Fantastic place which somehow I'd missed during many of my stints in downtown Bellingham! If I'm the mood for a great pizza, these guys do a great job! My husband was in need of a meaty pizza while in Bellingham. La Fiamma fit the bill both with Yelp reviews and local recs. Note up front -- this is a very popular spot on the weekend. Get there past 6 pm u may be waiting 45 minutes. Worth it? Well we only had a 20 minute wait and beat the crowd. But yes - great ambience, family friendly, diverse menu, prompt, friendly service, and of course - excellent pizza! My daughter loved her Alfredo pasta, our shared salad with the house ranch was super fresh and tasty and the wood-fired meaty pizza a hit and not too heavy. They have a wide variety of specialty pizzas (in my opinion though seafood does NOT belong on pizza) and classics like the Brooklyn we got. Oh and the homemade lemonade is worth the free refills. I was having to fast the next day so I went for broke and also ordered the specialty dessert. Who doesn't like be a good molten chocolate cake topped with cherry chocolate ice cream, whipped cream and sprinkles? Warning: this was big enough for 4 people. The Grecian Formula pizza is DELICIOUS! That sauce is so good. The fresh tomatoes and crumbled feta cheese compliments that sliced tri tip. 5/5 stars... I'm not a fan of olives so I got mine without. Dont come here if they have any kind of sale or plan on a long wait even if you come in for pick up. Its good pizza but not worth an hour wait in my opinion. Today apparently is national pizza day so they ran a ten dollar special on XL pizzas. Which maxed out oven capacity. I called for pick up 5:07 pm. They said 45 mins. Round up 45 mins is 5:55pm. I get there early at 5:35 pm expecting to wait a few. By 5:55 pm no pizza. I ask if it is not already in the oven can you just cancel my order and give me my money back? Lots of local people which is logical given it is a small town. Tried potato w sweet onions, Hawaiian, prosciutto pizzas. Individual size is perfect for smaller appetites. Medium is best for larger ones. Potato w sweet onions had too much balsamic glaze, so ask them to go light on it. Other than that, decent pizzas on the way to / from Vancouver. The pizza here is consistently great. Light crust with no excess grease/flavoring. A huge selection of unique topping combos, fresh salads, and a decent Tomato Basil soup. I've always had great service and would come back here again and again... HOWEVER, nothing irks me more (albeit probably to an unreasonable degree) than places claiming to prepare something a certain way and then not. I spent several years in NYC and I've had an embarrassing amount of garlic knots in my lifetime...these are NOT it. New York style garlic knots are golden on top and soft/doughy in the middle, doused in butter and fresh garlic. La Fiamma's "NY Garlic Knots" are LOADED with cheese, soooo much cheese they are greasy, smell of burnt Parmesan and are gooey/undercooked. they are basically a knotted cheese-stick. So disappointed. Unfortunate experience. Pizza was quite good, but there was a customer experience issue that needs to be addressed. My wife and I took our son to La Fiamma after moving him into Western. We ordered pizza and salads and were eating our meal on their outdoor deck. Someone showed up with their dog and as the dog walked by our table, he stuck his nose in my wife's salad. I love dogs, and I don't fault the dog for his behavior (c'mon, food at eye level!) I don't even really fault the owners of the dog, it was a sweet animal and they do allow dogs on the deck. However, the server just IGNORED the situation. I wasn't going to get into it with the dog owner, but I can't believe the server looked right at us, and moved on. I'm getting rather tired of comment threads of servers complaining about how hard they work and how rude customers are. Of course I'm expected to give them a nice tip because of how hard they work, but because it's a little busy we're supposed to just shrug off a dog's nose in our overpriced food. COVID has discouraged me from going out to eat in general, experiences like this lead to making it more permanent. Do your damn job, and just get my wife a new salad. read more

