Lee's Tailor - dress with stain that was not there before I brought it to the tailor

I had an unusual request. My husband recently had his foot and part of his calf amputated. His pant…read moreleg needs a zipper so he can open the pant leg from the bottom up. This gives him access to his prosthetic and makes it easier to get the pants on/off. I took the pants to Lee's Tailors and there were 2 women at the desk. I told them I needed a zipper in the pant leg and showed them where (inner seam). One of the women thought that was hysterically funny - not sure why. She laughed and laughed, and then went in the back. A bit disrespectful, but whatever. The other woman was nice and respectful, showed me what she would do and how much it would cost. The pants were ready 2 days later, and they're perfect. They collect payment up front, and give a ticket for picking up. They did a great job.

They took it in the back, but when the woman came back, she said I needed a dry cleaner. Annoying, but whatever. On closer inspection, it's a bleach stain. It was DEFINITELY not there when we brought it in- we were all examining the dress closely to figure out the hemming length. And she had to have understood what it was when she inspected it, so telling me to take it to the cleaners was disingenuous. Of course the dress was not cheap and the event is tonight and there is no time to find an alternative. My daughter is totally distraught. I don't know what I could have done at pickup if I realized what it really was- I guess demanded some kind of compensation? But that doesn't get me the dress back! I told her it's not that noticeable in a dark room for dancing, but I'm so sad for my daughter. I have liked Lee's Tailors for a while, but won't likely trust them with my clothing again.

I brought a pair of new dress slacks into these fine gentlemen and within 15 mins I walked out with beautifully altered, well-pressed slacks at a very affordable price. Michael is an extremely skilled and knowledgeable tailor. The man can work magic!…read more I had a couple of friends who lived in the area in need of alterations and I'd researched and even called almost all of the other places in the Natick/Milford area, and no one else -- by their own admission -- had the expertise to do the kinds of alterations we needed. Mind you, I'm talking about essential stuff here, like tapering trousers. I talked to Michael on the phone and he said that he could taper pants, take in suits, and do all of the important stuff. This put him head and shoulders above any competitors... if he could fulfill his promises. Turns out he could, and then some! My mind was blown by how Michael managed to, not only make all of the adjustments we needed with expert precision, but also work a couple of miracles that shouldn't even be possible. For instance, he was able to take in the waist on denim 5-pockets. That is NOT something you can expect any old tailor to do. (Trousers and chinos have room for that but denim doesn't) and on top of that he was able to invisibly narrow the shoulder seems of a dress shirt, which is another thing that you can't really ask for. (In this case, he offered.) My friends looked amazing in their outfits and I was left feeling sad that I'd probably never work with Michael again because I live in Boston. He was contagiously upbeat and had an incredibly dry, but potent sense of humor.

After having heard high recommendations from a family friend I took my wedding dress into Michaels…read moreto be altered. I think Michael is probably a very good tailor, and my wedding dress was probably too intricate and difficult of a job for him to do. Instead of saying no to me, he charged me an arm and a leg for work I had to take to another location to be fixed. When I went to pick up my dress, it was not done, despite having been told it was finished and ready for pick up. I needed the dress to be shortened, the sleeves pulled up, a bustle added and applique added to the neckline. When I got there only the length and sleeves had been shortened. I wanted part of the neckline covered, ideally using applique or lace left over from shortening the dress. Instead Michael took a scrap of white, men's shirt material off the floor, folded it into a triangle, and hand-stitched it in, it looked awful and not at all what I had asked for when I facetimed my mom in a panic, he pulled a piece of lace from the floor and stitched that in. Not entirely satisfied but not seeing any alternative to the work he had done, I let him work on the bustle. He did a one-point French bustle, while I waited 45 minutes for him to complete it. He rushed and by the time he was done didn't let me try it on and test the bustle he had just put in. When I got home and put on the dress, in daylight the piece of lace he had put in the front was entirely the wrong color and looked terrible, and the bustle still had most of the dress laying on the ground. Not trusting Michael to fix these mistakes I ended up having to go to a different alterations place, where they added applique appropriately and added TWO more places to correctly bustle the dress. While I would like to give Michael the benefit of the doubt, I wish he had told me my dress was too much for him to alter and sent me on my way. I'm sure Michael is very talented at what he does, but this was not a good experience.
