'singling out another veggie for special mention'…read more It is 'Baby Gai Choy' ('Chinese Mustard Green'), and was observed on a shelf at LFM druing a recent shopping stop. I had not recalled seeing this particular veggie before. Short-stemmed, with long and broad leaves, bagged (like the other 'choys' sold there), the individual bags standing tall, and the product sure looking fresh. And though I had never tried, or even heard of this veggie before, I decided a good-sized bag was comng hme with me. Wow!! there has been no looking back on this purchase with any regret, we have totally enjoyed it. It has an amazing, distinctive "peppery-mustard" flavour, especially noticeable when used uncooked, or only lightly cooked. For us, making it great to use in sandwiches, or salads. But it retains its flavour when cooked. So can, and has added its wonderful green colour and flavour to dishes I have prepared in the microwave oven, and on the stovetop and indoor griddle. I have really enjoyed how the flavour lingers in the mouth after eating -- a mild, and spicy-warmth. I believe it is the 'baby branded' product that particularly meets my descriptions. Unsure if it is sold, at least to the general public, once it grows and ages much further. Glad I saw, and chose to purchase and try it. But will sure miss it when we have finished what I bought, and may be unable to catch a replacement!

This particular market has never really been listed very high on my shopping 'to do' list, but with some time between other shopping venues today, a walk-by and look-see at what was being offered, captured our attention to stop in for a closer look. Broccoli was being featured at a great price. And having some dinner plans in mind for the rest of this week, it was 'yea', when I found some very decent looking and priced green onions and Roma tomatoes. Thanks to this stop at 'Kin's', I was able to catch and fulfill remaining items on my shopping list for today's shopping adventure.

They almost always have the following organic items, celery, cabbage, beets with and without the greens (greens are a great leafy veg like chard), garlic and ginger. They always have organic kale, carrots, bananas and several other items. I've even found organic watermelon over this past summer. Once I found organic apples but haven't seen any this year. The staff is helpful and if you ask repeatedly for an item they'll often get it in. Prices are very competitive. If you are on a tight budget look in the bargain shelf at the back. I got a bag of tomatoes that were very ripe at a real discount. They are close to deserving 5 stars. Perhaps organic citrus and/or tomatoes would do it for me.

The selection is decent. As far as produce goes, Sunny Farm certainly isn't lacking in common staples, but that's more or less it. The quality of the produced can be a mixed bag; sometimes it's good, sometimes your onions will start molding in a few days in the fridge. They do carry a surprisingly sizable collection of dry/canned goods, despite the store being on the smaller size. I'm particularly pleased with their selection of beans and grains. All things said, though, it's not the sheer variety of jarred pickled vegetables that will bring me back to a store -- it's the knowledge that I'll be able to shop for my groceries without having a cashier all but accuse me of stealing by searching my bags. Unfortunately, the latter is no longer true for me at Sunny Farm Market. Maybe this sour experience was the result of a young and inexperienced cashier needing a bit of guidance on how to handle customers with a bit more tact. But based on the other (censored) negative review on this page, it seems like this lack of distrust of customers comes all the way from the top. Either way, I don't think I'll stick around to find out -- I'll drive a few more minutes and get my vegetables from Kin's Farm from now on.

Vibrant red cherries and the tomatoes had markings like it had come out of a neighbor's garden and would be bursting with flavor. This was nice after visiting another market in New West where they're trying to pass off imported carrots as locally grown when they weren't. Labels were showing. Inside the store it was well organized. Frozen foods, Asian items and fresh meat lined the aisles. Around 1:00 pm today, it was busy! I snagged the last parking spot, yay me! It must be a popular place and I can see why. Just don't expect customer service to be as good as the produce and your visit will be fine.

Most of the produce looked fresh, however I noticed that the zucchini was very affordable, but a lot of it was soft and about to rot. I was most impressed with the meat section. They have specials on certain meats and we purchased 2 ribeye steaks at $14 each. They also carry an assortment of international products. There is plenty of free parking in the lot outside and on the side streets.

Liked what I saw -- they had a wide selection of offerings, and I thought all were nicely-displayed. My visit was short, but while there, I did purchase some fresh, and good-looking eggplants. Before purchasing, I sought some advice from one of the staff -- she was very helpful, and the information received re: varieties, possible cooking methods, and such, was sure appreciated. I enjoyed my first, but much too brief encounter with the Rose Supermarket -- I'll plan to do better when there the next time.
