What a cool, multifaceted place, small BBQ/Sandwich joint on the left side, an excellent bakery on the right side. The service in the BBQ area is fast food style, order and pay at the counter, and grab a seat to wait. Time for orders out of the kitchen is pretty good. We tried a Chopped BBQ sandwich with regular slaw, and a Hot Dog, with M,C, & O. The BBQ here is solid, but probably not the very best in the area, but definitely worth a stop. The Hot Dog was outstanding, the chili meaty & full of flavor. I would order both again, probably 2 dogs. The bakery side is amazing - great looking pastries, huge variety, nice service. We tried the Chocolate Eclairs, Oatmeal Cookies, and excellent Pound Cake. The Chocolate Eclairs were super, as well, but the Oatmeal Cookies were a disappointment. Next time through (and there will be a next time) we'll try the Cream Horns, they looked fantastic. Great little place, with a variety of great food options.

    Amazing shrimp dinner!

Well... if the owner's intent was to trade upon the Varsity in Atlanta's fame and reputation, they failed.

Towel City Tavern has two floors and is connected to the baseball stadium. Only the first floor was open during my visit. The Cabarrus Brewing Co. serving tanks are what you see as you enter. If you order a beer, it will be fresh as it comes directly from the tanks, as it is brewed on site. The restaurant's name pays homage to the city's textile roots and the towels made at the mills. The restaurant design also incorporated the town's history with Cannon Mills. The restaurant has an industrial feel with the open kitchen, high ceilings, concrete floors, exposed brickwork and steel structures. The tables were crafted from a 160-year-old tree that fell on the mill property. There were garage doors that likely opened during the games. They offer a $10 lunch special that includes a drink, side and entree. The $10 menu had a lot to select from: sandwiches, wraps, salads, wings, and a burger. I went with the All-American burger and fries. My burger was a good size, cooked to order and tasted great. The fries were really good, too. Service was great and attentive too. I was even offered a tea to go. My waiter got me in and out of the restaurant fast so I could get to the Music Hall of Fame on time. I did stop at the mural again on my way back to the car. Parking was free in the street spots and no time limits. Although I am not sure about the rules on game days/nights. With my favorite mural on the building, I have a feeling I will be back again to try more menu items and maybe see a ballgame too.

While there are no baseball games, the views of field and people enjoying the stadium are great. The service was slow but ok. We went for lunch to try out there specials. I got the pulled chicken sandwich with a side of sweet potato mash. The sandwich needed a lot of barbecue sauce as the chicken did not have any seasoning. The sweet potato mash was good.

I opted for the burnt ends sandwich on Texas toast ( recommended by our server Katy instead of the bun) which was a great choice. The meat was super tender, great smoke and kissed with a little bbq and those luscious caramelized onions. I decided on side of collard greens and mac 'n cheese. Hubby had the Texas Trinity which consisted of ribs, sliced brisket and sliced jalapeño cheese sausage link served with the best hush puppies and he decided on sides of collard greens and sweet potato casserole. Note, sorry the brisket was almost devoured before I could take the pic. Everything was seasoned to perfection! The brisket and jalapeño cheese sausage was the best he's had since leaving Texas in 2006; so good in fact that he ordered 2 additional links to go! With bellies full, took the delicious peach cobbler to-go...YUM! Another thing that will bring me back besides the food, I love that they employee our young people to give them real life work experience. #Teens Need Jobs! So good we needed a box. 3 meats tray with 3 sides. Perfectly chopped and flavorful barbque no sauce needed but a top of red slaw and sauce is how we like it. Pork Spare Ribs were delish with smoke flavor ordered dry and put our own sauce. Brisket delicious with full flavor. We chose kickin collard greens and baked beans, got a sample of the red slaw and then asked for a full side as we use a topper too! Cornbread was like a sweet cake. All was so delish that we couldn't finish and boxed it up and topped the sides for another meal later today. Thanks to all on Yelp who gave great reviews and I can see why! Yum!