First, I want to say I am open to changing this rating in the future if their service improves. I recently got a new job, and wanted to celebrate with a Fiamma pizza because they are usually fantastic. I called, was put on hold. I waited a couple of minutes, and when the person answered the phone I stated that I wanted to make an order for carry out. She then told me that they were too busy and wouldn't be able to take any carry out orders AT ALL. No wait time, just at all. My jaw hit the floor. I realize with the pandemic that some places have been having issues, but I've never heard of a restaurant straight up turning away business. I was going to order a forty dollar pizza. I've also made wood fired pizza myself, and they take around four minutes MAX to completely cook. Yeah, those ovens are that hot. It hurts my soul to write this because I LOVE their product, and they are locally owned. But this wasn't the first time I've had issues with their service. Please guys, try to be better. Haven't eaten here. Couldn't as we were turned away before closing. My family of three came in at 8:30 (yes, half an hour to closing), yet we saw the restaurant was nearly completely full with tables clearly at the beginning of their meal. They informed us this was due to the fact that "someone was coming in at 9 to fix some tables". Felt strange and uninviting. Too bad. Good pizza - but I'm giving this place 3 stars because of how expensive their pizzas are. We were coming in to town and called ahead to order 3 pizzas for pickup. With only 20 minutes notice they were able to put our order together quickly and we had three very delicious pizzas waiting for us when we arrived. As I said, the food was quite good but when the cashier rang up our order, my jaw dropped: 3 large pizzas (and two salads) came to $115!!!! I am obsessed with La Fiamma's Pye Hole!!! Pye Hole is a window at Fiamma that sells pizza by the slice on Saturday's and late nights Thursday - Saturday I believe. For just a few bucks, it's a great deal when I'm already downtown and need something to fill my stomach. Eating inside is a bit different. I love their desserts - the s'mores and ginger snap cookie ones are so delicious! But it is expensive. I rarely find myself considering going simply because I don't want to spend that much! The food is good, though. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual, with good food and friendly service people. It's great for a good dinner with family who's in town or to celebrate! Solidly consistent great pizza. We come here every couple of months and it is always good. The crust is chewy and just thick enough to support the sauce and cheese. The variety of pizza toppings is nice, we can hit our old favs like Sofia or Meatball, and mix it up with a second pie that is completely different. Everything is good here. La Fiamma is a nice restaurant. The food is pretty good, the space is cool, and it's nice to be able to watch them throwing pizzas in and out of the big brick oven. That being said, y'all are WAY overpriced. A "medium" pizza is smaller than the average medium you would get anywhere else, and yet prices shockingly start at $18 and go up from there. There is a salad they sell for $14 (add $3 more for chicken) on the menu, and you can literally walk down the street to bayou and get the exact same salad for $11. Overall, I'd say the food is good but the prices are whack. Save yourself $10+ and grab a papa Murphy's take & bake. read more

I come here for the options. Hands down. The food is tasty, the servers I would adopt if I could (A+, Fiamma), and the location cannot be beat. All this aside, having gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, flavorful, innovative, customizable, often entertaining options basically makes my heart sing. Do I have guilt pizza elsewhere that I probably like better some days? Absolutely. Would I take out of towners here if they wanted "Bellingham"? Absolutely. Do I go there and people watch locals drinking wine and having a quick lunch out on the deck? Abso-freaking-lutely. It's a solid great spot, with a decent happy hour to boot. Garlic knots; delicious. Pizza; could be better. Wandering around Bellingham I found myself looking for a place to grab a bite for dinner. Yelp directed me to La Fiamma, a highly reviewed pizza place. I came on a Friday night and it was already quite packed. The wait was about 35 minutes when I arrived but it started to increase to around 45-50 minutes as the night went on. There is a little hallway where you can wait, but it can easily get full with people. They'll call your name once there is a table ready. The place has a laid back, rustic kind of feel, but the decor could have been better. Some of the tables are placed relatively close to one another so you might not have the most private space for your meal. I started with the rosemary lemonade since it's an unique item that people seem to enjoy. The rosemary is very subtle though you can taste it a tad bit. If you're hoping for a strong flavor of rosemary, then this lemonade isn't for you. It is also on the tart/sour side so if you like sweet