to hold it for hours. Where was the Parks Department employee responsible for maintaining these facilities? I didn't see anyone maintaining or checking that bathroom. No one was in sight. If these bathrooms were opened that morning for public use, someone should have been responsible for making sure the lights worked, stalls were cleaned, toilet paper was stocked, and the facilities remained sanitary throughout the day. Last year's event was NOT like this, which makes this year's conditions even more disappointing. I'm not asking for a luxury restroom. I'm asking for the basics: working lights, toilet paper, cleanliness and regular maintenance. The NYC Parks Department needs to investigate what happened and hold the appropriate staff accountable. If an employee was assigned to maintain these bathrooms and failed to do so, management needs to address it. MIXED BAG THIS VERDICT: BRUTAL Community Event: AMAZING Bathroom Cleanliness: Maintenance: Working Lights: Parks Staff Presence: Our children, families and community deserve clean, safe and functional public facilities. Finally. Years ago I…read moregave up trying to visit this enclosed bird sanctuary. Their opening hours were ridiculously restrictive and their group-only reservations hard to get. I'm not sure when, but their schedule is now very approachable, and everybody can get in with little to no wait. Somebody before me wrote that once you are inside this beautiful green space, it doesn't even feel like being in New York City. I'll add that it doesn't feel like being in Central Park, either. When this section of Central Park was created, this promontory was left wild on purpose (read about this in the picture I uploaded with its history). I'm not much of a bird watcher, but supposedly, this can be a wonderful place to watch these creatures. However, you don't need to be a bird passionate to enjoy this green space: towering trees, rugged boulders, clear vistas and even a waterfall (seasonal) make this a true gem to walk around. Paths are kept clean and dry, so you don't have to worry about getting your shoes muddy. They do specify that no more than 20 people at a time are allowed inside. However, I happened to drop by on a Tuesday afternoon around 4p (with gorgeous weather) and didn't have to wait to get in (nobody was at the entrance gate to check, so I'm not sure how they can reinforce this rule). Hours are advertised as follows: 10 AM to 30 minutes prior to sunset 7 days per week. Year round Hours are weather permitting and subject to change due to maintenance No more than 20 visitors may enter at a time. Visitors must stay on the trails at all times. Dogs, bicycles, skateboards and rollerblades are not permitted. Carry out what you carry in. There are no trash cans in the Sanctuary.

Birds can fly anywhere so what they did here was limit the park pathway, put a gate and less and open spaces to hopefully make the birds think they escaped the hustle and bustle of the city. Let me tell you some birds are real smart and can't be fooled so easily but they do appreciate the extra green. And if you suddenly got Bird watching fever after seeing a Nat-Geo TV show well you can come here with binocular in hand and hope you get lucky and spot a bird you don't see everyday in NY.
