Loved that they offer "scarpetta" to mop up all the great flavors of the pasta. That allowed me to get a teaser of the sourdough that must make it in to the pizza, too. Every time I come here, I say, "oh, this is the best thing I've had so far!" And I come here often. From the savory, melt in your mouth meatballs to the Linguine alle vongole, you can't go wrong. Even rye Squid Ink Pasta is extraordinary, but beware, it can be spicy. And then there's the acacia e Pepe which is so satisfying (pro-tip: add capers, pepper flakes and pancetta, and it's like a little flavor burst of goodness). You can even customize your dish (or at least they've allowed me to when I dine here) to how you want it. It's probably silly to update my review when I've already written about the incredible arancini (deep fried rice balls) with a marinara so lovely that I would happily drink it, and the wonderful Margherita pizza with its lovely crust (just the right amount of heft and chewiness--importantly, not too much!). My companion and I arrived during Happy Hour and these two selections are on that menu, so we had them again--and I guess the utility of this review is to say that these selections continue to be consistently delicious and that this is a wonderful place. We also shared an Afogato--vanilla gelato with decaf espresso poured over! Perfect, quite light after our meal and beautiful enough to paint as a watercolor. This is one of our easy go-to's when looking to dine out. We were happily helped by friendly bartenders, Nicole and Sie, who made great recommendations and great drinks for us. I especially loved the Mario Cicotti cocktail (an interesting variant of an Old Fashioned--including tobacco bitters and charred orange peel!--very interesting). And we enjoyed the beautiful, warm Montepulciano Nicole recommended. And they concocted a surprise drink for my dessert--I can't recall what it was--but it was lovely and came with a bunch of hearts! After a vacation in Italy I was lamenting the lack of good Italian food, then a friend recommended Storia Cucina. OMG, it was so good and tasted as if I were back in Italy! Plus, I've never found an American restaurant with arancini. I love arancini and they have it! The service was excellent. The server even let me pre-order my dessert because it frequently sells out! Very yummy pizza and pasta dishes. Love their arancini! You can tell they use high quality ingredients. The only criticism I have is that their take-out is very hit-or-miss. Items sometimes are incorrect or they come out one at a time when we come to pick up, so some items in our order are cold by the time we leave the restaurant. We sat outside under the covered seating area by the street, which gave us a nice view of the theater lights and the bustle of shoppers and cars going by. I had the cacio e pepe, which was rich and flavorful. We shared the roasted cauliflower with Calabrian chilis, garlic, capers, and parsley. This' place is quite a find. Just passing through Bellingham on our way home we decided on a whim to grab some Italian food and found this gem. We arrived around 5:15pm and luckily was able to snag the two top without any way and gad we did because the rush started piling up behind us after being seated. Onto the food. 1) Kale Caesar salad. This was decent. Note, it is not all kale, but is a mix of kale and romaine due to customer comments. The only thing I didn't like was the soggy croutons which even my 9 year old did not kid tax. 2) Meatballs. This was really good. Soft, pillowy, saucy. It was served with a nice piece of focaccia to soak up the gravy. This was definitely a hit. 3) Pomodoro. This was pretty good. Had a good clean flavor and liked the dab of ricotta. Just felt like it was missing something. Perhaps season the ricotta? 4) Cacio e Pepe - this is one of my all time favorites and this certainly delivered. A nice soft and chewy pasta with a good amount of cracked pepper and cheese. What is there not to like?! This is one of those places I definitely starred on my list of places to return when passing by. Went on a recommendation from my hubs coworker as we are always on the hunt for good pizza- we were not disappointed in the food one bite but must have come during shift change which seemed very clunky and left us waiting at at our table for a hot min- once we got a server it was decently smooth sailing from there and our waitress gave us amazing recommendations with our cocktails- it is a very open area so can get a little loud when busy but worth it because the pepperoni pizza was delicious, my little ate more of the bolognese then my hubs but that's because he ate all the focaccia with cheese- will comeback soon for sure and try happy hr next! read more

We came as a group of 2 + baby. The interior has high ceilings and a moody urban vibe. The server was efficient when taking our order and delivering the food. The pizza came out quickly. We really enjoyed the meat pizza, which had pepperoni and sausage toppings, as well as sun-dried tomatoes. We liked the texture and material of the crust too. However the margarita pizza was not that great. The crust was too difficult to chew, and some of the slices had barely any cheese - you could see the tomato paste & crust as there wasn't much cheese on those parts. - A Night of One Surprise After Another We started our evening at Storia Cucina with the calamari. As someone who truly loves calamari and orders it often, I was excited for it -- but it ended up being the only miss of the night. A little flat, a little lifeless. But that disappointment didn't last long. Because the moment the clams arrived, everything changed. The clams were explosive -- rich, bright, full of fresh ingredients that made every bite its own experience. No two bites tasted exactly the same, yet each one was consistently delicious. The dish had depth, freshness, and real character. Then came the bolognese, and somehow the night kept climbing. Fresh, handmade noodles, a beautifully balanced sauce, and flavors that tasted intentional, layered, and clean. It's rare to go to a restaurant where each dish tops the last, but that's exactly what happened. And then came the grand finale: the bread pudding. Now, the food overall was truly amazing -- I don't want to belittle any of it -- but this dessert ruined me in the best possible way. I will never be able to eat bread pudding the same again. Unless someone creates something better than this (and I honestly don't think that's possible), no other bread pudding will compare. we had really DISAPPOINTING service from our waiter. The only time he visited with interest was to take an order, he forgot to give us menus, and of course to give us the check. Other servers and the person seating people were kinder and more helpful than him. mushroom pizza was only cut in 1/2 had to find a server to bring it back and fix it. - not our waiter because he was no where to be found. I told him when we ordered we were celebrating my daughter's birthday and he said"ok." Had him as a waiter in May and he was mediocre at best- rushes to have you sign the check and give a tip both times. In May he was like"don't you trust me?" when I said I wanted to review the check, And this time I told him to leave and I would review it. Spoke to manager- only tipped because they are split at the end of the night. He saw me talking to the manager and went over to tell my daughter how busy they were from the theatre next door, and why we were had poor service. Really we had poor service from him. We celebrated our anniversary at Storia Cucina and had a great time! We arrived around 6pm with no reservation, the wait time was about 20-30 minutes. However, we were able to sit at the bar and order appetizers and drinks while we waited! For appetizers we tried the artichokes and the burrata. The burrata with focaccia was absolutely delicious and we devoured every bite. After about 20 minutes we were seated at a table, where we then ordered our mains. We ordered the Pappardelle Bolognese and Cacio e Pepe, respectively. The food was delicious and the servings were generous. I ended up taking about half of my pasta for leftovers. We went to Storia Cucina after seeing a show at the Mt Baker Theater and we were seated quickly (not the case when we tried before the show). The space is darling: intimate, cozy, and clean. We ordered the Pizza Salsiccia and drinks (Lou Sassone and The Godfather -- both variants of an old fashioned). The drinks were both very well crafted. I prefer the Sassone, it's a bit smoother, more subtle notes. The pizza was great. The perfect level of spice. The crust was amazing. They use a 1971 sourdough starter for their breads and their crusts. It was damn good. We ordered a second pizza to heat up for breakfast: Pizza Bianca. This was just as good! It made an excellent breakfast pizza with eggs on the side. Speaking of breakfast, Storia Cucina does offer breakfast. I am enticed by their breakfast menu and would love to go back.