lemonade, I would steer clear. To start I tried the garlic knots. An order comes with three knots and with ranch and marinara dipping sauce. The ranch is some what odd because it tastes greek yogurt based. The marinara is quite spot on though. The garlic knots are delicious. They have golden brown on the outside and fluffy on the inside. It's every carb lovers dream. It has a lovely brushing of butter and garlic on the outside. Not too much garlic, but you will definitely get a good hit of it. You can choose two "flavors" for your pizza whether you get a medium or large size. I tried the sweet and savory, and the hick chick. The flavor profile for both could have been better although they were still decent and edible. The sweet and savory pizza leaned more on the savory side than sweet. The taste of the caramelized onions was not strong enough to battle against the salty proscuitto. I did enjoy the arugula, although there wasn't enough of the sauce on top of the greens. On the other hand, the hick chick had a very strong BBQ flavor to it. At times, it was a bit overpowering against the other toppings. If you like BBQ based pizza, you may enjoy this chicken BBQ pizza. On a positive note, I did really like the crust on the pizza. It wasn't too burnt, but it had the wood fire feel to it. The crust is crisp but also soft on the inside. I also enjoyed that the crust didn't get soggy even after time passed. It was pretty busy there so service was a bit absent. It took a while for someone to take our order and a while for someone to check up on us and give us our check. They were quick in boxing the leftover pizza though - which I did appreciate. I came here after my little brother graduated. They don't take reservations so we just had to get here in time, which we managed to do. Parking was fairly easy as there is a lot right next door. The food was great and was probably worth 4 stars, but I knocked it down due to the service. It is what you could expect out of a college area, serviced by students. There were 7 of us and we ordered 3 large pizzas of which we had some left over. We had the Classico, the Margherita and a baked potato pizza! The pizzas were fresh and well cooked, flavorful and actually really great. My favorite was the baked potato one even though it was ridiculously excessive with carb on carb madness. They had a thin layer of mashed potatoes on top of the pizza dough! Also sour cream and scallions and everything that would be in a great baked potato. The service was pretty disappointing, I opened up my knife and fork and the fork had dried stuck on food on it from the previous person which is really very disgusting. It was also slow and pretty inattentive, to get our waters filled and to put another order in for pizza I had to be almost rude and shout out to the waiters because no one would check on us and pretend not to listen. They also apparently do not communicate with each other because though our waitress was a woman, a guy tried to take away all of our plates and silverware while we were still waiting for our last pizza to come out. Went back last night and had AMAZING customer service. Not only was our waitress kind and hospitable, but when my friend tried her cocktail and didn't like it (and then I tried it and did not like it) we mentioned it and she was more than happy to offer her a replacement drink. We had each just had a sip so it was a reasonable offer, but the waitress was so gracious and responsive when we mentioned we did not like it. Very popular with Western students and the rest of Bellingham. Though there were six of us, and it was Saturday evening, we were still seated within a half hour. They have outdoor seating, but don't have heat lamps, which is surprising (at least I didn't see any by the tables at the front and to the side of the restaurant). My sister did the ordering, and without much consulting of anybody else, inexplicably ordered two pizzas that were pretty much the same: pesto/basil with artichoke hearts. The pesto pizza had shrimp. The other had olives and red bell pepper. I also ordered the tomato-basil soup, which was good. It's pureed tomato, basil, and I would bet some jalapeño too, because this soup was hot with a capital H. What was cute about the soup is that it was served with a balsamic vinegar-flavored sauce squirted on the top in the shape of a treble clef. The pizzas were decent. I liked the Asiago cheese and the wood-fired crust. However, I felt the pizzas were busy, cluttered with too many ingredients. There is an army of workers and they are really hustling - our orders were served in very good time. My brother-in-law kept offering me a sip of his rosemary lemonade (he knows the buttons to push). And I refused every time. Rosemary lemonade, never, not in a million years. I noticed servers frequently going around and pouring refills of their rosemary lemonade, but nobody was doing the same for water or ice tea. read more

