I took a jacket to have a new zipper sewn in. The lady behind the counter said it worked fine, but it took me about 8 tries to get it zipped right. She said pick it up next Saturday. The following Saturday I went to pick up the jacket - IT WASN'T DONE. Then she asked me when I would be back to pick it up? REALLY? Where the heck has SERVICE gone? The cleaners opens at 7:00 and I was there ten minutes early. Despite the hours the door was open so I was able to drop off a suit and a pair of dress pants. They needed a new crease so a cleaning was long overdue. The woman at the front counter was receptive and had a smile on her face. There is plenty of parking in back of the store. I have a jacket that needs new buttons so I am sure I will return. read more

My daughter took her prom dress to Tony the Tailor to get hemmed last week. They said $250. My daughter isn't bold enough to advocate for herself, took the pink tag and left. She gave it to me and I thought "Well, that must be a mistake. I'll deal with it when I pick it up." I went in about a half hour ago and now the alteration is $295. I asked how could it be so much. They said we worked three hour[s] on it. I told them I thought that it's great they're getting $100/hr, but that's ridiculously expensive, and that I think they took advantage of a young, shy girl with anxiety. The dude started seriously hollering at me, "We work three hours! We no take advantage! We only sew! We no take advantage!" To which I replied "Well apparently you do because it says on your chart right there that shortening is $65." That really ticked him off. He continued yelling at me. I finally raised my voice and said something like "If you want any money from me at all you're going to stop shouting at me NOW." At this time Tony walked to the counter and said something to the clerk. The clerk set his shoulders back like a middle school mean girl, faced me and said "Yeah. We no take check from you." Dude grabbed the dress and ran to the back of the shop with it. Long story short I walked to the atm and got $300. The clerk who yelled at me continued to be incredibly smug and refused to give me my $5 charge. I said something like "C'mon dude. You're going to make this even more difficult?" He went back to consult Tony again and came back up front, opened the register, and shoved the $5 (and who really cares about the $5? It was a matter of principle by then.) I turned around to leave, helped an elderly gentleman with the door, looked back at the dude and said "Y'all are a bunch of crooks." So much for supporting THAT small business, especially after 22 years of loyalty. read more

This used to be a gem. Great service, perfect tailoring, fair prices. Now: this business has devolved into a discourteous, disrespectful mess where quality doesn't matter and the prices are sky-high (maybe to make up for people dressing more casually and not needing dry-cleaning and tailoring as much as before? Will give them the benefit of the doubt.). I had a bizarre experience there last week: Tony and his son were screaming at each other in Vietnamese. When Tony stormed off, the son (typically rude and patronizing) explained they were arguing about the price to charge a customer. It is so sad that a good place has become so abysmal. read more

My family had used a Tony for a number of years for cleaning and alterations . On the occasion of my last patronage I bright in three pair of pants for shortening no cuffs . I took two weeks to get the pants back and overcharged me by an amount in excess of $100. He completely tore apart and restructured one pair I of the pants not withstanding my telling his tailor to simply shorten them. In my opinion this is the worst rip off joint since the the creation of fabric . I believe nudity is preferable to clothing altered at Tony's. read more

Forget about the man behind the counter, he is some mothers son and she loves him. As far as Tony's, it really is a good as they get. All but one of the staff is very pleasant and the quality of the work speaks for itself. I have been a customer for years and have never been dissatisfied. A shirt once got mangled in the wash and they paid me retail. You should always ask what day your work will be done. If you want it earlier just ask. Now if all the Papa Razzi patrons would stop hogging his parking....... read more

Compared to Zoots, which is ridiculously expensive for women's dry cleaning. Tony is a better value. They don't take credit cards, so bring cash. Your bill can easily hit $80-$100 if you have sweaters/dresses in the mix. Tony is very helpful if he waits on you, but his younger staff members just stare at you while you sort your items yourself and identify the number of skirts, dresses, etc. BE WARNED: The sign in the window says same day cleaning if in by 11:00 a.m. but the counter guy always tells me it will be ready on Thursday if he even bothers to speak any words out loud during my visit. You have to ask if it can be ready same-day, or don't waste your time coming back until Thursday night no matter when you bring your clothing in. It's usually busy, and people seem to be on a first-name basis with Tony, so I assume they have a lot of repeat business. The store is small, and many people with alterations are usually changing and running around right at the front of the store, which is a little awkward. read more

