One star is too high. Farmers Real Estate provided me with Property Management service for rentals…read more When I decided to terminate my agreement with Farmers, they made it extremely difficult to leave. I signed the required AAR Cancellation form which stated my deposits and reserves would be sent to the new Property Management service. Several days later, I received an email from Farmers with a "home grown" letter stating my deposits and reserves would be sent directly to me instead of my new Property Management company as stated in the first document I signed. In their letter, I was instructed to print, sign and return the letter to them before they would return my deposits and reserves. Their letter contridicted the original document I signed. It was easy to hire Farmers for Property Management services however don't rely on the same ease when cancelling with them. I did not expect to be jerked around when I decided to leave. The staff appears to have little to no knowledge in property management. In my past and current dealings with the accountant/controller I found her to be less than helpful. When I requested my Profit/Loss sheet for tax purposes, she told me to create an Excel spreadsheet and go through my previous monthly statements. I tried several times to reach out to the Broker, Clayton Abernathy and he never return my calls. This business is unprofessional and I do not recommend Farmers Real Estate.

Crooks. Sent my niece to collections after she was forced…read moreto break her lease. Charged her for a carpet cleaning despite the carpets being dirty and stained when she moved in (see pics). They huffed and puffed when she brought it to their attention so she told them they could hold off sending out someone to professionally clean the carpet as long as they didn't charge her when she moved out, but then she still received a bill for carpet cleaning when she left... Additionally she wasn't able to see the unit until she moved in (moved from out of town) and when she got there it was clear that it was too noisy (unit right on Swan and Camp Lowell) and she couldn't sleep. Mind you she told them before she moved in that she was looking for a QUIET unit and even requested an upstairs unit so she wouldn't hear people above her. So what do they do? Took advantage of her moving from out of town and put her in the unit closest to the busy intersection, aka the loudest unit possible that nobody else would want! Neighbors even mentioned that the unit had the fastest turnover rate... wonder why hmmmm... She tried everything to fix the issue including OTC sleep meds, ear plugs, white noise machine, fans, noise canceling headphones, even prescription sleeping pills! But after a few days it became clear that nothing could drown out the noise and it was interfering with her sleep and work. So she emailed the staff about it and they completely ignored her. She finally received a response after multiple attempts a month later. But they wanted her to pay $1100 to transfer units! And told her maybe apartment living just wasn't for her if she was so sensitive to noise! Rude! So she asked what her other options were which would be break lease. But in order to put in 2 months notice, you have to pay $880 fee. Unfortunately she couldn't afford that after paying all the deposits to move in and losing her work promotion due to lack of sleep and performance at work. So she left without being able to pay the fees and told them she was willing to work out a payment plan for the remainder she owed if they could just be patient with her as she had to move in with family in Chicago and find a new source of income. But they ignored her and instead sent her to collections and claimed she owed nearly $5000! It should have been closer to $3000 according to the lease but in the itemized list they sent, they charged a $880 lease cancellation fee + $880 early termination fee (isn't that the same thing as lease cancellation?) + $2640.00 improper notice fee (again, not in the lease) + $85 carpet cleaning fee (despite the fact that the carpet was dirty at move-in) + various other fees. It just breaks my heart to see this happen to her. To see her whole life get turned upside down and ruined by greedy con artists.