When the day grows longer and the sun actually sticks around, there's nothing better than dropping the top and taking a meandering drive to see the sights. Slap some sunblock on, plug in the iPod and see where the road takes you! It was on one of these drives that we found ourselves hungry and in Bellingham. We circled through downtown before realising that the first place that caught our eye... the one that boasted wood fired pizza was the choice for dinner. In fact, it sounded absolutely perfect. There was a wait for a table but it moved quickly. After thirty minutes or so, we were seated and menus were brought quickly. Our server didn't bring us water which I thought strange until I read through the menu: "Tap Water - Freshly melted glacial ice is available upon request. Brought in directly to La Fiamma from Mt. Baker via Lake Whatcom. We just hate wasting water. $0.00" Heh. Fair enough. This sense of humour continued through the items. We ordered a pair of the house lemonade infused with fresh rosemary. The menu openly admitted to stealing the recipe from a restaurant in Seattle who in truth, stole the recipe from a farm in Issaquah! They have a small wine selection and for the beer lovers, nine beers from nine regional microbreweries on tap. Nice, eh? Our server returned to the table and I asked his opinion between two pies. I couldn't make up my mind between the BBQ Chicken with red onion and cilantro or the Pizza Diablo with spicy tomato sauce, hot link Italian sausage from Isernios and hot pickled cherry peppers. He shrugged and suggested that I get a split pie and try both. Liking the way he thought, I chose that option. Our other pizza was a simple Margherita Supremo with fresh tomatoes, fresh basil and mozzarella. We ordered some foccacia which wasn't too memorable. It was like fat crustless toast. I'd say skip it. The salads were bountiful with lettuce, silvers of carrot, red cabbage, toasted pine nuts and Parmesan. They do NOT split salads though. According to the menu: "Newton's 4th Law of Physics found that when cooks split 1 salad into 2 bowls it invariably becomes 1 1/2 salads, therefore we do not split our salads. If you wish to share your salad, we will gladly provide extra bowls." The pizzas arrived and they were perfect. The crust had a good chewiness to it with the right amount of char on the bottom. The pies weren't overly sauced which is a big plus for me. The slices were not greasy with cheese or buckling under too many ingredients. And each slice was tasty! The pizzas aren't cheap but the quality of the ingredients are good - a large pepperoni and cheese will run about twenty dollars to give you an idea. They offer a cool lunch special until four p.m. - for $8.75, order any personal size (8") pizza plus a small green salad. There's a nice deck outside with heat lamps and the views facing the street are perfect for people watching when the bars empty. Bathroom was clean as was the tables. The waitstaff are on the younger side so they might get overwhelmed when the place is packed. Upside was that everyone seemed to cover everyone's tables when it came to refills or clearing away. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I just had the best pizza lunch of my life here! Unable to decide amongst the numerous vegetarian pizza options (I generally don't like meat on pizza), the waiter suggested they make me a hybrid of La Fiora and La Bella, which ended up having a roasted vegetable tomato sauce topped with yellow squash, zucchini, red bell pepper, white and porcini mushrooms, olives, onions, mozzarella, feta, rosemary, and black sesame seeds. Everything about the pizza, from its perfectly crisp/soft/chewy crust, to the richly flavored sauce, to the abundance of crisp-tender vegetables, to the perfectly melted and greaseless cheese, was wonderful (as was the accompanying Full Sail Sessions Lager also recommended by the waiter). Curious to know more about how this meal came to be, I spoke to the manager and found out a few things their approach to making the perfect pizza crust. For one, it apparently requires a blend of five different flours (wheat, rye, gluten, malted barley, and something else I've forgotten). For another, a sourdough starter is used in addition to regular yeast. And then, of course, there's the firewood oven. Not the kind of thing I'll be trying to replicate at home, so I'll be back each time I visit Bellingham. read more