Awful. Tony's register is manned by a surly gentleman who always looks like he needs a bath. He's always nasty, and seems put out when he has to retrieve my dry cleaning. Forget about the clothes I'm bringing in to be cleaned - he won't even help count shirts. To add insult to injury, Tony's lied to me about their prices on women's shirts. I called ahead and asked about laundering shirts when I dropped the clothes off. I was told my shirts could be laundered and the price was the same as men's shirts. That was not the case - when I picked my clothes up I had to ask about the bill because it seemed wrong (they do not provide an itemized receipt). And yes, my shirts were more expensive than my husband's. They would not honor what they had told me earlier. Bad customer service, lying about pricing. Tony the Tailor is a disaster. read more

I've known Tony ever since he arrived in the US decades ago. What a mensch! Helpful, efficient, friendly, CAPABLE. Both cleaning and tailoring is done superbly. He and his wife Bey are the best people. Customers travel from some distances to go to him because he is consistently excellent. I have been coming here for tailoring for 2 years now. I have never had any issue. I find the team all nice and Tony is very nice and straightforward which I can see might come across as direct for some people, but I appreciate it. Tony has always been honest (you could say blunt) as to whether something works on me, fits or doesnt fit. I really appreciate Tony's honesty. I actually look for that in a tailor. The description of the man at the counter does not meet the description of any man I have met. The man I have met who works the counter might be quiet, but he is nice, polite and always clean. Im not sure who the other man is. They do only take cash, but for the consistency, price, location and liking the people who work there, I find it to be worth it. Ive lived in big cities where places only taking cash wasn't uncommon, so its not a bother to me. If you find yourself without cash, one block away there is an ATM. Highly recommend! read more

Do not bring your tailoring to this establishment. My husband brought a pair of pants to be hemmed. I picked them up for him not realizing the wrong pants were given to me. Upon return to the establishment to exchange the pants for the ones dropped of, the owner stated that there was no mistake, that these were the pants he tried on to be hemmed. The pants given to me were a size 38 waist. My husband wears a size 34 waist. I was expecting an apology at minimum with a reassurance that the pants would be located, instead I was confronted with the owner telling me that he makes no mistakes and these are the pants my husband tried on in front of him (they would have fallen off of him when he put them on to be hemmed if that were the case). Regardless, the owner took no responsibility and was not in any way apologetic for the obvious mistake. I understand mistakes happen, but to blame the customer when clearly there was no possible way the pants given were the pants my husband brought in is just a crime. I can not recommend you take any item here as you don't know what you'll get back, the owner takes no accountability for his mistakes and is rude in the process. read more

I met the loveliest lady there who attended to me and suggested ways to mend my jeans to make them look like new... and that's exactly what I got! I dropped a few pairs of jeans off to be mended, seat replaced and just stitched to save them. They did an excellent job and i'm so excited I don't have to go all the way into the city for good and affordable service. I called around and whilst others were quoting prices of $30 per pair of pants, Tony's charged me $5 per mending and did an EXCELLENT Job! They don't always pick their phone up, but they are open 7am -7pm. So go go go! read more

I have been going here since it was recommended by a fellow neighbor and it's been great ever since. I generally go once/week to stay on top of things. They do great work, all my shirts and pants always come back like new, and are as crisp as can be. Ironically with such a small shop and in the Wellesley area their prices are some of the lowest around. In fact if you do some research they charge the cheapest prices, especially for dress shirts and pants. Don't let some of the other reviews fool you. This little hole-in-the-wall tailor shop is great. I have gone to many others that are closer or more convenient to my commute or more high-tech but am always disappointed and go back to Tony. I like the small, family style business and the folks on the ancient sewing machines performing beautifully careful repairs and alterations. I like the fact that i can bring in a new suit and have Tony do the measurements in less than 5 minutes and I like the fact that I can point out a missing button or torn lining and have them just fix it without it being a big deal or expense. Pricing is probably about average and the quality is very good - I've never had any problems with any item. The only drawback (and it is really annoying) is that they don't take credit cards. Since I don't like to write checks, I end up walking a block up to the nearest ATM and getting cash. read more

You quickly change in the changing room because the curtains don't seem quite wide enough to cover the entire doorway. I had the pleasure of using Tony's cleaning services, in the days before Yelp. Which meant that this business could treat it's customers any which way it wanted, without any reputation consequences. I worked for 2 years in an office opposite Tony's, and the shop was well known amongst my colleagues for damaging, losing, misplacing clothing with wild abandon - and worst of all - being unbelievably rude to customers. There was a comment in another review about the surly gentleman who manned the counter - don't if it's the same person I often dealt with (perhaps Tony himself) - but regardless, I got nothing but the worst manners and treatment in most of my interactions with their staff. I drive from Boston to get my tailoring done here. They do a great job of sewing the original hem back on to jeans. This is a skill that not ever tailor has the ability to pull off. I am so glad they told me about this place at Bloomingdales! I love the work and constantly rave about this place. Dropped-off two pair of pants for alteration. The pants were polyester, not expensive. When I went to pick-up the trousers I was presented with a bill for $104.00!! Three times what I paid for both pair new. Not acceptable. No call, no estimate just a ridiculous bill. read more

