Fri Lunch Pickup: I enjoy being able to pickup my order online; however, my rice chicken bowl today managed to turn into someone else's Chorizo salad bowl. Will be getting my rice bowl on Monday and update review. Monday Lunch Wait Update: Went "in line" and big difference between amount of food in the bowl versus the wrong order from Friday. There is a lot less. Maybe that is the difference between a salad and a rice bowl? Maybe it is because I let them know it was a remake? Looking through some of the other photos, maybe the rice bowl is supposed to have less? Granted rice is cheap, so could have added more to fill the bowl up a little more. Now to actually rate the food, which is really what ratings are about. I think their food is better than 3 stars, maybe 4 stars (if they were consistent). They grill their meat and veggies to keep the bar stocked with fresh during lunch (one piece of chicken I didn't eat, did not get heated on grill well enough), so no worries about either sitting in their prep area long. Although the chicken had a nice grill mark on it, I have decided it is from being precooked chicken with a factory char as it had that undercooked texture / flavor to it and it had the char. Seasoning and sauce has good flavor. More rice if it was added would not take away from the seasoning on existing food in the bowl. As far as organization goes though the line, its more than a little chaotic. You can forget the rotation like Subway does where people move along with your food. Its a little chaotic in that you have to repeat things as your food moves down the line of people adding it to your order. If one thing could improve, this could. I believe online ordering is the way to go, because I think when an online order goes in that it is handled by just a single person (would only make sense person gets info and does it all). It also seems like the goal is to put it into the bowl as fast as possible to get to the next in line, not necessarily the most hospitable feeling of being sent to the next, the next, the next, etc. So in the end, its all about food. ~3.5 star food, with an overall 3 star feel. If I could rate it around 3-1/2 I would. I don't think they deserve a 3 though. If I visit again, I will update my review.

    The Spicy Pork Burrito!
    Bill B.

I stopped in today (10/14/16) for lunch. I think this restaurant opened about 2 weeks ago. I ordered the spicy pork burrito. The burrito came with a side of rice, black beans, and corn. The food had a nice spicy kick and was very good. The burrito was very large and had very good flavor. The service was good and the burrito assembly line is very similar to Chipotle. My ticket including a soft drink was $10.08 (no tip).

I found a RAZOR BLADE in my chicken and rice bowl. I thought stories of razor blades in food were mythical.
    Sarah E.

Nice service but overshadowed by the fact I found a RAZOR BLADE in my chicken rice bowl . They claim they have no idea how it got in the food and they don't have these razor blades in their store, which makes the situation all that more alarming. Where has your food been before it was served to you? No one knows...

This place is killer! The guacamole, the elote, the honey lime grilled chicken. 10/10 would recommend. I'm 100% obsessed.

We've been to El Vaquero twice now to play trivia. While we enjoy the clean amenities and our…read moretrivia caller, both times, we've all been incredibly unhappy with our food. The restaurant is spacious and gets loud when there's a crowd. Thankfully, there's usually a place for our larger group (6 people) to be seated comfortably. Service is very nice but slow. Trivia runs for a little over an hour and both times our food has taken about 45 minutes to come out, despite our comparatively small orders. My friend who comes to trivia does like the food here (he always gets a beef chimichanga FWIW), but everyone else has now tried several different dishes and not once been satisfied or even just not unhappy. The one shining star has been the cheese dip. It really is pretty good cheese dip, lol. The first time I ordered the chipotle chicken, which is supposed to be chicken in a chipotle sauce. I was firstly surprised and disappointed to see these were small strips of chicken rather than a chicken breast. But that would've been okay...had the chipotle sauce been decent. It had no chipotle flavor and honestly mostly just tasted like sour cream. It was very weird. My parents have tried a beef burrito, beef taco, and chicken taco. They said the beef has an unpleasant metallic taste and the shredded chicken was, according to my dad, inedible. Most recently, my husband got a carne asada burrito and said it tasted so unpleasant he was concerned about whether he should even eat it. Fortunately, no ill effects came about as a result of it; he determined it was ultimately just very low quality meat with an unpleasant texture and taste. My father in law just doesn't order anything except a beer after coming for breakfast once and having a bad time there, too. On my most recent visit, I got a side of rice and beans to eat with chips and cheese dip. The rice had been cooked into sticky, mushy lumps and had no flavor. At this point, I have no idea what to order that might even come close to satisfying my palate. It's disappointing. We may be forced back due to circumstances like our availability in order for us to play our favorite game and have time together. If so, I'll continue to try different things until I can maybe someday find something that works. I want to like this place and wish I had the experience so many other reviewers have had.

We specifically came for margaritas during their social hour. $3 off a set list plus seasonals. There was a table card listing seasonal drinks. I specifically asked our waitress if the Christmas margarita was considered seasonal. She assured me it was, until we got our check and she said it wasn't. I'm not arguing over $6 but $26 for two watered down drinks was not a social hour deal. It's not a deal anywhere. My husband and I shared the three different empanadas gracing the social hour menu. The chicken was delicious, the beef was ok but the fish was fishy. So much so that I didn't even get to a second bite. We ordered chips, salsa and queso for the group. The chips were great - crisp and airy. The queso was good though unremarkable, the green salsa was great. The red was a tad hot for me but everyone else at the table disagreed with me. Husband and I shared the enchiladas verdes. Three chicken enchiladas were served with a plate of nearly tasteless rice. The enchiladas were dry. Even queso didn't help. I ate half of one and my husband didn't even want my second. We didn't take home the leftover enchilada. That pretty much sums them up - not even worthy of a to-go box. With tip, our check was $90. Way too much for such a mediocre meal. We just walked in the door. Hanging up our jackets, we agreed - we won't go back.

I didn't really have to worry about snacking on the chips because my food came out fairly quickly. I ordered some Mole Enchiladas and received some large portions. The chicken enchiladas were a little juicy, and the mole really enhanced the flavor. I loved the smokiness of the ancho falling through + the chocolate flavor.