I had a terrible lying experience with this tailor. My daughter had a very important event. They said they couldn't find her dress (day of the event). We knew that they had just misplaced it but they all came up with a story that another person had taken the dress by mistake, but they didn't know who and couldn't contact the person. My daughter smartly decided to wait until they found the dress. Finally, after an hour, a woman (Tony's wife?) produced it from the back. Tony has always done a great job and if something isn't right, he will fix it right away. I have tried Zoots a couple of times when I had coupons, but they ruined a couple of shirts and miss charged my husbands silk shirts for woman's blouses. Beware: I have just had a very unpleasant, surprising experience. Today when I went to pick up tailored items, I was unhappy to find that Tony lied and overcharged me. I have been a customer for 4 years and have been generally satisfied. Last week I requested to have 7 exercise tanks tailored: the 2 inch wide shoulders on each side cut to shorten and stitched. When I left the tops, Tony quoted $4.50 for each shirt. The cost to purchase these shirts was $16 at Under Armour and I was happy to pay that price for tailoring to have them fit properly. At pick up, the register rang up $14 for each shirt. When I asked to speak with Tony about this error, he would not come to the counter to speak with me and sent several workers to confirm that this was the price expected. Not even the courtesy to speak with me---I am there on a weekly basis and on very friendly terms with all workers. It never occured to me to worry about the practice of this business not listing cost of services on tickets. I had assumed that since it is a small family business with regular customers, such an unpleasant transaction would be unlikely. Now I get it! Beware. I will choose to take my business elsewhere. read more

I've brought a few things here to be shortened, with varying levels of success. My jeans have all come out excellent, no problems there. However, last week I brought in a pair of athletic yoga pants and two athletic shirts for hemming, and the results weren't great. The hems looked nice, but the pants were easily an inch shorter than what we had discussed, and the hem on one of the shirts unraveled within hours of wearing it for the first time. It's frustrating to have to bring them back to Wellesley to get tailored, so I'll be looking for a new place closer to my home. read more

I have had tailoring done by Tony for 35 years. I have had the occasion to watch him work and he is amazing at what he does. His work has always been excellent, prices fair, and finished on time, and that's the truth. This place is really nice and quite friendly, I didn't meet any surly guys behind any counters, and they do a decent job quickly. I picked this place to do the final cleaning ($85) on my wedding dress before the big day and to have some last minute alterations done (have the side seams taken in a bit for $80). His cleaner was apparently unexpectedly absent so he called a couple weeks after I dropped it off to tell me he cant clean it but he will just press it instead for half the cost of cleaning (this was unexpected and annoying but not really his fault). As for the alterations, it definitely wasn't taken in enough and I will need to take it somewhere else to be done again ASAP. I also specifically asked them to take it in at the sides instead of the back which they agreed to do but then took it in at the back instead anyway. The quality of the work is fine and by no means did he "ruin" the dress or anything and had it been any garment other than a wedding gown I'm sure it would have been fine but, in summary, I wouldn't take a wedding dress there again (not sure what I was thinking in the first place!). So these guys get a solid 3 stars, as an every day tailor and cleaner they are A-ok! read more

It's true that Tony the Tailor is cheaper than most drycleaners in the area. However, I've been bringing my husband's dress shirts there weekly for six months now, and the guy at the counter never remembers to put "medium starch" even though I've asked for it everytime. Even worse, the collar sometimes comes back just as dirty as before the cleaning. Having said that, Tony's wife is really nice and does great alterations. read more

I really enjoy working with Tony the Tailor and Cleaners. I just had a holiday white table cloth cleaned there and it was de-stained perfectly and ready on time (unlike Zoots, which could be unpredictable as to when they might deliver your items back to you). I have also had clothing alterations done and have been very happy with the results. They have helped me extend the life of household items and clothing by mending seams for reasonable prices. For the reviews below that complain of unfair prices, I see that a list can be found on the counter top. I think their prices ARE reasonable as I just had a dining room sized formal tablecloth dry cleaned for $14. read more
